Difficulty Sending Images with iChat

When I try to send images in iChat, usually it just stalls and the person on the other end doesn't get the image and doesn't get any of the text that I type subsequently. Restarting iChat, not just logging out and logging back in, is the only way to resume text messaging. I can receive images and video without any problems.
Sometimes sending images actually works. That's how I know it isn't a firewall problem. When image sending stalls, I was also getting the error message "disconnected from the iChat agent" or something like that, but I've since tossed out the iChat preferences and now I don't get this error message any more. But sending images still doesn't work consistently.
I've also tested my internet connection to see if the upload speed was a problem or if there are line quality issues. But my network is in great shape.
I'm using 10.4.7 with iChat 3.1.5 and an Airport Express (firmware v6.3).
Any ideas?

What is your Quicktime Setting set to ?
System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming Tab ?
Sreaming Speed: Automatic
Enable Instant-On (checked)
How does Quicktime video streaming influence the transfer of a single image in iChat?
Is this an actual Airport Express device or do you
mean that your Wireless card is at Express speeds ?
I'm using a powerbook wirelessly with an airport express attached to an ethernet.
If it is an actual Airport device is it "Distributing
Addressses" ?
Distribute IP addresses (checked)
Airport Client computers: Share a single IP address
Does the modem route ?
There is no modem on my network. I'm on an ethernet.
Have you opened port 5190 on the UDP protocol here ?
Sometimes the images do transfer, so it isn't a firewall problem. If closed ports were blocking the transmission, they would always do so, not just occasionally. Or is there something more complex going on that I'm not understanding?

  • Sending images with iChat AV

    I'm running iChat AV 2.1 (v153).
    I'm in an office setting - several of us are having a hard time trying to send images through a chat.
    This is what happens: I drag the jpg or gif into the conversation, it pops up in the conversataion as if it sent BUT the other person recieves either nothing or an error.
    In the opposite direction - some people are able to send me images in this manner... other's can't.
    Any ideas?

  • "Rend Error" when sending image via iChat/AIM

    On my brand new iMac aluminum, I am unable to send, and friends are unable to send, images via iChat AIM 3.1.8 (V445). When either of us try to send, we get the message "An undefined AIM error has occured. The server message was: Rend: Error"
    I then spin around and use my old G4 iMac to send an image - no problem. My buddy is also able to send to me, no problem.
    Both computers are connected to the same Linksys WRT54G router. When I searched for the term 'rend' only one thread came back which suggested to change the port from 5190 to 443. I did this and it didn't help.
    Any other suggestions?

    Hi Craig,
    In the Linksys set up pages you have Application and Gaming (Which is where I think you are talking about)
    In there there are several options.
    Port Forwarding, Port Triggering, DMZ (possibly UPnP Forwarding and QoS)
    Disable any Port Forwarding or Port Triggering. DO not use the DMZ.
    Save settings. (you should still have Web browsing and Mail abilities).
    GO to the Administration tab on the top row.
    Enable UPnP.
    Save Settings.
    UPnP allows multiple computers to use the same ports.
    This way the Linksys can be left doing DHCP if you wish and it will not matter if your computer gets a new IP every now and then. Also the Ports are opened by the application and close after a timed period of non use.
    You can limit the "Hops" to the number of devices the computer is from the Linksys (1 ?) to make it more secure.
    On the main set up page you could limit the the DHCP range to the number of computers you have to prevent outside connections.
    The ports you describe so far are only the TExt chatting and file sending ports

  • Axis and Mime to send Images with Web Services

    Hi, I have been reading a lot of information about MIME and how I have to send images or attachaments with Web Services, and I am a little lost. I would to find a simple example to use MIME with AXIS 1.4 . Do anybody know where I can find some example to use attachements with AXIS???
    Thank you very much in advance

    Hi,
    When you are using JAX-WS, there is a tool wsimport, with which you are going to generate the artifacts required to implement the web service.
    When you pass the WSDL as a parameter to the wsimport tool, it will be create the required beans also(JAXB Objects).
    So need of any other external implementation of JAXB when you are working with JAXWS
    Thanks,

  • Send image with MFMailComposeVewController and thread issue

    Hi,
    In my app, if user click a button, the app will generate an image and show up a MFMailComposeViewController with the image as attachment. Since it takes quite some time to generate the image, I fired up a thread and generate the image in this new thread. I am not sure what to do the next. When the image is generated, how can I tell the mail thread to launch the MFMailComposeViewController?
    Thanks,

    Have you looked at this sample yet (link)?

  • Imessage sending images with text

    When i want to send an imessage as soon as i hit send it asks me to add an image so i have to send 2 messages at the same time
    Wish i could add screen shot to show you

    That should not be happening.
    Note, the send button is all the way to the right of the message.  If you tap on theleft side, you are telling it you want to add an image.
    So.. Close i message.  Thrn double tap the home key and tough and hold any of the icons on the task bar until they jiggle.  Then delete them by touching the - sign.
    Then, reboot the pad.  Hold home and sleep until the apple logo appears. Ignore the red slider.
    See if that clears it up.

    I have Windows 7, Microsoft Outlook and PSE 13. I have used the "Share photos as embedded images" feature frequently, but today when I went to use it, it wasn't there, only the option to send email with files attached. How do I get back the ability to send emails with photos embedded. I like adding the frames and backgrounds and I think it's easier for recipients to look at the photos. Thanks for any suggestions of things to try.

    I had a similar problem in that my wife's iphone 5 could not send pics with imessage.  Had to set the settings to default to SMS or whatever.  After laboring many hours on the web I coincidentally was on the phone with the internet people to question my internet speed.  They changed the router channel, which is something that I am capable of doing myself.  After that, the pics go over imessage.  My own Iphone didn't have the problem.  We are both latest IOS 7.0.6.

  • Send email with html and images over Sockets

    Hi! I'm sending email messages through sockets with html. So far is working great. But now, I need to include images in the html code, like a web page. I don't have any idea on how to do this. Sending image apart from the html code is not big deal, but how to put it in the code. I mean how to make this html code, work:
    <table border="0">
         <tr>
              <td>Image in code</td>
         </tr>
         <tr>
              <img src="what to put here"/>
         </tr>
    </table>This is the code that I'm using to send the html mail:
    StringBuffer retBuff = new StringBuffer();
              //BufferedReader msg;
              //msg = new BufferedReader(msgFileReader);
              smtpPipe = new Socket(mailHost, SMTP_PORT);
              smtpPipe.setSoTimeout(120000);
              if (smtpPipe == null) {
                   return retBuff;
              inn = smtpPipe.getInputStream();
              outt = smtpPipe.getOutputStream();
              in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(inn));
              out = new PrintWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(outt), true);
              if (inn == null || outt == null) {
                   retBuff.append("Failed to open streams to socket.");
                   return retBuff;
              String initialID = in.readLine();
              retBuff.append(initialID);
              retBuff.append("HELO " + localhost.getHostName());
              out.println("HELO " + localhost.getHostName());
              String welcome = in.readLine();
              retBuff.append(welcome);
              retBuff.append("MAIL From:<" + from + ">");
              out.println("MAIL From:<" + from + ">");
              String senderOK = in.readLine();
              retBuff.append(senderOK);
              for (int i = 0; i < to.length; i++) {
                   retBuff.append("RCPT TO:<" + to[i] + ">");
                   out.println("RCPT TO:<" + to[i] + ">");
                   String recipientOK = in.readLine();
                   retBuff.append(recipientOK);
              retBuff.append("DATA");
              out.println("DATA");
              out.println("From: Steren <" + from + ">");
              out.println("Subject: " + subject);
              out.println("Mime-Version: 1.0;");
              out.println("Content-Type: text/html; charset=\"ISO-8859-1\";");
              //out.println("Content-Type: multipart/mixed; charset=\"ISO-8859-1\";");
              //out.println("Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit;");
              //String line;
              //while ((line = msg.readLine()) != null) {
              //     out.println(line);
              out.println(msg);
              retBuff.append(".");
              out.println(".");
              String acceptedOK = in.readLine();
              retBuff.append(acceptedOK);
              retBuff.append("QUIT");
              out.println("QUIT");
              return retBuff;

    Throw all this away and use one of the numerous existing Java mail packages, such as javax.mail for a start.

  • Need software which can send images to my editor, have them make selections, share them with me so I can edit the images and send the final results back to them.  Will Lightroom work?

    Need software which can send images to my editor, have them make selections, share them with me so I can edit the images and send the final results back to them.  Will Lightroom work?

    What I would like to do is to use Lightroom as I have been doing with LR 5.7.  Tag certain images to be shared to the Creative Cloud which my editor can then see and tag as to which she would like to see final versions of.  In the best case, I would then see these tags and edit the images as appropriate and save the JPEGs back to the Cloud where she can download them for final production.
    Possible?

    Hi Ralph,
    it is basically the same with parallels or vmware.
    Host-Only:
    Means taht you communicate only with your mac on a special independent interface (this has nothing to do with your macs ethernet or airport IP / Interface) The VM can not see the Internet then. Only your Host...
    NAT:
    Advantage: No need to reconfigure the VM when changing the Network or switching from Airport to Ethernet.
    Disadvantage: Shares the Macs IP (but i dont see if this is really a problem ;))
    bridged:
    Advantage: direct access to the 'external' network via the same Interface as the host. VM has its own IP
    Disadvantage: need to reconfigure the machine when switching networks
    Hope this clarified things.
    I still do not see why parallels in NAT mode should be a problem with iChat.
    Is there a known problem? I really would try if this problem also exists with vmware
    Regards,
    somi

    It is an addition option some people like and other do not (I do not)  --  to use it as always is trivial - in the iPhoto preferences set Apple Mail as the e-mail client
