Difficulty Upgrading My OS X

I want to set up ICloud on my Macbook Pro, but I discovered that I must have OS X Lion or Mountain Lion to do so.  I have tried several times to upgrade my OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 but the download just stalls out.  How do I accomplish this upgrade and what could I possibly be doing wrong?
Thanks,
CAT4963

Are you saying I must purchase an additional DVD or are you refering to the set up disks that come when you purchase the computer?  I thought by completing the software update notifications that I had already updated to Snow Leopard, but that to get Lion or Mountain Lion, which is what I have been trying to do, I had to purchase and download those from the apple store and each time I have tried the download stalls out.
Sorry, I am not fully computer literate when it comes to Mac's, but am trying to get there.
Thanks,

  • Difficulty upgrading from OSX 10.5.8 to  10.6.3

So I have been having difficulties upgrading my 2008 24 inch intel iMac with 10.5.8 to 10.6.3. I bought the retail version of snow leopard and recieved the disc yesterday. So after opening the package I inserted the disc into the drive. And theeennn.... Nothing. No icon showed up, no disc spinning. Just nothing. I tried multiple eject disc methods, but the mac doesn't even recognize that there is a disc inserted? Ok, so i'll just try to reboot the computer and see if it shows up? After turning it off, i press the power button and let it boot up. But it doesn't. It just sits there at the first white screen. Now i'm really confused.. I try one more time and manage to get it to get to the apple logo. After sitting at that for way longer than I should have, it finally boots. After a few seconds the icon for the disc shows up on the screen. So far so good.... But once I attempt to open the icon, the screen just flickers for a second then goes back to normal. Nothing opens, nothing changes. Very odd. So I attempt to just eject the disc. After going and clicking on the eject icon on the toolbar, the disc refuses to eject. But the system believes that it successfully ejected, so the icon dissapears and the system stops recognizing the disc. So i attempt a couple of eject techniques, but nothing seems to work. I try rebooting multiple times, (many of which leave me sitting at a blank white screen) and a few attempts at booting from the disc, but nothing seems to give off any kind of result.
I'm honestly out of ideas as to what to do. At first I thought maybe just a dirty drive, but the fact that not even the force eject techniques work changed my mind. Does anyone have any idea what possibly could be going on? Perhaps it's something very simple that i'm just missing, but I really don't know. Just a reminder, the iMac I am using is a late 2008 24inch Intel, on OSX 10.5.8, and am attempting to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.3.
Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks!

I had a very similar experience three days ago. A Macbook4,1 running 10.5.8 simply could not be upgraded to 10.6.3. Sometimes the MB would boot to the installer disk, sometimes not. When the computer did boot from the disk the installation could be started, but it never finished. The disk itself was my first suspect. In spite of that I tried installing in Target Disk Mode from another MB4,1. That installation proceeded without a hitch. The second MB is running 10.7
I do not know why this happened, but thought I'd let you know. If you have access to another Mac with firewire, you could connect in TDM and try installing that way.

  • Difficulty upgrading RAM - getting the old RAM out (w/pics)

    Hi
    I'm upgrading the RAM on a new iMac 20" - it currently has 2 * 512MB and I'm putting in 2 * 1GB.
I've removed the panel and opened the two levers as far as they'll comfortably go, but the two RAM cards have not popped out at all, and I'm wondering whether it's OK to force the arms further apart, or is there a better way to get the RAM cards out (dont want to use pliers!)
I've uploaded two pics to show you the current situation:
    http://www.digitalus.co.nz/imac1.jpg
    http://www.digitalus.co.nz/imac2.jpg
Are the arms far enough apart or can they be forced further to pop the cards out? They seem to be at maximum rotation...
    Many thanks in advance

They need to be wider, so put a little pressure on them to release the sticks, but not too much that you fear breaking something.
Right now as it is, the installed RAM can't even clear those levers, so push a little bit more.

  • How do I upgrade to iOS 5 on iPad?

I am having difficulty upgrading my iPad to iOS 5.  I synched it, but now everything seems to freeze.  Any help is much appreciated.

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. Reboot the computer and Reset the IPad [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.]
If the update to iOS 5 was not successful then try again.

  • Upgrading to win 7

    Hello Everyone,
I have just recently upgraded my toshiba U300 from vista x32 to win7 x64.
And im having problems trying to find my drivers online.
    I have a core 2 duo T5450 and a 250GB HDD.
Then when I go to the Toshiba website, I stumble across Satellite U300-ST***
Apprently there are 3 different versions of my laptop. So i click on all 3 of them to read the system specs to determin which one is mine. The problem: All of those had dual core T2150 and 80 GB HDDs
So can someone help me figure out where i can find my drivers?
    My laptop info:
    Satellite U300
    Model no. PSU30C-FA308C
    Serial no. 18046213W
On top of that, I'm also having problems with my battery. It only charges up to 95% then windows says that it's still charging, but even when I come back 2 hours later, it's still at 95%. And my laptop shutsdown at about 50% of battery... (yes, I'm talking about it doing a hard shutdown, not a soft shut down.)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Satellite U300-FA3 (PSU30C-FA308C)
You should have no difficulty upgrading that Canadian model to 32-bit Windows 7. All the drivers will be found here.
       Toshiba Canada download site
I prefer the 32-bit version in any case. (Notice that the maximum memory on that model is 4 GB.)

  • WCS Software upgrade on WLSE appliance

    Hi
I am having difficulty upgrading the software code of WCS. We have a WLSE appliance that was upgraded to a WCS. I have downloaded the latest WCS software code (7.0.172) unto my PC. However, I do not know how to upgrade the WCS, since the WLSE is a stand alone appliance running on Linux and the WCS is just a GUI interface hosted from the WLSE appliance. • Ios 6.1 upgrade doesn't work ipad2 wifi

I am running into difficulty upgrading my ipad2 to ios 6.1. When i try (settings/general/software update/install now/agree) i get a "verifying update" banner, and then a popup that says "unable to verify update.  Ios 6.1 failed verification because you are no longer connected to the internet"
Trying again just gives the same result.  I am connected to the internet just fine, can browse, etc.  i've tried rebooting the ipad, and resetting the wifi router, rejoining the network, all with the same result. Ay ideas?  Thanks.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Upgrading iTunes etc

I'm having difficulty upgrading iTunes to the latest incarnation. The upload begins OK but then it grinds to a halt over Bonjour. I haven't got Bonjour on my system and don't particularly want it. However, even if I untick Bonjour on the installation preferences the whole thing siezes up saying that it can't find a version of Bonjour to upgrade. This means I can't even upgrade iTunes or Safari. As I've just got a new iPhone I want to install the latest version onto it but can't! Help!

Clean Up seems to have installed OK and appears in my program list. However the error messages appear when I try to uninstall the Apple programs.
Hmmmm. Okay, the issue I've come across most commonly with CleanUp throwing errors at folks is if the vbscript.dll on the PC is not properly registered (or deregistered) or the Windows Script on the PC is out of date.
Let's first try making sure your Windows Script is up to date.
Head to the following download page at Microsoft:
    [Windows Script 5.7 for Windows XP|http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=4780 9025-d896-482e-a0d6-524e7e844d81]
Click "download" and choose to save the Scripten.exe file to your desktop.
Doubleclick the Scripten.exe file. If you're already up to date on your Windows Script, you should get a message saying that "the update does not need to be installed".
If, however, the install does go through for you, restart the PC and try using CleanUp again. Can you remove the relevant entries successfully then, Mick?

  • T30 Hard drive upgrade failure - blinking cursor - will not progress

I am having difficulty upgrading the hard drive on my Thinkpad T30.
I am trying to upgrade a 40GB HD to a 250GB HD.  (New Drive is Western Digital Scorpio WD 2500B EVE)
I have used the Western Digital Lifeguard Tools to clone the drive.  Unfortunately when I insert the new drive into the computer, the startup stops and sits at the blinking cursor.
I have used the PC Tools from Lenovo to test everything.
I have used Western Digital Lifeguard Tools to check the Hard Drive.
I have updated my Bios and the embedded controller program.
When I start up the computer and press F1 to enter the Bios, the plus sign shows beside the Hard Drive.  I understand this means that the Bios recognizes the Hard Drive.
I have entered setup to choose the hard drive as the boot device, but the computer still hangs at the blinking cursor.
When the new hard drive is attached to the computer by usb in an external case it shows that the contents of the old drive are copied onto the new drive.
What do I do now to fix this and get the computer to boot from the new drive?
    Solved!

A program often recommended by ortegeluis is Easeaus Disk Copy a freeware which may help you.

  • Assistance With ProBook 6450b Processor Upgrade

    Friends,
I'm having difficulty upgrading my ProBook 6450b's processor. I currently have an i5 M450 Dual Core 2.4GHz processor installed so I DL'd the spec sheet from the HP website that said this notebook can handle the Intel i7-720QM processor and I recently procured one.
I installed the new i7 processor and re-assembled the notebook. When I powered up, the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK blinked four (4) times, I don't get a POST nor a BIOS message. That's a fault with the GPU, as I understand it, and nothing I did resolved the issue (I spent over 4 hours trying to research and fix it!) I decided to re-install the 'old' i5 processor to see if I actually DID blow the GPU...of course, it's working just fine - I'm using the notebook to enter this forum question right now.
BTW, my BIOS is at the latest F.50...
Would anyone have any suggestions? I really want to get this 'new' processor working...
    Thanks,

So after looking much more deeply into the makeup/build of my ProBook and finding only a few reputable sources from which to glean information, I've learned a few things. Namely:
There are two graphics options available with the 6450b/6550b ProBooks. The Intel HD graphics and the ATI Mobility graphics.
The ProBooks built with the ATI Mobility graphics option have DISCREET graphics: They have a dedicated graphics card.
Only these models with DISCREET graphics are able to be upgraded to the i7-720QM Quad core processor.
Of course, my ProBook 6450b was built with the Intel HD graphics and I'm not certain if I can install the ATI Mobility card in lieu of the Intel HD 4000. As it stands, I now own an i7 Quad Core processor that I can do nothing with. Would anyone know if/how I can acquire an ATI Mobility Graphics card and install it in my ProBook 6450b?

You don't those either came with AMD video or Intel HD boards. To get AMD you need to get a motherboard with AMD chipset video to get the describe video. And that could be a costly upgrade.

  • How do I add new photos to my external back up without duplicating the entire library?

My iPhoto libraries are a complete mess. I can't be the only person who:
    a) wants a number of libraries for different types of image (digital art, holiday snaps, etc)
    b) wants to keep the bulk of his library on an external drive, to free up space on my main hard drive.
One problem is that iPhoto does not show things clearly. It does not say:
    a) which hard drive the currently displayed iPhoto library is in
    b) which iPhoto library is currently open (at the top it just says iPhoto instead of giving a directory).
Another problem is that when I import photos from my iPhone or camera, they automatically go into the iPhoto libaray on my main hard drive; I don't seem to be asked: "To which iPhoto library do you want to import these photos?"
On top of that, whilst in some cases a pop-up asks if you really do want to add a duplicate image to a certain location, I haven't found a simple way when doing back ups to ONLY ADD NEW IMAGES to an existing library ('Apply to all' etc.)
As a result, I have loads of duplicates in different libraries, with crazy titles like: "Mostly family photos up to Sept 2010" or "Digital images to June 2012, many duplicates."
A friend recommended iPhoto Library Manager but I don't find that well laid out and haven't used it.
As I've also had difficulty upgrading my iPhoto libraries, I've started saving my photos in a regular folder (not iPhoto), with View set to large icons. I find that easier to organise.
So....Can anyone advise on a simple clear way of organising my photos and adding new ones in to the appropriate folder?
    Many thanks,
    Eatmorenuts

One problem is that iPhoto does not show things clearly. It does not say:
    a) which hard drive the currently displayed iPhoto library is in
    b) which iPhoto library is currently open (at the top it just says iPhoto instead of giving a directory).
Correct - it always uses the last selected library - If you use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  to manage your libraries you do have a display showing whaih=ch library you are using
And with iPhoto '11 you can switch libraries from the file menu
You can always suggest a new feature to Apple - iPhoto manu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
Another problem is that when I import photos from my iPhone or camera, they automatically go into the iPhoto libaray on my main hard drive; I don't seem to be asked: "To which iPhoto library do you want to import these photos?"
Incorrect - when you import photo to iPhoto they always go to the currently selected library which could be any library in any valid location
On top of that, whilst in some cases a pop-up asks if you really do want to add a duplicate image to a certain location, I haven't found a simple way when doing back ups to ONLY ADD NEW IMAGES to an existing library ('Apply to all' etc.)
Not sure what you are saying - did you see the "apply to all" check box?
As a result, I have loads of duplicates in different libraries, with crazy titles like: "Mostly family photos up to Sept 2010" or "Digital images to June 2012, many duplicates."
Correct IF you do not have a good plan for managing multiple libraries and IF you do not folow it - iPhoto is a basic program designed for the mass market and knows only about the current library - it has no idea about any otehr libraries - it is far better to have only one library - but if you choose to have multiple libraries tehn you must ahve a good plan for managing them and yo must follow yoru plan - if you do not then it will not work wisince what you doing is not a feature of iPhoto
A friend recommended iPhoto Library Manager but I don't find that well laid out and haven't used it.
Well your friend made a good suggestion and it is a great product for manageing multiple libraries - but if you do not like it then you should not use it
As I've also had difficulty upgrading my iPhoto libraries, I've started saving my photos in a regular folder (not iPhoto), with View set to large icons. I find that easier to organise.
Then the question arises "why are you using iPhoto at all?" It does not work like you want, you prefer using teh finder to organize your photos and you have created a mess by trying to use iPhoto in ways it was not designed to be used - your best choice is to not use iPhotoa and do it your self the way you prefer
So....Can anyone advise on a simple clear way of organising my photos and adding new ones in to the appropriate folder?
Yes - use one library and learn how to use iPhoto (BTW in iPhoto folders do not hold photos - they only hold albums and other folders) - the solution is to have one library with multiple backups and to organize using albums, folders, Keywords and folders in the single iphoto library
Otherwise you need a different program and different workflow - what you have is not working and is almost impossible to make work - either use iPhoto the way it is designed or use a program that is designed like you want

  • Can't update to 2.1    (Error Message -19)

As the subject line suggests, I am havng difficulty "upgrading" to 2.1. I am running iTunes 8 on a Windows XP machine. The update process begins and successfully makes it through the "extracting software" step, but it is hanging up in the "backing up iPhone" step. When I say "hanging up," I mean the iTunes freezes, my CPU usage spikes to 100%, and I have to go in to Windows Task Manager to exit iTunes, which is in a status of "not responding." Sometimes I get error message -19, other times I do not.
Any ideas? I see that iTunes has an option to restore the original settings, but I don't want to resynch all of my music and photos.

Oh! I'm stupid... I guess the iTunes error confused me...
