Difficulty uploading nef from Nikon

I continue to experience difficulties uploading my NEF RAW files to iPhoto.  I checked everything, even went to the Apple store with my camera, they had no trouble.  Then I went home and all of a sudden the photos uploaded fine.  Went for vacation and now I am in the same pickle.  I used to be able to do this without any problem, what changed?  Any advice?

Gosh - we have no idea what changed - you would have to tell us unless someone here is on vacation with you
How about starting with the version of iPhoto, verifying that you have OS X version 10.6.8 as your pofile states, and telling us what camera you have
We know nothing except what you tell us and you have told use exactly nothing except that you have a problem of some sort with some Nikon camera using some version of iPhoto that has sometimes worked and now does not - not much to go on
Given that, the only guess is a defective format on your camera memory card - to address that get the photos off of it and use the camera to reformat it

  • NEF from Nikon D600

Using Photoshop CS6 with Camera Raw 8.3 and still can't open NEF from Nikon D600. The files can be opened in Nikon Capture so they are not corrupt. There's no later Camera Raw to update to. Anyone with a solution?

Are you downloading images with an old version of Nikon Transfer? That is known to stop them being readable by Adobe software. If so, you need to update the program, and there is a 3rd party program which fixes the files so they can be opened, here: http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/fix_corrupted_nef.html

  • How do you open raw files (NEF from Nikon) in the edit workspace on Elements 8

how do I get raw NEF files (from Nikon) to open in the edit workspace of elements 8?  I have windows 7 , and when I try to open NEF raw files from the viewer, it says cannot recognize the file type.
    Thanks!

What is your camera model? Every camera has its own raw format and the raw converter must be updated to work with it. If your camera model was new in the past couple of years PSE 8 won't be able to open those files directly.

  • Read settings in NEFs from Nikon Capture during import?

Short version: during import, I would like Lightroom to detect and then approximate edits that I have made to NEFs with Nikon Capture.
Longer version: I have several thousand images that I've previously (individually) edited in Nikon Capture. Is there anyway to capture the gist of these edits *on an individual file basis* when importing into Lightroom, or am I limited to the Lightroom default and my own Lightroom presets? I don't expect Lightroom to *exactly* duplicate whatever I've done in Capture, but it would be nice if it pick up some of the information.
I've searched the forums for this, but didn't find anything relevant. My apologies if this is a duplicate post.

From what I see here, LR simply ignores [or cannot see*] edits from
Capture [NX]; all my manipulated files come in as they were shot, not
as they are saved afterwards. In some cases - e.g. when you used the
brush tool, probably other tools, too - LR cannot even import the NEF.
Same holds for NEFs created with Capture.
*The problem has more to do with Nikon than Adobe, as N does not
disclose their NEF metadata structure. To the contrary, they not only
put loads of interesting information in the manufacturer's section -
thus hiding them in effect - they use encryption for some data (white
balance is the only known one but ...).

  • Can't open NEF from Nikon 1V1 in PS Elements 10 from Mac App store

I have the PSE 10 in the Mac App store version. NEF files from my Nikon D700 opens fine. The NEF files from my Nikon 1V1 don't.

Well, the thing with the app store version is that apple doesn't let developers set things up to update any way except through the app store (i.e, a whole new version every time, which adobe probably doesn't care to do just to update acr). You will need to update ACR manually. The directions are in this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4106477
That's for an older version, but you do it the same way for newer ones. You can just install the plug-in itself, if you don't mind not having the lens profiles, etc.

  • Viewing Raw files (.NEF) from Nikon D300 in Preview (OS X 10.4.11)

    Hi,
I can't view Raw (.NEF) files from my new Nikon D300 dSLR in Preview. I can view the ones from my older D70. I put this question on a photography forum, and the problem seems to be with the OS. The D300 and D3 are new and popular cameras. I have no other particular reason to upgrade to 10.5 yet - is there likely to be an upgrade to 10.4, or Preview, or a plug-in or something, that will solve this? (BTW I have no problem opening these files in Lightroom, but I like to use Preview to browse).
    Richard

    Richard,
Did you ever find a way around this? I am in the same boat. I use CS3 and Lightroom to view and edit the D3 raw images but would like to be able to preview them quickly with Preview or Photo Reviewer software which depends on the OS raw converter support.
The newest OS update available on March 20 still doesn't fix the problem. Maybe Apple will offer another update soon??

  • NEF from Nikon 3100 not recognized?

I cannot import NEF images created by my Nikon 3100. The file format is not recognized by Lightroom. I have installed the latest PS update for Camera Raw. PS does not recognize the file either. Is an update for both Lightroom and PS coming for the new Nikon cameras?

Yes. It should appear about 2 months from now if Adobe keeps to its usual 3 month schedule.

  • PSE 12 with updated Camera Raw will not recognize NEF from Nikon d610

It used to view all my NEF files from the D610, but not seems its broke

Because your old version of Lightroom has no idea what a D610, or what to do with its files - the latest version of Lightroom is version 5.4, and D610 support came with Lr 5.3.
So you can either upgrade to 5.4, or convert your D610 files to DNG (which Lr 4 can read) using the Adobe DNG Converter: but Lr 4 will never, ever, natively support the D610.

  • PS CC: Cannot read NEF from Nikon D600

As far as I remember, it could read them until a couple of days ago, but now it refuses. And the Adobe Converter refuses too. And of course, this happens right after I took 10 pictures that I need to use tomorrow.
I wasted 2 hours chatting with Adobes useless chat support, as usually with no result.
    What can I do.

How would these images downloaded? If you used an older version Nikon Transfer then that could be the problem.

  • Difficulty downloading episodes from my feed

I'm having difficulty uploading podcasts from my tumblr website through googles feedburner to itunes.
Here's the link to the feed url:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/throughthenoise/podcast

Do I put enclosure tags for every post that has a podcast?  What do I put for length for each enclosure tag?  How do I convert that from mb?  Please show where I need to put the enclosure tags because I'm not familiar with this whole process.    I thought smartcast was supposed to take care of this but I guess not.
I uploaded my files to internetarchive.org, which is like dropbox but compatible with itunes.  I linked the files from there.
Do I change the information from the source code or just the individual posts themselves with the linked audio files on my tumblr webite?  Or is that something I change on my google feedburner account?
This is the source code for my rss feed:

  • How do i view Nef format pictures downloaded  from  Nikon D300 to Ps Cs3

    Hello,
Wonder if any one can help.
Trying to download camera raw format pictures from a Nikon D300 into photoshop CS3. All that can be seen is the icons ( but no picture) . A dialoge box appears with a message saying that 'Ps does not support this type of file' ( ie. Nef) and therefore cannot show it.
Downoading to Photoshop bridge, the same issue appears where the icons are visible ( but no mininature image is shown.
    many thanks

    Robert-
If your PSCS3 version is fully upgraded it should read Nikon D300 files via built-in ACR without difficulty. If not, contact Adobe tech support. DNG... no thank you.
IMO you should also be running under either OS 10.4.11 or 10.5.3.
ACR works fine if one prefers a Photoshop Bridge or Lightroom workflow, but better NEF conversion (and IMO workflow) is available to owners of strong Macs via Apple's Aperture. Best quality NEF conversions come from Nikon View (free) and from Nikon Capture NX, but IMO Nikon's workflow is lethargic.

    Hello everyone,
someone can help me to use Camera RAW NEF files with the new Nikon Df?
    Thank you very much.

This thread has instructions for importing Nikon Df raw files in Lr5.3RC (by making them look like Nikon D4 raw files):

  • RAW NEF files in Aperture from Nikon Capture editing show no edits

Any NEF files that I have previously edited and re-saved in Nikon Capture Editor as a NEF file, do not display any of the changes when imported into Aperture. I only see the 'As Shot' version.
Interesting that the Finder in OS X shows the thumbnail correctly. Has anyone else seen this issue?
    Thanks, Scott K.

According to Scott Kelby, in an ancient treatise from when he was currying favor with Nikon, that's how NEFs work, and that's the beauty of most proprietary raw handlers. Capture's adjustments are merely instructions, saved along with the file, rather like adjustment layers. When you open the NEF in Nikon Capture, the instructions are added to the image. You can always cancel them and recover the original since nothing has actually been done to the original. Your preview thumbnail out of Capture is designed to exhibit the changes but I'm not surprised Aperture doesn't read the changes made in Capture.
If you saved out of Capture as a TIFF, aperture would see them.
