Difficulty with Numbers selection (novice)

How does one select a column or group of cells in Numbers without deleting cell contents?

Hi c,
You've posted in the community for discussions of issues and techniques involving Numbers for the Mac.
On a Mac, you can select a column using these two steps:
Click any cell to make the table active and show the column (and row) reference tabs.
Click the reference tab for  column (or for a row to) select that column (or row).
To add columns (or rows) to the selection:
in the second step above, click on the reference tab and hold the mouse button down; drag to add as many contiguous columns or rows as needed. Release the mouse button.
OR
Click the reference tab for the first row (or column).
Shift-click the reference tab for the last row (or column) to be selected.
All rows (or columns from first to last will be selected.
To select non-contiguous columns (or rows):
Click the reference tab for the first.
Command-click the reference tab for each column (or row) to be added to the selection.
To select a block of cells:
Click the first (eg.top left cell of the block)
Drag to the diagonally opposite corner block.
OR
Shift-click the cell at the opposite corner of the block to be selected.
The techniques should be similar for Numbers for iOS, but because there will be differences, I'll request this discussion be traansferred to the iWork for iOS community.
