Digi Core Audio 7. Anyone is using it without problems?

I took ProTools 7.0 but I'm hesitant on installing it, particularly for DigiCoreAudio 7, because I'm using 6.9.2 which works fine with my Logic, and I wouldn't find bad surprises. Anyone is using it with Logic 7.2.2?
Thanks

I think you need to ensure the Digi002 is connected properly. IE make sure the cables are connected all the way in, and that there is no other cables resting on top of them.
Also, if you have many FireWire things hooked up to the same computer... get rid of a few of them. This helps the FireWire bandwidth.

All of a sudden Digi Core Audio won't launch. Not with I-Tunes, Not With Pro Tools, not with audio through the internet. What should I do? HELP!!
I haven't installed or updated anything. I ran disk utility and I got a message in RED saying
    Volume Header Needs minor repair/
Volume Macintosh HD Needs to be repaired.
    1. HFS Volume Checked
    Volume Needs Repair
Someone suggested I hit the repair button but the repair disk button is grayed out.
What should I do next. I am basically computer illiterate, can you talk me through it like I am an 6 year old.
    Thanks!!

Hi, you cannot Repair the drive you are booted from... a silly OSX feature if you ask me!
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
(If perchance you cant Find your Install Disk, at least do the Safe Boot part above).
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.

Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...

That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

  • Quicktime 7.5.5 in Tiger breaks Digi core audio connection

Updated to 7.5.5 now Quicktime ignores my preference for Digi Core audio when playing movies (even quicktime movie trailers). iTunes plays through the Digi core audio as does all other audio applications, What gives?

Finally I've found a way, which worked well for me (QuickTime 7.5.5 to 7.4.1), go and see that link :
    http://www.macquebec.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3914
and this one to download a previous versions of quicktime :

But for some users it seems to have crashed everything... I own a powerbook G4 and OS 10.4.11 for info, and it replaced well quicktime 7.5.5 with 7.4.1

So that's my answer? Use an older version?
I purchased this HD 3.0 retail just recently. Can someone explain to me how I roll it back to the Core Audio approved version and/or when will Apple make this compatible with the Digi driver?
Very disappointing. The folks at CompUSA assured me all was well with compatability. I guess..not so much.

  • Elementary Question: Stop Using TM without Problems?

    Hi:
I have never used TM, but would like to experiment with it without problem. I have seen may threads where someone can't install on a partition on a drive or the drive, per se, because TM has been used on it. I know about deleting the backups.backupdb file--which probably will allow installation.
But, isn't there something one can do up front to keep this scenario from developing? Why does TM appear to think it has territorial rights over any drive partition is has been used on?
Also, am I right that a partition can be dedicated to the use of TM--i.e., not necessarily a whole drive. And, if TM is used on a partition, then does it lay claim to the whole drive or just the partition?

That's rare, and just OSX's way of insuring that you don't install it on a drive that has your backups on it, because TM won't work that way.
But, isn't there something one can do up front to keep this scenario from developing? Why does TM appear to think it has territorial rights over any drive partition is has been used on?
Don't try to install OSX on a drive that has TM backups on it.
Also, am I right that a partition can be dedicated to the use of TM
Yes. See #3 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
And, if TM is used on a partition, then does it lay claim to the whole drive or just the partition?
    No.
And as etresoft says, when done, erase the partition, don't delete it with the Finder. (That's only recommended if you have an empty Backups.backupdb folder that's preventing the installation of OSX.
+*Never, ever, move, change, or delete any TM backups via the Finder.+* That can hopelessly corrupt them, and may seriously hang your Mac.

  • Major Bug in Digi Core Audio Driver? Audio Out of Phase in Logic!

    In Logic 8.02 did the following;
Using a positive only impulse (only up then decays) I did a loop back test with the both the ADAT port and the analog I/O and both are recorded out out of phase.
Did the same tests in Logic using another Audio device with it's core drivers and all wall well - no phase issues here.
    Anyone else find this?

This is TERRIBLE! I have spent so much time working on this project, and I really don't want to adjust the speed settings to the preset levels, BECAUSE I need to motion of the video to match certain musical points. I can't re-film my video, and I needed this project done TODAY. I made a music video with some kids at summer camp, and today is the last day- the day we were supposed to all watch it together, and now, I've got NOTHING!!!! (Because I can't export it without all those glitches!)
I am MAJORLY DISAPPOINTED on this one. I've made movies in windows movie maker before, and purposely used imovie, because you know, everything on macs is supposed to be better. Well, I guess I was wrong.

  • Core Audio Format -- Is anybody using it?

CAF files are a new(ish) Audio File Format/Wrapper type. Apple made it.
    Qs
Is anybody using it with Logic? -- They do import
How? Why? -- They have several advantages but are relatively new, and it is not acknowlodged in Logic's documentation AFAIK.
Soooo...... There are other apps that support this Format, many including Logic will just plop them in as AIFF, for example. The format actually supports many audio file formats.
So within a CAF there can be audio of several types, sample rates, resolutions... They even support multichannel, markers, regions, music chunks.
In practice this could be a very useful format. Logic doesn't support all of it's features/formats but could be extended through QT or could hold limitations, probably why it is not listed as a supported format.
So is anybody taking advantage of this stuff, or hitting walls, having problems using these with Logic Pro?
    Just Curious.
    J

I have. I mentioned it imports -- prolly just certain cases where the underlying format is Logic approved. Haven't really worked with it much yet though with Logic as it was never cited that it was supported AFAIR. So I am guessing that it's underlying format needs to be a Logic approved one, but it imports 16, 24 and rejects 8 and 32. It also creates independent waveform overview files. I compared a 16 CAF to 16 AIFF, there were 3-6 lines which are different. Of course the header was in that list every time.
I was asking if there was anybody else using it so.... shrugs. It imports but I don't know of any advantage to use it, at the moment.
Maybe this will be the de facto 32/64 mixed file format when we get a new arrange window with sample resolution : ^)
    Cheers, J
Gr8-1. ja, right -- is that a fat joke?

I quit Garageband and tthe ad’s audio  plays correctly.
I launch Logic Pro 9.1.8  (latest Logic 9 version) ,the ad’s audio  is full ok clicks and pops.

I quit Safari and the Quicktime audio is ok.
NONE OF THE ABOVE IF I USE FIREFOX (latest version)
NONE OF THE ABOVE TOO IF Safari runs with the Firefox agent selected!
So, it is not a MBOX2 PRO issue or a firewire cable issue or a thunderbolt adaptor issue.
So it's Safari or Mavericks or ...

Strange. Now the problem is inverted. If Quicktime is running alone, now I get some audio glitches no matter if I choose the aggregate device or the Saffire Le as audio interface. If I launch Logic, the audio is clean.
(As usual all is fine if I use the built-in audio no matter waht sofwares are running)
    The problem is really inverted.
The only way to get clean audio with Quicktime alone is to destroy the aggregate device!
The good thing is that I have the control now. I can get rid of the audio glitches while running Logic.
Oh an btw my firefox is 15.0.1.Latest version. Under Activity Monitor/Disk/Kind, it show Firefox 32 bits.

  • Since upgrade to os5 video files from emails can no longer be viewed, they are downloaded as before, but I am no longer asked which program to open file with.  I used Azule without problems before os5' now os5 tries to open video file and stalls.  Any fix

Os5 must have changed playback functionality of video files, it tries to play .wmv files, but crashes...it shows "loading", but nothing happens.  Before update it would prompt me to choose an app to show the file, Azule worked great, but now it doesn't offer to chose an app.
    How do I fix this?

Indeed you were right. I though that in single mode all services were not started, but apparently I was mistaken.
However, as I feared, there seemingly is no useful info in it.

  • Digi 001 Core Audio Manager and Logic 7.1

I just upgraded to Pro 7.1 from logic 5.5.1. When I would start up 5.1.1 it would automaticly startup the coreaudio manager for the Digi. I've noticed now using 7.1 that I have to start the Digi Core Audio Manager before starting up Logic Pro or it will not recognize the Digi at all, and will remove the digi as a sound card selection. Does anyone else experience this same issue? Is it normal? I read into the logic help and it said with a TDM or HD digi hardware this would be necessary. I'm confused help would be appreciated.

Yes, this is normal when using Logic Pro 7.1 and Digi Coreaudio version 6.4. They seem to have fixed this in more recent versions of the coreaudio manager, but 6.4 is the last revision supported by the Digi 001.

  • How do I use 2 Core Audio devices at the same time in Logic w/out switching

Hello, I use the Aardvark Direct Mix usb3 as my audio interface for mic and guitar. I just upgraded to Logic Pro 7 today and was hoping someone could tell me how I could use the Built-in Audio Core Audio driver along with the Direct Mix USB Core Audio Driver at the same time without having to switch Core Audio Driver's and than rebooting Logic. It is very frustrating doing that as well as not being able to hear my Logic audio during playback/record mode when I am trying to record via the USB3. WHat can I do? Thanks! If ther are both core audio, why can I not just use both of them at the same time? Why must a switch back and forth? Thanks!
    [email protected]

THanks everyone! awsome article! Thanks for posting it, nh!
The weird thing is, once I go up to the Menu and select Open Aggregate Device Editor in the AUDIO/MIDI setup utility and try to add a new Aggregate Device setup (step # 6 from the link), the only audio device available is the "Built-in Audio". What's weird is when I have the main Audio MIDI Setup utility open, every single drop-down menu/tab has the "Direct Mix USB 3 1.0.9.1" device right beneath the "Built-in Audio" option. To me that says that the core audio device is indeed recognized by my computer (obviously since I can record with it using Logic). Can anyone help me with this one? Any suggestions?
Not that it should matter but, the hardware audio interface that I am using is made by the no-longer-existant company once known as Aardvark. I actually had to purchase a third party Core Audio driver just to have it recognized by OS X.
This is the website where I purchased my audio driver :
    http://www.usb-audio.com/
A little more on how this device and it's core audio driver function within Logic . . . (Hopefully this might clarify something I may be screwing up) . . .
I launch Logic with its default Built-in Audio which allows playback of audio from the app. I than go up to Audio Hardware and Drivers and than drop the flip down Driver menu down to the second option, "Direct Mix USB 3 1.0.9.1." Logic than prompts me that I should try to (re)launch Logic Pro to load the appropriate CoreAudio.. I do that. Now I am ready to record guitar through the Direct Mix USB3, I just can't hear anything (unless I use head phones as an output from the Direct Mix).
Anyway, you all probably already knew what I meant so explaining that was pointless. But my question is, if the Driver is obviously recognized by my comp in both the Audio MIDI Setup and in Logic, than why won't the Direct Mix device show up as a possibility for setting up an aggregate device? Any suggestions? Thanks!
