Digidesign 002 Rack with Logic Studio

Hi,
I have recently bought a macbook pro and am wanting to record at my drum teachers house. He uses an iMac running Pro Tools with the 002 Rack. As i am wanting to record and mix everything in logic, not pro tools, can i use a firewire 800 to 400 cable to connect the 002 Rack to my macbook and then record through that? Or is the 002 Rack not compatible with Logic?
Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
I believe in theory this should work.
You will need to download a driver called "Standalone Digidesign CoreAudio Drivers" for Mac OS X to make the 002 work on your system called. As I understand it this is for folks that have Digi Design hardware but don't have PT installed on there system.
Try this page for the driver that is at the bottom of the page.

I am sure folks that own an 002 and use it without PT can be of more help here than I.
Good luck,
Jay

Interested to know how digidesign 002 links with Logic Pro 9 ?

I have a 002 rack and it works flawless here. Running PT9 and have some error problems but I have run Logic all day and not even a hiccup. 32 in buffer all the time and lots of plugins.

  • How do I configure Soundtrack Pro2 to play audio using Digidesign 002 Rack?

How do I configure Soundtrack Pro2 to play audio using Digidesign 002 Rack? I have no problem using Logic 8 with the 002 Rack?
Can somebody explain the necessary process to make this work. Thanks

Add is probably not the best choice of terminology.
Going from memory (since I'm at home), you need to launch digiCoreAudio, then select your output in the System prefs as your digi hardware. After that you would see the digi hardware as an output in STP.

  • Using Digi 002 rack with FCP

Does anyone have experience with using a Pro Tools Digi 002 rack with Final Cut? I'm having some trouble making it work. I just want to be able to use during editing for audio output. The 002 shows up as viable device in audio/video setup, however, FCP claims it only has one output, instead of the 8 it has. Really, at this point in time I'd be happy with 2 channels recognized, but I certainly would like to stay away from mono. Any ideas?

    I'm running FCPHD 4.5

I think your best bet is to contact DigiDesign. I have run several searches on the FCP forums and SoundTrackPro forums for you. Nothing came up that indicates the device you are using works with FCP but I didn't read 'em all.

  • How do I get the Korg NanoKontrol to work with Logic Studio?

I just bought a Korg NanoKontrol control surface to use with Logic Studio but it isn't working right. I can get the faders and pan to work in one scene but the transport controls don't work in any scene. If anyone knows anything about how to get it to work please let me know.

Hey Scrooge, why the attitude? Did anyone here mistreat you? And why hijack the thread?
Anyway, if you loose settings minutes after they worked, I would say the hardware may be shaky. Or the cabling. Or the operators' skills.
Ambient8 has gracefully and concisely pointed the way, and if something is not working just describe what and how it is, instead of complaining (on somebody else's thread) to people who voluntarily try to offer help & solutions.
    Ambient8:
+"Pay special attention to "Assigning Key Commands to Control Surfaces" on page >164+
+The rest need to be set up as a control surface by using the Learn (Command+L) function to assign faders to tracks and knobs to pans, etc.+
+See the Logic Pro 8 Control Surfaces Support guide in the Help menu for info on controller assignments. Chapter 2 "Customizing Controller Assignments" has the info assigning controllers to Logic Pro parameters."+
If you say I did exactly as described on these pages, and all your settings seemed to disappear, I can only assume that either something is wrong with your Logic prefs, the logic.cs file or the CS itself.
    Regards, Erik.

  • What is the best external typing keyboard for use with logic studio?

I'm currently using Logic 7 and looking to upgrade to Logic STUDIO.
I want to get a nice typing keyboard with coloured and customised keys (short-cuts) to use in place of the MACBOOK keyboard.
I have previously bought the stickers from Editors keys, but there key command sets suck.
Hoping someone can suggest a better company offering a better product with more intuitive key command settings so that it matches well with LOGIC STUDIO - assuming its been simplifed with its work flow, I want a typing keyboard to match.
Also is it worth gettinga jog wheel to use in place of or in addition to a mouse - I think this is called a shuttle.
Anyway please send your suggestions through.
    Thanks

I believe that there are keyboard overlays for Logic available for the Apple Keyboards... although, I don't think there's anything for 8 yet, seeing as the release probably took them by surprise.
However, I do agree that using a wireless keyboard and mighty mouse are must-haves... at least in my studio. They allow me to work at my piano and control Logic from a distance (I don't like assigning MIDI commands, outside of my control surface). However, I do with that Logic would recognize the presence of a Mighty Mouse and allow assigning the remaining button presses to other features in Logic, like showing the floating toolbox while the right-click handles the contextual menus.

  • Digidesign 192 units with Logic Pro X

Hi- is it possible to use 2/3 Digidesign 192 units with Logic Pro X or am i still relegated to 8 ch in/out w the D. core audio driver? I recently bought an Universal Audio Apollo 16 that I can use for mixing/editing on my iMac or MacBookPro but I have 2 192 units and am thinking of buying another to run on an 2009 Mac Pro for live recording or would I be better off just selling the 192's and purchasing another Apollo 16for 32 tracks for live recordings?
I could only get 8 ch in/out with LP 9 and will need more inputs for the live recording rig and would rather use Logic than PT 8.
    Thanks!

Logic Remote detects Logic Pro via Bonjour, which is done via a technology called "DNS Multicast". AirPlay, etc. all work this way. Make sure it has the most recent firmware and maybe google for issues with it.

  • How to use the Optical in on 002r with Logic Studio?

    Hi there
i'm trying to figure out a problem that i really can't find a solution,i'm using Logic studio 8 whith Digi 002rack and 7.4 core audio version,my question is how to select in logic the optical IN of the 002r that in my case is connected to my triton rack synth?
i can use the spdif in of the 002 but i can't find a way to use the optical in.
    thanks all

I dont know if you will be able to connect other device like PS3 or Wii.
As far as I know only the Xbox 360 could be connected to a Qosmio and could be used with the Windows MCE.
I presume this is possible due to connection of Microsoft products; MCE and Xbox360
To be honest; why you dont take a look into the user manual if this notebook is new to you?
All details are mentioned in the user manual which is already preinstalled on the notebook.

  • Getting Audio/MIDI to recognize my Digidesign 002 rack

I just upgraded from a G4 with Tiger to an iMac with Leopard. As I wait for Pro Tools LE to upgrade for Leopard compatibility, I thought I'd try to learn Garageband. Although I copied my old hard drive over to my new one and attached my Digi 002 rack to my firewire port, I can't seem to get the iMac to recognize it in the Audio/MIDI setup dropdowns (which only show built-in mic, etc.). Do I need to install some software or is there another step I'm missing? I'd appreciate any help--thanks in advance!

(there is a an installation of Pro Tools LE already on it with the Asio driver provided by digidesign).
There have always been issues with Digidesign hardware that was really only intended to work with PT. I'm amazed that it works at all with Audition, quite frankly!
There is a version 7 driver update, and that might help, I suppose. The other thing to note is that both the PT ASIO and wave drivers are both very much single-client, and preview playing has always been a slightly separate issue as far as Audition is concerned, and that may well be why the only thing left in the OS that can play anything is the wave mapper (which has always been absolute garbage...). And make sure that the system sounds are turned completely off - that alone would stop the preview working, I suspect.
The other thing you could try doing is to install ASIO4ALL (free) on the machine as a replacement for the WIndows Audio Driver, and try using that instead - it's rather more forgiving, and is capable of integrating hardware rather well, one way or another. Also it gives you better diagnostics and a couple more options to try.
Other than that lot, there isn't a lot you can do, though.

  • Audio hardware interface to use with Logic Studio 8 and Pro Tools M-Powered

I want to get Logic Studio and Pro Tools M-Powered. I do film sound design and music as a hobby. I plan to compose music with Logic and edit film audio with Pro Tools.
    Here is my main concern:
I want to get ONE firewire audio interface that will work with both programs (Logic Studio and Pro Tools). I need one that has multiple outputs because I will be mixing in surround sound (mostly the film audio). Are there any suggestions? Inputs on what people like, don't like, work well with both? What I should completely avoid? I figured Pro Tools M-Powered (as opposed to LE, HD) would be better for me simply because of price and possibly using the m-audio interface with Logic too.
Let the advice begin please. I will be happy to answer any questions you have for me that would help you provide better advice for me.
    Thank you in advance

Yes, Logic Studio is surround sound capable, but unfortunately a lot of places that I would potentially like to be working at, that do audio post, that I've seen, require a knowledge of Pro Tools. I know it's not the best but it's the industry standard and it's what many companies use so I need to learn it (basically). I don't want to limit myself to stereo outs on the audio interface on PT. Maybe I should to keep my budget down though??? I guess now I'm looking at PT LE and the 003 family, this one in particular
    http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?langid=100&navid=126&itemid=5028
I dunno, by the time it's "technically" compatible with Leopard I might be able to afford it.
Anyone currently using Pro Tools LE with Leopard right now? For some people it apparently works???

  • Using Digi 003 interface with Logic Studio or Pro

I currently have a modified (Black Lion Audio) Digi 003 Rack interface that I use with Pro Tools, but would like to get Logic Studio (or Pro). I have heard 50% say that the Digi 003R or Mixer won't work (properly) with Logic and I have heard another 50% say that it works fine. Can somebody please end this debate once and for all, so I can make the big $500-$1000 decision. I'm really itching to get Logic so I can use all of its great features. I would like to hear that it works fine, but if not, I'd rather know the facts before wasting my money. Thank you to anybody who can put this question to rest.

Lets clear up some things - Logic Studio comes with Logic Pro. . . so that's $500. Logic Pro 7 is old and you don't need it anymore, it WAS $1000. So, no need to spend a grand on Logic.
Next, 003R works absolutely fine as an interface with Logic. The mixer won't work as a control surface (although it will work fine as an interface) because Digi's control surface stuff is proprietary and isn't made to work with Logic.
So, to sum up - Logic Studio is Logic Pro 8 and a ton of other apps and its only $500.
003 Rack works fine with Logic.

  • Optical output using a DigiDesign 002 Rack

    Hi there,
I'm wanting to use the optical output on my 002 Rack but am not able to get it working (no sound).
The rack's connected to my Macbook Pro (firewire), and I'm running Logic Pro 8.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi all,
Just a quick question in addendum to what has been said. Perhaps best directed to the Digidesign/Avid technical support people...
The Digi 002 has an option for "Mirrored Outputs from analog 1+2 to Digital Out" in the Core Audio Manager. Surely one should thus see signal being input when the system pref's input is set to Digital In, right?
Or is there no way to monitor via analog 1+2 and output via the digital ADAT on the 002 at the same time? Does one have to flip sources in the hardware manager in Pro Tools?
I thought mirrored would send to both outputs, but clearly it doesn't as I'm seeing no input from Digi 002 digital out to Mac digital in in the system pref's input level bars.
Any advice would be dearly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Not able to install Logic on mac with OSX.  10.8.2. Error message: Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported. I have logic studio 8 software purchased in 2007 and upgraded with logic studio 9 (purchased in 2009)

After an earlier attempt to move Logic from my other mac (OSX 10.6.8) with the migration assistant to my new mac with OSX 10.8.2. I've re-started the whole start up process by erasing the hard drive from the new machine and build it up from scratch. After a new "out of the box" start, I decided to install LOGIC from my disks : starting with my 2007 package Logic Studio 8 and upgrading with my Logic 9 package from 2009. When trying to start to install 2008 I got the error message : Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported.
What does this mean? HOw do I get this working under 10.8.2 as it works flawlessly under OSX 10.6.8. For sure I didn't buy a new machine to have OSX 10.8.2 but I suspect this is the roadblock to installing my logic package.
    Help!

    Mark,
    Sorry...
I completely lost the thread (I actually got confused between you and another poster on a another forum that was asking the same basic question) and somehow ended up thinking you were trying to install on a PPC Mac
My apologies and please ingnore those parts of my last post relating to the PPC Macs...
You have an Intel Mac and therefore Logic Studio 2 Boxed Upgrade set should install/run on your Mac without issue. As I said earlier.. you do not need to try and install from the original Logic Studio 1 /Logic 8 Boxed set...(It won't work anyhow because you have an Intel Mac and that version had a PPC installer)  but just install from the Logic Studio 2 / Logic Pro 9 Upgrade Boxed setof DVDs instead...
Have you tried the "Make Disk Image" solution I gave earlier? That normnally works under such circumstances as what you are describing can happen when your DVD drive cannot read the DVDs correctly... I have had this situation myself where one drive read them okay and another failed to do so for whatever reason. Making and then installing from Disk images of those exact same disks resolved the issue for me...
You can try to reinstall directly from the DVDs of course though under some circumstances it may not allow you to reinstall Logic Pro itself if that part of the original installation attempt was successful... in which case you can also try this... (It's probably the easiest method if Logic 9 was already installed and present in your Apps Folder)
If the Logic Pro App is in your applications folder..
Run Software Updates to update Logic Pro to a version that will run under 10.8.2 (The initially installed version of Logic will not)
    Run Logic
Go to the menu bar in Logic and select Logic Pro/Install Additional Content and select all content in there..
This content is basically exactly the same as what is stored on the remaining DVDs of the boxed set so you might not need to use the rest of the DVDs to install from but download it all instead from Apple Servers...

  • Mac Book Pro going to keep up with Logic Studio

I am looking at purchasing a mac book pro 17" and would like to know if it is sufficient for Logic Studio use or if I should budget for a Pro Mac tower configuration.

Simon, I think you should fess up that the comparison here is made gainst a G5 running ProToolsLE, which is the same as filling up a Toyota Corolla's boot (trunk, for those in the other world), with concrete and driving it up the biggest hill you can find... with the air conditioner on.
I have Logic running on a G5 2x2 and a MacbookPro 2.2. Both are comparable with the same sessions, though the screen redraws on the MBPro are a fair bit snappier. The video card would adequately account for that, as the G5's card is 64meg and the MBPro is 128meg and a whole lot newer.. I believe Simons is actually 256meg.
The video performance doesn't effect audio performance at all.

  • Should I go with Logic Studio or PT LE Maudio?

1st I can get Logic Studio for $250 from apple friend.
With Maudio PT LE Academic I can get it for $149 and also get digitranslator (go figure) to score to picture.
The first thing I do is songs, therefore Digi LE (a rip-off I know) but has a great drum machine Strike.....
I've tried them all, addictive drums, BFD, EZDrummer, you name it I tried it. And the cool thing about strike is the one key board change and it round robins to never sound the same and can be very inspirational.
Second I do sound design and have scored for trailers, so maybe the STUDIO (logic 8) down the road!
    What do you think?
    Thanks.
Please no apple bias, just looking for a good answer!

I dropped PT like a bad habit years ago. The reason, besides not being very user friendly, was that it took them forever to come out with an upgrade for the new Mac OS at the time. Since then, I only use apple DAWs for Apple machines because I know it is going to work.
