Digital audio problem

Hello!
I Have weird problem with digital audio output in my MB (alu but not pro).
Always i have connect mu MB to the ampli through optical cable (spdif).
At about two weeks I have problem witch i try to explain (sorry for my bad english):
First, internal speakers system and headphone ar not touched with this!
When i start computer with connected optical cable to output port, or connect in in this moment, all looks to be fine, iTunes play audio, other software, included system sounds are played.
When i try to play something in Dolby Digital or other multichannel sound, all work fine, souds are played.
After that, when I try to play something like iTunes, system sounds or fe. mp3 in VLC, I hear nothing, software looks like they play audio, but nothing go to amplituner.
Only restart of my MB helps, to next try of digital (multichannel) audio.
I connect start of this problem with installing Final Cut Pro X (I have uninstall it) but maybe its only accidentally.
My OS is 10.6.8 on mac model 5.1.
Please for any sollution.
Rebards

Hello again.
In thread added above i have found sollution.
Case is connected with system update from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8.
Solution is replace new AppleHDA.kext with this from 10.6.7 (or 10.6.6) version 1.9.9f12
In my case this help and now digital audio works fine.

  • Digital Audio Problem w Marantx sr4300

Hi there, i just got my atv2 and after i'd connect it and update to 4.1.1, digital audio not work on my Marantz SR4300 AV receiver, i tryed all the settings in "Audio And Visual" menu but nothing .....digital audio still not work. The reiceiver accepts a lot of devices in all these years without any problem...it sounds good!
I'm going crazy! thinking to return it to the shop and wait for the ATV3

Hi, you're right, i connect it with a low cost optical toslink, but no problem with other devices.
At the first time i'd update to 4.1.1 and after i tryed all the features so i don't know if it works without the update.
My atv is connected via hdmi to the samsung lcd and audio is ok, but i want it in my receiver (via optical)!
i hope to explain it a little.
    Thanx.

  • Digital audio problems on Satellite A300 (PSAGCA-06M01N)

    Hey,
Only a few weeks ago I noticed my laptop is advertised with Digital audio. I looked through the Windows sound options, it told me it was in the front jack. After a lil' googleing I discovered mini-Toslink (3.5mm optical).
I bought a cable, plugged it in, doesn't work.
Made sure drivers were installed, everything seems to be fine there.
Tested the cable in my friends computer, cable works.
So now I don't know where to go from here?
To me it seems as though the jack or plug inside is broken, because when I plug a normal headphone plug into the port it pops a message stating something just got plugged in, it however does not do this with the optical cable.
Has anyone got there HD Audio working on any similar Toshiba? Or does anyone have any ideas as to why It may not be working?
    Thanks for any help!

    I assume you are using the right cable;
    Check this:
+No digital audio out on my Headphone - S/P-DIF jack+
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSD57013M000UR01.htm
If you are using the right cable then you should try to update the Realtek sound driver.
The newest one can be downloaded from the Realtek page directly.
You should also go to device manager and should update the Intel high definition audio it should be placed in sound, video, and game controllers
Additionally update the Microsoft UAA Bus driver for high definition audio.
Let windows search for the updates automatically. Should work
Then reboot the unit and check the digital output again

  • 10.4.9 - Major audio problems with digital audio

I have a Digital XMPCR radio with Edirol MA-20D Digital speakers
I now have major audio problems, the audio is garbled and doesn't sound as strong. Kinda like a FM radio in a car that is loosing signal when you are traveling.
I use this XMPCR for a couple of hours a day and had no problems this morning prior to installing the update.
I have a XMPCR that was modified for Toslink/Digital connection. I connect the XMPCR to my Mac Pro 2.66 with toslink cables and connect my Edirol MA-20D digital speakers with toslink cables. I use Amoeba's "LineIn" for audio pass through.
I thought it might me the FTDIUSBSerialDriver so I reinstalled it, did not fix the problem.
I also have a real bad "buzzing" sound going on in the background. When I quit JXM (the application for changing channels on the XMPCR), the "buzzing" goes away but I have a rapid ticking sound coming out of the speakers until I quit LineIn.
Anyone else have any problems with their digital audio input/outputs?

I dont use the digital XMPCR radio, but I use Digital Performer to record audio and MIDI and I use exclusively the Built-In Audio input and Output and everything is working fine after the 10.4.9 Upgrade.

  • Sat P10 Digital Audio/Buttons Problem.

My new Toshiba (Sat P10-873) laptop has buttons on the front of it for playing digital audio and CD's. I use the mode button to switch between audio CD and the music CD, the problem being then when I switch to digital audio, it opens up media player and plays the default "David Byrne" track, rather than my playlist. According to the manual it should play the last opoened playlist but this for some reason does not work. Every time i close media player and then press the play button, it loads media player and begins playing David Byrne. Any suggestions on how I could fix this? Do i have to put my playlist in a certain location? or the audio itself? Do I need to set an option some where? Thanks.

Well, I had only had the PC about half an hour at the time i was trying to do this so obviously no updates and no changes made at this time to the system.
I have however solved the problem myself so just incase anybody else needs to know:
The answer really was rather simple, for some reason, media player was saving my playlists under the "My Documents" folder of "Owner" rather than in my "My Documents" folder. I copied the playlist file from there and into my "My Music" folder and voila, everytime I switch to digital mode, it loads my playlist. Hope that made sense. Thanks for the help.

  • Digital Audio not working on Satellite A505 S6012

My digital audio stopped working suddenly.  I use HDMI to send the video out of my laptop to my projector.  I had been successfully using, for over a year, a digital audio cable in the headphone (SP/DIF) jack to output the sound to my home receiver.  The default audio set in the control panel is Realtek Digital Audio.
If I set the output to speakers and plug headphones in the jack, I get sound.  If I set the output to Realtek Digital Audio and plug the digital audio cable in, I get no sound.  I've tried new cables, changing the input to a different conection on my receiver, reinstalling the Realtek driver, and, as a last resort, completely recovering my laptop to the factory setting.  Digital Audio still does not work.
Any suggestions?  This is the main way we watch movies in my home.

hi, have you try out srs audio program it nice!

  • Digital Audio output for W series - Alternatives

There's a thread talking about the displayport does not have audio-output.  Its true and some people get victimized by ill-trained sales people who think their displayport is standard.  There's no literature on Lenovo website warning users about the audio issue either - such thread is closed with the fact that (some) other manufacturers in the same period does have have audio either and Lenovo think they should be in the same boat.
Let's not go into the blamish again, but discuss what we can do with existing options with alternative digital audio out and line-in that the W series really really missed.
We have (1) mini-dock and (2) USB soundcard listed as options
I currently use a USB DAC (digital to analog) system and it do really good in terms of stereo music enjoyment.  However my particular system does not have digital manupilated sound like 3-D surround or multi-channel output and not suprisely, laptop USB generally produce greater latency than desktop USB ports.
Besides USB, we have 1394 and express card 34 as expansion options.
What's your setup for digital audio out?  Anyone know any internal soundcard that fits the slots of Wireless USB/Turbo memory PCI ports that all W-series have?

    Other alternatives include
I know on mackbooks I've seen firewire used as an input for a Weiss Dac if you're into two channel audio.  Do any reiceivers take firewire as an input for hometheater?  Has anyone tested Firewire outputs on their W series?  I'm told that firewire is sometimes preferable to USB, I'm not sure why this would be, can USB support passthrough of DTS encoded signals?
In the case that firewire works and you Do not have a firewire source, maybe something like this would be of value  It converts firewire to digital coaxial s/pdif and allows passthrough of DTS and AC3.
    http://www.m-audio.com/images/global/manuals/FireWire-Audiophile_Manual.pdf
As I'm into audio the critical thing here (and what you're paying for when you purchase blue-ray, is maintaining the digital information from the disk in an unconverted form.  You want a direct bit pass through, and you want as little jitter introduced to the signal as possible.  You most certainly don't want the sound card getting in the way, Digtital to Analog converting and then reverse packaging it up and putting it out over the soundcard digital out.  My problem is I'm not familiar enough with computer audio to know how exactly the sounds is transmitted from your blue ray drive to the digital interface you've chosen.
Anyone know why USB digital out would not be a prefered method?

I recently (Jan 2012) acquired a MacBook Pro (MBP) running 10.7.4 and an AirPort Express.  I also have an old PPC G4 tower (Digital Audio model) running 10.4.11.  The OS software on both machines is totally up to date.  AirPort Utility on the G4 is 5.4.2 and on 6.0 on the MBP.  I bought a used AirPort card for the G4, I believe it is 802.11b compatible, and the wireless data rate is specified at 11 Mbps.  Being a newbie to wireless, it took me many days to get these two machines to link up.  This network is not connected to the internet, and there no other networks in the vicinity.
My last problem to solve is the very slow file transfer speeds between the two machines. The transfer time seems to vary depending on which machine I use to initiate the transfer, and which direction the transfer is going.  For example: If I initiate the transfer from the G4 and send a 5.4MB file to the MBP it takes 1:32 (min:sec), while the same file going from the MBP to the G4 takes 27 seconds.  On the other hand if the transfer is initiated on the MBP, going from the MBP to the G4 takes 2:56, while going from the G4 to the MBP takes 1:59.  I realize that these times are not actual wireless transfer times but includes the entire transfer process.
Both machines and the AirPort Express are within a 4-foot radius.  Both machines are set to radio channel 2.  The AirPort Express is set for 802.11n(802.11b/g compatible) with WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    BDAqua,
    Thanks for the response.
Apple has used the term "Digital Audio" to identify this machine.  System Profiler has the following information:
    Machine Name:          Power Mac G4
      Machine Model:          PowerMac3,5
      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (2.1)
      Number Of CPUs:          1
      CPU Speed:          800 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU):          256 KB
      Memory:          768 MB
      Bus Speed:          133 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          4.3.3f2
      Serial Number:          XBxxxxxMK9
      Sales Order Number:
Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet.  The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing.  With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

  • [Solved] Difficulty getting digital audio to play in all applications

This is probably a noobish question...
My motherboard supports digital audio out via S/PDIF cable (optical), as well as standard analog audio. I have a stereo receiver that I've plugged my optical cable into.
When I go to systemsettings > Multimedia > Phonon > Audio Playback, I put the "HDA Intel S/PDIF Digital" device on top and clicked Test. I could hear the test tone (playback source is PCM).
However, if I go to play an MP3 or whatever, I have to go into the settings for each application and tell it to use that particular device. Some applications (such as Firefox) do not have obvious settings for audio playback. Is there a way to solve the problem once and for all (tell the audio system "send everything through the digital device all the time")?
(I read the relevant section of the wiki, but it is focused on getting sound out of your digital device, not making it the default.)
Any other advice or gotchas about using digital audio would also be appreciated.
    Thanks!

My .asoundrc looks the same as above. But just for fun, I also tried removing it and restarting alsa, with no change.
I'm testing output by going to systemsettings > Multimedia > Phonon and clicking the Test button with "HDA Intel (AD198x Digital)" selected. Nothing comes out through SPDIF, though it does play through analog (I have two separate pairs of headphones plugged in, one to the analog jack and one to a headphone amp plugged through the digital port) so I can tell which port the audio is coming from).
I've checked the hardware volume, and it appears to be in order. The amp is not reporting any audio signal on the optical port. I tried switching out the cable just to be paranoid, and still nothing. I believe this is a software problem.
    Any ideas?

  • When external speakers are plugged in to headphone jack, sound randomly goes back to internal speakers or digital audio setting, then back again

I have an essentially new MacBook Pro with Lion and all updates applied, and am wondering if this is a hardware or software problem.  Essentially with something plugged into the headphone jack, things work as they are supposed to for a while, then the sound will switch back to internal speakers, or sometimes 'digital out' (I can watch it change in the system settings), and then often switch back.  It doesn't seem to follow any sort of pattern or be related to any specific application that could be open, and happens with different sources of audio (iTunes, streaming from the web), and different external speakers or headphones plugged in.

Sounds hardware related. If it's brand new, and you're still under warranty I would have it checked out.
I have not experienced this on my computer.
As I understand it, you have analog RCA outputs from an 1/8" to left and right RCA outputs. when you're randomly using the computer, it'll switch to internal speakers, then to digital audio, back to your stereo analog external speakers.
This should not be happening and if it's happening with streaming content (I am unaware of anything that streams in 5.1 digital audio) then this must be something that an apple specialist should look at and consider.
Does this happen with the headphone jack out? when you hold your finger over the headphone jack area does a red beam come out of it *blinking* or just on? This will be a good indicator that your audio hardware is faulty. are you running HDMI out?

  • Won't Change Back to Regular Audio After Setting "Encoded Digital Audio"

I have a first generation Mac Pro, and I've just recently upgraded to Lion. I used to play a fair bit of DVDs on the computer, but recently I've slacked off doing that. Today I popped in a DVD to play and then opened DVD Player up. Everything worked fine as it was supposed to. I've got the DVD player set to send digital audio out so I can get surround sound through my receiver. When I quit DVD player I don't get sound anymore through the optical out unless it's encoded digital audio. I've had that problem before, and to solve it I'd go to Audio Midi Setup and change the format to what it was prior to being set to "Encoded Digital Audio" by DVD Player. However, now with the upgrade to Lion it will not switch back. The option to do it is there, and I can click on 16, 20, or 24bit audio all day long and I won't get audio output from that port unless I restart the computer.
This is obviously a system bug that needs to be reported to Apple if they aren't aware of it already, but what I'm wanting to know is how can I avoid restarting to get audio back? Restarting Core Audio doesn't do the trick as I've already tried that.

From the iPod's Main Menu choose Videos -> Settings and make sure TV Out is set to Off.
Otherwise, try a hard reset as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Enabling Simultanious Analog and Digital Audio Signals

My apple TV runs through a Yamaha receiver. It is hooked up with component video and digital audio cables. I also need to hook analog audio to my receiver so it can play outdoor speakers through zone 2 (which only recognizes analog signals). Zone 2 does not work when I hook both digital and analog cables. Called Yamaha and they said to look for a setting on Apple TV that enables simultanious analog and digital audio signals. Does anyone know if/how this can be done? Or any other way to make the analog zone work without losing digital on the main zone?

AFAIK, the analog audio on the ATV outputs all the time. The audio output setting in the ATV just determines whether the digital output is Dolby or PCM. Try turning off Dolby in the ATV audio settings and see if that makes a difference. If not, the problem is probably elsewhere.

  • Digital Audio In to Line Out Not working.

How do you route digital Audio in to Line out?  I have a 2010 Mac Pro, running digital in and have validated it's a good signal.  No sound through the line out.
In the interim, i've used Audio Hijack to route it through the line out with no issue.  I'm confused as to why i must use this 3rd party product to route the audio. Any ideas, this can't possibly be a new problem.
    Thanks!

I've had problems connecting my computer to my cable box as well. Comcast apparently disables some of the functions on its boxes. Call your cable company. It's most likely a problem with your box, not your computer.
Good luck and if you find the problem let me know.

  • Digital Audio G4 and Radeon 9800 Pro

Has anyone had the same fuss w/a Digital Audio and ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition? Been through about 5 cards (lost count somewhat) and constantly getting a display of the video card (with its power connector flashing red) on a black screen. Only by opening the box and reconnecting the power connections, and sometimes reseating the card, do I get successful results, with the Mac booting properly.
No other card (others that I use do not require an additional power connector like the 9800 does) seems to have this problem; all boot properly.
There is a Sonnet 1.8 Ghz Dual CPU upgrade, 2 internal hard drives, a raid card, and FW 800 and FW 400/USB2 cards, but additional power connections for those have been unplugged. I'm good with letting any external devices run on their own power.
Thanks much, to anyone that may have a suggestion or a solution.

    Hi-
With regards to the connector graphic, this invariably means that there isn't power connected.
State the obvious, but, have you tried pulling power from a different connector? Maybe try a new extension........ Molex connectors can work loose from the cap, and slide back when attaching to a device. This would give the appearance of being connected, though in reality, otherwise.
Have you tried without any of the PCI cards installed? I wouldn't want to remove the processor, either, though the dual does pull some power at boot. The DA PSU, however, should be able to handle both the processors and the 9800..... unless the PSU has a weak 12v/5v/3.3v rail....
Pulling the PCI cards will clear up whether or not the problem is with power in the PCI bus.
As for posting a picture, you need to host the picture at a site like Photobucket or Imageshack. Then, place a link (produced at the host site) in your thread.

  • Can I use HDMI port on my Macbook Pro for digital audio INPUT?

Trying to find a way to get digital audio input to my new MBP with retina.  HDMI supports audio and video, so can I use that port as an input?

It is not recommenced to use TimeMachine in a partition, either on the boot drive or externals because of problems in the past with that arrangement.
You also need hardware protection in addition to software protection.
If you want to do what I do, which is have a second 50% partition bootable clone of the first.
1: Use BootCamp software to create yourself a 50% sized partition, then exit the program. (you also can do it in Disk Utility, but it's tricky)
2: Head to Disk Utility and select the BOOTCAMP partition and change it's name and format to OS X Extended Journaled.
(To map off bad sectors in advance, use Disk Utility Erase with the next to last on the right selection, improves reliability and makes for faster reads)
3: Download Carbon Copy Cloner, now select your Macintosh HD partition and clone it to the second partition.
4: Whenever you want to boot from the second partition, just hold the option key down on the keyboard to select it to boot from.
You can access the folders on the second boot partition as well, to grab deleted files you accidentally erased (which is a rare thing for most to occur) however you should leave it alone and as a clone.
You can update the clone when you need to, or schedule it to run automatically.
You should also do this occasionally with a external drive, as the internal drive can die and take both partitions with it.
I currently do this with my laptop, that way if I'm mobile and have a serious issue, I can boot from the cloned partition in seconds without carrying a drive around. If I need large space for something I wasn't aware of, I can erase the clone partition and later clone it again.
Software does all the work, just pick a time your not using the machine and let it work. Painless really.
