Digital AV Adapter (A1422) iPhone 4 Issue

I've been using the Digital AV Adapter (A1422) on my iPhone 4 for a couple of weeks now, it showed up in the general settings as tv-out and also the top bar is always highlighted blue when I plug it in, but just recently, it stopped working, when I plug it, the top bar is highlighted blue, but the tv-out option is not in general settings, and videos do not work, by videos I mean videos played through Safari, not third party apps. There is no signal on the TV as well, and it's been the same TV I've been using in the recent weeks to watch content. I don't know how to fix this issue without buying another adapter, but it seems to be recognised by the iPhone 4, as it does show up in the about section as "Digital AV Adapter".
I've read upon the issue and I see there the one I have is the newer revision from the original A1388, but it's been working fine for a couple of weeks, this issue just started 3 days ago, tried everthing, turning off and on, different televisions, still doesn't work but it is recognised by the iPhone 4.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I know it doesn't support mirroring for iPhone 4, and I know with iOS 6 standard tv-out doesn't really work within third party apps. What I mean is I use videos through the safari browser as it uses the in-built iOS video player, I also use it for downloaded videos. This feature I've been using for months, and it just recently stopped working.

  • Digital AV adapter for iphone 4s doesnt show video only audio now since os upgrade

digital av cable no longer works on 1 phone 4s, the os was upgraded to 6.01, i do get audio but no video.

The current iOS is obviously seeing your Car as a TV.  I would contact the manufacturer and see if your vehicle needs any update, or if they recommend changing any certain settings to be compatible with your vehicle so the iPhone is not seeing it as a TV.  Each vehicle is 100% different so the manufacturer would be the best one to solve this issue for you.  Alternately, if you have an aux input, buy a 3.5mm audio cable and plug your iPhone to the car using the headphones jack.  This will obviously limit the connection to only audio.

  • HT4108 Problem with charging iPhone 5 using Digital AV adapter.

When using the Digital AV adapter, my iPhone 5 recognizes the adapter, shows the charging symbol briefly and then it disappears and the phone does not charge.  The video mirror through HDMI works without issue.  Both the charge cable and Digital AV are official apple cables.  The issue occurs whether an HDMI cable is plugged in to the adapter or not.
Anybody else have this issue are have suggestions to fix?
    Thanks,
    JB

Yes, cable works fine alone with it.  I thought it might be something to do with the iphone power adapter and tried using the higher powered ipad adapter, but had the same results.

  • Does the iPhone 4S support HDMI- OUT via the digital AV adapter?

Does the 4S support HDMI ->OUT via the digital AV adapter or not?  I read that it does (whether it be mirroring, YouTube video playback, movie playback, etc.) but I'm not having any luck.  I recently tried my AV adapter (that I normally use with my iPad 2) but I get nothing.  When I power cycle the phone after connecting the adapter, I get a error stating that the "accessory is not supported by iPhone".  When I go to play a YouTube video, it shows up on the phone's screen for a second and then disappears.  The LCD TV I am connected to never prompts me for the detection of a new HDMI device being connected" either, do I have no clue what's going on.
    Any ideas? Thought?
Any help to solving this riddle once and for all would be appreciated.
    Thanks and Happy New Year!!
    Andy
    P.S. - my 4S is running iOS 5.0.1 and is a Verizon 16gb model.

The model number on the adaptor is A1388. The link is here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC953ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE
    I have the iPhone 4s, running 5.0.1 (9A405)
I have also experimented with sequence, and I see no particular order needed to make it work. Generally I get it all plugged in and then swipe the iPhone and in a few moments, the screen appears in mirroring mode. Then if I go to Videos I can play my clips with sound, or I can do Keynote presentations, etc.
So sorry to hear you're having trouble. I imagine you've already double-checked that you're seating it solidly in the dock connector and have a good, working HDMI cable. I am not sure what you mean in your original post about "powering up" the phone. It might also be some Verizon issue, though I don't know what that might be. Is your AV adaptor the Apple branded one?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your phone doesn't do mirroring, only the 4S will do that. It only does basic AirPlay.
Websites and third party Apps need enabling before they will allow AirPlay of Video content. Some Website/App developers have not enabled their products, some simply haven't got around to it yet, others have stated that they won't be enabling AirPlay (likely as a result of licensing issues).

  • Is there a way to use the Apple digital AV adapter to mirror the iPhone 4 (not 4s) screen on my TV?

I purchased the Apple digital AV adapter and an HDMI cable from the Apple store so that I could display the content of my phone on my TV.  It works for video and photo slide shows but I want to mirror my phone content like you can for the iPhone 4s.  Is there a work around to make this adapter work for me?
    Thanks for your help.
    Diana

Rather than mirror the display, set it to 'extended desktop' and have the browser on one screen and the movie on the other.
CMD F1 will toggle between mirror and extended.

  • Iphone 4 digital AV adapter will not display on tv while also charging iphone

I was watching a video from my iphone 4 on my tv using the original (2011) version of the digital AV adapter (MC953ZM/A). This is the first time I've tried this. My iphone battery went dead, and cut off the video. So, I plugged the power adapter into a wall outlet and into the charging slot on the digital AV adapter. Now, when I try to restart the movie on the tv, it just plays on the iphone and never goes to the tv. I can't find an explanation for this in the documentation, so was wondering if anyone else has run into a similar problem.
I've previously used the same digital AV adapter on my ipad 2, and been able to watch it on the tv at the same time that it was charging.
It just seems odd to me that it works on the ipad, but not iphone.
Or maybe I'm missing something ..
    Paul

Try plugging in the USB mains power block and plug into the AV adaptor.
I have found that the iPad, alone, hasn't enough power to send out a stable HDMI signal to the TV without having extra external power being plugged in.
    Good Luck!

  • Can you mirror iphone 4 to macbook pro using 30-pin digital av adapter?

I have an iPhone 4 and I want to be able to mirror my device onto my Macbook Pro, without using the internet. So for example if I was not in a location that had internet, I would still be able to do so. I purchased the 30-pin Digital AV Adapter online only to test it and not get anything on my screen but have iTunes open. Is this because I have an iPhone 4, would this accessory with with an iPhone 4S, or get the lightning adapater to work with the iPhone 5. Does anyone else know of other options that do not involve using internet.

I use the 30 Pin Av Adapter from Apple, and it works on my iPad 2 running iOS 6.1.3. So not sure what those reviews would be talking about.
Just to be sure there's no confusion: there's a difference between the 30 Pin Digital AV Adapter
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD098ZM/A/apple-digital-av-adapter
And the 30 Pin to Lightning Adapter
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD823ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter
The 30 pin to Lightning in fact does not support Video output, but if you have a newer iPad. (4 or a Mini) you can use a Lightning Digital Av Adapter
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD826ZM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter
For older iPads the 30 Pin Digital Av Adapter works just fine, in all iOS versions I've tried it on.  In fact I can use it on a first generation iPad running iOS 4.3.3 to view movies from the Videos App just fine.
All of these will require an HDMi cable and a TV with an HDMI input.  Most recent TV's have this.
The Apple TV will connect to an iPad wirelessly, but is also double the price of the adapters, and still requires the HDMI cable and port on the TV to connect to.
I'd suggest the adapter that fits your iPad over the Apple TV unless you really need to have the connection be wireless from the iPad to the Apple Tv box.
For Apps that don't have Video Output, the only eay to view the is to Mirror the iPads screen, and for that you need an iPad 2 or newer. As the First Generation iPad  cannot do this.

  • I bought a genuine apple digital av adapter and it only displays some videos from my iphone 4 to my tv

I Can not get my iphone 4 to play through my tv with a genuine apple digital av adapter on just one video site. Does the av adapter support many video formats or not?? Please help

Have you tried resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • From my iphone 4 will I be able to play games like Infinity Blade or even modern combat games through Apple Digital AV Adapter on my HDTV/HDMI LCD-television?

I have a question before buying it...From my iphone 4 will I be able to play games like Infinity Blade or even modern combat games through Apple Digital AV Adapter on my HDTV/HDMI LCD-television?
Will it support or i have to wait for iphone 5!!!

Having spotty luck with it... see my other post in the iphone discussions...
It does work, but only some of the time - it seems to need a kick in the *** though. Sometimes it links to the TV right away, some times it takes some switching between apps or videos in the camera roll, and now for some reason, it takes plugging my wife's phone in first and then swapping phones once her's is recognized and TV output connection made before mine will output signal to the TV.
And it seems to do video only with some apps and audio only with others, and then nothing with yet others. I guess I just expected it to work, given that we both have freshly updated iphones (4.3), good cables and 2 HD TV's to test with...

  • HT4108 I have an apple digital AV adapter model A1422.

It will play videos on my phone on my tv but it will not play YouTube or show my pics on the tv. What is the solution?

it depends on what you want to accomplish..... if you want to play content on ipad and have it be played on your home television you will need to have digital av adapter, but the draw back to that is that you are physically "tethered" to your television..... if you want to play content on ipad as well as what you have in itunes on your home television, and have the freedom to do it from anywhere in you home you will need the apple tv2.... i have the apple tv2 and absolutely love it. i can not only use airplay and play whatever i have on my ipad to my tv, but i can also play anything i have on itunes on my tv and it's all wireless.....to be honest with you the apple tv2 was one of the best investments of $100 i have ever made....so personally speaking i would take back the apple digital av adapter and keep the apple tv2.....

  • After iOS 8 update: "This accessory is not supported by this iPad" using Digital AV Adapter on iPad 2

After the update to iOS 8 on an iPad 2 I receive the error: "This accessory is not supported by this iPad" using a digital AV adapter. It works for about 20 seconds before I get the error. Same adapter worked with iOS 7.1, same adapter still works on my iPhone 4s with iOS 7.1.
Curious if anyone else has this issue. The adapter is not a genuine Apple adapter, so I think I'll just buy an official Apple adapter, but I'd love to hear if anyone else has upgraded to iOS 8 and can still use their digital AV adapter on iOS 8 with iPad 2, and what brand of adapter you have. Thanks!

Still not working. My adapter shows as an apple A1422. I can successfully plug it in to an iPad 2 with an older IOS but mine which is on 8.1.2, gives the error "This accessory is not supported by this iPad." I tried turning off the iPad and connecting it to the tv before turning it on. When it is turned on, it displays on the tv for a moment, then the message pops up and no picture is on the tv any longer. Clicking ok does not change the lack of a picture On the tv, but I can use the iPad as normal.
I've tried the adapter on a different iPad 2 that is not on IOS 8 and no message appears.
    Help, please!

  • Apple digital av adapter problem

I bought a apple digital av adapter for my ipad mini a week ago and it's been working fine until yesterday. I unplugged it and when I came back home and replugged the digital adapter back into my ipad mini it would give me "the cable or adapter is not certified or may not work reliably with this ipad"
(p.s. I'm not really sure if I'm writing this in the right place or not, sorry.)

    Hello Allecra,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are having trouble with a Digital AV Adapter. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.
About Apple Digital AV Adapters for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
    Troubleshooting
If you encounter an issue using the Apple Digital AV Adapter or VGA Adapter:
Disconnect and reconnect the adapter from the iOS device and display.
Connect directly to the TV, projector, or external display using a known-good VGA or HDMI cable.
Remove any VGA or HDMI extension cables or converters.
Note that accessories that convert a VGA or HDMI signal to other video formats (DVI, Composite, Component) are not supported.
Ensure that you are using the latest version of iOS. Some Apple Digital AV Adapters require iOS 5.1 or later.
When using an Apple Digital AV Adapter manufactured before early 2012 with iPad (3rd generation), you may see the "This accessory is not supported" alert. Dismissing the alert will allow you to use the adapter.
For optimal performance, you may need to adjust the video resolution or settings for your display. If your display offers an "auto detect" or "factory default" setting, you may be able to use these options to optimize video resolution and display.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,

  • Lightning Digital AV Adapter output 5.1 sound problem

    Dear all,
I tried search over web and could not find the actual answer for my issue with Lightning Digital AV Adapter
I bought Lightning Digital AV Adapter that wanted to output movie (with AC3, AAC track ) to my LCD TV via Yamaha Sound Bar YSP 2500.
