Digital av cord

I recently got a digital av cord to use with my IPad2, which I am still waiting for... Anyways... The cord say compatible with Iphone4 as well, but when I plug in into my TV and hook up with an HDMI cable, I am only getting sound on my tv, but no picture??? Any ideas??

The description of the adaptor specifically states "everything else that fills your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S screen" which seems to me clear enough: Apple does not claim the adaptor offers full mirroring for the iPhone 4, only iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.
There is a difference between mirroring everything and serving selected apps. The iPhone 4 can output video from certain specific apps, but does not support the full mirroring on on the iPhone 4, which, according to the product page, allows "slideshows and movies."

  • Sony BDV-E570 - Cannot get sound from TV to Sony system using Digital Optical Cord

I get beautiful audio out of this system in FM Tuner, BD/DVD, and Internet Radio - no buzz whatsoever. However... the only way that I can get ANY audio from the TV or Cable box to come out of the Sony system is with RCA cables (the old style Red / White). This produces a horrible buzz but at least the TV sound comes out. The manual gives three different options for streaming TV audio through your Home Theater System. I purchased an 8' Rocketfish digital optical cable at Best Buy. It doesn't work at all! No audio at all. It fits, but doesn't quite want to "stay in"; is this normal???
I have the Sony BDV-E570 system, Vizio 46" TV (purchased 6 months ago) and a Comcast Digital HD cable box. All three have the same optical outlet and this cable doesn't "stay" in any of them. Does this sound like an Optical Cord issue? I really don't want to take this system down and lug it back to the store.
    Thanks for any help!

    Go to Solution.

An optic cable should be able to fix the buzzing sound. If for some reason it isnt  staying in the back of the system, then there could possibly be a falty connection in terms of the optic cable input or connector. Otherwise, as long as you have the audio cable hooked up, no matter which route you choose to connect them, and have your tv's audio set to external speakers you should be all set. If this continues to not work, I'd try calling either Geek Squad/Home Theater specialist or call Sony's technical line and see if they have any other suggestions. I myself am a Best Buy Home Theater specialist and this is my initial reaction to the issue at hand.

  • I'd like a decorative chain from which to hang a small digital cam/corder

This is not about iPhoto, but it is about digital cameras and I can't think of a better place to make this comment:
I want a digital camera to be small and light so that it can always be carried in my purse.
Beyond that, however, I would love to have a necklace/chain on which to hang a small digital camera. If I know that I will be somewhere wanting to take photos, then I would hang my tiny camera from that chain and wear it like a necklace so that I don't have to go rustling around in my purse.
    ~L.

Ah, if only they did have necklaces meant to hold cameras. And if only the cameras had a little hole from which to be hung. But nay.

  • K8T Neo 2 - digital out (SPDIF) for audio possible?

    Hello,
I just upgraded from a K8T Neo, which sported an coaxial digital output, to the K8T Neo2. Unfortunately, I didn't look at the specifications before and assumed that  "5.1 digital sound" also implied an digital connector.
This isn't so. (BTW: I wonder how this 5.1 is meant?!?!?? There are only the three standard jacks for analog stereo i/o present....)
Is there any possibility to add an coaxial digital output to this board? I don't need any audio fancy, and no analog output, just the digital connection to listen to my music and to pass-through DVD sound.
    Thanx in advance.

OK here is a cheap option to get digital surround.
Here is what I have, it works great:
    http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=205&product=14257
I actually picked it up at walmart
It may seem odd because it's a regular headphone jack to plug your digital receiver into, but all you need is this cord: http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=16&product=253 in which you plug the mini-jack into your Audigy SE and the other end (white mono) into your digital receiver or speakers.
Or you can spend a couple more bucks to buy this accessory which will let you connect either an optical or digital coax cord: http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=16&product=1780
This is all assuming you have digital compatible speakers, of course

  • Apple TV (atv) no sound via optical or analog BUT sound through HDMI

    Hi all,
This is my first post into the forums. I spent some time searching for problems with Apple TV audio and as a result I think I already know the answer to my question, but would appreciate a second opinion.
My Apple TV is about 1.5 years old (no AppleCare) and has been working fine up until last week. I am using two audio connections:
    1) HDMI to the TV (with tiny speakers)
    2) digital optical out to the receiver (with bigger speakers... receiver has no HDMI input)
We've been watching videos (youtube, etc) through the TV speakers (over HDMI) for a while, because we we had to keep things very quiet in our apartment. Then one day we wanted to watch a movie, so we turned on the receiver... to the overwhelming sound of silence.
Rebooted repeatedly times, pulled the power cord out, let it cool off, etc etc. Tried a restart via the diagnostic menu... still no output over optical. I tried analog... no sound there, either. I swapped out RCA cables for the analog connections, tested it with a CD player so I know that the cables are good, and the ports on the receiver are good.
So after all that troubleshooting, audio works over HDMI, but not optical or analog.
Then I pulled out the digital optical cord and looked into the port. Sounds silly, but usually there's a red light on when the ATV is on, right? (or for any device with digital optical connections, for that matter). There was no light. I looked at the end of the optical cable, which was still hooked up to my receiver. The tip of the cable was definitely lit up.
So... my guess is that somewhere within the logic board, there's some sort of component failure on the optical/analog outputs. Has anyone had this happen to them?
    Now, regarding options:
I read one post in the forum that says the repair cost is approx 2/3 the cost of a new unit... ATV retails on the Apple web site for $229, which pegs the repair price at approx $151. Does that sound right to others? Having taken a look at the teardown guides, I'm sure this will be a "replace the logic board" repair, which will probably be one of the most expensive options.
    Thanks very much!

    Cubehead wrote:
I have the same exact setup as you. Fortunately for me, mine works well. I can't speak to the ATV replacement option, but I do have a suggestion. On my Denon receiver, I have to assign the optical input from the ATV to the receiver (it does not happen automatically).
Good advice...but I'd assumed they'd had it working successfully before.
This may sound simplistic, but just checking to see if you ever went through that process. Also, just curious to see if this setup ever worked for you. In reading your post, it sounds like this is the first time you had ever used your receiver with the ATV.

  • Logic Express on MBP 2.2 to Logic Pro or Wait? Track count? 720 RPM drive?

    Hey there,
Just a few easy questions, some of which I am sure have been asked but didn't find with search.
Wondering if I should upgrade to Logic Pro or wait until after Leapord? As their is some speculation the FCP is going to come out (NEW) and be very, VERY Apple like, not like iMovie, (he said, and saw), but nonetheless very VERY Apple like for FCP, so wondering how far Logic is. Also, how many times can you install LP?
Right now everything from Storm Drum FX EXtreme, EWQL SO, VLS, etc, are all on PC and I still don't use the PC that much and am hoping new LOGIC include a great drum machine.
II. Anyone know what track counts you can expect with off the shelf MBP 2.2 and plug ins? (Soft Synths)?
III. Has anyone upgrade their HD to 7200? If so, more or less batter life? Any real world difference besides boot up time in AUDIO work advantages?
    Thanks

Now see, this is what I was afraid of. (LOL), I have built PC's for a long time and was always under the impression having a 7200 RPM System drive is fine and these days so fast with eSata that on a MBP 2.2 (which is what I have - someone asked what I was using, or did they mean software), that is should be plenty fast enough, just wondering though for samples, BFD, DrumCore, VSL, etc if those should go on a firewire.
I also use Absysnth (if this is what you mean (other poster), Nuendo, FC Express, SX3, Logic E, Reason, ......
    Two scenarios:
Music=Mine, Drum machine, really like the Addictive (also have and Drumcore) as well as have Groove Agent, Storm Drum, (No storm drum yet or FX Extreme for Intel, let alone EWQLSO?), bass, guitar, vocals.
    Scenario II. Scoring Trailers:
Soft Synth, Samplers (EWQL/VSL), Reason, Absynth.
Most of the time I could do this on a old system equal to first duo on PC on the system disc, although I had 4 HD's. The Firewire is Mackie 400F, which also has a firewire, (extra) that I have plugged a digital cam cord AND up popped iDVD, iMovie, also have FCP.
But it's interesting that the two responses I got one said much better performance, the other not.
So, are we using in the new 2.2 (LED) eSata)? Is the a 32 slot for the MBP for eSata HD? Isn't this supposed to be the fastest?

  • Audigy 4 Pro, what cable

Hello, I just purchased your Audigy 4 Pro, I have the Logitech z-5500 5. digital speakers, it has inputs for Optical,Coaxial, as well as 6 channel direct I have an RCA Digital Coaxial cord and a Monster Optical cord, please tell me what cords I need to have digital sound

    Sir_Dude,
Yes, the 6 channel direct inputs are analog as far as the output on the sound card goes, but then again so is the sound that comes out of your speakers when you use a digital cable like an optical or coax. Basically you are deciding where you want the conversion from analog to digital to take place, at the sound card or at the speakers. It is most likely that the converters in the sound card are of a higher quality than those on the speakers (this is where the 3dB SNR 24-bit/92 Khz DACs come into play). If you decide that you want to use an optical or coax digital connection there are some limitations you should be aware of:
You are limiting the number of sources that you will get surround in. With a coax or optical connection you will receive surround sound in DVD's and other AC3 encoded signals. Games that use Direct Sound will output in stereo.</LI>
You are removing the ability to playback DVD-Audio disks.</LI>
    You will lose CMSS ability.</LI>
If you read the articles in the FAQ at the top of the board they will explain why this is the case and why it is better to use the analog outs on the card for your primary output.

  • Static when connecting to hifi via headphone socket.

When I connect my Macbook Pro to a hifi with a phono to 3.5 cable via the headphone socket, I get a horrible hissing.
This only happens when my Macbook is plugged in, and it is even louder than the sounds it should be producing. Like if I'm playing a song in iTunes at full volume, and then connect it to the hifi, the hissing would be several times louder than the music playing.
It doesn't happen when I unplug the power adaptor.
I have tried it with numerous 3.5-phono cables with the same outcome, and I've used various other sources instead of the macbook such as iPod/cd players and they all play fine.
Anyone know what can be done about this?
I have PC speakers which work fine with it.
Also recently my headphone socket seems a lot more...delicate (I haven't slept in a while and can't think of the word - sorry).
Basically when I first got my mbp it was fine, but now if whatever is being plugged into the socket is nudged slightly, it will cut out temporarily. This happens regardless of what is being plugged in.
    Thanks

I also have a macbook pro and an Apple Hi Fi. For one thing, you have to baby the Hi Fi, they can be pretty finicky and delicate and it doesn't take much for them to malfunction which I believe is part of the reason that Apple discontinued them. I also use a 3.5mm jack- 3.5mm jack to connect my macbook pro to my hifi and have no issues. Now what it sounds like is going on is that the issue is on the Macbook Pro side of things. How old is your MBP? Is there any light emitting from the audio jack on the laptop, as that can be an indicator of trouble. I get that hissing sound too so I'm pretty sure I know what yours is caused by. Basically, when a 3.5mm audio cord is plugged into the Hi Fi on one end but not properly into something at the other end, and the unplugged (or partially plugged) cord touches something else conductive/metal it will hiss really loudly. This should only occur when the Hi Fi's volume is turned up. Have you checked any other devices (output) like another speaker if possible to see if your mac's audio out port (the one with the headphone icon on it) is broken or malfunctioning. I am using a Belkin 3.5mm-3.5mm audio cord and it works well. So I'm guessing the issue is your audio-out but if all else fails it is possible to connect a macbook pro to a Hi Fi with a Toslink fiber optic cord. I don't know why this would fix the problem but if you truly have no issues with any other input to the hi fi and you have tried multiple audio cords (when audio cords get worn in my experience they will cause problems too, but that problem would likely present as getting single-channel audio interference (which would sound like listening to an ipod with headphone) then maybe a digital audio cord is the way to go. On top of that, a digital audio cord would dramatically improve the volume and sound quality (its roughly the difference in sound between listening to music on a docked ipod vs. plugging an ipod in via the audio out auxiliary jack). But, I would say your likeliest problem is the connection between the audio cord and the audio out port on the macbook pro. Hope this all helps!

  • Transferring VHS to DV

After trawling the forums I cannot seem to find exactly the answer I require so am starting a new post - aoplogies.
I have a Canon mv450i Digital Cam corder with firewire DVin/out and according to spec an analog in/out jack.
I normally use this jack to 3xRCA to output to TV.
It does say IN/Out on the socket.
However, when I put the camera to Camera mode and run the rca plugs from the outputon my DVD player to the jack, what resulted was still seeing the camera's input from the lens, and a mixedsignal on the TV ! Basically a disturbing merge of the DVD playing and whatever the camcorder was viewing.
I then tried to use a scart to RCA converter to run from the VHS machine as this is what I want to record from but still no input.
Can anyone help. I have lost my manual and the Canon site doesn't even list the product in ARCHIVES!
I just want to transfer some old VHS footage I shot at college to DV for IMovie.

    Peter
Unsure if this will help, but it may give you some insight.
When I want to copy video from my Vhs so that I can place it on my computer this is what i do
    I have a Sony dcr-trv520 camera
I plug in the RCA cable to the camera (3 mm /5mm pin ?) then the yellow cable to the video out of the VCR
and the red and white cables to the same ports on the VCR
I then place my camera into VTR mode (so I could watch/record a tape. For you it may be different, but the play, stop, FF buttons become active.), I then switch the VCR to line2, press play on the VCR, then I press the record button on my camera. you should see the video from the VCR recording in your view finder screen.
after capturing the desire video, i just plug in my firewire to the camera and to the Mac, capture the footage from the camera, and yep I have some footage from my VCR.
    Hopes this helps.

  • Recording Video

I upgraded to QT 7 pro and I have my sony digital cam corder plugged into my firewire port and I am not seeing the recording ability under preferences of QT or under file/record video. Video is just not showing up. Just new Audio recording. I have other video recording software on my PC and they all work fine.

Bruce, I'd suggest you take this issue up in the iMovie or QuickTime for Mac forum. You'll be more likely to get help on one of those two places.
Note that Sony Handycams are not all the same. Only the MiniDV Sony camcorders work smoothly with Macs. Digital DVD might work with some effort (I don't know for sure), but the MicroMV units work only with Sony's proprietary Windows-only software. But try asking in one of those Mac-oriented formats (search them first for "Sony) and you'll probably get a definitive answer.

  • Ext hd question

I need a external hard drive to go with my mini, my question is what do I buy a networked one or plain.
My set up is 1 mac mini and soon a ps3 for my son (and me) both will be hooked up to a router/hub (wired), my goal for the external is to store home movies for viewing on the mini as well as be available for the ps3 to view on my tv so if a ps3 is on the same router as the mac will it see the external hard drive connected to the mini, or should i get a ext hd that has an ethernet connection and if so wouldnt that be slower than firewire.
Also the mini has 1 firewire connecton so if I get a ext hd with firewire how will i connect my digital cam corder?

Also the mini has 1 firewire connecton so if I get a ext hd with firewire how will i connect my digital cam corder?
Many external firewire-connected drives will allow a camcorder to be daisy-chained. However, if it doesn't, you can always simply add a firewire hub, which would allow you to share the FW port on the system with multiple FW devices in the same way that a USB hub will do for USB devices.

  • NetStream.bytesTotal is much smaller than the video

I have a video player running online, which sends error messages when the player loops on movie complete.
I am listening to the NetStatusEvent NetStream.Play.Stop to know that the video has completed playing.
I have a video which is more than 2,000,000 bytes, and the NetStream.bytesTotal in the error range between 2,000 and 5,000 bytes.
It looks like the users with this error are using Flash Player 11.1 and Windows 7.

Well, it does not fit the port.  When I had the TV installed, the guy told me I would need HDMI later, and he installed it connected and it has been hanging there unused.
The cord says HDMI on it and it looks like this:

  • Help! Suddenly no sound from home theater speakers!

I bought a Sony KDL 46W5100 TV and the BDVE300 Home theater system at BB. I have always had these two hooked up directly to
each other with an HDMI cable and the digital optical cord. There are no other components involved.
We have always had surround sound to the HT speakers when the television speakers are set to 'audio system'
II am in NO WAY an audio/video expert, but I've had to mess with the settings here and there
after one of the kids reset something and I've always been
able to return the system to proper operation.
I am not sure what happened this time, but I cannot get the home theater speakers to give me any sound when in TV mode or
the BD/DVD mode. Theater mode does nothing for the sound either. I know the speakers are connected properly as they work during the 'test' and also when using the FM radio. I also know I am not on 'mute'
I do get video when playing a DVD or blu ray but no sound. I borrowed a BVD E770W, hooked it up and ended up with the same result.
This would lead me to believe that I have some rogue setting in my TV or maybe my HDMI cable is bad? I'm not sure about the
cable as I still have video through it.
I've re-read all my manuals, searched the forums online and I found nothing
Can anyone give me some advice here?
My family would greatly apperciate it

Try unplugging the power cord to TV and Surround receiver for 15-20 minutes. Plug back in and retry. If test tone & tuner have sound, your receiver is working. This will reset your data lines and hopefully restore operation. If not, and the DVD & TV sound hookup is coming thru the TV, the firmware in the TV may need to be updated found here:

  • Audio Set Up for Apple TV

I have an apple tv and a time warner cable box both hooked up for video through an hdmi splitter and the picture is fine - that is to say i can switch between the two. however when switching between the audio between the apple tv and my cable i always need to go into my stereo receiver and change the audio cords. my receiver is 5.1 capable, but does not have an hdmi out. i have apple tv hooked up through the optical audio cord and my cable hooked up through the digital audio cord. though i am capable of switching the picture the sound defaults to the last device that was using it and the only way to change it is to pull the cord that isn't being used. is there a way to have both my cable and apple tv running in 5.1 sound without having to go through the steps of removing a cord everytime i switch between the two?
    thanks!

I'm having some trouble understanding your exact setup, but here's what works for me. Hope it helps.
My cable box has a digital audio out which is connected to one input on my AV receiver (which like yours has no HDMI input or output). My TV's optical audio out is connected to another input on the receiver. HDMI is not involved (except to carry the video from my cable box to my TV and from the TV to the TV).
To change from cable to TV, I switch inputs on my AV receiver using its remote (actually Harmony universal).
