Digital books for TX

I would like to use digital books (either pdf oe MP3) that are available from the public library on my TX. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Post relates to: Palm TX

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Support Community.
It depends on the format of the books, and whether they are "protected".  Protected MP3 files should be playable with the paid upgrade version of Pocket Tunes ( www.pocket-tunes.com ).
As for pdf files, you'll probably only be able to access unprotected pdf files, using either PalmPDF or a relatively current version of Documents To Go.  I don't think library-available pdf books are unprotected...i.e. they probably won't work for you.

  • I can not open my download from cafescribe which is a digital book for school.

I am taking an online class and it required a digital text book from Cafescribe. The class started last monday and their IT people are telling me that Mozilla is the problem. I don't usually have a problem opening downloads..HELP

I'm not familiar with that service. Can you test it in Firefox's Safe Mode? This temporarily disables your add-ons, so it's a useful way to quickly learn whether one of your add-ons might be the problem.
I recommend first making a backup of your Firefox settings just in case something goes wrong. Easiest to just copy your whole profile folder to another location on your C drive. To locate that folder, see: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles Profiles].
And here's the article on Firefox's
[http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode]. Be careful not to "reset" anything permanently if you didn't back up.
Does that allow the site to work?

  • InDesign CS4 crashes during "Export Book for Digital Editions"

InDesign CS4 crashes each time I select "Export Book for Digital Editions." I tried deleting my preferences and then creating books that contain only two very simple INDD documents, but I still get this error:
    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\InDesign.exe
    R6025
    - pure virtual function call
I can export books as EPUB files without problems on my personal laptop, which has InDesign CS5. But we're using CS4 at the office. Any ideas?
I'm running InDesign CS4 version 6.0.6 on Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 3, HP Compaq desktop, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU.

google r6025 runtime error and you'll see a lot of advice for tracking down and correcting the problem.

  • Crop Ratio Camera Raw / Scott Kelby Book for Digital Photographers

From the Book of Scot Kelby regarding the Camera Raw usage.
    - The Adobe® Photoshop® CS5 Book for Digital Photographers
Chapter 2. WWF Raw: The Essentials of Camera Raw > Cropping and Straightening
If you reopen your cropped photo again in Camera Raw, you’ll see the cropped version. To bring back the cropping border, just click on the Crop tool. To remove the cropping altogether, press the Esc or Delete (PC: Backspace) key on your keyboard (or choose Clear Crop from the Crop tool’s pop-up menu). If you want your photo cropped to an exact size (like 8×10″, 13×19″, etc.), choose Custom from the Crop tool’s pop-up menu to bring up the dialog you see here. You can choose to crop by inches, pixels, or centimeters.
In this topic Scott Kelby is explaining Crop Ratio for ACR 7.x
In this version there is the possibility for Crop Ratio to Inches, CM and Pixels. However with the Newer version this option is no longer available.
Hopefully this will safe some of you the time looking for this.

Precisely what Conrad Chavez says: a very good change.

  • Export book for digital editions crashes In Design

When I create a book file and then select "Export Book for Digital Editions…" InDesign always crashes.
But when I create a single InDesign file and select "Export for Digital Editions…" (from the File) menu everything works OK.
InDesign does create an epub file from the book file but it obviously shouldn't crash and can I be sure that everything is OK with the epub file?
I've manually deleted InDesign preferences - selected different options in the "Export Book" dialog - logging in as a different user - but still getting the same result…
    has anyone got a suggestion ? -

  • Time Machine backup very slow on WD My Book For Mac external HD

I have been using a Western Digital 1 TB external HD (My Book For Mac) to backup my data today for the first time, using their SmartWare software. Everything went smoothly, I backed up 91 GB of data in 2-3 hours.
At the same time, I have also Time Machine activated, which started backing up my files a while ago, but it is crawling at 8 MB per minute. A quick calculation tells me it will take 180 hours to back up 90 GB (?).
    I have 2 questions:
    1. Are SmartWare and TimeMachine supposed to be run exclusive of each other?
    2. If I just ran TimeMachine, why is it so slow? I use a USB 2.0 connection that worked fine for the My Book's own software.
    Thanks for your help!

You should first repartition and format the drive. Most likely it is setup for use on Windows. Try this:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Do not use the WD software. If it's you wish to create a bootable backup of your drive as well as keep a TM backup, then you should create two partitions on the drive. One for your non-TM backup and one for TM. For the bootable backup use third-party software such as SuperDuper!, Carbon Copy Cloner, or SilverKeeper - Download at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Note that many WD drive systems cannot be used for bootable backups. You can find information related to this at the WD web site.

  • How to make hard cover paper book from iBooks author digital book

Someone suggested I make a few hard cover books from my iBooks Author published digital book. How would you go about doing this?
What file should I should I use, (PDF, etc)? What printer would do this best (iPhoto publishing, etc)?
Hoping it will be easy to use the format of iBooks Author so that I won't have to make changes.
    Many thanks for your help.

You can print directly from iBA or you can generate a PDF from the print menu and use that. Be sure to test layouts, orientation, etc. Of course certain content won't be output to a printer.
There are hundreds of printers to choose from - shop your budget.

  • How do i retrieve my digital booklets for albums?

When I copied my iTunes Library from my PC to my Mac Book Pro (Maverick), I lost all of the digital booklets for my albums purchased from the iTunes store in the past. Anyone know if I can get them back? Are they possibly hidden somewhere else on a Mac?

I have no personal experience with this, but I suggest looking in the Mac's iBooks app.

  • If I buy a digital book in  EPUB size from a web site, how I may read it on my IPad? Specify that I didn't buy it from Apple Store.

If I buy a digital book in  EPUB size from a web site, how I may read it on my IPad? Specify that I didn't buy it from Apple Store.

First, epub has nothing to do with size, it is a file format that is popularly used for ebooks, but ebooks published in epub file formats vary greatly in file size.
It will depend on where you buy it.  Many books are DRM locked (Digital Rights Management, a software lock).  If so, in order to load it into another companies reader or reader software, you need to use something like Adobe Digital Editions to "authorize" the book on the device.  Apple's iBook software does not work with ADE.
If the book was DRM free, you should be able to read it in any ereader or ereader program that supports epub format.
If the book is DRM locked to B&N, Amazon, Kobo or whichever seller you shopped from, then the simples thing is to download their free app for the iPad (they all make one, in fact they all make free apps for iPad, Android, Mac OS X and Windows).
So the short answer is yes, you should be able to read any epub ebook file on an iPad, although not necessarily in iBook.
    So, books from
Amazon - get the Kindle reader app
B&N - get the Nook reader app
Kobo - get the Kobo reader app
non-DRM epubs can be read in iBook, Nook, Kobo, or Google Play

  • Need to delete corrupt digital book from icloud

Hi have a corrupt digital book sent to my device from Amazon
Before they can resend a valid copy I need to delete original corrupt copy from ICloud.
I do not know how to do this so can anyone help?

If you cannot get this information from the seller
Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
You need to return the Device for a refund, as you will not be able to re-activate it.

  • How to reset the Reader Digital Book.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are two different types of reset procedures you can do on your Reader Digital Book - soft and hard.
    Soft Reset
IMPORTANT: A soft reset can be performed anytime and will resolve most issues.
Locate the reset button access hole. It is labeled RESET and, depending on your model, can be found on the back or bottom of your Reader device.
PRS 500 NOTE: On the PRS-500 model, you must remove the soft cover to locate the rest button access hole.
Using a thin object such as a paper clip or stylus (included with touch models), press the RESET button.
The screen will not change after pressing the RESET button. You must now slide the POWER switch or press the POWER button (PRST1 only) to turn on the Reader device again.
    Hard Reset
WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. After doing a hard reset, you will need to restore your content. Your purchased books can be restored from your account at the Reader store.
    IMPORTANT:
You should only do a hard reset if necessary and as the last step for troubleshooting.
After you do a hard reset, your Reader device will need to be authorized again from your Reader store account.

  • Digital projector for presentations?

need advice for best digital projector for presentations compatible with Power Book G4

I have plugged my G4 Powerbook TI into two different projection systems, one at a Chevron facility and another at the Las Vegas Convention center. Absolutely NO problems what-so-ever! These things are designed to work with the same projectors/displays as almost anything out there, especially Apple Powerbooks.
I did just get a deal from Office Depot ($899) for a Sharp XR-11C that has 1024x768 resolution with 2,000 Lumens! OH, and it is HD ready as well! Yes, you can use it for presentations as well as hooking it up to the cable box for the Super Bowl and the Final Four! LOL! My sales manager used on her pc notebook and it was simply awesome. Super crisp, great color rendition, fairly easy to use and it came with pretty much all the cables you will ever need. YOu did keep your RGA/DVI adapter, right? You will need that more then likely. I hope this helps!

  • Resolution/other  questions in creating books for large books

thinking of getting my first book hard and large 100 pages.
does that mean i have the capacity for atleast 200 photos ( cover back of a page )?
i use 300dpi very high file size images ( 28-60mb) that are not stored on iphoto. I used to make 250-500k jpgs for iphotos so that it would work fast smooth and easy.
If i load my image files into iphoto with the desire to create the largest book, what is the recommended resolution and file size to make the images look their best in the book. I dont understand this whole process because when my images are printed and published in books or magz the requirement is atleast 17.2 MB or higher.
what is the usual file size and resolution that people use in their images to toss into these templates?
    thanks
    gl

    gl:
If you select double sided printing you can have 200 full page photos in the book. More if you use other layouts.
You want to use the largest pixel sized file you have. For a one photo per page layout, full page, you'd want a pixel dimension of 2250 x 3300. That would be equivalent to an 8.5 x 11 inch at 300 dpi. 300 is what the books are printed at.
The frames (picture window) used in the books are sized at a 4:3 ratio. To get your photo to perfectly fill the frame without any cropping, crop your images to 4:3 before putting the in book.
If your photos are a different ratio, they can be used, but some will be cropped from the top and bottom when placed in a frame. You can opt to have the entire image show in the frame but there will be some white space in there also.
My first large book was produced with a camera that gave me images at 1600 x 1200 pixels. Since I didn't have any one photo per page layouts I didn't get any low resolution warning.
The following is a reply I got from Apple regarding book materials and printing quality:
"Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.
I understand that you would like to know the printing process that is used and the color mode the files should be in, so you can better advise users in the iPhoto forum.
iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with RGB color space are recommended for best results.
While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.

Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
    BOOKS
All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
    Hardcovers Books
The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
    Softcover Books
The softcover books come in three sizes:
    - Large 8.5 x 11 inches
    - Medium 6 x 8 inches
    - Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
    CARDS
All cards are printed on McCoy 120# Silk Cover paper stock. The postcards measure 4 x 6 inches, and the greeting cards measure 5 x 7inches.
    CALENDARS
All calendars measure 8 x 10 inches and are printed on McCoy 100# Silk Cover paper stock.
To ensure the best print quality, we have chosen to use Kodak NexPress technology. The press uses a dry toner, which is fused to the surface of the paper. Please see NexPress' site for more information:
KODAK NEXPRESS 2500 Digital Production Color Press
I hope you find this information helpful in answering questions on the iPhoto forum."
As for file size, iPhoto creates a pdf file of the book for uploading and printing. You can preview the file by creating the pdf file yourself. Just Contol-click on a page but not a photo in the book mode and select the Save Book as PDF option.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do I create a digital book that fits tablets and computer monitor sizes?

How do I create a digital book that fits tablets and computer monitor sizes?
Example: An 8.5 X 11, 2 column Word document with pictures, approximately 100 pages.
Must I also publish the book in a 5X8 format or does Acrobat have something that will do that for me?

    Starting at the end:
    - When the movie or tv show does transfer onto your iphone/ipod touch you will be able to see it in the expanded view of your device in the "DEVICES" section.
    - If the files are not on your device, then:
-- confirm you have SD or HD-SD video. HD-only content will not play and probably will not even sync. iTunes seems to reliably have SD versions with their HD distributions so this should not be an issue
-- confirm you are synch-ing the content to the ipod device by browsing the DEVICE view's Movie or TV Show tabs to confirm the movie or episode is 'checked'
    - If the files are on the iPod and you cannot find them, check your Settings: General for Restrictions.  If you restrict, for example the movies to "G" rating. PG and higher movies will sync but you will not be able to find them on the iPod!
