Digital camera and MBP

I just bought a new Canon Powershot S3 IS digital camera.
I haven't used it yet, just opened the box.
It comes with a CD, "Digital Camera Solutions" that they say
you need to install in order to be able to download pictures from camera to the computer.
My question is this: do I really need this program?
Or can iPhoto take care of downloading my pictures?
I don't really want to install something that I don't need.
Thanks!

  • Can you take photos on digital camera and see them appear on the ipad using the camera connector

    Can you take photos on digital camera and see them appear on the ipad - i have a canon 400d and the new ipad.......

    The camera connection kit accepts only SD camera memory cards.
    Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
    Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
    Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

    Is it a slow motion video? iPhoto does not understand the slow motion tags created by some cameras, eg.g. the iPhone back camera.

    or the lightening to USB for your videos

    (might also work for your camera)
    The photo part is rather self-explanatory. as long as your photos are in the right format and with the right naming convention they should import right over. The video may be a bit more tricky. So you may want to do some more research and make sure your camera records a format the iPad will import and whether or not you need an app such as iMovie

  • Digital Camera and Encryption

    Hi,
    We are using ESM 4.1. I have a policy for most staff that has Storage Removable Storage set to Read-Only (Data Encryption off) and another policy for management with Allow All Access for Removable Storage and Data Encryption on. This seems to be working very well...... however
    I have just had a request a from manager who wants to take pictures from a digital camera and download them to her computer. This is usually done by staff so read-only setting is fine. However as a manager with Data Encrypion set to on, ESM wants to encypt the camera which isn't going to work. Is there a way around this?

    Unfortunately the RSD encryption encrypts ALL storage devices when it is turned on. Product management is looking into adding a feature enhancement to provide greater control of what devices get encrypted but its not a current feature.

    No.
    iTunes manages all the content that is put on the Touch.
    Furthermore all video must be compatible inorder for it to be playable on any iPod. Do you even know what format your camera or camcorder saves video in?
    You need to get into the habit of reading the specs sheets for things you buy.

  • Ipod seen as a digital camera, and won't be recognized by Itunes.

    Have: Ipod 2nd Generation (2.2.1), Windows Vista, Itunes Ver. 8.1
    Problem: Alright here it is, my Ipod and my sister's is not being recognized by Itunes. It is however recognized by my computer as a digital camera. If I shutdown my computer and then plug in my Ipod while its off into the computer while its turning on its recognized. However, it won't sync saying "the ipod cannot be synced. the disk could not be read from or written to." Now it trys to sync but my Ipod doesn't have syncing on the screen. My Ipod though will be recognized by other computers.
    Things I tried: All the steps on the apple page, please don't link me to the instructions again. I have uninstalled and installed Itunes soo mny times. Tried restoring it also, but couldn't finish the restore on my computer and had to use another one. Also I have tried plugging it in and out, using differant usb ports, pretty much everything with no success.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    I know it is your first post so I'll offer a gentle reminder to start new problems as new posts and not hijack an existing thread. Your problem is different than the OP.
    In your case, you need to disable the automatic camera notification. The help article how to that is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1857
    The crashing part can be caused by an obsolete/incompatible driver on your PC. You will have to figure out how to update it so it doesn't crash or remove it entirely.

  • My iTouch is being recognized as a digital camera and cant take out my music from it.

    i have an iphone and an ITouch and also a Ipod nano and and i just got a brand new computer cause my old 1 died. i still have music in my ipod iTouch and iPhone. i want to fill my new laptop with music. but since my iTouch and iPhone are both being read as a digital camera i can only take out photos from both. witch right now i dont care about the photos. my iPod nano on the other hand is being read as a storage device meaning i can take out the music out of the nano. i want to make it so i can also take out my misic from my iTouch and iPhone. in need of assistance. tried a bunch of methods but im tired of it. im im going to need professional help.

    - It is normal and expected for the iPod to be seen as a camera
    - What do you mean " when I put it in hard disk mode"?  iPod touches do not have a disk mode.
    - Does the iPod show in iTunes?  If not try:
    iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

  • Digital Camera and my new iMAC 17inch

    Hey guys, whats up? Anywayz, i wanted to purchase a new digital camera but i really cant decide. I have an intel core duo iMac 17inch and i was thinking somewhere around the Canon or Nikon (Not the professional but the compact one). I was thinking more of the Canon SD630 but i am really worried about the compatibility with Mac OS X 10.4 (i have 10.4.6) and it says that Canon is conducting a compatibility test for mac os 10.4 and it for now its not comptible. So, any ideas or recommendations? Thanks.
    Cheers,
    Ash

    I worried about compatability when buying a video iPod with camera adapter. Neither my camera (Panasonic FZ20) or my daughters Konica-Minolta Dimage X20 were listed on Apple's list of suported devices, but both work fine for transferring photos to the iPod. My camera works just fine with OS X 10.4.7 (I haven't tried yet, since updating to 10.4.8 today.) Either Image Capture or iPhoto (depending on which I have chosen to do so) will automatically recognize the camera and allow me to get the photos onto my Mac. These are fairly obscure camera models so I wouldn't worry too much about a more modern mainstream model. On the iPod compatabilty chart it listed one of the following as requirements. If your camera supports either of these you may be safe:
    PTP
    Type 4 (or Normal)
    Mass Storage

  • Digital camera and LabVIEW

    Has anyone ever controlled a canon digital camera from LabVIEW?  I am using a Canon EOS Kiss REBEL 300D.
    I tried using the software from the following link (http://www.hytekautomation.com/Downloads.html)  , but the "take a picture" button was disabled.
    I did download the SDK from canon but am not sure if LabVIEW can handle some of the data types to pass to the DLLs.
    Here is one example of a function
    cdCAPI RCOpenSource ( cdSourceInfo* pSourceInfo, cdHSource* pSource )
    where cdSourceInfo is defined as:
    typedef struct{
    cdSourceType SurceType; // Type of the device
    cdUInt32 rsrvd; // Reserved
    cdStr63 Name; // Device model name
    //(Invalid if cdSRC_TYPE_HOST)
    #ifndef macintosh
    cdStr63 NameInOS; // Device model name in OS
    #endif
    cdPortType PortType; // Port type
    cdPortDescripUnion u; // Union of I/O port descriptor
    } cdSourceInfo;
    Thanks for any help.

    If you use Windows, easiest way to access external code is .NET
    interface. Is there a .NET interface for the Canon camera? If there is,
    use it.
    If there is no .NET interface and you have problems calling the SDK DLL directly,
    It's quite easy to write a .NET interface (wrapper) for C++ code (if
    the SDK is written according to C++ standards and works with Visual Studio .NET). Check MSDN to find out how to write managed extension (.NET wrappers) on existing C++ code. There is a simple example
    of such a wrapper for an existing C++ class. If you have existing C++
    methods, just write a class that has similar methods that upon call
    call these SDK methods.
    After having written the wrapper, build it (having the managed
    extension turned on!) and you can access the class from .NET interface
    of labview directly. If the data types cause problems, you can try to
    transform the data types in the wrapper methods.
    Something like the following may work:
    # include "SDK_includes_here.h"
    # include "SDK_includes_here.h"
    # include "SDK_includes_here.h"
    // You need a class for your method.
    // If you have many methods, you can add them to the same class
    __gc class CanonClass
    public:
    // constructor
    CanonClass() { }
    // destructor
    ~CanonClass() { }
    // method
    cdCAPI MyMethod( cdSourceInfo* pSourceInfo, cdHSource* pSource )
    return RCOpenSource ( cdSourceInfo* pSourceInfo, cdHSource* pSource );

  • Best digital camera and camcorder...

    What are some good budget digital camcorders and a digital camera for the MacBook? My wife and I are expecting our first child in December and we're both in college (I have a degree in visual communications, and I'm going back for computer programming), and she's going for nursing.
    We're kind of tight on money fixing up our house and getting things ready for the baby, and I've got 'proud parent disease' where I wanna take pictures and video tape EVERYTHING all the time.
    Any suggestions?

    My suggestion is to not cheap out on a digital camera (no experience with camcorders). It may save you money up front but the quality of the product may come back to bite you (much like getting a Windows PC versus a Mac ).
    I use this review site: http://www.steves-digicams.com/
    I'm not an expert, but among my circle of very amateur photography friends Canon is considered to have the best quality lenses and image processors. I myself went with a Canon PowerShot A540, a 6-megapixel consumer model, and it's been great. The A-series filled all of my requirements--took AA-type batteries instead of expensive proprietary ones, had features that the super-compact line didn't, including good basic video recording (for quick clips), and it wasn't as bulky as an SLR or "prosumer" model. My brother and another friend got the A540's less expensive sister, the A530; the only reasons I didn't go with that was the smaller screen and the video recording wasn't as good.
    I'd avoid Kodak and HP branded cameras, as well as any generic brands. Most everyone else should be decent too, including Sony, Fuji, Olympus, etc.

  • Kodak digital camera and iphoto

    Hello
    I have a Kodak digital camera. When I connect it to my imac (osx 10.3 ilife 05) I photo comes up
    Asks me if I want to import, and everything works fine except it never mounts on the desktop. I want to dome editing , copy back to the camera and then print photos on the Kodak printer.
    Thanks fred

    I have that same camera but iPhoto was able to recognize it after downloading the firmware and Kodak EasyShare update. Does the computer recognize your camera at all, through another program like Image Capture? If so, then you might just need to go to iPhoto's preferences and check off the box about opening iPhoto (or any image application you prefer, like Photoshop) when the camera's plugged in. Good luck!
    I seem to have the opposite problem on my system-- iPhoto now thinks my camera is always connected, even when it's unplugged and sitting in my bag.

  • Nikon wireless digital camera and AirPort Express

    Please help...
    My Nikon Digital Camera Coolpix S7c cannot find my AirPort Express SSID. It finds all the routers around.(Linksys, Belkin, ETC)... I have called Nikon and Apple and nobody can figure it out. Please help. Many thanks.

    Your Nikon wireless supports WEP, WPA & WPA2. I suggest trying the following configurations on your base station to see which will work with this camera. I ordered them in most preferred to least ... security-wise:
    o Radio Mode: 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) / Encryption: WPA2 Personal
    o Radio Mode: 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) / Encryption: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    o Radio Mode: 802.11b/g compatible (Note: You can access this mode by holding down the Option key when making your selection.) / Encryption: WPA2 Personal
    o Radio Mode: 802.11b/g compatible / Encryption: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    o Radio Mode: 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) / Encryption: WEP (Transitional Security Network)
    o Radio Mode: 802.11b/g compatible / Encryption: WEP 128 bit

  • Lego digital camera and iPhoto

    My seven year old son just got a Lego camera for his birthday. I plugged it into my Mac (10.6.4) and iPhoto '09 and the Lego camera doesn't show up.
    I don't see anything in the forums regarding the Lego camera and I don't see anything in Google about the Lego camera and iPhoto.
    Has anyone else gotten their 3MP Lego digital camera to work with iPhoto?

    My guess is that the camera is not Mac-compatible. A lot of inexpensive digital cameras use proprietary software to access the disks on the camera; the software is always PC-only. My daughter had a Disney camera that had the same issue. You might be able to get it to work using Parallels to run the PC software, otherwise you could use Boot Camp to put Windows on your Mac and then copy the pictures over.
