Digital camera compatibility with MAC OS9.x

Some of the new digicams claim to be compatible only with versions of OS 10.x. Does this imply that pics cannot be downloaded and read properly in OS9.x, if read from a camera card thru a [compatible] card reader? Assume it means the downloadable software that comes with the digicam is incompatible with OS9.x, but is that really important for downloading from a card reader, working with [Photoshop], printing etc? I know Canon's new digicams, for example, are not OS9.x compatible according to Canon, and I'm sure there are others.
I hesitate to go the new OS10.4 route as my logitech webcam is only compatible up to 9.2.1 and some versions of 10.2 and 10.3, I believe. Not sure about my Microtech i700 scanner compatibility either. I've still got 8-9GB space avail on my G4 cube, but know photos can sure eat that up fast.

James,
USB card reader (or PCMCIA card adapter for laptop users). Best things I ever, EVER bought.
Trying to get the pictures off the card whilst in the camera, is slow and eats camera batteries - I can't get all the pictures off a 1Gb or 4Gb card over the USB connection, whilst the card is in the camera, without the batteries running out (so I use PCMCIA for big cards).
Stick with OS9.2.1 if you want. You can also go fishing for OS9 compatible software on all the camera manufacturers websites, Kodak still supply OS8 & OS9 stuff - of course, the licence agreement says you have to have a Kodak camera to use the stuff. But check all manufacturers.
When in OS9 I still use their (Kodak) software - 8 years old now - even with my newest cameras (strangely, same with the battery charger, the 8yo Kodak charger is 10x better than the Olympus, Minolta and Nikon efforts I've picked up in that time).
Let us know if you find anything good.

  • Is the Canon Powershot S2 IS Digital Camera compatible with an ipod photo?

I'm going on a roadtrip to the northwest next month and was wondering if anyone knows whether the Canon Powershot S2 IS Digital Camera compatible with an ipod photo?

You cannot, with a PC or a Mac, transfer photos from a camera directly to the iPod. You need to download the images from the camera to your computer first, then move the pictures from the computer to the iPod.
Not quite sure about that - from the Apple Store (UK):
Simply plug the iPod Camera Connector into the iPod dock connector, plug your camera’s USB cable and watch your images make their way to the iPod, ready to view in a slide show!
Compatible with iPod with color display.
    Not compatible with iPod nano.
    Requires iPod software v1.1.
    See http://www.apple.com/ipod/compatibility/cameraconnector.html for supported cameras.

    yes
However, if your Mac has only Firewire 800 ports, you need an adapter such as one of the following to connect your FW400 external iSight:
    • This Firewire 400-800 cable can work:  http://store.apple.com/us/product/H7041ZM/A (I use this one.)
    • Some report that this low-priced alternative cable works:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812189097
    • To use your iSight's FW400 6pin-6pin cable, you can use a 6pin-9pin adapter like one of these:

  • Are ntfs files compatable with mac os lion

are ntfs files compatable with mac os lion

Files aren't ntfs or hfs or ufs or zfs.
Those are file systems that is the basis for how the OS stores the files on the computer. Files are store inside a file system, but the file system doesn't normally affect the file itself.
Mac OS X can natively read nt file systems. If you want to write, then you'll need something like Siddharth Khanna pointed out. I've also used Tuxera's product. You can use a combination of MacFuse and NTFS-3G for free, but if you need normal everyday access, that's going to fall short, I think.
On the other hand, Windows can't natively handle HFS+ at all. If you need to format an external drive to work with both, I'd suggest using exFAT. Mac OS X from 10.6.6 on can read and write it, and Windows back to some version of XP can read/write it. As the name implies, it is much like FAT, but on steroids. It can handle very large file sizes and disk sizes.

I am strictly an Elements Windows user but try to find common ground between Premiere Elements Windows and Mac to give a viable response to Premiere Elements Mac questions.
On this one, I suspect that the bottom line is going to be "try it" and see what happens in your specific computer environment.
Please review the discussion in the following thread
Re: Premiere Elements 10 crashes on disc templates
Also, you are in for major display problems with Premiere Elements 10 on a computer that uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card.
There the fix is to roll back the driver version to May 2013 in order to get Premiere Elements 10 to function properly.
Please review, consider, and then let us know the outcome when your schedule permits.
    Thank you.

  • Is "Sony Cybershot DSCT300 10.1MP Digital Camera" compatible with the Sony 40m Marine Pack?

Hello, Is Sony Cybershot DSCT300 10.1MP Digital Camera compatible with the Sony 40m Marine Pack? Thank you for your help.

    Hi squid10feetfish,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!
The 40 m marine pack, MPKTHF, is the casing that is exclusively made for this unit. Any other units of the marine pack can't be used with other camera models as they are made specifically to fit the dimensions of the respective compatible units.

  • Can't see video picture with digital camera connected to Mac.

    Hi,
I just bought a Sony DSC-S650 digital camera and shot a 1 minute video. When I plug it into my iMac intel Core 2 Duo it imports into iPhoto and when I got to play it I get sound perfectly but no picture. The digital camera shoots in .avi so when it shows up in Quicktime it is in .avi format. The Quicktime dialogue box comes up and says I am missing some things and directs me to this other page with all these XVid and different players on there. I've loaded a few of them but still no picture showing up. Is there a specific one I should try or any other ideas?
I'm having no problem importing regular photos into iphoto just the video part.
    Thanks,
    S.

    Spiralgirl
The difficulty with the avi format is that it's really a hold all for a wide range of codecs.
    Some things to try:
Have you checked with Sony for an updated driver for for Camera?
    Try install Perian
Make sure that your Quicktime is up-to-date - it's at 7.1.5 now.

  • Web Camera compatible with Mac mini

Could someone recommend a web camera that is compatible with the Mac mini. I bought a Dynex DX-DTCAM that said it works with Mac's but it doesn't. Any help is much appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You might find the (brief) thread at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1144969&tstart=0 of some interest in terms of webcam compatibility as a whole.
Not sure about the Dynex you have - it is certainly claimed to be MacOS X compatible, though not exactly which version(s) of MacOS X it works with. Assuming you've installed the drivers with the cam from the CD it came with, you might look at t http://www.dynexproducts.com/pc-459-10-dynex-desktop-web-camera.aspx to see if the Windows and Mac driver download on that page offers a later driver for Macs. The 'readme' file is dated June 2007 and it claims it's for MacOS 10.3 and later.

  • Digital camera compatibility

I hope this is an appropriate forum. I know I have seen, somewhere on Apple's site, a list of cameras that are Mac compatible. I have been searching and searching and can't find it. This website can be very frustrating at times. Can someone point me to this list? Thanks!!

Personally, I've used an Olympus digital camera for years on 3 different Macs without any problems at all.
Just make sure when you purchase the camera that you read the "minimum requirements" to be used on a Mac. LIke... Tiger or Leoaprd.

  • Bluetooth Digital Cameras - Brand new mac user

I am a brand new mac user and I want to buy a new digital camera, and I believe you can buy them w/bluetooth now. That way they sync with your computer instead of hard plugging them in. I know this is a totally dumb question. But I have only had my mac for two weeks. Do I have bluetooth on my system and how do I shop for a camera that would be compatible. Any help from all you apple users would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello jj:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I believe all Macs that are being delivered now have a built-in Bluetooth module (it used to be extra).
To be sure, go to the little blue apple and select about this mac from the drop down menu. Click on more info. The Bluetooth module will be listed if it is present (under hardware).
I have been digital for several years, but none of my cameras are BT capable. I am a big Kodak fan, but do not know if they have a BT camera (or if anyone does). I do not work for Kodak, but their "dock" technology makes it really easy to transfer pictures from a camera to a Mac. A big bonus. iPhoto is tightly integrated.

  • How do i get video from my sony hx100 digital camera to my mac? after connecting the camera via the supplied usb cable, iMovie shows icons for 5 videos, but none will load.

i've connected the camera to the mac using the supplied usb cable. imovie shows 5 icons for videos but all of them have the red circle with slash through them and the box to import them is grayed out.

Get a nice Sony miniDV camcorder. It is not too expensive; it is small and easy to carry around to shoot your video. Most importantly, it will be instantly compatible with iMovie. You don't have to install any software, just connect it via FireWire (Sony calls this iLink) and you are good to go!
I have had several Sonys and love them. You don't need one with fancy editing capabilities because you will edit your movies in iMovie. Just be sure that it has AV In and Out so you can import and export back to the camcorder.
My current version is the small DCR HC-26. There are newer versions of that HC-30something and 40something. Look at the specs on Sony's website
Some of them require the use of a dock to import and export. I am not really fond of that feature. I like just connecting directly to the camera.
