Digital camera/printer-scanner connection to iPhoto

I recently purchased an iMac with iPhoto 08. I have an HP R707 Photosmart digital camera that iPhoto won't recognize. I followed the instructions in the iPhoto tutorial but iPhoto will not recognize the camera as a source and, in fact, freezes up. I have to Force Quit the application. A friend suggested getting a card reader. I looked on the Apple site and the first thing that popped up was an HP Photosmart printer/scanner with media readers. Well, I already have one connected to the iMac. The HP Photosmart C4180 All-in-one. I open iPhoto and insert the digital medium in the HP slot and try to download to iPhoto, but the HP tells me I need some software. What software? Why won't my camera connect? I'd actually prefer to use the printer/scanner since you can do more with it. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You'll have to contact HP to see what software it requires. A card reader is, IMO, the optimal method of uploading from the camera to iPhoto as the method works with any camera that has a removable media card.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Sony dsc-wx150 digital camera doesn't connect in iPhoto

Just got a Sony DSC-WX-150 digital camera. Already have a Mac Mini, OS 10.7.xx latest updates, and iPhoto 11 with latest updates. When I connect the camera with the supplied usb cable and turn it on, iPhoto doesn't respond or show the mounted device. The Finder sees it and shows it in a window as a memory stick. Any idea why it doesn't show or what I can do about it? TIA

Thanks, Larry. Why couldn't that be in the Troubleshooting section or on Sony's web site? I'm sure I'm not the only one with a new memory card.

  • HT1338 printer scanner geberate no camera or scanner connected

My hp printer scanner generates a camera or scanner not connected error I tried to delete and then reload printer but nothing HELP

    Hello Maddog43,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities
It sounds like youre getting an error message saying no camera or scanner is connected when trying to use the printer.
First I would see if there are newer drivers available for the printer/scanner in question with this article:
Printer and scanner software available for download
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
Then, if needed, I would troubleshoot the print system on the computer.

  • VuPoint Solutions DC-M306AT-VP Digital Camera - Does it work with iPhoto

I'm looking for an inexpensive digital camera for my son. One option is the VuPoint Solutions DC-M306AT-VP 3.1MP fixed focus camera. I saw it at Ritz Camera. Its only $69.
Has anyone tried connecting this camera to iPhoto? It has built in memory (16MB) plus an SD slot. I'm guessing that even if the camera won't work with iPhoto, the SD card can be read in an external reader. Your experiences would be greatly appreciated.
    PowerMac G4 Dual 1.25GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   FW800, 4 internal HD - 870GB

    Keith,
Thanks for your reply. After going to their website http://www.vupointsolutions.com (which I didn't find earlier because Google searches inundate you with sellers rather than OEM links), I found some more clues. The FAQ for this particular camera states no drivers are needed for Windows XP and 2000. This is typically true for standard USB devices like memory card readers and hard drives and those usually also work on a Mac so I'm getting more confident that it will work.
But, there was another odd entry in the FAQ that kind of turns me off. It states that its normal for the camera to drain the batteries dead even when its not being used. It has internal SDRAM to keep alive. If the batteries die, you lose any photos stored in the internal memory and they recommend using an SD card.
For a few dollars more (approx $112), I'm leaning towards the Nikon Coolpix L10 or Canon A460. I can use it myself when I don't want to lug the Canon Digital Rebel around.

  • Fuji S700 digital camera on USB connection unnoticed

Just given Fuji Finepix S700 dig. camera. Trying to import pictures to my MacB. Plugged USB cable from camera to MacB, & turned camera on, as instructed. It doesn't show up in Finder. The cable is plugged directly to the computer, not a hub or extension.
I have installed FinePix viewer as instructed. Owner's Manuel says: "In Mac OS X, you must set the automatic setup when the first time you connect the camera to your PC." [sic] I don't know what that means, & haven't found any help on the computer.
System Profiler does SEE the device, but that apparently doesn't help me import anything or otherwise deal w/ the camera.
    Thanks for your help.

Try going to your Applications and launching 'Image Capture', then plug you camera in and turn it on. That camera should set itself to USB mode regardless of the dial position you choose.

  • Mini mac will not register my digital camera. It connected the first day and I was able to upload some video; however, I pulled the USB out--there was a bad message--and I cannot get the mac to register that I plug it back in.

Have you downloaded everything that is on the camera? If so format the SD card on the camera (will erase everything on the card).
If you have not downloaded everything can you see stuff on the camera? If you have a card reader you could try putting the SD card in that and trying on the mini. If your mini has a SD card slot you could try that.
In any case format the card on the camera before taking more pics.
Next time be sure to eject the camera from the Mac properly and turn the camera off before disconnecting.
EDIT: You might also check the camera's USB Mode is set to PC.

  • JVC Digital camera not fully connected

I have a JVC GR-DVM70 and I have a Mac mini / SuperDrive that won't capture video from it. It does rewind it and start it playing but after 10 secs it stops saying no video captured. When I plug it in I do not get a Connected message. Anybody been through this before, I sure could use your help?

Same problem here with JVC GR-DX37. With iMovie it works fine but One Step DVD in iDVD stops with 'no video captured'.
Has anybody worked this out yet?

  • IPhone connect to Digital camera or Eye-fi

Hi. Can I connect the iPhone to digital camera? If it is not possible, can I connect an eye-fi card to the phone? Thanks

I do not know of a way that iPhone and digital cameras can be connected (directly) at this time. However, Eye-fi has an application for the iPhone that will take iPhone photos and upload them over the internet to your computer. It works very well.
Eye-fi transfers photos wirelessly from the camera/SD card to your wireless router, then over the internet to an Eye-fi server and then down to you computer. This process works well, too.
Eye-fi comes with a USB adapter so that you can take the card out of your camera and "import" the photos to your computer
Eye-fi will transfer photos to iPhoto but you must select this feature thru your Eye-fi "account".
I wish Eye-fi connected directly to my computer over my local wifi network, but I could not determine how to do this.

  • I cannot download photos from my digital camera to Iphoto (version '09). I have been able to successfully do this up to 4 days ago but not yesterday. My camera/device is recognized in the Source List but photos won't download for me to import to library.

I cannot download photos from my digital camera (via a cable) to Iphoto (version '09). I have been able to do this successfully up til 4 days ago but not yesterday (Dec. 25th). My camera/device is recognized in the Source List, but when it tries to download the photos, all I get are the words "Loading Photos" in the area where the thumbnail pictures usually display. The little "gear" symbol next to the words but it just goes round and round. Nothing ever downloads, and instead of showing me how many pictures there are to import it just says "No photos". So therefore I cannot import the photos to my library since they won't even download.
I was getting an error message a few days ago that my Iphoto library was getting full, so I emptied my trash in both Iphoto and on my computer. I had this same problem back in October and emptying the trash and getting rid of some photos did help (can I really be using that much storage space for the pictures?). But it didn't help this time.
Any suggestions as to what to do to solve the problem? I would try taking the SD card out and inserting that into the slot on the computer to see if I could load pictures that way; but the last time I did that, they wouldn't load. Not sure if I lost pics from the disc or not.
    Thank you,
    Novice50

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • Images imported from a digital camera were viewable and editable at first but later disappeared! They cannot be re-imported from either the camera or the iCloud as iPhoto indicates that they already exist, but cannot locate them. Please help!

On holiday I have been uploading my photos to iphoto on my macbook pro every few days, the latest batch appeared and I was able to edit them, flag, merge events etc. However, later that day when I went back to the images they could not be found in my library. They had been removed from 'latest import', however were viewable on the icloud photo stream. I have attempted to re-import the images from both the digital camera and my photostream but iphoto indicates that the images had already been imported and would not import them again. I was able to locate the master images using finder, but Iphoto tells me that these files are unreadable (they are .jpg) when I try to re-add them this way. I have also tried to 'unhide' all images in case I had accidentally hidden them but this didn't work either.
    Any other suggestions?

a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

  • IPod Touch not travel friendly - can't connect digital camera to it.

I thought the iPod Touch would be perfect for any trip... Until I went on a trip with it.
Why doesn't Apple design a USB interface for the iPod Touch that plugs into the bottom of the unit, allowing digital cameras to to connect via USB through PTP? Just like if you had connected it to a Mac? Then you could upload pictures and videos to Flickr and Youtube from the iPod Touch while you are traveling! All I want to take with me on my trips is my iPod Touch, and my digital camera.
By the way, many hotels don't offer wifi, only ethernet! How about an ethernet adapter for the iPod Touch???

They did do for some previous iPod models. But maybe it wasn't popular enough to continue development.

  • Digital camera movies? iPhoto/iTunes?

    Hi
I have many small movies from my digital camera which are stored in iPhoto. I want them to be synced to AppleTV. So far the only solution I see is to export them manually for AppleTV and import them into iTunes. Is there an easier way?
why does AppleTV not sync those small movies automatically?
    Michael

Those small movies are in the wrong format for your tv.
You may have a couple of options to convert them the first I'd try would be by placing them into itunes selecting them and choosing 'convert selection for apple tv' from the advanced menu.

  • When importing pictures from digital camera, error/unreadable pics?

I'm new to Mac - and fairly green when it comes to all thinks computer related..so bear with me
I've connected by digital camera and tried using the iphoto to import - but it won't find/upload any pictures...I just get the spinning wheel/timer forever...and end up having to quit that process.
Then searching around a bit - found a process called "image capture". Not sure what the difference is - but when I use that icon to find my pictures...I'm getting about 1/2 way there...in that - for some reason while it will find and save SOME of my pictures from my camera/memory card - it seems to pick & choose which ones....and then I get an error message saying some of the jpgs were unreadable. But they are all jpgs on my camera ??? Help. Frustrated!! I want to use the iphoto editing software since it's much better than snapfish or others available and then order prints on line...but can't seem to get ALL the pictures I need.
    Thank you!

Hi BDAqua - thanks for the update link for Graphic Converter. I'll be sure to give that a try. I do have the camera plugged in versus running on battery...and the MAC plugged in too. My camera is a Casio Exilim 10.1 mpixels. Any idea if that's making a difference? This last time I plugged the camera in...it downloaded the pictures but then I had to "select all" and import to library as a second step. And the video on how the iphoto is suppossed to recognize and pretty much automatically import your photos doesn't seem to be occurring as easily or quickly as implied in the video.
So I'll give the GraphicConverter a spin and see if that works better. Any tips on usage...and is it just the method to upload....but from there, I still use iphoto to store them in the library, etc? (told you I was green with all this stuff!) Thanks too for the warm welcome!

  • OSX not recognizing digital camera

Suddenly, neither iPhoto nor Image Capture are opering with or recognizing my Canon digital camera when I connect it. The camera has worked with both programs flawlessly until now.
I've changed the batteries in the camera and have tried the connector cable in both USB ports on my MacBook Pro, no luck. I don't believe there's any preference in my camera for choosing whether the device will appear as a hard drive when connected to the computer. There aren't any error messages, other than in Image Capture: "no camera or scanner detected." More detaiil:
    - version of iPhoto '09: 8.1.2
    - version of the Operating System: Snow Leopard, 10.6.8
    - 13" MacBook Pro
I'm in the process of repairing permissions through Disk Utility. Any other ideas in case that doesn't work?
    Thanks!

Okay--after repairing permissions and restarting, removing the image storage card and putting it back in, the finder does recognize the camera. Whew! I really didn't want to reformat the card and lose my photos!

  • Disconnected camera appears as connected device - can't get rid of it!

I recently connected a Samsung Galaxy Tab (SCH-I905) to my Mac, and because it had a photo on it, iPhoto started up and wanted to import the photo.  I did that, and ejected the device and all seemed well.
But now whenever I start up iPhoto, the SCH-I905 appears as a connected device even though it is not connected.  An empty dotted line rectangle appears in the main pane showing there is allegedly 1 photo on it, but there is no thumbnail image for it, and if you try to import it you get an error "The following file could not be imported. The file is an unrecognised format" (even though the original file was jpg).
Further, this problem seems to be stopping iPhoto recognising my digital camera when I connect it - it doesn't appear.  The Image Capture app is similarly affected - it thinks the SCH-I905 is connected and refuses to recognise my digital camera.
I have tried trashing iPhoto preferences - no difference.
According to System Profiler and USB Prober, the SCH-I905 is not connected, but my digital camera is.  So the USB is working but iPhoto is ignoring it.
I can control-click the SCH-I905 icon in the left pane of iPhoto to "Unmount" it and the icon goes away, but my digital camera is still not recognised even if I unplug it and plug it back in again, and if I quit iPhoto and restart, the dreaded SCH-I905 comes back.
HELP!  How do I permanently unmount "SCH-I905" and restore sanity?
    iPhoto '09 (version 8.9.2)

    Try trash the following file
    com.apple.ImageCaptureNotifications.DeviceDiscoveryDatabase.501
    from HD/Library/ Caches
    and restart your mac.
