Digital Camera RAW Update 5.02 breaks Sony RX100 lens distortion correction (AGAIN!)
Just like with the Digital Camera RAW Update 4.08, the latest 5.02 update breaks the Sony RX100 lens distortion correction again. I'm reverted back to 5.01 until this is fixed.
From your Time Machine backup, restore the previous versions of
/System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle
/System/Library/CoreServices/RawCameraSupport.bundle
Yes, I noticed it too, but I wasn't certain it was 5.02 that did it as I sold my RX100 and haven't processes any files for a while. Then as part of the NR discussion here I looked at some old RX100 files, and the distortion correction now disappears. Unfortunately I can't really revert to 5.01 because I was waiting on the A7 support 5.02 brought.
Apple are aware of it, so hopefully the fix will be quick to arrive.

Digital Camera Raw update 4.02
is out in software update. I don;t see it on the Apple site yet however.
This from software updateDiscovered that the problem exists only with E-PM2 RAW files imported into Aperture before applying Digital Camera Raw Update 4.02. (I had been shooting RAW+JPEG since getting the camera, while waiting for RAW support.
Found a solution:
Select all the problem files. Choose "Reprocess Originals" from the Photos menu. Done. -
TUAW reports there's a new update to support more digital cameras. I didn't see a thread here, so I thought I'd share in case some of you were waiting for support.
Apple has released Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.1 via Software Update. The update can also be downloaded here. The 6.77 MB (web) or 7.2 MB (Software Update) update requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or 10.6.2, and extends RAW image compatibility for Aperture 3 and iPhoto '09 for the following cameras:
o. Hasselblad H3DII-50
o. Leica M9
o. Leica X1
o. Olympus E-P1
o. Olympus E-P2
o. Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1
o. Pentax K-7
o. Pentax K-x
o. Sony Alpha DSLR-A500
o. Sony Alpha DSLR-A550
o. Sony Alpha DSLR-A850I am running Aperture 2, and iPhoto 09, with a Pentax Kx.
Either the 3.1 update, or the ProKit upgrade, killed reading of my DNG files in Aperture.
Although Software Update shows them as recommended for iPhoto 9 and Aperture users, I would suggest passing on them if you are still in Aperture 2. -

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.1
About Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.
This update extends RAW file compatibility for Aperture 2 and iPhoto ’08 for the following cameras:
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi/Kiss Digital x2/450D
Epson R-D1
Leaf AFi 7
Leaf AFi 6
Leaf AFi 5
Pentax K200D
Pentax K20DFirstly, the best method I have found (superior to Adobe Import/Convert/Export) is to install the software from the A300 CD - I know, blasphemy. Anyhow, you can delete all except for the RAW Image Converter, which lets you do raw editing, its decent, and then export into whatever file type and size that is convenient for you, though its not the same as native Raw support, I know.
Quirks: Not many, its a great camera, I've had mine for about a month and a half now. The AF Assist light drains battery like an electric car, and I can't say that I totally appreciate the inability to invert the focus ring direction. Ergonomics whilst wearing glasses is mediocre at best and your screen will get dirty - you'll have to deal with it. Otherwise, its absolutely an amazing camera, DO NOT RETURN YOURS!!! As you can see, there are a few quirks, but if I were to write down its positives above cameras prices three times as much, the list would take up pages. keep it, its too good to care for the little things like that. -
I was excited to see that the digital camera raw compatibility update 3.8 purported to provide support for Olympus E-P3 raw files. I installed it from Software Update, and Aperture 3.1.3 (OSX 10.6.8) still showed the raw files as "unsupported". I restarted my Mac, got the same result. I downloaded and installed the standalone update, and again got the same result. Has anyone else had success with the update?
I found a solution. My E–P3 raw files still showed up as “unsupported” after reinstalling the update from the standalone updater. I discovered that selecting one of the “unsupported” raw files and having Aperture reprocess it (even though it had never been processed at all) made the file recognizable by Aperture and allowed me to make adjustments to it. I then reprocessed all of my E–P3 raw files and the only problem I have noted is that the vertical files were not auto rotated.
In reprocessing the raw files, I selected "only photos without adjustments" and "reprocess existing images". I hope this helps anyone who experienced this problem. -
How do I make the Digital Camera Raw update go away?
I have no idea what 'RAW' is, so this update is useless to me. But it won't go away, not even after I try to hide it. It won't hide! How can I fix this?
Just install it anyway. It's a tiny download and it's not worth stressing yourself over.
'RAW' in this case is referring to the raw image data from a Digital Camera's image sensor. Since each camera's sensor works differently, the RAW format differs for each camera, and support updates have to be released occasionally.
You may think you don't need this update, but it is not as pointless as you think. -
Digital Camera Raw update 4.09
has just been released. Hopefully this will bring to a close all the recent image corruption activity.

Digital Camera RAW Update 4.05 for Aperture and iPhoto - Fujifilm Users Rejoice
If you have a Fuji camera, hit Software Update. As of this posting it doesn't show up in Apple.com downloads.
Isn't that nice, Thomas? And so soon! I just installed 4.04.

Digital Camera RAW update 2.5 now out
http://support.apple.com/downloads/DigitalCamera_RAW_Compatibility_Update_25
Brings support for Nikon D3X and Epson R-D1x cameras.Well that will make R-D1x fans happy then. And releasing support for a camera that isn't out yet? WOW! that's unheard of! Surely this must be the first time that's happened. Maybe the engineers don't have LX3s/D-Lux 4s to play with but Epson gave them a R-D1x? Very frustrating

Lens distortion corrections in Camera Raw?
Chromatic aberration, lens vignetting, post crop vignetting
are possible in Camera Raw.
Why not have access to lens distortion corrections in CR?Maybe show us a screenshot of what you see on the system that isn't want you expect. What version of ACR are you using in each? It should be visible in the title bar of the ACR plug-in if you unmaximize it, or you can do About Plug-ins / Camera Raw in PS.
Here is the Manual tab of ACR 6.7 on Windows in CS5: -
Lens incorrectly recognised following update to Digital Camera RAW 4.03
I have a Canon 5D II and use a Sigma 12-24 DG HSM II lens with it.
My lens used to be identified in Aperture 3 as "Unknown (137) 12-24mm' until I updated to the latest Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 4.03.
Now the lens is incorrectly identified as Sigma 8-16mm with 1.4x converter.
Has anyone come across this issue or knows how to resolve this?
Using other softwares, the lens gets correctly recognised as 12-24mm.I'd suggest you use Aperture's "send feedback" mechanism to report this.

It should be available via Software Update.
http://www.apertureexpert.com/tips/2013/4/17/digital-camera-raw-update-405-for-a perture-and-iphoto-fujifi.html
New cameras supported:
Fujifilm X20
Fujifilm X100S
Fujifilm X-E1
Fujifilm X-Pro1
I would expect it would also be available for download here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/
But isn't there yet. I guess there may be numerous fewer threads here related to Fuji now ;-)The Mountain Lion raw support article also lists the update already - I had to remember to clear the Browser Cache to see it
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5371
And it was available at the AppStore for download more than an hour ago, but grouped with the pre-release software update, even if the update itself was not marked as pre-release seed. -
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6, Nikon NEF, ICloud & QuickView issue
Since a few weeks (maybe more) it appeared to me that my Nikon D7000 Raw Files went as plain black pictures on my IOS devices (Iphone or Apple TV running latests IOS releases).
Summary of the situation
Camera to Aperture => Fine
Aperture to ICloud photostream => ko
After some tests based on the discussion bellow
RAW files suddenly show up as "not supported" (Aperture 3.5.1, OS X 10.10)
it came clear to me that the key issue is related to Digital Camera Raw Update Compatibility Update 6. I made some tests using QuickView, iMessage & Aperture :
Test 1 : uninstall Digital Camera Raw Update Compatibility 6 and install version 5.07
Aperture => non supported format
QuickView (space bar) on NEF file => fine
Sent to my IPhone using IMessage => fine
Test 2 : reinstall 6.0.3
Aperture => fine
QuickView => plain black (after a time, I think QuickView is using first the camera preview before decoding RAW data)
Sent to my IPhone using IMessage => plain black
Did someone experienced the same ? Any solution ???
Kind regards,
JéDear Torreypines,,
thanks for your reply. However I quoted the discussion "RAW files suddenly show up as "not supported" (Aperture 3.5.1, OS X 10.10)" to illustrate my test method (uninstall and install an older Digital Camera Raw Update Compatibility).
I do run the latests Aperture Update (updated directly from the Mac App Store).
To illustrate, here is a screenshot of an IMessage discussion.
Action : drag and drop a Nikon D7000 NEF file to the discussion and send it to an IPhone
- Test 1 : Yosemite, Aperture, Digital Camera Raw... up to date => plain black
- Test 2 : Older (5.07) Digital Camera Raw => picture ok (unfortunately, Aperture ko)
This illustrate also what appends into ICloud. All NEF files uploaded since a few weeks are plain black into photostream on IOS Devices (Iphone and Apple TV).
Kind regards,

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 4.01 for Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11
Check Software Update!
Canon EOS M
Canon PowerShot S110
Nikon D600
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100
Canon PowerShot G15
Canon PowerShot SX50 HS
Nikon 1 J2
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ200
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G5
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX7
Sony Alpha NEX-F3
Those of you who have already imported "unsupported" photos into Aperture (i.e. Nikon D600) photos, simply choose Photos->Reprocess Original after installing this update (and restarting Aperture), and the photo will then show up.
Aperture Expert has a little summary too:
http://www.apertureexpert.com/tips/2012/10/24/digital-camera-raw-compatibility-u pdate-401-for-aperture-3-a.htmlI cannot fathom why a RAW update is not compatible with all versions of Aperture 3. This is forced redundancy in my opinion. Not happy...
I understand that this is annoying for you, but it is part of the redesign of MacOS to make it more efficient and not to waste disk space on redundant installations.
The recent raw update - as I see it - is an update to Mac OS X 10.8.x, not to Aperture. Since Mac OS X Lion Apple has started to migrate the raw support directly to the OS, so they do not need to install the raw support as update to many different applications. I have not checked yet - is this update included in Lion as well? I sincerely hope so.
Send feedback to Apple that you need this upgraded raw support also available in Snow Leopard.

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.03
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.03This update adds RAW image compatibility for additional cameras to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11. Jan 16, 2014
This update adds RAW image compatibility for the following camera to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11:
Canon EOS M2
It also includes fixes that:
Resolve an issue that prevented lens correction from working properly with Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 images
Address a color cast issue on some Olympus OM-D E-M1 imagesI think this update has been released quickly to resolve the RX100 and EM-1 issues, which were quite serious for users of those cameras.
We don't really know what Apple is working on, but on past experience there is usually a reason why they take their time. Support for Fuji X100 and X-Trans showed the benefits of this. Ligthrooms support for X100 was incomplete and the initial support for X-Trans was quite woeful. The Fuji forum at DPR had a lot of disapointed users, so while they got support faster, they continued to shoot Raw+JPEG and use the JPEGs. I don't know much about Pentax's JPEG engine though. In contrast, when X-Trans support finally came to Aperture, it made a much better job of retaining detail and reducing the colour bleeds, still not perfect but much better.
So while I understand your frustration, you can perharps take a little comfort in anticipating it will probably be worth the wait.
If I were adding support for the K3, the thing that would trip me up is the switchable AA filter. This essentially means it's going to need different demosaicing parameters based on the AA filter setting. It will be interesting to see if any reports start to appear about how well Lightroom is handling that aspect.

Can I retrieve data I had before I updated with a backup?
