Digital camera unplugged before ejecting - HELP!!

My friend was using my computer and unplugged my camera without ejecting it. Now when I plug it back in and turn it on it doesn't appear on the desktop like it used to, nor in the finder, nor does iPhoto automatically open. However, I can see it in Disk Utility.
When I try to repair the disk it says this:
Verify and Repair disk “PENTAX S4I”

Unable to read directory (Invalid argument)

However, if I take out the SD memory card the camera works as it used to, which leads me to believe the card itself was damaged. Here are my questions:
*If the card is damaged, is there any way to repair it?
*Even if the card is unsavable, can I still get the pictures off some other way?
*If I buy a new memory card for the camera, will everything be ok, or is there some problem with how the camera, the card, and the computer communicate?
*If I am able to get the photos off, could I then erase the card and reformat it somehow so that it could be used again?
Also:
In Disk Utility, the camera appears as an orange external drive symbol called "969.3 MB Pentax Digit..." and there is a sub-drive listed under it called "Pentax S4i". When I click on this sub-drive, which is grey font instead of black font, it says down below "Mount Point: Not Mounted" and "Format: MS-DOS File System (FAT16)". However, when I plug in the camera without the card in there the names of the drives are different and everything is fine.

I am looking to buy a new digital camera and need some help. I need an all around durable and highly functional camera for my family. We are very active and I will need to be able to have this camera in many situations. I don't need an SLR as far as I know, but I don't know much about them either. We just want to be able to capture moments for memory purposes, especially a camera that is very responsive to getting action shots. I would love to have a camera that is waterproof, but I don't know how much has to be sacrificed otherwise to get this feature. I also want it for going snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding.....tolerant to cold weather is important too. Can someone point me in the right direction to get started?

Years ago this would have been a tall order, but a couple of years ago manufacturers introduced a new Point-and-Shoot camera product category. These cameras are both waterproof and shock resistant (up to specific tolerances).
DSLR cameras are generally built much better than Point-and-Shoot cameras, and they almost always produce much better image results. What a DSLR is not is waterproof, and in order to have a DSLR waterproof you would need to invest in an underwater housing. Higher end DSLR cameras are usually water resistant, but this does not mean they can sustain constant contact with water before causing problems. A DSLR would also be very heavy and cumbersome to carry with you while snowboarding or sledding.
I would suggest looking at a waterproof and shock resistant Point-and-Shoot camera. If I had to pick one that we carry I would suggest the Pentax W80 camera, which in addition to being waterproof and shock resistant it is also cold proof.

SOLUTION:
Iam pointing t0 windows7 os.
1) go to control panel
2) open hardware and sound
3) In that open Devices and printers
4)In that u can find Apple Iphone.
5) now right click on this --> Hardware --> Properties --> General --> Uninstall --> ok.
6) now unplug and plug in ur iphone again.There u go u iphone name changes to its original name.

I am having this problem. At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2. I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps. I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them. The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage. It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup. With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up. The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete. This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.

Stop motion animation help using images from a digital camera...how tricky is this?

I'm teaching a media arts course for the first time, and I'm trying to figure out how to use images taken with a digital camera, import them to Premiere Elements 7, and put them in the timeline without having to shorten the length of them. As soon as I drag an image from the project bin onto the timeline, it automatically plays for 5 seconds, and I have to try to shorten it to one frame length. If that's what it takes, this process is going to take a lot of time, because the students are going to be taking several hundred photos. If I edit them in the preview, it's still just as difficult. Is there any way to change the settings before I import the images so that they automatically are one or two frames in length on my timeline? Your help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
As Steve points out, setting the Edit>Preferences>Still Duration BEFORE Importing, will get what you want.
When doing Stop-Motion, I find that a Duration = 3 to 5 Frames, works best, but that will depend on the images, how far apart, they were shot, and the exact effect that I want. It might take a little experimenting, to get things correct to both your eye, and to the images from the camera.
Also, Scaling the Still Images, prior to Import is a very, very good idea, and especially so, with Stop-Motion, as you will have lots of them.

PS - if you are using Transitions, between the Still Images, you will want to alter the Duration of those too, prior to applying them.

Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Before you reinstall the Apple software, also remove iCloud vi Control Panel Remove programs. The reinstall the Apple programs

I keep getting a message that I am disconnecting my digital camera incorrectly. Before I got my iMac I didn't have this problem, but now I can't find the FILE, EJECT buttons. My computer consultant says to go to UNTITLED FOLDER under ALBUMS and click on the circular icon to the right of it. Right now
the untitled folder is there, but not the circlular icon. No matter how I try to do this, I get a warning that I have done it improperly and that I may have caused damage. I don't want to damage my camera or my iMac. How can I disconnect properly?

When you connect your camera, what settings do you use for importing the pictures? I have mine set to simply show on the desktop, so I get an icon "Canon" on my desktop. When I'm done, I drag that icon to the trash and that is how you properly eject it. So we need to figure out where that icon is. Go to your settings in iPhoto and check those as well as in CDs and DVDs in System Preferences and also in Finder Preferences. Post what you see in those locations.

Itunes wont read iphone, thinks it's a digital camera...help

I dont know what happened, but when I first got my PC with vista 64, and had itunes installed with the iphone, everything worked. 3 days ago I reformatted my drives and reinstall windows and all my programs. I got itunes working with all my music and whatnot, but when I plug my iphone in to toss music on it, itunes wont read it. Windows knows it's there, but everytime I plug it in, the lower right hand corner the "windows is installing new driver blah blah" pops up, and then get an error message saying it couldnt install the driver. I go to device manager and windows thinks it's a digital camera. I did the whole update driver with the "c:\windows\system32\drivestore\usbaapl_" thing, and I got this message:
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

The system cannot find the file specified."
I have been googling the crap out of this and I am at wit's end with this. I've uninstalled/reinstalled itunes, cleaned registry, wiped all apple programs from the PC, anything google told me to, hahaha. Serious, I cant find any forum or web article to help me past this point. Please help...

I think I got it. I've had the same problem as you and many others. I went to device manager and found iPhone under imaging devices. Here's what I did:
Right-click -> properties -> driver tab -> update drivers (launches Hardware Update Wizard) select...
No, not this time (next) Install from a list ... (next) Don't search ... (next) Now there should be two choices under model. Select the Apple Mobile Device. This is not digitally signed so you'll get warnings but continue. When I did this iTunes picked up my iPhone right away.

The itunes library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation" I restarted my computer and opened iTunes, only to find that all of my apps and songs have been deleted. When I plug in my iPod, it says that this iPod is registered with another computer. My computer, however, is recognizing my iPod as a digital camera, with the name of my father's iPod. I have no idea how to fix this and get all of my songs/apps back. Someone please help!

Check your iTunes version - although your 5th gen works with older iTunes versions, at least 7.4 is required for the IPT - older versions will not even recognize it.
As for the Apple site not working, there have been sporadic reports of that, no known reason, usually resolved in a few hours.
You could also try updating using Apple Software Update (usually found in Start > All Programs), or from within iTunes (Help menu > Check for Updates).

If you asking me, I would suggest to additonally use a second storage service which also allows you to store your pictures over the 30 days period. I personally use Dropbox with automatic upload for that (https://db.tt/cMEgDUFZ), but there are also other storage services like Flickr for example.
