Digital Editions for BlackBerry Playbook

Hi,
I tried to download Adobe Digital Editions for my playbook. But I later leaned that it's not compatible with Playbook.
Can somebody please let me know other way to check out books from public digital library for playbook.

There are two possible issues.  One is whether the file is in .epub or .pdf format, the other is whether it has DRM (Digital Rights Management) applied to it.
It seems there are Blackberry apps for .epub files.
http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/50823/?lang=en
http://forums.crackberry.com/playbook-apps-games-f243/best-epub-reader-726698/   talks about some.  I don't know if the name crackberry means they are for a cracked Blackberry only.
Both these threads talk about NON-DRM .epub files.
There are lots of non-drm .epub files for download: including almost all classics that are out of copyright (try project Gutenberg).
Most bought books and library books have DRM applied.
I haven't seen anything that says you can read DRM books on the Blackberry.
There are hints one might be coming.

http://www.berryreview.com/2012/10/23/devs-adobe-reader-mobile-sdk-for-epub-drm-now-availa ble-for-playbook-blackberry-10/
I would avoid converting to .pdf for reading if at all possible.
pdf format files don't flow to match your screen size and chosen font size, and are a pain for anything apart from their original application in printing.

You will want to download a copy of Bluefire Reader from the Google Marketplace.

is there an adobe digital editions for windows RT

Not as such.  However there are a few apps that will let you read DRM books.
Check out in the reader store
DL Reader: that one has worked best for me
Overdrive: could be good for library books, sometimes stroppy about getting your Adobe ID registration working
DReader: I couldn't get it to behave, but might be worth trying for you

  • Digital Editions for Mac Support for Sony eReaders

With Sony releasing the eBook Library 3.0 Software for Mac and PC today and, therein, providing an official Sony eReader driver for Mac (sony_prs kernel extension found in the 3.0 software installer), will Adobe be able to provide support for the Sony eReaders in a future version of Adobe Digital Editions for Mac? As far as I understood, the limitation on the Mac version stemmed from the fact that Sony itself did not officially support the Mac but with that now in the past when can we expect to see this support added in Adobe Digital Editions for Mac?  Thank you!

Believe what you read on the site.

  • Digital Editions for win and the ASUS ea800

    hiya,
First things first: if you're someone inclined to point out that the ASUS ea800 does not appear on the supported devices page, you're a dolt and i would prefer that you didn't.
Now, my query is of the general form: why doesn't Digital Editions for Windows recognise my device? What is the procedure for investigating this issue? Are there knowledge base articles/instructions for this, and if so, where do they live?
    Cheers,
    andrew p

    hiya,
Thanks for the reply: i wasn't really expecting one after my use of the word "dolt;" it's just that the device doesn't appear on the 'compatible devices list,' but it is actived for DRM and by all accounts, it should work.
To be sure, towards the end of this video (a review of the EA800 by Good Ereader i think; can hardly see a thing, but...)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Sx8AYBAKFE
the fellow does just that: the EA800 appears as a bookshelf in Digital Editions and content is managed flawlessly. In addition, the device he has is a pre-release version that ASUS sent him.
    cheers,

  • Unable to autorise the digital edition for Overdrive

I am unable to authorize the digital edition for overdrive. I am using the same user id and password that of Overdrive account. I still get the error "Incorrect Login Id or password for the selected ebook vendor."
How do I resolve the issue.

We plan to remove this limitation in the free Personal Edition of Lumira before the end of this year.  In the meantime, as mentioned by Chris, you can initiate the 30 day trial option which you can activate from within the "Home" page of the Personal Edition of Lumira.

  • Adobe Digital Editions for Playbook

I was told that during summer 2011 this would become available(sorry, don't have the name or contact of the peron who told me this)..  Nothing has happened yet.  I bought the Playbook so I could download books using Digital editons, as this is what the publishers are using to  make advance copies of books available to reviewers.  Now I have the books on my desktop, but can't get them onto my Playbook.  Any suggestions?  Can I move them from the Digital editions to Adobe Reader?

Well, on their compatible devices page, there is mention of quite a few, not sure if, since Kobo is listed, that it would work on a Playbook. I am really disappointed at the whole thing, RIM device users once again seems to have gotten marginalized, isolated, I have a Playbook and how nice it would be just to download a freaking book, and play it there...How nice that would be. But no, it's not compatible with most of the WORLD!

  • Repackaging Android Viewer App for BlackBerry PlayBook

    Hi,
Does anyone have tried this? If yes, then was repackaged Viewer working OK on the PlayBook? What tools/utilitiies were used for repackaging as there are few available:
    https://bdsc.webapps.blackberry.com/android/
    http://crackberry.com/how-install-android-market-and-other-applications-your-blackberry-pl aybook
"The BlackBerry PlayBook is a tablet like no other. The powerful QNX Real Time Operating System embedded within allows it run an entirely different operating system as another application on top of the standard PlayBook OS. This is how the PlayBook will run repackaged Android applications. For the most part, though, repackaged apps will appear to run just like regular PlayBook applications."
    Thank you,
    Gennady
Update: This compatibility test determines how compatible your app  is with the BlackBerry PlayBook OS:
    https://bdsc.webapps.blackberry.com/android/bpaa/apk-compatibility-check
And this is a result for Android Market Installer build with Sprint 19 Viewer Builder:
Your application is not compatible with the BlackBerry® Runtime for Android™ Apps.
Your application uses a feature which is incompatible with the current version of the BlackBerry® Runtime for Android™ Apps. We recommend that you download the BlackBerry® Plug-in for ADT to test your application and remove features as required.
    4. Severe incompatibilities found
    Impact     Type     Reason
    3     uses-permission     com.android.vending.BILLING
So if In-app Billing would be optional checkbox for Android app with the optional use of com.android.vending.BILLING in the code, then I guess it will be possible to repackage Viewer for PlayBook. And yes, Amazon Appsstore Installer is compatible with the BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps.

OS2 for the Playbook is still in beta at this point, should be released sometime next month.
So your problem is not that you can't find any apps, you just can't find the one(s) you're looking for.

  • No Direct support for BlackBerry PlayBook tablet - why not I just bought it?

I've just bought a playbook. It says it comes with complimentary technical support for 90 days form the date of purchase. I have attempted to register the device using the S/N number as required and I get the following:
Unfortunately, your BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet does not qualify for Complimentary Support. You can, however, get assistance using incident based support from Research In Motion.
    Why? grrrrrrrrrrrr

It should be. The complimentary support is just for help setting it up.
If you visit http://blackberry.com/support and follow the link for PlayBook you should get a phone number you can call, and RIM support will be able to help you.

  • Converting textbook to single digital edition for iPad

We are about to repurpose a medical textbook to a single digital edition. I'm looking for guidance in two areas before jumping in feet first...
Are there example of other textbooks converted using DPS that anyone can direct me to?
Are there any size limitations (i.e., number of articles, number of scrollable pages, amount of content, etc.)?
    Thanks!

Thanks...that's interesting to know. We looked at the ePub, but the editors felt this book wouldn't work using that format. The book has a lot of "parts" and the print version is highly designed. We understand that there will be sacrifices moving to a digital edition, but we weren't willing to take the product down to an ePub design.

  • Trouble with Adobe Digital Editions for Mac - please Help

I just got a Kobo Glo and am trying to download/install the Adobe Digital Editions software on my Mac but I am running into issues: (I not very versed in computers so I hope someone can walk me through my issues slowly)
I tried to download the Adobe Digital Editions software and got a screen saying installation was complete, I appear to have Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 and Adobe Digital Editions icons in my applications folder, when I go to open the Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 Icon I am taken to a "bookshelves" page with a "Getting Started with Adobe Digital Editions" booklet in it.
I do not know how to open the Adobe Digital Editions actual software so I can access the "set up assistant" to authorize my computer??????????????? It does not seem to want to open on it's own and I have no idea how to find it.  I do have an Adobe ID.
I thank you in advance for any help you are able to provide. Once again I am not very computer literate so please be very specific.

When you have ADE (digital editions) open with  "bookshelves" page with a "Getting Started with Adobe Digital Editions" booklet in it,
    enter cmd-shift-U, or menu/Help/Authorize Computer.
That will ask for your Adobe ID and password and authorize the computer.
Once that has been done you shouldn't need to do it again.
Sometimes you do need to if things go wrong, but you certainly shouldn't have to do it at all regularly.
When that has been done, plug in the Kobo; it should show up in the left pane of ADE.
Use "menu/Help/Authorize Device" and that will authorize your Kobo with the Adobe ID from the Mac.
You can then copy books by drag-dropping onto the Kobo within ADE
