Digital I/O Mod

I am using a Sound Blaster Li've 24-bit. Will a model ct-4800 I/O module work with this card ?Quick Start instructions list a model SB0002 I/O module. I wonder if these 2 models are the same..

You'd need to connect the SPDIF-out on your DVR/Xbox to the SPDIF-In on the Digital I/O module, and unmute the digital-in on the mixer and the sound will play through the computer speakers. However, your card cannot decode DD/DTS signals, so it would be stereo or upmixed (i.e. "fake" ) surround.Message Edited by HSE on 07-06-2007:00 PM

Stuck in headphone (optical digital-out port) mode. What do I do? Plugging and unplugging headphone jack no help.

Do you see a red light in the headphone jack?? If you do, then the microswitch is stuck and you need to turn it off. Try poking it with a toothpick.
If you don't see a red light, then try resetting the SMC and PRAM and see if these helps. Here are the links.

• FlexiJack Digital I/O Mode L

I cannot get the FlexiJack to stick in the Digital I/O mode following computer re-boot. The Digital I/O still shows that it is selected but the only way to get it to work following computer re-boot is to unselect it and then re-enable it. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so what is the solution?I have all of the latest updates installed.

• X-Fi XtremeMusic with Digital I/O mod

Hi,
I have acquired a Digital I/O module and am trying to have it output stereo sound to my speakers.
I have connected one end of a coaxial cable to the DIO module and the other end of the coaxial cable to my speakers' digital input coaxial port. These speakers are by Altec Lansing and the model number is ADA-885.
My speakers operate in a few modes: Stereo, StereoX2, Pro-logic, Quad (4.) or DD5. decoding mode. It has three inputs:
analog FRONT
analog REAR
SPDIF digital in (either PCM stereo OR DD5. bitstream)
In addition to the digital connection, I have connected the analog ports of the rear speakers to lineout#2 on the soundcard. This is so I can get 4. surround sound for games.
This configuration has worked for me previously on an SBLi've soundcard with the daughter card where the digital output is.
In gist, I am getting FRONT stereo through digital connection and REAR stereo through analog. I have the speakers set in Quad (4.) mode.
I have read that the DIO module only outputs either PCM STEREO or DD5./DTS bitstream so technically, this should not be a problem as (at this point in time) all I want out of the DIO module is to provide PCM stereo and/or DD5. bitstream to my speakers.
Herein lies the problem. Using the Console Launcher's Speaker config utility, I do a speaker test. The front channels are fine, with sound coming only from the front speakers. But as I get to testing the rear channels, I hear the test sound coming from the front speakers as well. (i.e. When testing REAR LEFT, I hear "REAR LEFT" coming from the rear left speaker as well as the front left speaker. Same thing goes for the REAR RIGHT channel.)
I disconnected the analog rear connection and tested the speakers again. The front channels are fine but the same thing happens to the REAR channels. They are heard from the front speakers. Shouldn't the REAR channels not be heard at all since the analog rear connection has been severed?
This did not happen with the SBLi've (I have the very first model of SBLi've with the daughter card. It is not a Li'veDE5. or anything else).
EDIT: Whoa..it gets worse. Now I find out that the REAR channels are reversed. The "REAR RIGHT" channel is heard on the REAR Left speaker and vice versa. What's going on!?
SmithyJMessage Edited by smithyj on 07-3-2006 :6 PM

Hi Catherina,
I do not have a Logitech webcam and have never owned one. The problem with REAR channels being reversed was resolved after uninstallation of the X-Fi and subsequent reinstallation. I use the CD that came with the card and install the normal package plus the Volume Panel. After that, I install the latest drivers from the Creative website. (not the BETA drivers)
Oddly, when I uninstalled it the first time and then reinstalled it using the CD (before installing the latest web release), the REAR channel was mapped correctly to the REAR speakers only even with the digital connection in place. The problem came back after I installed the web release.
However, the problem of the REAR channel being heard from FRONT speakers still persists even after I have uninstalled the X-Fi and reinstalled it from scratch multiple times. (with or without installing the web release)

Hi everyone and first of all thank you for your time. The problem is pretty simple, I get no sound no matter what. :smileytongue:?I looked around in the forums and the only thread I found relating to this are concerns about the DTS capabilities and such. Everyone claims to have sound using the Digital Stereo setting in their XBOX well this doesn't work for me. I am not very good with the audio aspect of computers so I took a few screenshots to help you help me. :smileyvery-happy:?Just incase?I tried the red and the white wire on numerous occasion (because honestly I have no clue which one is the right one) and I never managed to get anything out of it... please help me!!! ?[img"]http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/sinoir/creative_console02.jpg">[img"]http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/sinoir/creative_console0.jpg">[img"]http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/sinoir/audio_conole.jpg">[img"]http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2/sinoir/windows_option.jpg">

• SB0358 and the Digital I/O mod

Will the digital i/o module work on the Audigy 2 ZS that comes with the Dell (see subject for product code). I just set up a 65" plasma and want to connect my computer via coaxial or optical to my sound system. I just picked up the Yamaha RX-Z9 and want the best possible sound. But on the web page it states that it will not work with any other card. I figure that this is a value card as it is sold with the Dell, but would like to make sure before buying the $5 device and then not being able to return it.
Thanks,
Mario

• Help on SB Live 5.1 & Digital I/O Mod

Hi
I've recently reinstalled my WinXP Pro Svc Pack 2 and is facing this problem with my SB Li've 5. and the Internal Digital I/O Module.
The Volume Control is detecting the Digital I/O module and have eg. Volume Control for the SPDIF In, when I'm using the WinXP Built-In SB Li've Series (WDM) Driver. But using this driver Creative Software like AudioHQ and Creative Mixer will not work. Creative Diagnostics fail and requie me to reinstall the drivers.
Installing the latest SB Li've Driver (Li'veDrvUni-Pack downloaded from Creative), AudioHQ and Creative Mixer does works, but the softwares are not detecting the Internal Digital I/O Module. The Volume Control column in does not reflects the SPDIF In (not hidden as well). AudioHQ also no longer reflects the Icon for the SPDIF Input.
Will be very greatful if someone can advise for a possible solution.
Regards,
Knite00

Your card is perhaps some of those OEM models (SB022-SB0229).
Maybe trick helps you to install the update.
By following instructions from http://www.tech-pc.co.uk/audigy-2.php you (perhaps) be able to use the latest Audigy n drivers w/ your card (and install Audigy software too, link for CD can be found from ). In generally, patching is quite painless to do, if you just use "Automatic method" and follow the instructions carefully.

• Audigy 2 ZS and digital I/O mod

Device manager states I have an Audigy 2 ZS, I'm running windows XP SP2. It has the digital jack on the top of it, and I purchased the "Digital I/O" module because it had an optical adapter on it. It's currently on my media center and I'm trying to get it connected to my surround sound. I've read a few threads about enabling the digital out only on the windows settings and I've done so. I still don't see any light coming through the cable.
Is the Audigy 2 ZS not compatible with the digital i/o module? If not then why did I pay so much for an audigy 2 / why is there a digital out on it / how am I supposed to get an optical signal from it's Thanks in advance guys!

• Camcorder vs. Digital Camera Video Mode

Hi,
I'm a newbie and I'm hoping this forum can help me. I have a Canon ZR45 Camcorder (18x Optical Zoom/ 360X Digital Zoom) (Yes, it's about 4yrs old) and a Canon SD750 that takes 30 fps VGA with a max 640x480 size.
I took a video of my new baby just playing around using both. In my mind, I would have thought the camcorder would have had better quality when played back in iMovie but when I looked at the clips side by side, the video from the Digital Camera looked much better and crisper. The camcorder video was pretty blurry. I cannot make sense of comparing the 18x optical zoom info of the camcorder as that is all i have to go by with it to anything more specific in terms of fps or resolution size.
Has the digital video gotten that much better over the years? I'm all for carrying as little as possible. Any comparison to newer camcorders in terms of overall quality?
Sorry for the long story, but thanks so much in advance!
Jason

Digital camera's video feature has improved considerably. If you simply compare the video on the codec level many of today's digi-cams have better quality than aging DV format. But that is only part of the story.
TV vs Computer - If you shoot video for TV playback on mind, DV would probably yield better result because it is designed for TV and not computer displays, which is why they look bad on computers than on TV. Two have very different color and gamma characteristics. Conversely, to make digicam videos good on TV proper color correction should be done, or they tend to look too contrasty and harsh.
Motion rendering - Most digi cam videos shoot 30 progressive frames per second while DVs shoot 30 interlaced frames (or 60 fields) per second, so the motion rendering is smoother on DV.
Maunal control - Digital cameras have few if at all manual control for exposure or shutter speed of your video.
Zoom - Most DV cams at least have 10x optical zoom, while digital cameras olny have 3~5x optical zoom.
Audio - From built in microphone's quality to audio recording format, DV's audio is superior to digicam's mono low quality audio.
Accessorizing - Camorders have common threads (43mm, 72mm, etc) where you can screw in various filters or conversion/wide angle lens.
Portability and quick snap-ablity - pocket digital cams truly shine for this and maybe it's all needed. With your camera in the pocket you will have much better chance of capturing the moment of your baby's first step. Just make sure you have large memory card in it.
Perhaps camera like Sanyo's xacti HD700 would be a good hybrid. It is a digital camera with the stress on movie function than still image.

• Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio + Digital I/O mod

I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio which I recently bought together with Logitech Z-5500 system to get surround sound. First I was surprised it only had analog output, but then i saw there was a digital output, but i needed to buy more **bleep** to use it. So I bought the I/O module, got it home today, and I tried to use it with an optical toslink cable. However, it didn't work, and when I looked on the website it seems the module is not capable with my card?! I thought i checked it, but I probably just took for granted it would in fact work since the card has one of these digital I/O outputs on the backside.
So, have I now thrown away both the money for the card and for the I/O module or am I just too stupid to make it work?

It is compatible with your card, but you won't get multichannel audio from sources that aren't already encoded as DD/DTS streams. If you don't get any sound at all check that the flexijack is configured as digital I/O instead of line-in and that it doesn't need to reset with every reboot.

Hi Andy,
It depends on the source. On an optical output, you'll get multiple channels through if it's an AC3 source, such as the audio from a DVD. Other/normal audio will only come through as a stereo PCM signal though, so you'll only get 2 channels then. Check this sticky thread for some more detail:
