Digital lines showing in full quality quicktime export

Hello - just an addition to a previous matter - I exported an 11 min. movie in H.264, w/the default settings, NTSC 4:3; 720 x 480. It's 572.1 MB and I burned to a CD, so that the client can download it into their own laptop, then project it onto a screen. When I viewed it on my computer, there were all kinds of 'digital lines' that showed up, particularly through the transitions (though on most everything else as well), that don't show up on the burned DVD copy. I'm wondering what, if any, particular settings can I use when exporting, so that these pesky 'lines' won't show up, as it looks perfect on the DVD, but won't be viewing from that on the day of the event - ok, thank you!

I have the same problem... Im using DV pal. Looks loke this is a big problem for many users, bus nobudy knows how to fiks it..my lines are still there on the dvds to by the way..)

  • Full Quality Quicktime export squashed the picture

    Hi,
Exported iMovie HD6 clips as Quicktime export. Clips are 4:3 resolution. Set export dims to "current", but in the exported movie, people and objects look shorter and wider.
    Settings used:
    Compression: H.264
    Quality: Best
    Encoding mode: multi-pass
    Dimensions: 720x480 (current)
    Format: AAC
    Sample Rate 48.000 kHz
    Channels: Stereo
    Bit Rate: 320 kbps
Prepare for Internet Streaming- Fast Start checked.
Settings were chosed based on youtube.com recommendations.
Why does the movie look squashed?
    Thanks!!!

    UPDATE:
Tried again, and selected dimensions: NTSC 720x480 4:3 instead of "Current" 720x480.
This corrected the problem, but can anyone explain why selecting "current" to preserve the 4:3 aspect ratio messed things up?
    Thanks!

  • Overlap transitions choppy after exporting 'Full Quality' QuickTime

I have a movie created with images and music, no video. I used the overlap transition between each image. All images have a slight Ken Burns effect. Then I exported to Full Quality Quicktime to bring into iDVD. I originally tried to export right to iDVD and the resolution was horrible but the transition were fine. Now I have great resolution but the transition is choppy. It's almost like the frames per second dropped during the transition. Don't know what to do to fix it.

I have solved ALL my issues!! At least with this project. I had 3 issues with this project: low res on final output, flickering in the images while using Ken Burns effect and not so smooth transition issues.
I changed my video format to HDV 1080i. I was able to use my lower res untouched images (before I put a .6 Gaussian blur effect on the images to reduce the amount of flickering and saved them as high res TIFFs). I did have to change to widescreen format, but I think my client will see that as a cool factor. I'm so happy I could cry!!! It took me a week to get it figured out, but I learned A LOT about iMovie during that time. Now I have a bunch of project ideas flying through my head. I'm going to enjoy my happy moment for a little while. I still do not know why iMovie was doing the weird transition thing in the iSight format. I think I'll stick with the HDV.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Export a Full Quality QuickTime Movie for CD

Hello - I have an 11 min. movie, that contains mostly pics, but also some video - I will be giving it to someone to play on there computer, which will also project onto a screen, during a wedding reception. She just wants to be able to load it into her computer - what is the most effective way of doing this?
I thought about exporting to a 720x480 Quicktime movie, using Qtime Conversion in FCP, and H.264 compression - is there a better way, so that it will show the best quality? After burning the movie to a QT file onto a CD, I thought I would then give to her to download - is this the proper way to do this type of thing?
Any suggestions are most appreciated as always - thank you...

    KL -
That might be fine... thing is you WANT to have her test it. Sometimes playing large files like this (yes, even at h264) can choke a pc pushing it out to a projection unit.
I like putting it back to tape and sending it full rez out of a deck or other video camera.
I never trust PCs to even play a DVD out.

  • Full Res Quicktime export

I've been asked to provide a Full Resolution Quicktime version of my video for broadcast (PAL), how do I achieve this via AME? My sequence is a 1920x1080p Canon DSLR format video. When I choose the Quicktime format, I'm only given standard definitions presets to choose from. However, I do get to choose various codec options, If I choose DVCPRO HD 1080p25, the sequence then becomes downscaled to 1440x1080. Is there a way to output to a full res (1920x1080) Quicktime file?
Thanks for the help and advice.

Some codecs are limited to certain resolutions.  DV for example.
Choose a codec that allows the resolution you want.

  • How to make high-quality QuickTime export?

I have a question regarding the QuickTime export.
I have a very pretty Keynote Preso with some nice transitions, and I want to export to QuickTime. When I export with expert settings, using H.264, 60fps, 512x384, the movie looks great - but plays VERY choppy even on my dual-core 2.0 GHz mac. It looks pretty, and if I step through the frames I can see they're all there... it should be able to transition smoothly, but the transitions look awful.
I've noticed that if I export an interactive QuickTime movie, the transitions are smooth and beautiful! But I don't want it to require user clicks - I want it automatic. So:
    - Can I make my QuickTime export look good AND smooth?
    or
    - Can I make the "interactive" QuickTime export play by itself?

Effectively, I post this because I hope help other one to solve this issue.
So at first I didn't not very clearly understand about it.
The issue point is hope export AVCHD disk form Premiere/Encore.
(Premiere Element can export AVCHD file).
Now, I thought the Premiere/Encore can't export AVCHD disk.
The menu describe form in the other one, I think is not  issue point and maybe operate mistake.
    thank you!

  • Export in Full Quality??

With iMovie '06, all I had to do was click on "Full Quality" when exporting to have the video export in the same quality that it had been in as I was working on it. I can't find any way to do that with iMovie '11. I've tried Export Medium & Export Large, Export to Quicktime Broadband High as well as the default option, and every time the final video comes out fuzzy and not nearly as clear as the project I had been working on. The material is not in HD, but nevertheless the final exported product is always much lower quality than what it should be.
Someone please tell me there's a way to export my video without vastly reducing the video quality. Thanks

    Hi
The problem is - What do You mean by Full Quality. It's very different if Your original material is
    • miniDV tape PAL or NTSC refered to as DV and 25 or 29.97fps
    • DVPRO
    • DV-HD
    • DV Widescreen (16x9)
    • HDV 1080i
    • HDV 720p
    • MPEG-4
    • iSight
    • MPEG-2 from Cameras that records on DVD or miniDVD - some versions are OK
    • .mov
    • .avi
    • AVCHD (= H.264)
And - where You aim Your movie
    • as a DVD
    • YouTube
    • AppleTV
    • else
IF You are as Me in miniDV tape age and aiming to do a DVD as result.
Then and Only Then - iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - are not the tools to USE as they all discard every second line
in interlaced video on export - How-ever You trie to do it. Not Possibly.
    Tools to use are
    • iMovie up to HD6
    • FinalCut any version Express or Pro
To re-install iMovie HD6 - You need the iLife 6 Disks or the one that Came with Your old Mac.
From here You must seek the forum to figure out exact steps - Has been delivered several times during the Years.
As I get it iMovie'11 has to be removed first - then iMovie HD6 installed then put application into a folder
named iMovie Previous versions - Then iMovie'11 can be re-installed.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Export "full-quality" in iMovie '09.

Using iMovie HD, I used to export my footage as a full-quality QuickTime movie so I could archive it to disk and access it later. However, in iMovie '09, the "full-quality QuickTime" preset seems to have been removed.
What export settings in iMovie '09 will allow me to achieve the highest possible quality? I'd like to archive my footage to disk so that I'll always have a digital file to work with.
    Thank you.

Welcome BarrenRegions to the  iMovie boards ..
no way to answer that question.. you have to compare apples with peaches.. (German proverb):
iMHD≥6 was a dv-only editor (and AIC, but this is another story...); it handles dv lossless.. frequent contributor lennart once made a test of ex- and reimporting a few dozends time the same clip = no loss of pic quality.
    now iM08/09:
it handles dv not as dv internally anymore; therefore it accepts lots of other codecs (mp2, avchd, h264...).. so, depending of your source, the export can be lossy.
we have mile-long threads about that, search for posts from Steve Mullen and Euisung Lee who did research this issue +ad nauseam+
as far as I followed that discussion: there's a 'trick', to convert - after import into iM08/09 - the imports to AppleIntermediate with tools as QTpro or Mpeg Streamclip. that blows-up size, but forces iM08/09 to keep quality a 100%...
.. sorry for being less helpful, even as a 'Silverback' on this board, all that is +a bit+ beyond my skills, needs and understanding.. to be honest: I switched awhile ago to FinalCutExpress, and will use iM09 when I'll get a new rec-device.. hopefully this year (Santa! do you listen?!...)

  • Video freezes when exporting to Full Quality

[Background: I've been working on a video project in iMovie HD that I'm doing in pieces - exporting each section of the video at full quality when it's done, so that later I can put them all together in a new project.]
Lately I've been having major problems exporting to full quality Quicktime files. The exported video freezes a few frames in, though the audio continues to play normally. This does not happen if I save it to a smaller quality, say, Web Streaming.
I'm having trouble seeing a pattern in how/why/when this happens, too. I have successfully exported movies to full quality both before and after movies that export incorrectly. The first project that had this happen, I decided to reassemble bit by bit to find out if something specific was causing the problem. Turns out that Full Quality exporting started having this problem if I had added titles. After jumping through something like 50 hoops - exporting little pieces, reimporting, exporting just the titles, etc., etc - I managed to work around the issue. Bit of a headache but all seemed to be well.
BUT, the frozen video problem soon happened again. The next time I had this trouble exporting, there were no titles in the project at all, and the problem instead occurred once I added music. So there does not seem to be a pattern within iMovie itself. This makes me think it's either a Quicktime problem or something to do with my computer itself. I have 2GB of memory, 37GB of space left on my hard drive, and I'm running Quicktime 7.4.1 and iMovie HD 6.0.4.
Please help! I'm on a bit of a deadline, too. This is driving me crazy!

Thanks Matt. I am in the same boat as many people have obviously been in - trying to burn a DVD to a film fest deadline of tomorrow, and after 4 hours of trying to make a disk image, getting 'error during burn'.
    I have one question.
    a) In imovie, I clicked the 'create iDVD' button to create this project - which has problems burning.
    b) Now if I simply try to drag that .mov file into the iDVD pane as you suggest, is that identical to what I have done in a) - in that we're operating with the same basic animal. Of so
    c) I should try the process of exporting to .dv, reimporting to new imovie, redoing chapter markers and THEN dragging the package .mov to the iDVD pane - hoping that chapter markers are preserved.
Oh ... someone said one should try to save the .mov as a sel contained file. is that necessary?
Thank you for sitting in front of you Mac!

  • Export using Full Quality stops responding

Two times now I have experienced iMovie06 hanging (not responding) at the end of a full-quality QT export of a 40+ minute video. It actually is showing 100% done, and the resulting DV file contains everything. Just sort of disconcerting - I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this..

How much free space is on your hard drive? You might check your system.log/console.log files when this happens and see if any hints are shown. You can view your log files by using Applications>Utilities>console.app. Select the "Logs" icon and select one of the two files.

  • How do I export to DV "Full Quality" in iMovie 2009?

The old iMovie used to have a full quality export that would produce a .dv file.
Newer versions of iMovie have a "DV Stream" option, with settings (Progressive, Interlaced, Audio rate, etc.)
I want an absolute, full quality archive of my iMovie project, as sharp and perfect as I see it in iMovie. None of the DV Stream options seem to produce that. The titles look jagged, for one thing.
I want to export my iMovie project so that if I need to re-import it later into iMovie, no quality is lost. I don't care how big the files are, I want FULL QUALITY.

Thanks for breaking this down for me, Sheryl, and thanks to everyone who took time to read my quest and fire off suggestions.
I will look for the AIC export option and try to select the maximum quality settings available for it, and then hand that resulting file to my producer.
I have an old Mac with iMovie HD on it, so I will also try importing the AIC export into that and the exporting to DV, as that DV seems like it would be better quality than the DV coming out of iMovie 09. (I seem to remember doing DV exports back in 2006 and being quite happy with the results, which is why this process has been so confusing for me now.) If the producer NEEDS a DV file, I reckon that's the best I can give them right now.
The consolidate project option sounds VERY COOL. I had no idea that was possible! For working between Mac users, that might be just the ticket I need. That also sounds useful when trying to throw away all the extra, unused footage and just keep the parts of the footage that I actually ended up using, but may want to tweak titles and effects later.
Long term, it sounds like I am going to have to transition to FCE or FCP. I will go surf the Web for reviews and impressions of it. I'd be happy to hear more about people's opinions. Investing time, energy and money into a new tool does not appeal to me, but I am definitely going to need full quality DV exports sometimes (anytime we want to get our PSA on the local television channel, for one).
I guess iMovie is still useful for my mini-YouTube fun time projects, (my latest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9TrAZ4yCDQ), but it is a shame that it can't produce something in which the future-proofing is limited only by source quality, not the software's output quality.
(I don't mind limitations based on source quality, them's the breaks! But potentially losing source quality forever because of shackled software is... GAH unforgivable.)

  • Export to DV FULL QUALITY quality loss

    I'm perplexed.
In the past, I have exported to DV without a hiccup, but now I'm having troubles. I need to encode some home videos to Mpeg-2 so I have to use another method than iMovie. I want to export to DV and then encode the video with ffmpegx, Mpeg Streamclip etc... but when I export the 16x9 video "full quality" it is NOT full quality. It looks horrible. When I export it, it looks very blocky - like it's a lower resolution. Of course, when I try to covert the file to another format (in this case mpg) it retains it's "uglyness..."
But the ODD thing is if I take the "poor quality" exported DV and re-import to an iMovie project, it displays properly from within iMovie.
    Suggestions?
    Tom

Thanks again for your replies. I am using iMovie 6. Here's a couple of snapshot to see what I'm talking about.
The first shot is a capture directly from the .mov reference file within the iMovie file package.
    http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2332/1799517306181c3840eeo.png
You can see the girl's legs are a little blurry, but with the video running it looks fine.
The second shot is a capture from a full quality .DV export as viewed in VLC. Is that an interlacing issue? The ridges are viewable at all times as objects are in motion in the video

Thanks for your comments about the high quality checkbox. It helps, but doesn't solve the issue.
Also, I double checked the frame rate and they are both all 29.97.

  • *** Quicktime export stutters

This is the first time I'm running into this problem. I am trying to export a full-quality quicktime file of my HDV project and each time I create the self-contained file, the playback is jittery. I've tried re-starting FCP and my computer, I've trashed the render files and re-rendered and it sill happens.
Has anyone had this issue before? Is there an alternative method I can use to archive (other than printing back to tape, b/c that's a whole other host of problems). Is there something I can do to fix this?
    Thanks in advance!

What drive are you playing it off?
The scratch discs are set to an external HD but the main file was exported to my desktop.
Is it being played in the QT Pro Player?
    Yes, QT Pro

  • IMovie crash during Quicktime export

I have a dual G4 tower w/ OS X 10.4, and iMovie HD 6. I've got all the latest software updates installed.
I imported some video off of my Canon Elura 100, made a few edits and tried to export it as quicktime. I tried all the different quality settings, incl. expert/advanced. All but the "full quality" (.dv) export causes iMovie to crash.
Does anyone have any recommendations on how to resolve this?
    Dual G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi jh:
    Welcome to discussions!
Do you have the most up-to-date QuickTime version installed? If not, try installing and if so, try re-installing it.

  • Is there something inbetween CD-ROM and FULL QUALITY??

When it's time to share my movie, is there something inbetween CD-ROM and FULL QUALITY? CD-ROM is 163 MB and FULL QUALITY is 6 GB. I know I can choose EXPERT SETTINGS, but I always get a huge file and would like to know if anyone out there knows of a good setting in Expert Setting that isn't as big as FULL QUALITY but is better than the CD-ROM setting.
    Thanks!@

You don't want viewers trying to download a 6GB file. It's (.dv) not for Web use.
You would probably be best with a 320X240 .mov file as they will fit the page content of a blog better than a 640X480 size and will also be about 4 times smaller in file size.
Make a one minute "Full Quality QuickTime" (.dv) from your current Project. Use a scene that has medium amount of video motion.
Use that .dv file in a new "test" iMovie Project.
    Export using Expert Settings
    Choose Movie to QuickTime Movie
Click the "Options" button and choose H.264 Video codec and AAC audio
Adjust the data rate and the audio quality and export 4 different files using slightly different settings
Compare these new files using QuickTime Player
You'll quickly figure out what settings work best for your file. Compare file size to video and audio quality. Web viewers are used to low quality video (YouTube as proof) and really like smaller file sizes over quality.
You could continue testing using MPEG-4 Video codec (instead of H.264) as it has a higher installed user base so more viewers could view your file.
