Digital Output problem once again (WIN XP, Audigy

I searched the forums with no luck, actually I searched the whole internet with no luck - so far.
My problems in a nutcase:
- I can't find the button for Digital Output (the one which enables it, Windows XP's sound mixer used to have that option with some ?windows build?, but I can't find it since I installed creative drivers, it's just gone...).
- If I find the digital output on-button with your help, is it even possible hear music with add-ons trough digital-optical cable or should I buy some mono-cable? :O
To be specific:
I have the Creative Audigy 4 Bulk, which of course supports SPDIF Digital output. I bought expesi've optical cable that I could finally use my hifi 5. speakers with movies trought computer. I have new 700 euro amplifier, and it supports everything, so the problem isn't with that one, anyways, let's get touch with the real problem.
What ever drivers I'm using, I can't find the digital output section anywhere. Creative drivers has one SPDIF-button, but it affects nowhere. So, I can't even get the Digital Sound on, because windows mixer has no button for that with my windows xp, weird. I also tried to install windows vista, and there wasn't either any options, where I could put the digital output on.
Which drivers and which add-ons should I install to get that Digital Output to work.
If I manage to find the button for digital output from some drivers, can I also listen music while it's connected via optical-digital cable, or am I just able to hear sound from dolby digital movies? Is it even possible to get everything work with my optical cable (music/games and movies at the same time).

. Your card doesn't have optical output, only "coaxial" digital. You will need a stereo (or camcorder) cable with one mini jack on one end and 2 (or 3) RCA connectors on the other. The white RCA will be the one you need.
The setting is on the "Creative AudioHQ" at the "Surround Mixer" selection. It is called "Digital Output Only". Or if you use the little icon on the taskbar, at the "Speakers" on "Speaker Selection" you have the same option (a check mark under the selection of speakers).
2. If you read the FAQ, you will get surround sound (5.) ONLY from DVD-Video that are encoded in DolbyDigital or DTS and ONLY if you pass-trough the digital signal to the receiver to do the decoding. In ALL other cases you will get STEREO PCM signal.
3. If your receiver is a decent one you should have an analog surround input (5. analog input). in that one you can plug the analog outputs from your card in order to have surround sound all the time (like in the games).

• Digital output problem with new Audigy 2 driv

I updated to the 02.08.0004 drivers today and everything seemed fine till after I calibrated my speakers within speaker settings. I have Z680s hooked up to a Audigy 2 PCI card using both digital out and analog. As with previous drivers I calibrated using 6 Channel direct input.
Anyway, the problem is that when I use windows media player or any other media app, with the speakers set to Coax input (digital) I get the sound coming from the rear 2 speakers, instead of through the front 2 as it should. However, this only happens if I choose a speaker calibration under speaker settings.
It's a bit annoying because I didn't have this problem before. Anyone else have this problem or a solution? Or is it a case of Rolling back to an old driver and hoping the problem doesn't stick?
Thanks

Anyone have any ideas?

I am here trying to create a hierarchy structure. the idea behind it is as following
if we start-off with List_ID = A11-1 and List_model = 1, then we are going to have the have the following children associated with it
A22-2, A33-3 and A55-5
now, these children have children of their own and the idea is to look in the t2_concept table to determine the latest list_model and utilize it in the recursion, so in this case if you look at t2_concept for A44-4 it has a max_list_model of A and we are then going to go back to t1_concept and determine all the associated children for A44-4 which are B22-2, B33-3 and B44-4 and we continue with this approach till the end.
this is output I want by the way
LEVEL List_ID
1 A22-2
1 A33-3
1 A44-4
2 B22-2
2 B33-3
2 B44-4
1 A55-5
2 C11-1
2 C22-2I know things would have been easier with a good normalized table design. however unfortunately, I am taking over another programmer works and I am trying to look for a good solution.

Hi,
If you can't normalize the tables in reality, you can normalize them on the fly, like this:
WITH joined_data AS
SELECT t1.*
, t2.max_list_model
FROM t1_concept t1
LEFT OUTER JOIN t2_concept t2 ON t1.list_num = t2.list_num
-- WHERE ... -- If you have other filtering, do as much as possible here
SELECT LEVEL
, list_num
FROM joined_data j
START WITH list_id IN ('A11-11') -- Or any given values
CONNECT BY list_id = PRIOR list_num
AND        list_model     >= PRIOR max_list_model
ORDER SIBLINGS BY list_num
;You may not need a sub-query; joins are done before START WITH and CONNECT BY, but it's often faster if you do the joins in a separate sub-query.
Is the problem here that, for purposes of this query, you don't want to consider 'B11-1' to be a child of 'A44-4' because list_model > list_num? That's what the 2nd condition in the CONNECT BY clause is doing. The query above produces the results you want, but the condition I posted looks backwards to me.
Edited by: Frank Kulash on Aug 16, 2011 2:37 PM
Mystery solved: list_model and max_list_model are strings, so '8' is greater than '13'.
The following works for the sample data already given:
WITH joined_data AS
SELECT t1.*
, t2.max_list_model
FROM t1_concept t1
LEFT OUTER JOIN t2_concept t2 ON t1.list_num = t2.list_num
-- WHERE ... -- If you have other filtering, do as much as possible here
SELECT LEVEL
, list_num
FROM joined_data j
START WITH list_id IN ('A11-11') -- Or any given values
CONNECT BY list_id = PRIOR list_num
AND LPAD ( list_model -- This condition has been changed
, 1000
)     <= PRIOR LPAD (max_list_model, 1000)
ORDER SIBLINGS BY list_num
;and it may even work in your real data. (I have no way of knowing yet.)

• A Windows problem once again

I just made a post earlier about having issues with my hard drive. BOSS was a huge help. Anyways, I am in another dilemma that I have been through before. For some wild and crazy reason, I decided to do a complete re-install of Windows XP. My XP cd is about 6 years old so it does not have SP2. I must tell you that I had issues installing windows before. The first round, I was having a problem that when windows xp was going to install for the first time, my machine would just urn off right when it began downloading files in the windows setup screen. I narrowed it down before by taking out one of my sticks of ram. After I took out one of the sticks or ram, it seemed to install fine. So I returned both sticks (because they were a pair) after I got windows working and updated. Now, after I reformatted my Hard drive and going for a fresh install, I am having the same problem (my machine is turning off on windows installation screen). At one point, I even got passed the "Enter serial key" and then it turned off shortly thereafter. Is there any chance that I got yet another bad stick of ram? I have tried swapping them out to see if one would work but no luck. Or could I just have a bad XP CD (Being that it is 6 years old and not up to date with all the new components).? Any ideas? Thanks a bunch for any help you may have.
My Machine is listed below.
Case: Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Power Supply: Thermaltake W0106RU Complies with ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V version 700W Power Supply 100 - 240 V CE, CB, TUV, FCC, UL, CUL, and BSMI certified

Hard Drive: Western Digital 320 GB SATA, 8MB Buffer, 7200RPM

I'm at work at the moment, I will get those specs to you later. I have also been reading through all of the other posts about people having the same problem. I have tried most everything they have tried to resolve this issue. I am starting to see a trend in brand of Memory (Corsair XMS2). I may take the memory back today and exchange it for another brand. Good thing Fry' is a mile from my house. I only have until tomorrow to make the return, then my 15 days for return are up on the ram. My biggest concern would be the motherboard, which would be a huge headache. Is anyone using the MSI P7N SLI PLatinum Mobo and working just fine? If so, what are the specs?

• The infamous "Capture encountered a problem" once again

Hi all, I'm sorry to bother you with an often discussed issue but I haven't found any solution yet, it's driving me crazy and I desperately need someone's help.
"Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and your clip has been saved"
This problem occurs only seconds after starting the capturing process. Regardless of where on the tape I start. My camera is a Canon XL1s, but I also encounter the capture problems with my Sony consumer cam.
Ok, what have I tried so far:
- capturing the footage using the "non-controllable device" setting.
- Preferences - advanced - switch off the "abort when dropped frames etc" setting
- replaced the Firewire cable
- using iMovie to capture This seems to go well, but after the capture the program crashes.
Any other suggestions? I have to mention that I have used the "movie" setting on my camera. This similar to the "progressive" mode on Panasonic cameras.
Thanks a lot for your help
Siebe

Are you using capture now? I found I get the best result by logging the clips first.. making sure the "in" setting is at least a few seconds in from any possible glitch in the tape (new scene or blue screen) and using batch capture.
This also seems to work better on one of my cameras than the others with the same tape.. so try it on both..
Dont know if that will work for you.. but its the best I was able to come up with for me!

• New Dell, Audigy MB Advanced has no "enable digital output" b

Hey all.
I have a brand new Dell Dimension 550 system, on which I ordered the Audigy MB Advanced.
Actually I intended to get the X-Fi Music soundcard, but apparently spaced out and clicked the wrong thing. Bummer for me. Oh well I'll buy it later.
Anyway I have no digital sound from my speakers, which are Boston Acoustics Digital MediaTheater. This is the 4. setup that came with my '98 Gateway G6-450, back when BA and Gateway were partners. These are *not* some of the speakers (I think like their 735 series) that require digital drivers. It's either a single analog cable, or a single digital cable, to run the full 4. setup, from the subwoofer plugged into the PC.
Analog sound works fine, but I cannot get digital to work. The problem lies, I believe, in that I don't think the software recognizes that digital output is possible. Again, this is the OE soundcard, but it has the blue input port, the green output one, the pink/grey microphone/rear surround output, and also a yellow and black port, which are for surround connections (that I don't need).
I will be upgrading to a better soundcard, but for now I just want digital to work. This is a common issue with people going from Win98 to XP, it seems, but... though I've found a post or two on this forum, the FAQ on BA's site, and some stuff via Dell and the Web, I really can't figure this out.
I've run the BIOS sound test, that checked out. No control panel option works to get digital output working, and I've confirmed with Dell that digital output should be an option. Should be able to click on Volume Control in the taskbar, which brings up the Creative Surround Mixer. From there, click Speaker Settings. I have Speaker/Headphone Selection set to 4/4. and the "Synchronize with Control Panel" box checked. Below that should be at least one more box, including "Enable Digital Output" or similar. But it's not present at all. Blank.
I don't know if a software reinstall would work or not. Anybody know what's up, here?
Thanks!
=S2=

I've recieved a reply from Support telling me to email Dell, but from seeing other posts and topics, I have seen that this is useless. Most of the other people who have encountered this problem have resolved it via Creative not Dell.....Why do I have to go to Dell? Argh ?Thanks for the reply though :\

• Solution to my Audigy 4 Digital Output probs... please make a stic

I was recently playing Q3TA with my son when my overheat protection kicked in. I exited to windows to see the temp and throttle back my CPU a tad, and when I returned I had no sound from my digital output. Analog was working fine, however.
Setup:
Giga-byte GA-MA78GM-S2H w/780g chipset
Athlon 64 X2 5000+ BE
Integrated Realtek HD audio (disabled)
Integrated ATI HD 3200
2xGB 800MHZ DDR2
Creative Audigy 4
Boston acoustics Digital BA735 2. speakers
I went over every setting in all of my consoles, HQ's and drivers. I played with driver versions, DirectX versions, diagnostic programs and procedures in the knowledge base. In defeat, I even wiped out my XP install and started fresh with the Aud-4 removed, using analog on the integrated card thru headphones. Then I disabled the integrated card and reinstalled the Audigy 4 only to find that there was still no sound from the digital speakers.
Solution?
I[color="#ff0000"] unplugged the power to my speakers, and reconnected everything. As soon as the power was back up, the sound started playing (I had a .MP3 on for testing).
This stumped me for two reasons that occur to me know:
. These speakers (and possibly many others) don't fully power down when you turn the volume knob off and the light on the satellites goes out. The decoder and subwoofer unit keep their light on.
2. Apparently, some situations introduce a faulty signal to the digital output that scrambles the speaker units and they refuse to operate any longer.
Now I know, unplug the power to my speakers. My system works on all three sampling frequencies in "audio console" 44., 48, and 96KHz. None of the troubleshooting procedures touched my problem, because they didn't even mention the speaker setup, let alone doing a hard reset.
Please please please!
Make this a sticky for future me!!!

The Digital output jack on the card isn't of optical signal type.....you will need to get those I/O module mention bt johnston2 for optical connection.

• AUDIGY 2NX DIGITAL OUTPUT PROB

I purchased Audigy 2nx USB box and i'm using it for playing my musical instrument connected through line-in. Now the SPDIF coaxial output is not functioning when line-in inputs are used and the second problem is when the line-in input is used the EAX effects are not functioning for line-input source. So is there any solution for this two problems?

No one knows where:

Definately frustrating.

• How to disable SP-DIF (digital) output on Audigy

Hi, I am using Audigy 2 soundcard connected to Altec Lansing ADA885 speakers. These speakers have built-in Dolby Digital Decoder, and of course SPDIF input for this. Additionally, they have inputs for analog front and rear speakers signal. They can be switched to different operation modes : Dolby Digital decoding, Dolby ProLogic decoding, stereo, and quad modes. I have connected them to my Audigy 2 using analog connections, and also digital output. The problem is, that they process both kind of inputs (analog and digital) all the time in most modes simultaneously. For example, when I set them to "quad" mode (for gaming) they process analog signal that Audigy deli'vers them, but also they attempt to decode the signal from digital input. This produces some kind of phase distortions (basses dissappear and the sound becomes slightly muffled). Possible solutions could be : - disable digital decoding in speakers when using analog output from Audigy - this can't be done, these speakers' decoder is not configurable, - disconnect digital cable when using analog output from Audigy - obvious solution, however not very comfortable - disable "ON-DEMAND" spdif output on Audigy card and enable it when necessary. This would be most satisfying option for me. But.... is it possible at all ? Just something similar to the "Digital output only" setting in soundcard panel, but in my case i'd like to have an option of "Analog outputs only". Thanks in advance for any help Greetings, Martin

• Dtt3500 and Audigy Gamer, digital output only 2 channel unless its D

Ok I recieved a response concerning my last comment but unfortunatly it did not answer my question at all. I have a DTT3500 and a sound blaster Audigy Gamer hooked up with the digital out to the /8 din adapter. I try the advanced 3d demo that came with the Audigy software and I only hear the front 2 channels, no center and no rears. The demo where you move the little icons and sound moves along with it. I have 5. activated in my windows control center along with audioHQ and digital out only is selected. my DTT3500 has 4./5. digital selected along with dolby digital/pcm audio and digital in. I am not getting the effect of multisurround at all. My center works and my rears work because playing music I can use all 5 speakers. When I use the analogue outputs I hear multisurround from the advanced 3d demo but my center doesnt work. The analogue setup sounds better but without a center channel its useless to me. Am I doing something wrong? I am using the adapter and digital DIN, what gives? The only reason I noticed I wasnt getting surround was while playing games nothing comes from behind you even on 5. games. The goldmine demo doesnt even work right, when the bird flys behind you it disappears but there is still sound from the rears. Analogue fixes this without a center but the manual and setup say to use the digital din. Do I just have a setting wrong? I would like to experiance the full capacity of multispeakers in my games.

Dennis,
With these speakers the connection that I would suggest would be to use the Digital out on the back of the sound card into the DIN Input on the DTT3500's. This will require a converter cable for /8'' Minidin to standard DIN which can be purchased from here:
http://us.creative.com/products/prod...0&product=0375
You will also need a standard DIN cable (one should have shipped with your DTT3500's).
This should give you 5. with digital output only enabled on the Audigy.

• How do I output three digital waveforms at once?

I posted this in Digital I/O, but now I think it's actually more appropriate here because it's not a hardware question. I need to output three digital waveforms at a relatively low frequency, 71.9 Hz. I have a PCI DAQ card, the 6024E and am using the NI-DAQmx functions to try to do this. My program basically generates the square wave that I want, and converts it into a digital wave. I do this 3 times for the three separate waves, and then I combine them into an array and send them to my DAQ functions, which are in a while loop so I can get continuous output. My problem is that the waveform that the DAQ is actually outputting is not what I want. It's outputting a wave that has the same duty cycle (approximately) but the frequency is over 2 kilohertz. It's not like this all the time; after it outputs about 7 cycles of this wave, it goes to logic low for a long time, and then repeats itself. When I probe the digital waveform right before it goes into the DAQ functions, it's running correctly at 71.9 Hertz. Am I doing anything wrong with the DAQ functions or the sampling information? Thanks in advance.

Hello Josh,
I'm pretty sure that the reason that your digital waveforms are not being produced at the correct frequency is because your digital output is not associated with any sort of timing. Unfortunately, with an E series board you can only do software timed digital operations. This means that the frequency at which the values on your digital lines will be updated depends on how fast/often your computer executes the DAQmx Write that is inside of your while loop. If you have an M series board, you can actually correlate the DIO operations with another subsytems clock (AI/AO sample clock, etc.) which means that you can acheive hardware-timed DIO. In the event that you do not have access to an M series board, I think that AnalogKid2DigitalMan was spot on that you would want to use counters to generate pulse trains (that is if your digital waveforms have a constant duty cycle and period). Depending on what the DAQ board is outputting to, you might also want to consider using the Analog Output channels to generate your digital waveform. As long as you continue to use the digital lines on the 6024E, there is not really a way to guarantee the timing of when the digital lines will be updated. You might be able to get close, but you will probably see some "hiccups", especially if your computer needs to service interrupts or give processing time to another application. And lastly, heed geckoee's advice and don't forget to properly close out your tasks! Putting in some error handling may also help in the debugging process.

• Problem with digital output and microph

Hello! I recently bought a new motherboard MSI K8N SLI Platinum that have onboard Sounblaster Li've 24bit, with coaxial and spdif and also the standard outputs. I ve connected via a fiber optical cable to my amplifier and i checked the digital output only box to the advanced settings on the mixer. I am hearing sound very well from my amplifier but when i connect headphones to with microphone to my soundcard , i don't hear anything at all from my headphones. Also i cannot speak via microphone. If i uncheck the box digital output only i hear sound from my headphones and also i can speak to microphone. Is there some way to have them both enabled? In my previous motherboard i didn't have that problem. I could hear sound from my amplifier with pcm signal and from my headphones and microphone analog at the same time.
Thanks!

Thibaud,
The clue is here: " i take acquisition with one sample on demand."
You are apparently using software timed output. To maintain accurate phasing at 80 Hz you need timing which is accurate to better than 4 milliseconds. This is not likely to occur with a desktop operating system. Sometimes it will be good and other times OS latencies will throw the timing way off.
If your board supports it, use hardware timing. The timebase sources on most boards are far more precise and accurate than software timing.
