Digital Performer 5 on an iMac running 10.4.

I upgraded my MacBook Pro last summer.  This resulted in me losing the use of a lot of Power PC programs.  Digital Performer 5 was one of them.  I need it now, and I'm trying to install it on my older iMac running 10.4.  Unfortunately, the mac says the disc is blank and opens the blank disc dialog box.  I have a disc for Performer 4 as well, so I tried that one.  I get the same thing.  What can I do to get the computer to recognize the disc for what it is (an installation disc)?  Thank you!

It could be that particular disc is marginal in that particular computer.  Other discs may be just okay in that computer, and that disc may be just okay in other computers.  One solution would be to duplicate it and burn it to a new CD.  Select a slow burn speed to get a good burn.
Kappy's post: Duplicate a CD or DVD - http://discussions.apple.com/message/8965494
Another solution might be to put the installer files onto a flash drive, or even create a disc image of the disc onto  a flash drive and use that mounted image to install on the computer.  What is necessary will depend upon the nature and degree of security the installer uses.
If it absolutely insists upon using it from that disc, you could even try putting the new computer into Target disk mode and borrowing its optical drive.  There's also drive sharing but I would have to check if that works with Leopard OS.

hi alan i run a business on ebay selling photos and negs. i recently installed yosemite and it locked my entire library on iphoto. when i try to download the app to free it from ishop it tells me there is a fault with the app and my  iphoto is frozen. i am basically out of work and finding it very hard to find someone who can help me unlock it.. look at the things being said about this yosemite  locking this.....freezing that... be very careful if you need your business for your livelyhood. the actual performance is really good.....better display ...much faster and well presented but is it worth having parts of your compy put out of action i possibly think not. i am new to this community so hopefully someone reading this may be able to advise us both.....paul

  • Syncing Logic with Digital Performer

    Hi,
Our current set-up is a G5 PPC running Logic 8, with MIDI sent over LAN to a MacPro running Digital Performer. DP runs a host of virtual instruments (MachFive, EZDrummer etc.) with the audio output routed back to Logic. The question we have is how we can get DP to 'see' the tempo of the Logic project - so as we can run tempo related VI's such as Albino. Currently we still run any VI that follows the projects tempo in Logic - but would ultimately like to have DP running every software instrument.
I imagine that there is a simple MIDI command that we send from Logic to DP that will make DP follow the tempo of the track - I have asked this question on the Digital Performer boards but wanted to ask Logic users what settings I should be using in Logic itself (Midi Beat Clock/SMPTE etc.)
    Thanks
    Jack

So far, here's what I found.
1.) iPhone is really made pair with one computer only.
2.) It seems to treat an iTunes library (meaning anything in there) as one library and even selectively syncing will erase the parts of the library you don't want to sync.
3.) Best work around seems to be to email yourself the smaller data elements that need to be sync'd to the computer with the complete iTunes library of media. (Export contact cards, backup calendar, export bookmarks... and bring them to the media computer)
4.) Photos from previously sync'd iPhoto library do stay separate and do not get erased when syncing to another computer.
At this point, I'm not sure what happens when I add events and contacts via the iPhone. I would ASSUME that when I go resync to the same computer they'll update eachother... But if I've deleted a few contacts and changed things, I hope it knows to give the iPhone priority...
Any other thoughts on this would be appreciated

  • Digital Performer 4.61

The only app. I seem to have problems with is MOTU Digital Performer. It loads OK and you can start using it but more often than not it 'unexpectedly quits' I used it on a Dual G4 machine with no problems but it is quite unusable on thie Intel iMac. Can anyone confirm that this is the case or is it just me!!
    Cheers
    Steve

    Cheers Steve.
Can you elaborate a bit about what your version of D.P. is?
Also... what are you using for hardware?
A soundcard? Or do you have a Firewire connection?
I use D.P. 4.61 and I use the MOTU 828 for an interface.
I think I might be able to help you out if I had more information about your particular set up.
    Don't hesitate to be detailed.

  • Logic7.1 with Digital Performer

Anybody using both on the same computer. And is it problem free. That,s Logic7.2 and Digital Performer.

Are you asking about using both at the same time or just having both installed on the same machine?
If it is the former then there are some issues you will run into is if you open a VI on DP Logic will think it found a new midi port and tell you so. You will also have to create an aux track in DP to get the audio in and also use something like soundflower to route the audio.
The other drawback is Logic only uses one processor (or audio stream) when just being used as a live VI host.

  • HT4914 I want to transfer my entire iTunes "folder" from a newer iMac 3.06 GHz Core 2 machine running iTunes 10.7 to an older iMac running OSx 10.5.8. How best to do this and keep all my data, tags and covers in tact?

I want to transfer my entire iTunes "folder" from a newer iMac 3.06 GHz Core 2 machine running iTunes 10.7 to an older iMac running OSx 10.5.8. How best to do this and keep all my data, tags and covers in tact?

Firstly, time to get rid of the 2 x 512MB FBDIMMs in there, they add more heat and use more watts then they add to the system. If you need more, and 4 or 8 DIMMs is ideal, Amazon has 2x2GB sets $22 - about 1/50th what I paid for 1GB new.
    Buy a 250GB Samsung EVO SSD $129
Pick up Carbon Copy Cloner http://www.bombich.com to clone the system to the SSD
A sled adapter for the SSD from Icy Dock $14 Amazon.com
7-8 years overdue for new system drive! amazed it lasted this long. An SSD plus some WD Black 2TB drives or larger should do the trick.
you can also put the SSD in the lower optical drive bay and use one of the two ODD "spare" SATA ports for the SSD - an SSD is the best way to improve the performance of our old Mac Pro 2006-7 models.
When you downloaded the Lion installer that was when to create a flash type installer with Lion DiskMaker.
If you have put in a new-ish graphic card then OS X 10.6.0 may not support it.

Just downloaded FACETIME on my 4yr. olf Imac running Snow Leopard. When making a call to my friend's Imac all works correctly going both ways. When my wife calls me via Facetime from her Ipad, I cannot click on "accept"- not there? When called by the Imac (newest), the "accept" or "reject" radio button appears for me to click and connect. On my wife's Ipad the two radio buttons always appear when a call actiivates Facetime and comes on?
There is nothing I can find in "Preferences" in Facetime to turn that on or off. I suspect it has to do with having a more current operating system; that the "controls" are in the operating system? [I'm guessing] It's frustrating getting Facebook calls from several friends on Ipads! Any ideas...VFP

I suspect it has to do with not having a more current operating system
Exactly, what Apple is doing is leveraging new features only on newer OS X versions to force you to upgrade OS X to 10.7 or later.
What they don't tell you is 10.7 or later will NOT run your PowerPC based software, some of it you can't get Intel versions like for perfectly working printers, scanners and games etc. So it can be a very expensive OS X upgrade to 10.7 or later with third party software.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also they don't tell you is the risk in bricking your machine if the update goes badly, so you have to have AppleCare in case that occurs so it's on them to fix it. Else your paying money to replace the logicboard or buying a new machine prematurely.
A four year old machine can't have AppleCare, it's only good for 3 years from date of purchase new.
Your machine came with a boot hard drive, it's usually got about 4-5 years of life on it, then it needs to be replaced.
Also they don't tell you the newer OS X version has more abilities and features that causes your machine to slow down in performance, especially on older machines.
Also they implement new, idotic and extremely fustrating new user interface features in a arbitrary "you take it or leave it" manner with little or no fall back method.
So upgrading OS X is a gamble on older machines that otherwise would likely work perfectly fine for the next 5 years if one didn't need to have to mess with it.
Since Snow Leopard has slightly over 25% OS X version market share, your still good for security updates etc for the next few years if you just want to stay where your at and be happy.
OS X 10.4/10.5 need to upgrade, 10.6.8 ok still
The Lions are, well, not so welcome due to Scott Forstall retard UI issues, OS X Mavericks 10.9 is likely going to fix things a bit better.
But basically what is occuring is Apple is trying to force a faster hardware upgrade cycle with the more expensive products by leveraging features on the smaller devices that expire sooner.
Apple is a hardware company that leverages whatever it can to get you to buy more hardware, it's why they are as rich as they are.

  • I have a digital performer file created on os9 that wont open in OSX the file looks like a unix file.

Is there a way to convert old os9 files so OSX can use them? The only apps that will open it is Text edit and Terminal.
    jimi

Many document types created in OS 9 apps are openeable in OS X, depending on the OS X version.
For example, AppleWorks 6 documents are usable directly in OS X by using the OS X version of AppleWorks 6 (runs in all versions of OS X except Lion). In addition, AW6 text docs and spreadsheet docs can be opened in Pages and Numbers, respectively, in all versions of OS X.
Image files from OS 9 (jpeg, tiff, etc.) are openable by most image-capable apps in OS X.
As for a Digital Performer file, its format is probably proprietary; if that's the case, you'll need to acquire the OS X version of that app in order to open/use it in OS X.
If it's the program itself you talking about, rather than a document created by it -
No OS 9 app can be used directly in OS X, and such an app will often be reported by OS X as being a Unix executable.
In some versions of OS X (OS X 10.4 and earlier) OS 9 (9.1 minimum, 9.2.x is best) can be used as Classic in order to provide an environment in which many (but not all) OS 9 programs can be used. OS X 10.5 and later do not support Classic.

  • Can Internet Explorer (IE) be downloaded to and used on the late 2008 model of iMac running OS X 1.9.5?

Can Internet Explorer (IE) be downloaded to and used on the late 2008 model of iMac running OS X 1.9.5? If yes, where can it be downloaded from?

Only if you run Windows. IE does not work on a Mac without Windows.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Logic Pro 8 problem on new iMac running 10.6.7

    I just purchased a new iMac (3.2 Ghz core i3) running 10.6.7
I have ran all the system updates.
I have migrated Logic Pro 8.0.2 from my old iMac (running os 10.4.11).
I have also performed a clean install of Logic Pro and am still having same issue, which is:
When trying to open Logic, it starts to load various AUs, and other startup items, and then simply "quits." I have de-installed all my 3rd party products. This install of logic is an upgrade from Logic 7, upgraded from logic 6.
Any thoughts on why it is not running? (PS. none of the apps from the Logic Suite are running, ie... Soundtrack, comressor, etc...)

    Hi
Did you do all the "ProApplications" support downloads after you installed Logic?
Also .... maybe this could be the issue with a migration???

  • Will iMac running Snow Leopard support an iPad2 running io8?

I have been using a USB cable to sync my wife's iPhone5 and my iPad2 with my iMac running Snow Leopard. (It's a 1st gen Intel iMac and I can't go any farther with OSX versions.) Until this week, I have never had a problem syncing our devices with the iMac. However, when I went to hook up the iPad, it forced me to download a software update for ios7. Looked like everything was fine, though slow in downloading, when I got received an error message (unknown error) that crashed the iPad.
MY only option at that point was to perform a Restore and Update from the backup on my iMac, which I did. However, the update forced ios8 onto my iPad and wiped out all downloaded photos, music, apps and books. When I go to sync the iPad, all of the settings on iTunes look correct, but the sync button is greyed out and I am not able to download any of the aforementioned files from the iMac to my iPad.
Help! Is there something I can do to fix this without having to schlep into an Apple Store, where I will be made to feel technologically stupid and inferior by a Genius? Or is the problem that my iMac running Snow Leopard can no longer support the devices running iOs8?

You could've backed up your iPad prior to the "forced" upgrade which, by the way, you could have cancelled. iTunes doesn't upgrade your iPad, automatically, on its own. You had to click the Upgrade button to initiate the upgrade. You didn't have to do anything with that button. You can just leave it be.
iOS 8 is garbage on iPad 2 and 3 and even though iTunes keeps giving me the Update button option, I continually choose to ignore it.
Ignoring the Upgrade/Update button doesn't affect the normal iTunes/iDevice syncing/backing up operations.
You could've just left that button alone.
When was the last time you backed up your iPad?
While there is no way way to revert to a previous iOS version once you upgrade your iDevices iOS, iTunes saves multiple backups of your iDevice and if you backed up your iPad previously to this latest activity, you should be able to restore your iPad from an older  backup that should appear by date when  you plug your iDevice into your Mac, was for iTunes to launch and sync your iPad, then cancel the backup in progress and use the Restore function in iTunes to restore your iDevice from another previous backup version date.
If your current version of iTunes doesn't recognize your iPad2 under iOS 8, you need to check the iTunes update feature, in iTunes or in OS X Software Update feature in OS X Preferences panel to see if there is a iTunes update available for OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
