Digital Photo Software suggestions

I bought my iMac a little over a year ago. While iPhoto is great for syncing my digital photos to my iPhone, I do not see any way for iPhoto to help me clean up the pictures I take. Need software for red eye, blurry, re-size, orient – straightened, ect. I've looked at the Apple store and there is a long list of programs to buy. Without breaking the bank, any suggestions on a solid photo software? -- Thanks for any help

Have you tried the editing features of iPhoto?

  • Trouble installing Digital Photo Professional and other Canon software

    Hello everyone,
I have been trying to install several software programs on a new iMac without any success. My machine is the 20" Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X 10.4.8. I am attempting to install Canon's Digital Photo Professional version 1.0 and the EOS Digital Solutions version 7.0 (original equipment with my 1D mkII - will upgrade after installation). During the installation of DPP the process will stop while "configuring installation". I then receive a message that "There were errors installing the software. Please try installing again."
When operating the Canon EOS Digital Installer on the Solutions disk I receive the message "Not authorized to write to this folder".
As I am attempting to install this software under the administrative account, the error message for the Solutions disk puzzles me.
Does anyone have any ideas about what the problem is or where to begin troubleshooting?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Kevin

You may need to download the latest version (2.2.2).
It runs fine on my iMac C2D. Version 2.2.2 is also Universal Binary.
The only hitch you may have is the upgrade checks for an installed version. I'm not sure if it will accept the CD as an upgrade.
Where did I download it from? That I'm not certain of! I did a long search on Google & finally ran across a Japanese Canon site that had it.
If you can't install to upgrade, try installing it on a PPC Mac, install the update, then drag & drop the installed file to your new Mac.

  • I am trying to copy songs to an sd card for a digital photo frame. I changed my setting in iTunes to mp3 format before I downloaded the song but it didn't work. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions? I would be very grateful!

I am trying to copy songs to an sd card for a digital photo frame. I changed my settings in iTunes to mp3 format before I downloaded them but it did not work. What am I doing wrong? When I play the sd card in my mac or on a lenovo laptop it works but not in the photo frame. I would be grateful for any ideas as to what I am doing wrong.

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

  • Photos edited in Zoombrowser/Digital Photo Professional become over-saturated

    Hi,
I'm new to using Zoombrowser and having an issue with over-saturated photos.
I edited a photo in ZB and while in the software the photo looks like the way I took it.
But when I export the photo, it comes out more saturated even though I didn't make any changes.
This has happened to other photos also, so it can't be a one-time accident..
I've read online that this might be an issue with "color-space" but I don't know how to change it.
I've been using sRGB on the Camera and ZB...what else should I check?
Also, this happens with Digital Photo Professional also.
    Thanks.
    Raj.

    Hi,
Yes, I am using different viewers...in ZoomBrowser/DPP the photo looks ok...in Windows Viewer/Facebook the photo comes out over-saturated.
I thought it might be an issue with the different viewers...but when I was using Lightroom to edit, there wasn't this much of a difference...so I thought I'd ask.
I don't see a difference when I export from DPP and bring it back up on DPP.  But, I'd like to be sure the exported photo will look (for the most part) the way it looked before I export...at least on my computer.
Any chance I need to calibrate my monitor or play around with settings in ZoomBrowser/DPP?
Thanks for your questions and suggestions.

  • Is there a work-around to enable Digital Photo Pro on the Microsoft Surface Pro ????

Is there a way to use Digital Photo Pro on the Microsoft Surface Pro?
As I understand the problem  DPP is unable detect the screen resolution of the tablet ( the defauilt res of the tablet
    is 1920 x1080) with a minimum of 1024 x768.
It would be usful if one could type in your working screen res into at startup if that's the only problem
___I've looked at other screen drivers from Intell but I realize if I could install thrm I'de lose the touch functionallity
Are there any other ideas out there???
    Thanks  artB

Canon DPP is Canon provided application for desktop/laptop computers and they don't have a version for any tablets as far as I'm aware (not even iOS or Android versions).
But there are other photo editing programs that would work.  I have an iPad.  While Apple has their own photo software (which isn't going to work on a Windows tablet) Adobe has an app called PS Touch.
PS Touch isn't nearly as full featured as Photoshop.  It limits the image resolution (it resizes any images that you import to it so they don't exceed the max resolution) but it does have most of the commonly used adjustments.  So if a person were just trying to get something out, it works in a pinch.
One other catch is that PS Touch can't deal with RAW images... so it's JPEG only.  But I can import JPEGs off the card into the iPad and then edit them -- not as well as I can if they're on a regular computer, but this is what I'ved when I'm away for a weekend with my camera.

  • How to measure the number of pixels involved in a selected area of a digital photo?

Hi everyone. I want to determine the number of pixels in an object that is part of a digital photo. I use cameras to film chunks of ice breaking away from ice cliffs or tidewater glaciers. I want to know the size of the ice chunk that my digital photographs capture. I know the width and height of the ice cliff in metres already, so I was thinking that I could convert the equivalent of 1 pixel : ? metres - this is really what I want to do. That way every time I see a chunk of ice breaking off, I can pull up the photo, outline the chunk, calculate how many pixels fill the area of ice removed by the chunk breaking off and convert to metres area 2 - thus giving me my size order. If anyone has ideas on how to do this I would really appreciate it, thanks so much community. I was thinking that Photoshop or Fireworks could help me with this, Ricky

    Hi SIlkrooster,
Thanks for responding and giving a suggestion,
I followed your approach (see attached screen shot) , Image, Image Size, and found that approximately 37 pixels = 1 centimetre. So just to be clear - if I measure a straight line with the ruler tool that is say 10cm long, I can simply do: 10 cm * 37 pixels (1cm equivalent) = 370 pixels for the straight line. Do you agree?
    Do you agree?

  • Photo Software and Apps

    Photo Software and Apps
After you have uploaded your digital photos to your computer, you are almost ready to start editing. With many options for photo editing software, the possibilities are seemingly endless. There are many different tasks and operations you can perform, to varying levels and intensities, on your photos. The software can be used for professional work, creative expression, or simply practical purposes. There is software for the average consumer all the way up to industry professionals. With the introduction of smart phones with cameras and tablets with cameras, there are now apps to do similar things on those devices.
Often times, photo editing software is going to be used for that purpose exactly; editing. In the majority of the different programs available, you will be able to do much the same actions. You may have the ability to correct your image exposure by adding light to the photo or taking away light, and making it darker. There are many options for adjusting your color in the photo by tinting the image or changing the temperature to offer a cooler blue or maybe a warmer orange color. Some of the other functions you may find to adjust are things like contrast and saturation as well. These functions can be found in many mobile apps as well. However, not all software or apps are for editing photos. Some can be for organizational (storage and ease of access) or presentational purposes (slideshow creation).
The aforementioned are merely the tip of the iceberg to photo editing. Using apps that go deeper into the creative process and software geared toward the intermediate and above, you can create and add things to the photo rather than just alter what is already present in the image. The apps you are using through mobile devices won’t always provide you with a high-resolution final product. This is usually due to the limitations of some of the hardware from which they are being accessed. You can also purchase software to show you the basics of using your camera.
Some commonly used software and apps:
Photoshop, the most commonly used software. This software can pretty much do anything when it comes to editing digital images. Adobe also has a simpler version called Photoshop Elements that would meet the needs of most photographers.
Lightroom, this is organizational software. Simply put it is the best at what it does, and this is a must own software for any photographer. It helps organize your workflow as well as providing simple editing options.
    Aperture, Apple’s photo editing software.
Photoshop Express, the Photoshop app for your smartphone or tablet.
There are many other photo editing software and apps on the market. If downloading an app, see if there is a free version first to see if you like the app. Software companies also usually provide a free trial edition of their software.

  • Lenses not listed in the Lens Optimizer in Digital Photo Professional

As the topic title states my lenses are not listed in the Digital Lens Optimizer. I've placed the CD in the tray, and yet the program says it's connecting to the server, and when done, they are not found in the list. The lenses are:
    EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II
    EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II
Why are they not listed? How do I get them?
     DPP version 3.13.0.1
    EOS 70D / EOS Rebel t4i / EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS II / EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS II / Sigma 17-50 f2.8/ Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 macro/ Canon EF 100mm f2.8 macro/ Tamron 70-300mm / 430EX II Speedlite / Canon FS 300
Canon Pixma MG 3100 / Canon LiDE 2100
Adobe Lightroom 4, Canon DPP, Corel Paintshop Pro X4

Of the lenses I have, the following are not supported by DPP 4 (However, they are supported "in camera" with EOS Utility 3)
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II USM
    Canon EF 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
    Canon EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
    Canon EF 28-90mm f/4-5.6 USM
Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM
Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
    Canon EF 75-300mm f4.5-5.6 USM
I don't care if they are "old" lenses or not. Why have the correction profiles for "in camera" correction (when saving/converting to JPG) and not in DPP 4? They have the data, they could just port it over from the database used in EOS Utility 3.
These lens correction profiles bring new life to some of the old "film" lenses like the Canon EF 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens. That lens has lots of distortion. However with in camera correction, it now produces good pictures.
I am not a professional photographer. I am a photography enthuisasts. I'll NEVER spend $1,000.00 or more for an "L" series lens (in fact I sold the Canon 24-105 f/4 L "kit lens that came with my EOS 5D. It was way too heavy, and the zoom on the low end was cramped (only 4mm movement between 24mm and 28mm). I like/use my Canon EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM and Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM better.
Maybe my mistake is that I am using a program call Digital Photo Professional and I am not a professional. I noticed that that software leans heavily and supports the "L" series lenses.

  • ImageBrowser EX or Digital Photo Professional

    Hi,
I've just taken my first photos with a Canon 6D and downloaded the software to edit the pictures before printing.
Could someone tell me please if there will be any difference in the results I get by using ImageBrowser EX's edit function compared to Digital Photo Professional's Tool Palette.
Being a beginner, I'm only going to start by adjusting brightness, tone, saturation, contrast - so do both typs of software do this equally well?
I presume cropping (ImageBrowser) as opposed to trimming (DPP) produces the same results if i put 7 and 5 in the custom size for 7in x 5in prints.
The problem when I tried DPP was that whenever I did change something on the image like brightness and then I clicked Save As, while the new brighter version appeared in DPP, there was no sign of the new brighter version of the image in my original folder which contained all my original pictures in the Mypictures folder, nor was it in the desktop folder. And as I don't print my own images - I upload them on to Truprint's site - it's the Mypictures folder that I use to upload them all to Truprint. So I want any edited images I create to appear in Mypictures
    Thanks for any tips

Thanks Jeff,  That makes sense and I've tried the 3 variations after modifying a DPP image to give it a new recipe.
    1.  When after modifying  I just click "Save" (rather than "Save As") it doesn't offer me the opportunity to save it to anywhere.  Just the DPP image gets modified, but the folder one in Pictures hasn't changed - so I don't really see the point in that.
    2.  My first post is now out of date.  Now, after modifying when I click "Save As" to save the copy to my holiday photos folder in Pictures, I am now managing to get a copy - but still WITHOUT the modification.  While the copy in DPP does show the modification, unfortunately the new copy in the folder doesn't contain the changes.   so if I upload the folder to the Truprint printing company's website I'm ending up with 2 idential versions of the original, but nothing with my modified improvements?
    3.   So I tried Convert and Save.  Like in 2 above I got a copy.  But the copy looked like the original with none of the improvements appearing.
So I can't seem to find a way to get an improved modified image on to Truprint for printing

  • Canon Digital Photo Professional and EOS Utility not responding

Have been using both Canon DPP and EOS Utility since Dec 09 successfully. Installed Snow Leopard in Jan 2010, still worked fine. Installed Aperture 3 in August and now the Canon software keeps shutting down on me. I contacted Canon and they said it is Apples fault (since 10.6.4) andthat it is because I am running Snow Leopard.
How can this be when it worked for 4 months fine?
Is this an issue with Aperture not wnating any ohter editing software?
I have a Canon EOS 50D camera and was exporting through the Digital Photo Professional software.
thanks to anyone that can help.

  • Digital Photo Professional

    Hi,
The Canon 70d is a very nice camera that is quite new.
Will the DPP 4.1.xx software be available for it in the future?
    Thanks,

Canon has released an updated version of its Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software, which now supports – in addition to its current range of full-frame DSLRs – the EOS-1D Mark IV, EOS 70D, EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 7D, EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 700D and EOS 100D…
Launched in September 2014, Digital Photo Professional 4 was Canon’s first sweeping change to its popular RAW processing software since its original launch. The latest version of DPP – version 4.1.50 – is a response to feedback from owners of older full-frame and APS-C cameras who are looking for the very latest RAW workflow solution.
Additionally, DPP 4.1.50 supports the recently launched EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM and EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM lenses, the profiles for which are now available for use with the Lens Correction function.
Commenting on the update, Mike Owen, European Professional Imaging Communications Manager, Professional Imaging Department, Canon Europe, said: “DPP 4.0 has proved incredibly popular with our customers and this latest update further extends its appeal to a wider range of users, such as those using the highly successful EOS 5D Mark II. Canon remains firmly committed to offering a complete range of products to photographers and increasingly its software solutions are playing a vital role in delivering the ultimate in image quality from capture to output.”
    DPP 4.1.50: KEY FEATURES
    Faster, real-time adjustments.
    Improved RAW file workflow.
    Better, more approachable user interfaces.
    Compatible with 64-bit native environments.
Colour adjustments for specific colour gamuts.
Improved highlight recovery provides expanded tonality.
    Improved shadow recovery function.
    Support for movie playback.
Auto Lighting Optimizer can be applied to JPEG images.
    Better integration with EOS Utility.
You can download DPP 4.1.50 now, free of charge, from Canon Europe’s support site here. Just click on your camera – EOS-1D X, EOS-1D C, EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 6D, EOS-1D Mark IV, EOS 70D, EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 7D, EOS 700D and EOS 100D – and select DPP 4.1.50 from the software options to download.
I got it, and it seems to work. I haven't had a chance yet to see whether it fixes any of the bugs in the previous release or improves on the awkward user interface. But it does work on my 7D RAW files, which is what I badly wanted. That said, it still doesn't work on files from my wife's T2i; and since we do some photo shoots together, that remains an annoying inconvenience. I think they should just make V4 work on all .CR2 RAW files.
As of this morning, the new release is still not on the Canon USA Web site, nor is there any mention of it there.
If you haven't downloaded DPP V4 before, don't be blindsided by the fact that they make you enter the serial number of a qualifying camera. If you don't have that on your computer, you'll want to look it up ahead of time.
There's also a new release of Version 3 of EOS Utility. But it appears that the only addition is the aberration data for one or two recently released lenses.

While it does not focus solely on Digital Photo Professional, it is the one and only official Flickr Group for Canon USA. Feel free to join and contribute!
