Digital publication weight

Hello!
What is the maximum recommended weight for a digital publication?
And the weight of the app is the weight of the root directory of the project?

Thank you Scott, very interesting!

Beyond the 2GB limit for the Apple App Store, I've had a lot of users start to complain when apps are over 300MB and noticed a drop-off in downloads when folios are over 500MB. I think that has changed some since the redesign of the library with v25, but honestly, my data isn't robust enough.
My rule of thumb though, is to assume that users will be stuck between 3-5 mbps wifi connections and that anything over two minutes is going to really annoy users. That puts you at 360MB on the low end and 600 on the high end.
That all being said, if your content is great, users will often forgive larger folios. I have one in the app store now that is 1.12GB and while it sells to a niche audience, it does sell.

  • How to Update InDesign Digital Publication App for iOS Updates

I created a digital publication and put it through the DPS system for use as an app on the App Store. Customers are now reporting issues with the App after updating their iPads to newer iOS versions. Since I am not hand coding this or creating it through the usual app programs, how do I go about updating the app to work? I don't see anyway to do that through the DPS system, I upload the InDesign files to the DPS system and get the file back from Adobe. I've had this issue before and both Adobe and Apple say it's not their problem and tell me to contact the other, leaving me in the middle with no way to resolve the issue. Any help in this matter based on your experience would be helpful.

Since you used 5.5 I assume you purchased a serial number to build your application. You’ll need to contact product support and ask them to reset the serial number for you so you can rebuild the application.
Once you have the serial number you’ll need to make a new app in App Builder and upload the .zip file you have saved from Folio Producer. Then submit the updated app to Apple.

  • Is it possible to have an audio file play throughout a digital publication on iPad?

    Good afternoon!
I have been playing with the idea of having an audio track play throughout our digital publication on the iPad. I have it working now within a single article but it stops once you go to a new article. Would it be possible to have it continue playing while the user navigates through the other articles?
Thanks to everyone in the community, you have helped me through some tough problems!

  • Distribute digital publication made for iPad on dekstop pc

    Hi,
I'm doing a digital publication for iPad with the Digital Publishing Suite professional, the final target is the iPad.
my customer is asking me how people that just have a pc can see the publication, so it cames to my mind that the adobe content viewer shows a flash version of the digital publication that can actually run on a pc: is there a way to export that preview file?
the other option that comes to my mind is export everything as html but from my test all the advanced overlays (galleries, scrollable areas and so on) don't work.
    anybody have an idea?
I'm using macintosh and the distribution is within a corporate (so nothing should be public).
    thank you all.

Social sharing/web viewer is available for both Professional and Enterprise customers. Use the social sharing feature to share articles on the desktop browsers or iPad safari browser.

  • Transfer of Ownership of a Digital Publication

Being a Digital Media house, we intend to subscribe to the Professional edition of ADOBE DPS so we can start offering our clients solutions for single-issue and multi-issue publications.
My question is, if we get a client whom we publish a monthly magazine for using ADOBE DPS, and then after a year or so we have disagreements with the client (whether on cost, schedule or anything else), would it be possible to have the client themselves sign for another Adobe Professional DPS account, and then we transfer the ownership of this publication to them ?
We are trying to understand this process to help us tailor the relationship with the client in a way that protects the rights of both parties.
It would be great if you could shed some light on this.

Not currently. We are trying to build out the support for this since it comes up reasonably often, but you are better off having the client sign up for DPS Professional and then doing development with their credentials.
To land clients you could make use of Creative Cloud to do single edition apps that demonstrate/prototype the functionality and then get them excited.

I think it would be better to delete this video and do it all over again in a more fluent way. The guys on stage are hard to follow (low volume), they never heard of "Reflection" (a simple app to put the iPad's screen on the big presentation display through AirPlay), and the previewing is cumbersome (could be up and running within 2 seconds in stead of 5 minutes).

  • Submitting a Digital Publication ad (CS5) to a magazine

I am using InDesign CS5 to put together a digital ad for a magazine, and, for submission, they ask for a "Collected Adobe InDesign CS4-CC layout with all supporting fonts and image files."  This has been going fine up until last month, when the person I submitted to asked me to set it up for Digital Publishing rather than Web.  I looked all over my version, and could only find one spot where I was choosing the intent as Web, and there was not an option for Digital Publishing.  He then advised me to download and install the DPS tools to be able to create the files specifically for digital publishing.  He also sent a 200 page PDF instruction manual.  I downloaded and installed the tools, and to the best of my ability went through the PDF and came up with an exported .folio from the online Folio website.  This, however, was still not what he is looking for.  He states that all they are doing on their end is switching the intent from Web to Digital Publishing, which sounds so easy, but I just don't have that option in CS5.  Is there something I am missing?  Is what they're asking actually included in the DPS tools (ex: Folio Builder)?
    Thanks in advance.

Use Web and set it up to 1024x768.
There is no choice for Digital Publishing in CS5. It was added in CS6 and the recipient is making a mountain out of a moll hill. Web and Digital Publishing are virtually the same.

  • Converting Magazine to a Digital Publication

    I have a magazine that is 192 x 250 mm.
Do you I need to resize the pages to fit various tablets?
    For example -
Do I need to make all the pages 1024 x 768 pixels?
Using InDesign CS5.5 and Windows XP

1024x768 is the best size for iPad. For others the answer is a questionŠhow
much work are you willing to do? My advice is to let the rest of the devices
    scale that to fit.

Actually I have problem in adding music to be played across all folios, the problem happened when I just lock the ipad and open it, the publication is still opened and i can navigate it but the music is stopped, and cann't be continued. how can I fix it to be continued after opening the ipad and continue navigating the digital publication.

yes, thank you for ur answer,  but the owner of the publication which I working on said for  me that this is a problem, and we can't submit the digital publication if I can't fix it.
Is their any solution to make the audio run after the device is unlocked.

  • How much does it cost to publish a digital publishing into an app stores?

    Hey guys,
Since i started being an intern at this company I wanted to make a digital publication for them, but I have no idea how much it costs to publish it. I've googled it, searched here but I couldn't find what and how.
I would be really happy if someone could help me with this.
    Greetings Salma.

    Hi Salma,
If you have a Creative Cloud license (and Apple Developer license) you can publish as many single-edition iPad publications you want. Otherwise it costs $395 per single-edition, $495 per month for a professional edition, or there's enterprise which is upon request. See this page: http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/digital-publishing-suite-family/buying-guide-pricing.html
I would advise that you create it through InDesign and show them the publication through Adobe Content Viewer.

  • Distributing Single Edition publication privately

Hi all, thanks for looking in.
We are a very small design company (2 of us) and we are starting to get into digital publications. One of our clients is a medical company and want to use digital publications as sales aids for their sales team.
The problem we have is the publications need to be private as they contain medical data etc. We are not in a position to be able to pay for a enterprise edition of dps which will enable us to 'distribute behind a corporate firewall'.
The only way we can afford to do this is to pay for a single edition per sales aid and charge the client accordingly.
Can we produce and distribute a single edition publication privately? or put some kind of protection on it so it would be available to everyone but only people with say a password or code can install it?
Also, the client has recently moved all it's sales force over to iPads and they have a Mobile Device Management System in place called Mobile Iron, is this something that can be used to distribute a single edition publication privately? If so how would we go about this.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    David

    Bob,
Couldn't David use the Single Edition (or Professional) to share the branded app privately using ad hoc distribution (for up to 100 devices, with a standard iOS developer account)? I've had these same questions recently and it seems this is the only approach without investment in the Enterprise solution (or PressRun, Aquafadas, etc)? I'm asking this because I'm still trying to understand if this is a realistic approach (for up to 100 devices).
The documentation said that this type of distribution is "for testing purposes". I'm not sure what exactly this means and if this is enforced or monitored.

  • DPS Single Edition - what if Apple rejects your app?

If you pay for a single edition license and Apple rejects your application after viewing, where do you stand with Adobe?
Are you able to make the changes needed to the app, then rebuild and re-submit?
Is it like a professional, or enterprise edition where you can amend and fine tune your app (through builds and rebuilds) until it is perfect within Viewer Builder - but you're just limited to the one viewer app?
    Thanks

    Thanks Bob.
I haven't got any problems, this is just hypothetical at the moment.
Is there a limit to the amount of changes I want to make? Say I have built my folio, zipped it and placed it in the app in viewer builder. I see a couple of minor errors, so need to re-zip the folio and rebuild the viewer. Then I want to add another section (which requires another rebuild). Is that all doable? I'm just talking from real-life experience of digital publication development - I don't think our first viewer build has ever been the one we've pushed to Apple.

  • Can You Create a Creative Cloud-specific DPS Level?

I have been a Creative Cloud subscriber for over a year now as both a student and an educator and I have noticed one glaring thing wrong with including a subscription for DPS Single Edition for students (and small design & publishing houses/freelancers). In a nutshell, Single Edition is not enough to really launch people into Digital Publishing with the skills needed.
First and foremost SE is iOS-only. Because of Apple's refusal to allow 100% app devleopment/testing/signing on Windows, this requires students to own a Mac. While the program I teach in is done on Macintosh, about 75% of my students use Windows on their personal machines. Signing the apps using the lab computers would be a violation of the college Acceptable Use policies.
In addition, they need access to create content on Android, Windows, and Kindle Fire as well as most publications are at least on Apple/Android (and by extention Kindle) platforms.
My proposal is to create Digial Publication Suite Creative Cloud Edition. It would be just like Single Edition but allow for Multiple Folios that would allow entities to create digital publications and update them just like a real publication house such as Condé-Nast. Second, it would be available on all platforms allowing Windows users to utilize the subscription and also allow for them to prepare and test documents on multiple platforms. The third feature added would be limited analytics.

    Moved to Feature Request forum.

  • How to manage multiple articles in a single InDesign file ?

    Hello all !
Sorry if this seems stupid (it does to me) but I'm new and can't find this info in the ressources.
I have designed a 24-page magazine in InDesign.
I've created an alternate layout for iPad (digital publication) and everything is in order.
But of course alle the magazine pages/articles are in the same InDesign file used to create the original print magazine.
How can I easily separate these article in another way than manually creating on InDesign document per article !?
Because if I create a folio and add the open InDesign document as an article, it has the whole 24 pages in it and doesn't let me select which page/article goes where.
Thanks for your precious help, I can't wait to have a first projet to distribute to our readers.
    Antoine

Okay so I have to create an alternate layout for each page/article ?
Currently I have all 24 pages (A4) for the print version and 24 pages in an alternate layout for the iPad version
