Digital signature in Software Update
I have been trying to Update my Tiger version 10.4 to 10.4.3 using Software Update. After the files download, I get a comment that says the digital signatures are not correct the files cannot be installed. What does this mean?
"The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by Apple"
My iMac Flat Panel updated the most recent upgrade just fine, but my iMac Classic showed the above error message.
I tried several times over two days but no go ... finally I downloaded the OS X 10.4.4 file on Apple's Support site http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxupdate1044.html ... it installed just fine. Then I went to Software Update and this time QuickTime, iPhoto and iPod updates installed without error.

Also got posted in '10.3 or earlier' community, where other posts are regarding this issue ... I get "digital signature on the update is missing or invalid" trying to install 10.6.8 combo on MacBook currently using 10.6.3. Have used Disk Utility, Restart, Shut Down, with no luck. Used Software Update from 2 different avenues, and also downloaded from apple site. Also searched support.apple, no luck. Thoughts?
ok. i've done the moving of those plist files, restarted and tried again. it hasn't worked, but thank you for your suggestion. i got excited for a minute or two.
it now says An unknown installation error occured. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. contact the software manufacturer for assistance. -
Digital signature on the update is missing or invalid. This message appeared when trying to up date ITunes in order to Synch with a new IPad.
Wondering how to download from update site? I have 10.6.8 and need to upgrade, do I jump to the most recent version, or to 10.7?
Also, if the automatic update doesn't work, what do I do to use something from the download site? -
IPod only recognized as digital camera / Apple Software Update unable to be uninstalled
This may sound like a common problem, but I've done a LOT of work trying to fix it based on online searches. With no avail, I think this problem can't be easily fixed.
As the question states, the initial problem is that my iPod Touch (1st gen I think, maybe 2nd gen, iOS 3.1.3) wasn't recognized by iTunes as an iPod, but only as a digital camera (Windows 7, 64-bit). At first I was content because I didn't have extra songs I wanted to add. But then when I cleared the RAM one day, the iPod restarted with the USB/Connect to iTunes screen. Finally, I had no choice but to try to fix the iTunes problem. So, as most people suggest first, I tried to update iTunes.
Unfortunately iTunes was unable to update. There was a rolling back error, that I traced to Apple Mobile Device Software by using the Command Prompt and logging the install log. Apparently, iTunes didn't have sufficient permission by Windows to delete the necessary files. I even uninstalled iTunes to try to reinstall it, but it didn't reinstall, leaving me with no iTunes at all.
Then I extracted AMDS installer from the iTunes installation package and logged that installation process to find errors. According to an online source, the driver was blank, so I first tried using pnputil.exe in cmd to remove the Apple driver package. This failed, so I manually went into C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository to find the driver to delete it so it could reinstall. Unfortunately, it still wouldn't install.
In addition, I changed the ownership of ProgramData, Program Files, and Program Files (x86) in the C:\ disk to Administrator instead of SYSTEM and gave full permission to myself (the administrator) and "TrustedInstaller." A risky move, I know, but I was desperate. I had hoped that this would give permission to iTunes to modify what it needed to modify, but this still didn't work.
Thus, I tried to remove all traces of Apple software that related to iTunes manually. This involved the Apple files in ProgramData, Program Files\Common Files, and Program Files (x86)\Common Files. Then I tried to uninstall the list of programs related to iTunes (Bonjour, QuickTime, etc). However, Apple Software Update refused to uninstall and gave an error "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program reuired for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I fear in my deletion of files, I might have deleted something necessary for this uninstall.
I downloaded multiple forced uninstallers, but none of them worked - the same message showed up constantly. I went into the registry key to see if I could manually uninstall Apple Software Update, but this didn't seem to work either. I was too afraid to delete anymore files...
So here I am again, having walked in a complete circle in this extremely complicated situation. The files I deleted in my first attempt at a solution ended up hindering a possible actual solution. Any ideas to uninstall Apple Software Update, or to solve iTunes rolling back error, or to remove the connect to iTunes screen from my iPod would be greatly greatly greatly appreciated. I can live without iTunes, but my iPod is very important to me. If anyone has a solution to remove the screen without connected to iTunes, or connecting to a different computer's iTunes, I would be willing to take that course of action too.

Update on 10.6.8 fails due to digital signature on update is missing
wanting to install the Parallels version 10 and it won't work on 10.6.8 version of my Mac OS so I learned how to go to the software update which indicates an update is available. When I go ahead and load the update it runs fine and then stops with a message that the Macbook Pro EFI Firmware Update can't be saved. It says the digital signature on the update is missing or invalid.
I don't know if the digital signature is on my computer or the update? I would upgrade to a more recent version of the OS but don't know what will work.
Can anyone help?
DanParallels 10 isn't compatible with 10.6 according to the web site.
Mac Requirements
Hardware:
A Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor (Core Solo and Core Duo processors are no longer supported)
Minimum 2 GB of memory (4 GB of memory is recommended to run Windows 7 in a virtual machine or if your host OS is Lion)
About 850 MB of disk space on the boot volume (Macintosh HD) for Parallels Desktop installation
About 15 GB of disk space for each virtual machine
Software:
OS X Yosemite 10.10 or later
OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 or later
Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 or later
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 or later
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.
Application Compatibility
Applications Compatibility (2)
Do a backup before installing.
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again. You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.
Bootable USB Flash Drive – Diskmaker X
Mountain Lion
Note - Mavericks is no longer available. -
I tried in the iTunes forum, but didn't get very far, but now suspect the problem's at my end, and probably with Snow Leopard.
I've been trying to install updates. At firt it was just iTunes, and some people thought it's because the servers were overloaded with the launch of iOS 5.1.
I tried again today, for iTunes and Safari, and I get this message:
The digital signature on the update is missing or invalid. The update may have been tampered with since being signed by Apple. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs.
It downloaded the full 130Mb (or whatever) and only told me at the end!
I can't think what I've done to my computer to make it not recognise the Apple signature.... everything else seems to be working fine.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very pleased to hear them.
Thanks.This fixed my issues also
"checked my time / date panel after realising it was wrong in the menu" it was off more the a day can cause this.

Well, after days of trawling this forum and the internet in general, and reading some fairly exotic "solutions", none of which worked, I sussed it almost by accident!
We've just had a leap year and a time change.... I just checked my time / date panel after realising it was wrong in the menu. Sure enough, the "auto update" was not checked, which meant it had got out of sync with the date and the time.
I checked it, both updated, went back to software update, and they downloaded / installed without a hitch!
Hope this helps someone else. -

Kindly enlighten me on SAP limitations for Digital Signature implementation.
Are there any avenues in Sales and Distribution processes other than billing where digital signature could be useful (any internal or external process during order to cash or procure to pay cycle)?Hello,

Kernel Panics after Software update
(Really no defined section for this. Posted in 'Ports and Interfaces'.)
Had my first Kernel panic on this laptop:
MBP 6,1
2.66 i7 Arrandale
512MB 330M NVidia
8GB Ram
Happened immediately after installing the new/updated software packages.
Main programs open and running:
Team Fortress 2
Steam
Mumble
Terminal
The kernel panic with 'com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.3.6)' and my styled laptop suggest highly of a 330M fault, and requires a new Logic board.
Which in my case may or may not be true, due to the fact that this panic happened immediately after updating.

Signature 171 Digital Signature Error
When I install signature 171 to IDSM2's using VMS 2.3 I get: An error occurred while running the update script on the sensor named IDS-C1-B. Detail = An error occurred at the sensor during the update, sensor message = idsPackageMgr: digital signature of the update file was not valid, use CCO to replace corrupted file
The update of the VMS management center and security monitor worked OK. Does anyone know it this signature zip file is really corrupt?
I re-downloaded and replaced the file in VMS, but still got the same message.Upgrading a sensor via VMS is part of our standard testing procedure for a new signature update and it passed the test!
Unfortunately, for some reasons, the checksum of the file published on Cisco.com doesn't match the checksum of the file we have tested.
My apologies for any inconvenience it could have caused, we are working to have this fixed asap!
I'll post again once this has been done. -
Software Update - digital signature incorrect
I have several update packages that were consistently reporting the error:
*The update "xxxxxxx" can't be saved.*
The digital signature for this package is incorrect.
The updates are:
iLife Support 9.0.3
Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4 1.0
Safari 4.0
Several other updates (eg. recent iTunes and QuickTime) downloaded and installed OK.
I tried all of the following to no avail:
Repair disk permissions
Reinstall 10.5.7 combo package manually
Delete Software Update preferences & cache files
Multiple restarts
Finally I tried running Software Update under a fresh admin account and they downloaded OK. (Different issue that the Java Update later said it couldn't install).
So seemingly this is related to something in my usual admin account. Does anybody know what other preference files I should look to delete, or any other hidden setting that is affecting the digital signature checking?I tried all of the following to no avail:
Repair disk permissions
Guess Carolyn didn't notice this.
This was happening fairly frequently about a month ago when 10.5.7 came out. The Apple servers were overloaded apparently and some incomplete downloads occurred so some type of checksum prevented running the update. Waiting and downloading later seemed to be the best solution.

Perhaps by the time you did all the troubleshooting steps, if you tried it from the original admin account it would have downloaded correctly. -
Software update-"incorrect digital signature"
I've used software update many times. Today, when attemting to use software update I get the following error message:
"the digital signature for this package is incorrect. the package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by apple"
how do I correct this situation so software update will work correctly?
thanks,
pete
Mac OS X (10.4.10)Since we don't know where the O.P. is located or why the digital signature is incorrect, I suggest taking the added precaution of verifying the SHA-1 Digest for at least the first of the manually downloaded updates if that method of obtaining them is used.

Software update: "The digital signature for this pkg is incorrect"?
When I do the software update check, I get a list of updates, but when they go to install, I get
the above message. Apple article #303134 says to download manually and then run it, but that
doesn't work either. Anyone having this problem? Are you using Software Update, or direct download?
Which exact one is it? -
When I run the Apple Software update, it tells me that iCloud and iTunes have invalid signature and will not be downloaded. When I DL iTunes64setup.exe, the program will not start (there's a bar that flashes but nothing actually begins). I've done everything short of reinstalling Windows to fix this (system resore, unistalling all Apple products, taking down firewall, running Windows FixIt - which either won't find the problem or gives me an error saying that the troubleshooter cannot be downloaded at this time, going into the security features to allow programs without valid signatures, trying to install earlier versions of iTunes). It all started when I downloaded the Decemberists new album on my iPhone, and it wasn't downloading it properly so I connected it to my Dell, but some songs still wouldn't DL - also, the newest OS for my iPhone still won't install via WiFi - and so I uninstalled iTunes first, but nothing is helping. And I don't have any security issues (Norton has checked). Any ideas? I'm at my wit's end after 3 days of this. Thank you.
Ok, so after like 4 days of going through all these different issues, I figured out that several programs weren't downloading, and it was an issue with my wireless connectivity messing up the digital signatures, so if you plug in your comp to the modem and delete your temp files, it should start to work!

I get this message when I check the Device manager for my Ipod
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)
How do I resolve this I have reinstalled iTunes but it still doesn't recognise my ipodI reinstalled Itunes a couple of times. I unistalled all programs that I never use, I updated all of my drivers, Windows swept my computer and found no problems. I have a yellow causion lite when I look at the USB-port with the phone connected. All other devices work without a problem.
