Digital Signature Issues

Hi, I am brand new to this forum, But this is my second question. I am running Abobe Acrobat Pro 9.0.
I have been tasked with making a document that is Digital Signature ready.
I was able to make a digital signature for my document.  However, I have two warning that come up.
Once the document is signed, a blue bar shows up at the top of the page. It has the following statement: "At least one signature has problems, Please fill out the following form.  If you are the form author, choose distribute form in the forms menu to send it to your recipients"
When expanding on the yellow triangle, There is one green check mark (with a statement that says: "The document has not been modified since this signature was applied".
                    Two warnings show up:
                     1)  "The signers identiy is unknown because it has not been included in your list of trusted identities and none of its parent certificates are trusted identities".
                     2)  " Signature date/time are from the clock on the signers computer".
George, I have not been able to paste the Javascripts from that freeware into my Adobe program.  I am not sure if it is the permissions set in the Adobe program or the restrictions my company has with altering computer software.
Is there something that I might be able to do to remove the warnings?
          Very Respectfully: Rossknechtt,

For #1, it will always show that for self-signed certificates that you have not yet chosen to trust. When you add the identity to your list of trusted identities
and choose to trust it as a trusted root.
For #2, it will say that unless the time was retrieved from a timestamp server when the signature was applied. So what you're seeing is normal if one was not used.
More information on all of this is in the Acrobat Help document.

  • Opening PDF's in Illustrator - Digital signature Issue

Having an Issue with Digital signatures...
Currently we are opening up PDF's into Illustrator and changing some art,  the Digital signature is not showing but its appearing again when the file is made back into a PDF.
Would like the Digital Signature removed but can't do it from Illustrator as its not appearing.
Its not my signature so I can't remove it the normal way by just clearing it from Acrobat???
    Any suggestions anyone???

You could open the pdf, in a text editor and remove the code for the signature. Problem with that is the code is hard to find what to delete, as it is not in postscript section, but all scrambled letters(hexadecimal or something like that).
Open the pdf in illustrator, copy all , and paste into a new document, and your signature will be gone.

  • Digital Signature issue

We have PDF's that are signed by multiple people and we are in the progress of upgrading from Adobe Acrobat and Reader (any version from 7.0 to 9.4.4) to Adobe Acrobat X.
If a document is signed by a user with Acrobat X and he sends it to a user with Acrobat 9, the second user is not able to sign the document. Is this known behaviour and is there a solution?
    Respectfully,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
Pay no attention to the first reply, there is nothing in there that is correct.
The capability to add multiple signatures and to a PDF and to move between versions has existed since version 6. As Acrobat has evolved it has been possible to add a signature in a newer version that the older version wouldn't understand, for example, in version 6 it only understood the MD5 and SHA-1 digest algorithms. In version 7 SHA-256 was introduced and if you signed using SHA-256 then version 6 wouldn't be able to successfully validate the signature. In version 10 we added a signature format called CAdES that older version wouldn't be able to decode, but for the most part as long as the user doesn't change the default (out of the box) settings backwards compatibility is maintained.
That brings us to what is causing the file to be locked after the first signature. There are several things that could be going on. One thing to realize is there are two types of signatures; a certifying signature and an approval signature. You can only add on certifying signature per file and it has to be the first signature, whereas you can add multiple approval signatures, The first signature may be an approval signature, but if it is then you cannot add a certifying signature.
When adding a certifying signature there are options in a drop-down menu, one of which is to allow no changes. If that option were selectred then you can't make any changes to the file let alone sign.
Since version 9, Acrobat/Reader  will detect if the last empty signature field is being signed. If that's the case an optional checkbox appears on the Sign dialog that allows the signer to lock the document.
To go a bit further, in order to sign in Reader the file needs to be Reader Enabled. You can do this from Acrobat Pro (but not Standard) and there are servers that also can do this as well. It is possible that the second signer is using Reader, but the file has not been Reader Enabled. The document author has to Reader Enable the file before any signatures are applied, it's not something you can do after that first signature.
Acrobat version 6 & 7 had a bug where they could break the Reader Enablement, but that hasn't existed in a long time. It is possible the the first signer was using version 7 and toasted the Reader rights.
The document author could have added in JavaScript that or signature field properties that cause the file to be locked on signing as well.
So, there are numerous things that can be going on, but once you iron out the problem you will be able to add signatures galore.

Can anybody suggest cause of the same?

    Ritwika,
Are the User Name and Password correct?  Is the User assigned to the SAP_XMII_User role in Netweaver?  On the iCommand's Security screen, is the SAP_XMII_User assigned as a Reader role?
Have you checked the Netweaver log?  There may be more detailed information there.

  • Digital Signature Not Showing Up in Saved PDF

I am frequently sent pdf contracts that need to be filled out, signed and returned.  I turn the pdf into a form and then add a signature field, click "certify with visible signature," sign it and save it as a pdf.  But then when I email the signed pdf it has all the form content but doesn't show the signature. Same for when I open the file in Preview.  The signature only shows up in Acrobat.  Can anyone help explain what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
It was dsaks  who originally asking about creating a digital signature and that's what the core of this thread is about. When Mobius Strip  asked about flattening the signature into a bitmap image that I suggested using a custom signature appearance, because the progenitor of the thread was asking about digital signatures. If they can get by with using a custom stamp then that's fine by me, but that wasn't the thread topic.
    On to your questions:
    mrtoner wrote:
I understand why Adobe won't (if that's the case) license the digital signatures ability so that Preview and other applications can use it. However, it should be trivial to allow that wet ink signature appear in other apps and I don't see a compelling reason to prevent it -- afer all, it's not a digital signature.
There is no licensing involved here. The PDF specification is public and the Acrobat SDK even has an example of how to create your own signature plug-in. When it comes to the actual cryptographic operations we license the software from RSA. As far as how the signature is created, and how it should be processed, that's all covered by public facing documentation. In fact, Apple is more than capable of processing signatures using their Keychain utility, it's just that they have elected not to include that functionality into Preview.
If your job is to monitor this forum and assist users, why couldn't you manage to suggest that the other users use the stamps feature, since it was clear that what they were wanting was only the signature image? These folks are spending hundreds and thousands of dollars on your products and they deserve better than this.
It's not my job to monitor the forum. I chime in on digital signature issues because it's a complex subject and there are so few people who understand the minutia of how they work. If dsaks hadn't added  "certify with visible signature," to the original post I would have skip this completely, but he/she did so I tried to answer their question.
Finally, it's a bit disingenuous when you stated "The image does not display at all, except in Acrobat/Acrobat Reader". It just doesn't display in the free Mac Preview app. There are other third party signature handlers that will process and display a digital signature in a PDF file, but there are not a lot of them in free PDF viewers. As I said above, if dsaks can get by with a custom stamp then great, but if he/she needs a cryptographically sound digital signature then there is no reason why not to created it because everyone can get the free Reader for the Mac, Windows and Linux platforms.

  • Digital signature valid or invalid depending on the signing Windows user

I have a very strange problem and was not able to determine how to resolve it because I quite don't undestand the mechanisms of signing, it seems.
I have a digital signature issued by a member of the "Adobe Approved Trust List". If I sign a document with Adobe Reader XI or Adobe Acrobat XI Standard logged in with one Windows user account the signature appears valid on any other Windows user account. If I use another Windows user account and sign the document with the same digital signature the signature is invalid in this Windows user account and any other.
I didn't change any settings in any of the Adobe products. I use the standard configuration as present just after a fresh install.
One thing I already checked, which nevertheless doesn't explain this strange behavior, is to enable Windows-Integration in the signature configuration of the Adobe products. If this is enabled both documents (the one signed with the "good" Windows user account and the other signed in a "bad" one) show the signature as valid on any Windows account.
So I am wondering if, besides the signature itself, anything else is integrated into a document while being signed that could explain that behavior and, if this is the case, where the setting, trigger, whatsoever, is, to set up Adobe correctly.
    Please help.

What do you mean by "signature is invalid"? Is it a a red X or is it Unknown? A problem with trust results in the "Unknown" status, not "Invalid".
In any case, inspect the signature, first in the Signature panel. It will tell you some info about what's wrong with this signature. Then right-click on the signature and select "Show Signature Properties". You'll get a dialog with more info. In this dialog select "Show Signer's Certificate". Check the chain (in the left pane) and "Revocation" tab for each certificate in the chain.
Compare this info for signatures created on a "good" account and "bad". My guess is that the "bad" account is lacking some certificate-related component.and the "good account has it. The fact that if you turn on Windows integration signature becomes valid tells me that it is something related to account.
Another thing to try is this. Go to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0\Security folder and see if it has CRLCache folder. If it has, delete it and try to sign again.
Also compare the preferences. Check the Edit->Preferences->Signatures->Verification->More->Verification Time preference. Is it the same on both accounts? Is it "Time when the signature was created"? Is the "Include signature's revocation status" check box in  Edit->Preferences->Signatures->Verification->More->Creation and Appearances->More checked in both accounts?

  • ITunes won't start -- Digital signature the problem?

I haven't been able to get iTunes to start for the past month. It all started when I installed iTunes 7. I never had any problems with iTunes before that. I've tried nine or ten different suggestions and nothing seems to be working. Is there any way that I can delete iTunes 7 and somehow get back to using iTunes 6? This may be my last hope. I'm seriously considering buying a new computer just so I can use iTunes again.
Also, for the past few weeks, whenever I try to install software updates I get some message about the digital signature being incorrect. I am able to get the updates installed manually, but I was wondering if this digital signature issue could have something to do with iTunes not working anymore?
I've been using my Mac for the past three years and haven't really had any problems until now, so this is very frustrating. Thank you for any help or advice you can give me.

  • BEX Analyzer 3.5 Expired Certificate / Digital Signature

    Hey Everyone,
Are any of you experiencing this? Expired Digital Signature issue for BEX Analyzer (sapbex.xla).
We are on SAP GUI 7.10 patch 8, and BEX 3.5 Add-On patch 4. When users
go to launch the BEX Anlayzer or open broadcasted reports, they get an
error saying Digital Signature is Invalid or has Expired.
This is because of the certificate that is provided with SAPBEX.XLA, expired on 3/6/09.
I looked into relavent notes 492364, and 929716 which come with older certificates. We do not want to enable macros completely.
    Thanks!
    Imran

    Hi Imran,
After Opening your Bex analyzer or in Excel
Excel goto -- tools macrosecurity--Security level Tab --choose *Medium* option after setting this open your bex analyzer again you will get a pop up for *enable or disable macros* you can choose disable macros,
now you will be able to open the Bex analyzer and run queries
IF you are not still able to use or if you dont want *enable macro / disable macro* pop up then use
    this setting,
Excel goto -- tools macrosecurity--Security level Tab -- choose Low option
you will not get any pop ups and you will get the select query option.
    Hope this solve your issue.

  • Issue with multiple digital signatures disabling fast web view

Hello, I'm using acrobat 9.1 pro and have some questions regarding an issue using multiple signatures on a pdf.
Why am I asking the question below? My job involves preparing pdf's for submission to FDA. The FDA requires, among other things, that electronically submitted docs have fast web view enabled.
I am currently exploring ways of using digital signatures to sign pdf reports and still make sure they are FDA spec compliant. My issue involves a document that would have multiple signature fields. What I do is create at least two signature fields in the doc and then save and optimize while enabling fast web view. When I sign the first box and save, the file retains the fast web view status. Yet, when I apply and signatures past the first one, the file is subsequently set to fast web view off without any obvious way of turning it back on. I am confused as to why it gets disabled only after the second, and not right after even the first one was signed. And, of course, I would like to know if it is possible to maintain fast web view and how to do it. I'll gladly accept "tinkering under the hood" of the file suggestions if they exist as well.
Please let me know if anything is unclear or you need further information.
Thanks for your time and help.
    ~Vlad

    Hi Vlad,
Michael actual had the correct answer. The purpose of a "Linearized" file (i.e. a file that has been Optimized for Fast Web View) is to get the first page to display as soon as possible so you can start reading without waiting for the rest of the file to download. As an aside, the designated first page doesn't necessarily have to be page 0 (PDF's use a zero based counting system for pages), but usually it is. To quote the PDF specification, "The primary focus of Linearized PDF is optimized viewing of read-only PDF documents. It is intended that the Linearized PDF be generated once and read many times. Incremental update is still permitted, but the resulting PDF is no longer linearized and subsequently is treated as ordinary PDF."
When you sign a PDF file the first time the Save process is a "full save", that is the entire document is rewritten so there are no more than two %%EOF (end-of-file) markers in it. The first EOF designates which page to show first and the second EOF designates the end of the rest of the file (so the browser knows when to stop downloading). However, when you add a second (or subsequent) signature the file is saved as an "incremental save" and all of the new data is tacked onto the the end of the original file. This is so you can do a rollback to the previous signed version and allows Acrobat/Reader to check the integrity of each signature independent of any other signatures. It's the incremental save that breaks the linearized optimization of the file.
