Digital Sound Dolby Digital .. I miss Soundstorm :( (Neo4 Platinum)

Ok Im having EXTREME problems, Im so so so dissapointed in this motherboards sound (MSI Neo4 Platinum) When I saw that it had 7.1 I was sure it was dolby digital compatible, but its just this junky crap analog setup....  Now Ive been looking into sound cards, and  I have no clue what to do..
From what I've read my old board (Nforce2 Ultra) was the only SOUnd chip, ONBOARD or SOUND CARD to have DOLBY DIGITAL ENCODING .. encoding = sends dolby digital 5.1 to my Home Theater setup.
I have a 7.1 Harmon Kardon, and with my nforce 2 ultra, the coaxial digital output to my surroudn receiver came in as dolby digital, and the sound was incredibly, now Ive got this crap hissing analog sound on a NFORCE 4 Ultra... I really hate Nvidia for their decision on dropping soundstorm, And now Im trying to to hookup my computer to my receiver to get digital and digital 5.1 ( I dont absolutely need 7.1 for my computer) .
Does anyone know of any sound cards that have DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1/ EX, DTS, ENCODING.. not decoding, all of them do decoding, but encoding .. from what Ive read.. is needed to output true 5.1 to my home receiver.

One thing that just blows my mind... is Why the **** did the dumb a$$es include Optical and Coaxial outputs on these boards.... (MSI NEO4 Platinum)  and many other Nforce 4 ultra boards.....
I mean.. if they arent even dolby digital , and they dont even have ENCODERS, than why would you use digital ouputs???
Becuase PC's "evolve" and end up with "items" which where required once, but then become the PC equivelent of the human "appendix".
Your taking for granted that even  dolby DECODERS have always been around. They wern't, and at first the only way to get surround from DVD' was to use the SPDIF to an external decoder.

i connected my yamaha sorround receiver through the digital out of the s-bracket with an coxial cabel but i only get the windows sound that click clack sound but no digital sound like dts or 5.1 when i play vob-files with defenitly have digital sound. it all worked fine but i reinstalled w2k and no i only get the system-sound.
i installed the latest ac97 drivers from msi but nothing helped.

    Hi,
Can you describe what did you do "before" and "after" the problem occured? Sounded like
before - no Yamaha speakers, no Win2k reinstallation
after - Win2k reinstallation, with Yamaha speakers
Or before and after (win2k installation) you have tested your Yamaha speakers and it worked?
What if you use analog output, does it sound?
If analog sound, then probably you have to check the AC'97 and Volume settings, such as to enable Digital-output etc.

  • Analog sound signal no digital sound

I have a A660-BT2G25 laptop which includes DOLBY® Advanced Audio.  I connected it via an HDMI cable to the back of my Denon receiver and set the receiver to receive either digital sound input or analog sound input from the laptop that I am currently using as part of my entertainment center. All items in my device manager are operating properly (the system shows NVIDIA High Definition Audio under sound four identical times with all divers identical in each, all with normal operation & no conflicts-not sure if this is normal). The computer recognizes the Receiver as an Denon AVAMP-3 in the sound setup in Control Panel. Further,  I have set it as the default and run test after test. The properties there indicate the device is operating normally and shows DTS, Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus. w/HDCP supported, up to 192 sampling rate, 16 & 24 bit. Here is the rub. My receiver is only receiving analog signals under PCM (analog signal) and not DTS (digital) so while the sound is good and clear per my receiver upgrading the signal, there is no digital splitting of the signal to the 5.1 channels. If I force the receiver to take only DTS signals over the HDMI cable there is no sound at all. There is nothing wrong with the receiver. Anybody have any suggestions???

Hi, I just purchased a Mac Pro and am running 10.5.2. I am seeing the exact same behaviour when using the optical digital out from the Mac Pro to a Teac Receiver. It takes about 5 seconds for the audio to start playing from a "silence". If there is continuous playback there are no problems, but if there is ever a significant pause in the audio the receiver shows "unlock" on the display and stops playing out audio.
It certainly does seem like the digital stream is getting interrupted which then causes an issue with the receiver.
I haven't been able to find a solution yet.

There is one important fact with this scenario that you should know:
the digital audio output of any TV, that I am aware of, will only output the audio signal received via built-in DTV tuner through its Coax output to an external device (in your case either the DVB-T or DVB-C audio signal).
IT WILL NOT BYPASS digital audio signal received via any of its HDMI sockets to the Coax output !. Please be aware of that (its also mentioned in the user manual). This is not a limitation of the TV, but due to design rules of HDMI audio signal processing.
If you intend to connect a PC via HDMI to the TV and want to use digital audio, you must connect the PC directly to a capable AV-receiver with HDMI inputs.
The receiver will then decode the HDMI audio signal and bypass video signal to the TV.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI Sound Problem

I've recently build a system using the new K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI nForce4 board, which has the Creative SoundBlaster Live! 24bit onboard. The problem being the volume of the sound output (analogue) is extremely low. All volume controls in Windows are all set to full volume, but the sound output is still very very low. I consider myself pretty good with computers but with this problem I'm stumpted. Anybody else had this problem? Any insite would be very appricated.
    Various info:
With my old SoundBlaster Live! Value the sound is fine
    System Specs:
    K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI
    Athlon64 3500 Winchester
    1gb PC3200 (Crucial ValueSelect RAM)
    nVidia GeForce 6800 256mb
    WindowsXP Professional w/ SP2
    Any help will be appreciated

Ive been wanting to set up a new system based of this same motherboard, but all the power supplies Ive found so far have either been brands Im not familiar enough with or I havent been able to find a definitive answer on if the power supply supports that -5V pin(usually both, unfortunately). Can anyone point me in the right direction for a PSU under US$100? Any suggestions of power supplies anyone has had success with will also be greatly appreciated.
Ive spent about the past three days searching and have finally reached my wits end.
    Second edit:
I double checked the diamond forum link (it gave a link not found page the first time), I did get to see what was posted there, but since most online retailers and manufacturer websites dont give the best view of the main connector, thats not alot of help. The only websites Im comfortable ordering from also do not evne carry the suggested power supplies, or any other unit by those manufacturer.
    FINAL Edit (I promise...kinda):
I double checked on NewEgg (and then double checked FrozenCPU.com), and I found one from OCZ that doesnt totally blow my goal of USD100 or less out of the water. Lists a -5v supply, and is 24 pin for the motherboard:
    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-155&depa=1
Same thing for 129.99 on FCPU, which is where Ill be ordering the power supply from.
I dont have any real need for the onboard adjustment dials of the more expensive series, and I really like the modular PSU design, not to mention the blue color scheme will work well in my blue-illuminated case.
Now, are there any other hurdles I need to be aware of?

  • Dolby Digital AC-3 missing: Realtek ALC892 / Creative Cambridge SoundWorks DeskTop Theater 5.1

    Hi there,
recently I purchased a new mainboard (ASUS Sabertooth X58, http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...th_X58.pdfwith an internal soundchip ALC892 from Realtek. This mainbard has an internal S/PDIF-Connector which I connected to a coax cable for fitting the Dolby Digital AC-3 S/PDIF input of the Creative Cambridge SoundWorks DeskTop Theater 5.1 (model CSW3000, 998, http://download.cambridgesoundworks....nuals/DTT5.pdf
As the SoundWorks has an internal Dolby decoder working it seems to be somewhat difficult to get the noise going. Simply connecting the cable does not work, neither tuning the Realtek sound driver. It seems that the Realtek driver is missing an option to stream directly to the DTT5.1.
Is there any possibility to get the combination working?
    Best regards, Ingo Wolfmller

I installed my old Audigy 2 and connected the Speakers. The digital output of that soundcard works. So the speakers are alright. But the AC-3 stream e.g. coming from an DVD delivers a steady crunching/crashing sound. Maybe a configuration problem although I fixed the output to Dolby Digital an 48 kHz.
The internal Realtek still delivers nothing.

  • Dolby Digital 5.1 Sound Delay

Hello to all you knowledgable people in the sound department!
I just hooked up my Koss home entertainment center, which suports Dolby Pro Logic 2, Dolby Digital, and other things, but these seem the most important. System Specs in sig. I have the latest Nvidia Audio Drivers.
My problem is whether I am playing music, or a game, or make any sound at all with the computer, it is delayed about a second. I have my speakers hooked up through the optical port on the S bracket. This problem is very annoying playing games, as I shoot a shotgun, and I see the flash, and a second later I hear the boom! I plugged headphones into the standard analog speaker jack on the motherboard.. if I am in a game, and shoot something, I hear it right away in the headphones, and then a second later my set of speakers play it. And of course that goes for any kind of sound, such as music. Interestingly enough, I have found that if I choose "5.1 Speakers" in the Nvidia audio setup thing it is no longer delayed, but it doesnt sound as good. Once I switch it back to "5.1 Speakers (Dolby Digital)" then it is delayed, but sounds better. On my receiver it shows the Dolby Digital icon thing, meaning that's what it isusing rather than Pro Logic 2.
I have searched these forums, the internet, and OCForums with no luck, and this si really driving me crazy!
ANY help is very much appreciated, thanks!
    -Dan

    Hi,
Acrobatikdan: Right, played on Doom3 for about an hour (my VGA card's not really up to it, so it's a bit jerky). There was only a very slight difference between what I heard out of my speakers (DD 5.1) and what I was seeing on screen, and wouldn't have been noticeable had I not been looking specifically for it!
So I reckon you do have problems if there's a second delay! As to what that problem is, I have no idea - unhappily!
Sorry I couldn't have been more helpful
Btw, If you do manage to fix it please tell us how, as it may help others in the future!
Here's an interesting page I just found:
    http://www.lvcoyote.com/soundstorm.htm
Note this quote from the webpage in the link above above, (although he is talking about another motherboard):
    Quote
Dolby Digital audio should be pre-prepared to be reproduced along with the video.  With weak CPU resources, you will have the sound lagging behind the picture.
Mind you, I'm only using an XP2400+ and I have no problem!
Frenchy over to you mate - any new ideas?!

  • TS5150 With certain movies I have downloaded digitally through Itunes or certain movies through Netflix played through Apple TV, I am only getting partial sound.  I am missing one or more sound tracks.  Am I missing something in the settings for Apple TV?

Are you using a stereo receiver or surround sound system for the audio by chance.  What you are describing sounds like a receiver that is not setup correctly, or does not have the speakers connected to it correctly to support Dolby surround, 5.1 or 7.1.  Which is why it is only happening on some content.  It would only be on the ones that are encoded to support Dolby audio.

  • ATV3 - I need to enable dolby digital for optical surround sound (netflix and home movies), but when I do this it stops audio coming through TV speakers

I have a cinema sound receiver connected to Apple TV via optical cable.  When I have dolby digital set to Auto it doesn't come through as dolby digital when watching movies on netflix and iTunes (home movies).
If I set Dolby Digital to ON it works as expected, but the sound stops working through normal TV speakers (via HDMI).  This is the same for netflix and home movies.
I tried 16 bit setting, but it made no difference.
Any advice on how I can get this working - meaning Dolby Digital always on for when I turn my surround sound on and sound through speakers for normal operation?
Obviously I can change the setting when needed, its just a pain.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello everyone,
here is the friendly and signed driver installation method to enable Dolby Digital Plus in your Encore internal speakers only. This is not an official driver, there is no control panel for Dolby Digital Plus or various sound effects, but tested and has much better and richer surround sound quality as before with factory driver. I guess, this driver tweak can work with any Bay Trail tablet also.
How can you upgrade Encore sound drivers:
    1. Download signed driver package and extract.
    2. Open Device Manager.
    3. Upgrade your Sound, Video and game controllers
    - Intel SST Audio Device
    - Realtek I2S Audio Codec
one by one with "Have a disk" method.
    4. Double click enabledolby.reg file and add to your registry.
    5. Restart, and enjoy better sound quality.
    Thanks.

Hello, since nobdy else has replied...
    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there.

  • Stereo Sound to Rear Speakers Only / Dolby Digital

Just purchased a Toshiba 40S51U LCD TV.  Having an issue with the sound when connected to a receiver via the optical out.
I think the issue is as follows:  When the program (ie local news) or commercial is broadcast in stereo, the sound is sent only to the surround (rear) speakers.  Sound is great (surround works just fine) when watching a show.  Assuming the shows are broadcasting 5.1 sound, local news only 2.0.
    Signal is over-the-air.
I can switch the sound output to PCM and get reasonable sound for everything, but obviously lose the surround sound.  Would like to keep the system in Dolby Digital (AUTO) all the time.
    Thanks,
    Rob
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Me again -- I'm an idiot and the TV was just fine.
My receiver was set to a non-connected set of speakers -- not sure why anything was working!  I changed the speakers to the set actually connected and everything seems to be working OK now.  The optical out on the TV was likely never an issue.

  • Encoding Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in MP4 files using AC3 pass-through

Looking for an application that will encode Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in an .mp4 container using AC3 pass-through for playing videos with surround sound on ATV.
Handbrake is out of the question because I run Tiger. The Tiger version cannot do AC3 pass-through.
Visual Hub is no longer available.
    Any other options?

You may need Apple's MPEG2 QT plugin as well for MPEGStreamclip.
Also, consider if running windows in parallels/Boot Camp etc that there's a windows version, and possibly a linux version.
VisualHub code was released open source - Google FilRedux and PunyVid (iSquint derivative). Not tried either though.

  • No DVD Dolby Digital surround sound in media player or media center in Windows 7

I mirrored my working config from my Vista 32 bit install into my Windows 7 64 bit install and a Windows 7 32 bit install, but can't get the Dolby Digital SPDIF coax output to work (just get static) in my Windows 7 install when playing a DVD.
    Notes:
    - Both Vista and Windows 7 are on the same PC, but on different partitions of the same hard drive.
    - standard stereo output works fine in Windows 7
    - Dolby Digital and DTS do work in Windows 7, but only in the Sound config window, not in any program.
I have the latest Creative Audigy 2 ZS Soundblaster Windows 7 drivers installed (Creative Sound Blaster Audigy series driver 2.18.0011).
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the Dolby Digital / DTS output to work Windows 7 when playing a DVD?

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting.
Please try the following to check the S/PDIF device:
    1.    Go to “Control Panel\Hardware and Sound” and click “Sound”.
    2.    In the opened dialogue box, switch to the “Playback” tab, right-click on the box listing the current devices, select Show Disabled Devices and see if the item “Digital Audio (S/PDIF)” will appear. If it appears, please enable it and set it as Default Device and see if it works.
Considering the issue is related to the specific hardware, it is also recommended that you contact Creative and see if they have any constructive suggestions.
