Digital Still Camera message

Hi,
When I connect my iPod Touch to my PC (Windows XP) my system recognises it as a Digital Still Camera then the computer shuts down. I have attached my old iPod Nano and this is recognised correctly indicating it is not the computer. This problem started when I updated to the latest version of iTunes. I have un-installed and re-installed iTunes. Can someone give me guidance on what to do to resolve this issue please.
Thanks
Pete

I'm not sure why the computer would shut down, but usually the reason that iTunes thinks an iPod Touch is a camera is because you have pictures on it that were taken as screenshots by the Touch or by one of the Apps on the Touch.
On the Touch, look in Photos. Is there a heading called *saved photos?* If so, that's a picture taken on the Touch and until it's removed from the *saved photos* camera roll on the Touch, you'll continue to see the camera message when you connect the Touch to iTunes.
Follow the prompts and copy the photos to your computer _and then_ make sure you remove them from the *saved photos* of the Touch.

Hi, I was able to reformat my iPod and that worked. I read it on one of the threads and I am copy pasting the method below:
I opened the "My Computer" window and right-clicked on my ipod, and then selected "Format". I select "Yes" to format since I don't have anything on the nano to delete anymore.
I then Eject my nano from the computer and did a restart while the nano is disconnected from the computer.
Once Windows finish loading I reconnect the USB to the nano(back of computer) which automatically pulls up iTune. It asked me to name the new ipod detected and created a playlist for that specific ipod name.

Reinstall iTunes. Make sure you follow the instructions in this support document to the letter. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.
You may have some problems because Apple has not certified that everything works with Windows 8 yet.

  • "Digital Still Camera" not installing in XP Pro (IPhone 4 Os 4.2)

Help, all posts seem to be getting ignored in Apple regarding XP Pro.

Thanks. When I attach the IPhone 4 to my desktop, XP Pro lower right hand corner pops up "Found IPhone" and then "Found Digital Still Camera", after that a Found New Hardware wizard opens and I'm not able to move past as none of the options work including things on Apple website with the driver, etc., then lower right corner, "not installed and may not work correctly". It does charge and works with ITunes. In a Windows 7 laptop, no problem, a window opens and asks about importing pictures, etc. and it all works.
If I understand correctly, it shows up as a digital camera but does not show up in iTunes. You get an error message installing the driver, which may be only a warning; it might work anyway. I assume you have iTunes 10.1 installed and that your account has Administrator privileges.
Open the Task Manager first; click on the Processes tab, then the Image Name column heading to sort it. Look for AppleMobileDeviceService.exe. If you do not see it you have found the problem. Launch the Service Manager (in Control Panel, Administrative Tools), find the service, right click it and choose Start. This should fix the problem.
If the service was running or you get an error starting it you need to completely remove iTunes, download a fresh copy, and reinstall it. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Other possible causes include using a hub rather than a direct connection to a USB port on the computer, a firewall or antivirus that is blocking the connection, or a defective USB port.

This is what is happening to me.  the PC is on and I have3 the Itunes on the screen but as soon as I plug in my iPad my PC seems to think that it is a digital still camera and emediatly starts suting down as it seems to think the iPad(digital camera) is going to harm my PC.  PC will not go anyfurther than a warning screen and I have to then shut it down  unplug the iPad and start again.  HELP please

  • PC shuts off when Ipod Touch is connected.  Detects "Digital Still Camera"

My Ipod Touch was working fine until today. I plugged it into my PC and then it detects it as a "digital still camera". Then after a few seconds my PC will completely shut down.
The weird thing is that once it restarts with the Ipod connected already it will detect it as an Ipod and Itunes will open and everything normally. If I then disconnect it and connect it again, it will be detected as a camera again and again shut down.
I've looked all over the inter for solutions. Most of them involve updating the driver. But I cannot update the driver unless the device is connected. And when the device is connected as a "digital still camera" it will shut down my computer.
I tried booting in safe mode and then connecting the Ipod Touch and it worked fine. It detected it as an Ipod and everything worked fine. My plan was to boot in safe mode and then update the driver but I couldn't because it detected it normally.
I would normally try turning off some services to see if something it bothering it but I don't want to ruin my computer by consistently shutting it down unexpectingly and giving me errors each time it reboots.
I've seen other people online with this problem but none with a solution. I would really appreciate some help. Thank you

Mine is doing the same thing,I got it 2 days ago worked fine but today everytime i plug in the desk top it will shut it down. I plug it to my lap top it worked but i'm affraid that it will do the same thing again after a while. I have a feeling that there is some problem with itunes, if my computer is the problem why did it work fine at the begining. When I uninstalled the itunes and plug the ipod it starts charging but the computer did not shut down. I did some research and it seems that a lot of people having the same problem.

  • IPad Photo Transfer: Windows Vista Digital Still Camera Driver Failed

    Hi,
I am trying to transfer photos from my iPad to my laptop. When I plug it in to the laptop the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver installs successfully and the Digital Still Camera driver fails. I have previously transferred photos in this way without any problem. When I plug the iPad in to the laptop it does not show up in 'my computer', the iPad is on and the screen is unlocked. Autoplay is on but no menu appears to transfer the photos. The photos I want to transfer have been taken on the iPad. It shows up in iTunes as normal. I can transfer photos from my iPhone to the laptop without a problem.
    This is what I've tried:
    - uninstall iTunes and reinstall
    - restart the computer
    - turn iPad on and off
    - uninstall and reinstall apple device driver (even though it was up to date and said to be working as usual)
    - plugged it in to an old laptop (windows xp) and it worked as expected
    - checked for usbappl.syn in C:\Windows\system32\drivers and it is present
    - uninstalled all Apple content from my laptop and reinstalled it all again
    - repaired the Apple Mobile Device Support program
Any help would be much appreciated, it is driving me crazy!

    Hi
I've had similar problem with my Iphone 8gb 1.1.2 OTB and Windows Vista right from when i purchased it. I tried calling Apple support and tried out all the things that you've done so far and got fed up with it. Now I download my pictures using a third party software called TouchCopy. Apple was not able to identify the issue but it certainly an issue with the OS and not the Iphone. It works like a breeze with my Windows XP PC at home but my laptop doesn't recognize it and it just gives "device installation failed". But curiously for sometime like 15 days ago, the device driver got installed but still I didn't get the camera icon in MY Computer... So if somebody could help... great!!!
And Hail Vista because I've had several driver issues like these and my antivirus is OneCare so I don't think Microsoft could complain about my installations.
    Cheers

  • LabVIEW toolkit for digital still camera - PTP protocol based

    Dear List,
Just to let you know that a LabVIeW toolkit for PTP

still camera and scanner, it does not require camera
vendor extra special drivers (unlike Twain)and it's OS
independant, thus being supported widely in modern

  • Syncing Trouble - "Digital Still Camera"

For months now I've not been able to sync the pictures from my iphone back to my computer. Whenever I plugged it into the USB port I got a dialogue asking to install the "Digital Still Camera" and never being able to find a driver. Looking on the web lots of people seem to report this problem and seem to isolate it to a driver called usbaapl.sys, however I have discovered this is not the rogue driver.
If you are getting the "Digital Still Camera" problem then you are missing a driver from the /Windows/System32 directory called ptpusb.sys, which has a sister file called ptpusd.sys.
In my case the ptpusB.sys file was missing but either or both could be missing from your computer. Simply copy them from a machine that syncs correctly to your /windows/system32 folder and plug in your iphone. All should work again!
    Posted for information.

I have been having the same problem of not being able to access the digital camera on the Iphone for several months as well. In windows the driver would not be installed and could not be found anywhere. I reinstalled itunes, reapplied XP SP3, and called apple technical support to no avail. Everything worked fine on other computers. I finally corrected this issue by copying several files from a working computer to my main computer. the files are:
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbscan.sys
    c:\windows\system32\ptpusb.dll
    c:\windows\system32\ptpusd.dll
    c:\windows\inf\ptpusb.inf
I then registered the ptpusb.dll file opening a command prompt and navigating to the c:\windows\system32 directory. The command I used to register the file was:
    regsrv32 ptpusb.dll
I then right clicked on the ptpusb.inf file and clicked Install. I am not positive that you have to register the dll with windows since you are installing it, but that is what I did and it worked so I included it. That is pretty much it. I plugged the phone into a different USB slot and in windows found the correct driver and installed the phone. You might have to go into device manager and uninstall the current driver for windows to recognize the phone as a camera and for god sakes if you have a passcode on your phone unlock the phone. Now if I could only figure out what caused these files to disappear in the first place. I hope this helps someone.

  • Digital Still Camera/ Non working apps

First when I try downloading apps on my 2nd gen ipod they don't download. This is on multiple apps(wifinder, myspace, etc). It works fine on my other friends itouch's(same gen and everything). Then not on mine. Also when I plug up my ipod with the latest software and it comes up as digital still camera. So if you would please help, thanks.

for some reason things downloaded directly to the iPod touch, while appearing to go through the full download process, they don't appear on the iPod. it's the same with podcasts. sometimes the only way to do it is by downloading them in iTunes and then synching them.
compters also sometimes seem to recognise the ipod touch as a digital still camera, its something to do with the fact that, unlike other ipods, the touch and iphone can't be used as external hard drives. it should still come up fine in iTunes though.

  • Control Digital Still camera with Applescript?

While Canon (for example) provide an app to tether their cameras and make them take and upload pictures to a Mac, it does not appear that I can use Applescript to control that program.
I need to write custom script to take picture with a High resolution still camera, so I can call that script from a FileMaker Pro database application.
What High quality still camera have an API I can control form AS: or what other approach would work?

If an app has a scripting dictionary it will be in the list if you go to File>Open Dictionary, I personally don't know any but I think it is highly unlikely for a developer to bother with this kind of app.

  • IMovie edit video from digital still cameras...

The information states that you can edit video from you still digital cameras. Access it through the media browser. There is an option for iPhoto videos, but when I try to look there my videos are not there. It appears they did not add any functionality or import feature of previously unsupported videos. Most all SONY digital cameras record video as MPEG1 Muxed, 640 x 480 pixels. I can play them in QT but still can not edit them in iMovie.
    Am I missing something?

Barry, this is from Apple's page New in iMovie08
    *Expanded format support.*
iMovie supports standard and high definition video, as well as the most popular formats, including DV, HDV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and even AVCHD.
Looks like MPEG-1 is not supported

  • Organizing digital still camera video clips

    Hi all,
I found a new use for iTunes (at least for me). I like digital photography and have 3 Panasonic Lumix digital cameras: FZ1, FZ20, and LX1. Both the FZ1 and FZ20 do 320x240 videos but the LX1 can do 640x480 and 848x480 videos. Now that I've found a way to keep these video clips organize, I am going to start taking more video clips along with the normal still pictures. BTW, Panasonic uses the QT .mov movie format for its videos.
I like that way I can assignn genres (Vacation, Nature, Sports, etc.), group albums (Alaska 2003, Hummingbirds 2006 Fall, etc.) and add meta normal ID3 tags. And, I like the "group with artwork" mode for videos.
Right now, I jsut have one queston. It looks like iTunes puts all video clips into one directory:
    S:\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\iTunes Movies
How do I get iTunes to organize video like it does with music (i.e. Auther -> Album?
    Thanks,
    Steven

OK, I found out how to convert the AVI files to MOV. I found a program called SUPER:
    http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
Best of all, it is free! I've converted the videos (AVI) from my now deceased Casio camera to the MP4 format for iTunes.
I still want the Movie library to use the same folder structure as the Music library does. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Steven

  • IPhone detected as a"digital still camera" and will not show in itunes

    Hi
My friend bought a 16gb iphone today and when he plugs it into his pc it comes up with auto play and a list of things you can do (obviously the wrong driver) it is not shown in itunes. So far we have re installed itunes, restarted the device, restarted the services but nothing seems to be working.
He has a windows vista laptop and 16gb iphone, latest itunes.
    Any suggestions

    magic_man,
The iPhone reports itself as two devices, a Digital camera, and an iPhone.
The digital camera will use the standard digital camera driver.
The iPhone will use the iPhone driver, and is then handled by the Apple Mobile Device Service that must be running for iTunes to see the iPhone. With 64-bit Vista if you don't install the 64-bit version of iTunes, it won't be running. There are other situations where it may have been stopped in services, or prevented from updating by security software on the computer.
The article linked in the thread has some suggestions for making sure the Apple Mobile Device service is running correctly.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Digital Still Camera? Come on..

2 DAYS NOW, AND I'VE BEEN HAVING NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH MY ITOUCH! Come on, Apple. Now the latest problem, in which I have had, is getting my computer to sync with my iTouch. It won't sync, and the computer sees it as a digital camera. What do I do?!

Remember, this is a user-to-user forum and it's a Saturday. It may take longer than 17 minutes to get an answer.
If I recall correctly, it may be a drive letter assignement issue. However, I'm not really a Windows user so I could be wrong. However the problem has come up before so, while you're waiting, I'd suggest trying to search the discussions. Use the box at the upper right under "Search Discussions" as opposed to the one at the very top right that just says Search.
    Best of luck.
