Digitization setup?

I need to capture using a SONY J3 SDI Digital BetaCam Player. I want to use Premiere CS4. The end result should be h.264 mp4s with a bitrate of 23 Mbit/s. What hardware is needed?

yes that is exactly what I am telling you.  Since the dawn of cable tv that required a box back in the 1980s if you had a cable box connected to your set up you could only record what the cable box channel was set for and could never use the vhs timer to change channels.  My mom complained about this for the past 30 years.  To do what you want to do now, you will need a dvr or a tivo device. sorry to be the bearer of bad news.   the thing is this the tuner in the vcr only sees what signal is sent to it. since you now need the box it only gets send the signal from the cable box, so if the box is on channel 4 and you tell the vhs to record channel 7 there is nothing on seven as the vcr needs to be on three to get the feed from the cable box.   This is nothing new we have been headed here for a long time.   Now its just another time to upgrade.  Like you did from 8 track to cassette and from there to cd and now to mp3  and blue ray, they dont even make vhs anymore.   and the tapes are now not being produced.

  • I need to digitalize an already captured analog heart rate profile

I am trying to find a simple solution to digitalize heart rate profile printouts.
I have numerous graphs containing heart rate variability over time and need to digitalize these to statistical purposes.
Does Labview or any other NI software have this capabilty?

Playing around with your digitizer setup can help a lot.
I suggest a simple scanner if it can be done on a letter sized  (A4) paper for a first try.
You can download the vision tool for a 30 days try out,  can save a lot of time
But like with every tool: Your faster and get better results if you know how to use it.
I'm afraid  the printouts have different style so you might have to choose different strategies or setups to get good result.
However the best idea is to call your local NI support. Look if there is a trade show or other NI event near by and take a memory stick or CD with some scans. These people seems to love ad hook challenges

  • Cannot capture Hi8 run through digitizer

Bought FCE2 installed with Mac g5 a few years ago only to capture and copy to DVD old video - Hi8 and DV. It virtually never worked. Dozens of hours trying every conceivable combo of settings. When I hit NOW, it either 1] gave "General Error," froze, wouldn't close or force quit without restarting, or 2] appear to be capturing for 5 minutes 13 seconds (consistently), then freeze, yielding a file of 21.27 GB (when "Limit capture" was set to 100 minutes) that was labelled Quicktime Movie, but would not play.
But about once a year, it successfully captured an hour or so of DV tape or Hi8 tape run through a Sony TRV950 with "A/V>DV OUT" set to "ON." That is, I play the Hi8 tape in an analog camcorder running its output into the TRV950 set to digitize it. Output from 950 goes to computer. I got playable Quicktime movies from both Hi8 and DV tapes.
With resentment, because I paid for FCE2 to work, I bought the upgrade to FCE4. It is working reliably to capture DV tape (but not export it), but it will not capture the Hi8 run through the Sony digitizing feature. When I hit NOW, I get the large black rectangle and "Waiting for timecode." But never get past that. I am using the identical setup as with FCE2 during the very rare occasions on which it functioned normally. The Hi8 tapes have a timecode, the same type that occasionally worked with FCE2.
Any helpful insights from the experienced?
For capture scratch, I use a second internal HD - 750 GB with 32 MB cache. I have also tried a large external HD and the Mac's primary HD. Same result.
    Thanks for your time.

    Great news TT.
    1. With the new Setup setting, I have successfully captured a long Hi8.
An Easy Setup change only effects NEW Projects. DV Converter is the correct Easy Setup for use where a NON-Controllable device is being used.
    2. On my newly installed second internal drive, I formatted as Extended (journalled). I do not know >the formatting of the main Mac internal drive.
Right/Option Click on your system drive icon on the Desktop and select Get Info from the menu.
What is the significance of these two items?
Anti-virus apps can think your incoming footage is nasty and tries to block it. iSight if active is competing for a chunk of incoming video.

  • How to setup SCXI1127 in scanner mode with NI-DAQmx

    Hi,
I have 2 1127 mux cards in my SCXI frame and a digitizer/DVM in my PC. I am planning to perform a scan on selected channels across both cards using synchronous scanning ( I cannot get handshaking to work ). I found some examples but they are all using initialization string that looks like this: "SCXIn::i,j:CANNER", but that only works with NI-DAQ legacy not NI-DAQmx where my instrument is just called SC1. I do not know how to set it up with NI-DAQ legacy, it will not give me that option ( using NI-MAX I can setup SCXI-1000 but not PCI-4070 ). Also I do not know how to initialize the NI-SWITCH driver so I have it as one instrument with one instrument handle. I am using NI-DMM, NI-SWITCH 3.0, NI-DAQmx 8.0 and MS Visual C++ Express.
    Thank you,
    Jerry.

    Jerry,
This is Travis over at NI.
There are example programs for doing synchronous scanning that ship
with the NI-SWITCH driver.  You can access them at
    Start>>Programs>>National
    Instruments>>NI-SWITCH>>Examples>>C.  Choose
    "niSwitchDMMSwitchSynchronousScanning."  Your resource name will
be the same as the your resource name in DAQmx.  Please direct any
    further questions to Minh.
Thanks, Jerry.  Have a great day!

  • Hard reset 30 times to get my Digitizer working would like to get answer

I bought Palm TX which worked very good for six days, once I had pulled the SD card out the palm froze so I did soft reset with no results. Then I did hard reset when it comes to digitiser screen it goes on and on endless in a loop. I tried hard reset 30 times to get my palm working properly. Can any one explain what the cause would be to avoid this happening next time. I am using the palm with the only one external software "Hand D Base v4.0" . No other software is loaded. Need help
    Post relates to: Palm TX

If you hard reset the TX, according to the directions in the link I provided, It will erase all data and 3rd party programs. After the hard reset it sets the device back to factory defaults and would not have any 3rd party programs on the device, thus if it is looping immediately after the hard reset, there is another cause of the looping.
There may be some kind of debris on the screen between the screen and the case of the device. Take a business card or folded piece of paper, insert it between the edge of the screen and the case. Move it around the perimeter of the screen and see if you can get out any debris. If there is no debris, it is probably the digitizer on the screen and the device will need to be replaced.
The powerdigi program must be installed on the TX. If it won't get past the calibration screen, you will not be able to sync the program to the device.
If you just bought the TX, it is still under warranty for 1 year from date of purchase. You can call Palm handheld support at 813-313-4913 and setup a replacement or take it back to the store where you purchased the TX.

  • FCP & QuickTime DvcPro HD Digitizer 720p 25 for PAL Big World Missing!!!!

    Now,
after I've been days on DvxUser forum, tried various solution found there I'm ending up with a simple question as an HVX200 user:
    - What's the problem with the PAL Huge World, Apple? As far as I know my International clients when ask for an Ntsc copy is for US or Japan (the other few that use it are out of the big Business).
    - So WHY Apple, that is in the video/film business since the begging of NLE systems, always forget? or it's late in developping Pal solutions?
    From Panasonic Q&A P2 site:
Q5 : Can the AG-HVX200 output the SD or HD signal through the IEEE1394 terminal?
A : The AG-HVX200 can output the SD or HD signal through the IEEE1394 terminal according to the menu setting.
Select the format in the "REC FORMAT" item of CAMERA menu.
In the native format, 720/24PN, 720/25PN or 720/30PN, the AG-HVX200 cannot output the signal of camera picture through the IEEE1394 terminal. In this case, record a picture on a P2 card once and then playback it.
When output the signal recorded on the P2 card, the signal is output through the IEEE1394 terminal in its recorded format and cannot be output through the IEEE1394 terminal in the up-converted format or the down-converted one.
    - The only easy setup for Log & Capture DVCPRO HD is 1080i50. That's it!
    - While in Ntsc has 1080i60 and all 720p: 24/30/60.
Even with the Sequences setup!! Thanks to some guys that wrote a great pdf and also an Xml file for a sequence 720p 25 and 50...
So the HUGE World of Pal users has to help themself....
Hopefully if these 30 glorious years are just the begging, the next will be also HD PAL years!!
    piero

    Hi Shane,
thanks for your point of view, I always appreciate your advices in this forum.
Back to issue, the problem is Capture (digitizer) that is limited to 1080i50 not for Compressor (if you look inside the Capture Preset 1080i 50), so you can't use any other option than P2 card or Firestore to get the other HD Pal formats.
I also want to share (may be someone else already did it, but as in latin "Repetita juvant") the link on that helpful site on FCP and DvcPro HD, and Hvx200 also. He has done a great job for all of us pal'ers:
    http://www.aulich-adamski.de/wp-content/720p50HVX200en.pdf
    So the points are:
    - The world is going HD? Yes! So our business!
    - ok Hdv has been adopted by major prosumer camera maker.
    - the DvcPro HD Pal codec is not that new (the Varicam, the 900, etc).
    - the HVX200 in just few months, as you can read on DvxUser forum, is very popular in all of the application (indie, commercial, music video, doc, feature film or tv series) and the results are very good.
    - Is FCP a pro application? Yes, so...support professional people.
    - It's much more easier to work in FCP with DvcPro codec than Hdv.
    - I've seen many posts of Hvx users that were asking for a live capture solution apart from Firestore and similar. We are in that group, as we've to shoot hours of live content.
    - The new Mac Book Pro cannot (by now) accept P2 Cards 'cause the express slot. So we were buying two of them for HD work but we put them on hold and keep the PBook. So the alternative for MBP is capturing live via firewire, but limited in Pal market.
    - Last but not least: Panasonic DvcPro HD Fcp plugin Frame Converter (for VFR) does NOT work in Pal even if you capture through P2 card.
May be is also Panasonic that is slow in updating Pal tools, who knows, but the only other alternative (that you can find on the site above) is using a Component HD card to capture the other formats, that means that you have to carry in studio/location at least a G5...
Finally, as I'm not a developper: does it take that long and is that heavy work to translate a QT digitizer codec from 24p to 25p? or from 60 to 50?
I'm pretty sure that if you do an online poll for Hvx users to pay 5 euro each one to have that codecs done by some developper, they will !!!
    Take care,

  • Urgent problem! please help. high speed digitizer, channel switch time too long!

Dear all NI high speed digitizer experts:
I post a question concerning the two-channel configuration using NI5154 digitizer (see Need help to configure a two-channel acquisition using NI5154 ).
As we need to do some measurement using NI5154 very soon so purchase a DAQ board as suggested by Efrain is not a option for our coming experiment. So I try to configure the NI5154 a two channel acquisition. I configure the NI5154 to count pulse in two channels. Our experimental setup will send pulse to channel 0 for 400 ms and then stop. 100 ms later pulses from other source will be send to channel 1 for 2 s.  I thought the 100ms dead time in our setup would be long enough for the digitizer to switch from channel 0 to channel 1. But after some test I found the digitizer takes more time to switch between channels.
I made a test vi (NISCOPE-Timing.vi) just for count how many ms it takes for the digitizer to switch between channels. In the attached vi, if you run for only one channel one loop takes about 20 ms in my pc. If you run for two channels it takes about 130 ms for one loop. If you just run one channel twice the loop time is about 40 ms (I mean stop a channel and then restart the that channel).
I don't understand why it takes so long to switch from channel 0 to channel 1.  As I tested the niScope Commit.vi consumes a lot of time for the second channel. Is there any way to avoid this? We can not extend the 100ms long dead time of out set up so I must get rid of this problem.

    Hi Lixin,
There are a couple of different options that you may try. The first, which it sounds like you may not prefer, is to use the TRIG line on the 5154 and somehow find a way to route both sets of pulses to that line. You can either somehow connect both lines to the one input or use some sort of external switch since the signals will not come in at the same time.
Unfortunately, what you re seeing in terms of the time it takes the board to reconfigure itself for a different trigger channel and re-inititiate is due to the settling time that is necessary for the board to be able to fully reach its specifications. The majority of settling usually occurs pretty quickly, but the board will wait for some time to get the best possible performance in terms of specs. If you are okay with reducing this settling time (and very slightly diminish the specified performance), then you can use an internal scope property to set the max settling time.
I have attached a .rc file which must be placed in the LabVIEW directory for niScope to enable use of this property node. Please place the file in your ...\Program Files\National Instruments\<LabVIEW 2009>\instr.lib\niScope directory. Once the file is in that directory, restart LabVIEW, and you should be able to see a new category in the niScope Property Node tree titled "Internal". Under that category, you will have the Max Settling Time property, which gives the driver a maximum amount of time (in seconds) to wait for settling before beginning a new acquisition. Add this new property to your first property node at the beginning of your program. I tested this out with a value of 50 ms and found that my initiate went from ~125 ms to ~53 ms or so after reconfiguring the trigger channel and re-initiating.
    Hope this helps!

  • Digitize Beta tape with Sony UVW 1800 Betacam SP deck

    Hi guys
I'm trying to digitize Beta tape with using Sony UVW 1800 Betacam SP deck. We've tried so many ways but still no luck.....If anybody has successful experience with this, please share the wisdom...!!!
I wrote what we've tried so far.
From Sony UVW 1800 Betacam sp deck to Sony media converter DVMC-DA2:
-S video cable, From BNC to RCA video cable, Audio cable connected with RCA cable.
(I've tried S video cable and BNC-RCA video cable at a time and one at a time.)
From Sony media converter DVMC-DA2 to Macbook pro:
    -Firewire 400w/ firewire 800
    FCP 7 settings:
    -DV-NTSC easy setup
-Device control preset: We've tried Non controllable device, Firewire NTSC, Sony RS-422
Sony UVW 1800 betacam sp Settings:
    -VTR setting(Local/Remote) is on Local
Sometimes we've also tried Keyspan adapter with keyspan driver. Keyspan serial assistant found Keyspan device but doesn't seem like I can have deck control on my mac...We used Rs422 cable to Mini din8 cable to connect Betacam deck and Keyspan.
But in FCP, it keep saying 'no communication'....sometimes it says 'not threaded'.
We've hooked Betacam Deck to Sony monitor to see if we can see pictures but we can't see anything or hear anything.....We can see just timecode. We have PVM-14N6U monitor and we used BNC cable to connect those.
Again, if anyone knows any small thing about this problem, please help me.
    Thank you!!!!
    P.S:
Even about cheap and good Betacam repair shop info is really helpful to me...!:)
Does anybody know any store which can offer service like sending a person to fix Betacam deck?
    Thanks again!!

    OK...this hits me:
We've hooked Betacam Deck to Sony monitor to see if we can see pictures but we can't see anything or hear anything.....We can see just timecode. We have PVM-14N6U monitor and we used BNC cable to connect those.
You connect the deck to a monitor and don't see or hear anything.  OK...is the deck WORKING? Perhaps you can't capture anything because you aren't getting a signal from the deck.  The deck will have 2 possible outputs....BNC that's a COMPOSITE signal (meaning SD video, a complete, but low end video signal), and three separate ones known as COMPOSITE...R-Y, B-Y and G-Y.  Try both of those on the monitor. There's also one called SUPER. This is a COMPOSITE signal that also displays timecode.  If you can see timecode on the monitor, that means you are plugged into this. BUT, if you see timecode and no video image...that means that the tape is bad, or the video heads are bad....because you are getting a video signal from the deck, but no image from the tape.
So we aren't even talking about the Sony converter...right now just trying to get a good signal...and you can't even do that, right? Might need to try another deck.

  • Dropped Frames during digitize

It's been awhile since I've had to trouble shoot, apologies if this is a novice question.
Trying to digitize plain old miniDV through Firewire, nothing fancy, has worked consistently until today, when I received this error after two trys of the deck
cueing up and trying to capture footage:
"Dropped frames were detected during the last capture attempt"
I've tried using different external drives as well as my desktop as the target drive to no avail.
I ran Disc Utility on my main Mac HD, to no avail.
I've checked other tapes, and I get the same error on everything. Even DV tapes that have worked in the past.
Any insights or hints of what to check or change would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    ok more details.
Capturing from a consumer Panasonic camera, using Panasonic tapes.
    Easy setup: DV-NTSC (NTSC 29.97)
tried using Device Control FIREWIRE NTSC and FIREWIRE NTSC BASIC, neither worked
there is enough drive space, and I have to run out and buy another FW cable.
I'm just mystified, this set up has been tried and true for over a year.
The only thing that is different is I updated the Mac OS to 10.5.6 and hope
there is no correlation with that.
    thanks.

  • How do you capture IQ data with RFSA vi's triggering from ext trg on digitizer?

I am trying to write an application using RFSA vis that will capture IQ data when triggered from the external trigger port on the digitizer card.  This does not seem to be supported by the RFSA vis and I am not sure how to integrate ni-Scope and niRFSA in one application.

    Hi Jltetzlaff,
The Clk in and Clk out ports on the 5142 can be used to input and
export a reference clock.  You can import this as your sample clock
source over the Clk in by using a simple property node.  This is
assuming your using LabVIEW.  My main concern is regarding your clock.
If you take a look at page 20 of the reference manual here:
http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/374300c.pdf, you can see the PFI lines
follow a very specific digital logic specification (TTL).  It looks like your
signal won't be recognized properly by these lines.  The lines require
a voltage above 2.0V to register high.  There is no minimum frequency
on these PFI lines.  The problem is the logic levels.  My
recommendation would be to export a start trigger with your AWG to
begin the RFSA session.  If I'm misunderstanding the setup, could you
please give more details on devices (model numbers), development
enviroment (LabVIEW etc.), and what connections you require.  From what
I understand, you want to sync the RFSA devices with the AWG and DUT.
Perhaps the session from the AWG that is generating the clock can also
export an event to start the AWG to start the RFSA device through PFI 0
or PFI 1.  This can be done using the niFGEN Export Signals.vi.  The
exported signals by this vi will follow the correct logic accepted by
the 5142 digitizer in the RFSA setup.
    I hope this helps,
    Paul C.

  • Trying to Trigger AWG off Digitizer (CVI)

I'm working with an NI Arbitrary Waveform Generator PXI-5421 and Digitizer PXI-5211.
Using CVI, I'd like to output a waveform with the AWG 500ms after the digitizer is triggered.
    Is this possible?
To attempt to setup the triggers, I've used the following two functions:
    niFgen_ConfigureDigitalEdgeStartTrigger (AWGHandle, "PXI_Trig1", NIFGEN_VAL_RISING_EDGE);
    niScope_ConfigureTriggerOutput (ScopeHandle, NISCOPE_VAL_START_TRIGGER_EVENT, NISCOPE_VAL_RTSI_1);
However, I've been unsuccessful in getting the ARB to output anything once the scope is triggered.
Am I missing any crucial steps or is this something that can't be done in the manner in which I am attempting?
    Thanks for your help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
I think I see the problem. What it appears is that you're configuring your digitizer and fgen properly if they were going to be run separately, except for one thing. In this section:
    ////    Config Digitizer    ////
//    Configure output trig for Digitizer to trigger AWG
        error |= niScope_ExportSignal (ScopeHandle, NISCOPE_VAL_START_TRIGGER, "", NISCOPE_VAL_RTSI_0);
you export the start trigger, which is actually sent immediately once you call the niScope_InitiateAcquisition() function. All of this is done before you configure your AWG, so the start trigger is already being sent before you call the niScope_InitiateGeneration() for the AWG. Also, I'm assuming that you actually want to trigger off of the reference trigger that you are configuring with your call of the niScope_ConfigureTriggerEdge() function. I have attached an image of the help file for that function.
There are two things you need to do to fix this.
    1. You need to change this line: //    Configure output trig for Digitizer to trigger AWG
        error |= niScope_ExportSignal (ScopeHandle, NISCOPE_VAL_START_TRIGGER, "", NISCOPE_VAL_RTSI_0);
to export the reference trigger instead: //    Configure output trig for Digitizer to trigger AWG
        error |= niScope_ExportSignal (ScopeHandle, NISCOPE_VAL_REF_TRIGGER, "", NISCOPE_VAL_RTSI_0);
    2. Also, you should move the niScope_InitiateAcquisition() function to be called after the niFgen_InitiateGeneration() function:
    //    Enable AWG output
        error |= niFgen_ConfigureOutputEnabled (AWGHandle, "0", VI_TRUE);
        //    Arm output
        error |= niFgen_InitiateGeneration (AWGHandle);
    //    Begin digitizer acquisition
        error |= niScope_InitiateAcquisition (ScopeHandle); "
I think that should take care of it.

  • Get PXI digitizer information

    Hello,
How can I get information with LabView about the PXI digitizer I am using, like its name (e.g. PXI5122), gain and number of bits or V/LSB ?
I see that some of this info is available in VI "niScope Fetch Binary 16", but I would like to get the info before fetching any waveforms (to write a setup file).  Also, that particular VI doesn't seem to provide the digitizer name.  I can find the resource name, but that returns a slot, which is not exactly what I want, since we may move the digitizer around.
I am using LabView 8.0 on Windows XP.
    Philippe
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Philippe,
If I understand, does it mean the LSB (Least Significant Bit) ? One LSB is the voltage change increment corresponding to an LSB change in the digital value :
1 LSB = Input Range of ADC / Gain
                            2number  of ADC bits
For example, the AT-MIO-16X can settle to +- 0.5 LSB (or
+- 76.3 µV) using a gain of 1 and an input range of 10 V.
    +-
    0.5 LSB =  ( 10/1 ) *0.5 =     5        = +- 76.3 µV
                              216
                65,536
Otherwise if your first problem is solved, please mark this thread as solved and post a new thread with your question.

  • Another T/X malfunction question: digitizer?

I've been using Palm since 2004, first a Tungsten E, then an E2, now a T/X.  When I purchased the T/X it worked fine, but then began to develop system problems which I searched this site to find answers to.  I came across a good suggestion to do a warm reset and followed those instructions.
The first screen that came up after resetting was the digitizer, whereupon I attempted to press the centers of the targets.   The lower right corner target zeroed successfully.  The upper left corner target would not budge until I pressed the distal (farthest) end of the stylus icon.  The center target zeroed successfully.   However, instead of continuing with the setup, the T/X kept looping back to the same digitizer screen and has stuck on it ever since despite continued reset attempts, cleaning the corners of the screen, etc.
    Any suggestions?
    Post relates to: Palm TX

If you have warm reset the device, and have removed any screen protectors, cleaned between the screen frame and the screen (using the corner of a business card) and you still cannot pass the digitizer alignments screen your digitizer you need to try a hard reset. All data on this device will be lost after the hard reset. If the hard reset does not work your digitizer has failed and you will need to perform a repair on this device.
Here are the steps to perform a hard reset:
    You may need to hard reset your device and rename your backup folder. Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Next before you hotsync your data back over you will need to rename your backup folder, to do that go here;
    XP
C:\program files\palm or palm one\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
    folder to backup.old
    Vista
Start-->documents\Palm OS Desktop\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
    folder to backup.old
Then hotsync to your current hotsync name and all your contacts, calendar,
tasks, and memos will come back over.
Show file extensions for XP or Vista
    XP
If you can not view file extensions on your PC I would like you to open a
folder go to Tools-->Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.
    Vista
Open control Panel go to Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.

  • Suggestions for digitizer streaming project - PXIe-5122

    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    Hello All,
    Hello All,
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
I need to work out a streaming solution for a 5122. I need to stream a "single" large record post  triggered from a 5442 AWG via the backplane. The 5122 and the 5442 will be synched via Tclock. Checking some of the more straightforward examples (Fetch Forever and Fetch Forever with a digital trigger ) seem to trick the hardware  by using the prefetch memory and prefetch arming trigger that doesn't seem to be applicable here.

The streaming would be at full digitizer speed (100MS/s) over a x8 MXIe link to the PC.

My first guess is that I will need to setup a process based on Mutli Record Fetch More than Available Memory and then compile everything back together post acquisition. I am just checking to see if I am on the right track. If so I wil head a bit farther down that road.

    Hey blakney,
It sounds like you are on the correct path to me. That is the best example because you are going to fill up memory really quickly at those rates.

  • How can I setup a mail-specific passcode/restriction on iPad used by multiple family members?

How can I setup a mail-specific passcode/restriction on iPad used by multiple family members?
Have an Exchange mail account setup and accessible in my mail on iPad... however my kids use it and i would like to restrict them from accessing this specific portion of the device.  I tried viewing restriction options and do not see that i can apply a restriction specifically to Mail.  Thanks for your help.

Not a feature of iOS. Check the AppStore to see if there are other
mail apps that allow passcode protection.
Or use Safari to log onto your email via a web-based interface and
enter your credentials each time. A bit slower, but the kids will
not know the details to login.
