Digitize resolutions offline workflow without rendering

Hello Guys,
one more question with offline resolutions: we are trying to digitize miniDV material over SDI or DigiBeta over SDI (blackmagic decklink and the other workstation is equiped with Kona LH) in OfflineRT. Whatever we do to store our material offline and work offline we have to render it completely and miss audio. With 10Bit PAL or NTSC no Problem. What is wrong?? Thank you very much for an answer.

mmmmmm.... Try opening the capture preset editor for DV to OfflineRT. (Duplicate it) then select the digitizer to be your Kona card... might just work like a charm! I can select it from there... I'd think you can too.
You'd probably want the 8 or 10 bit digitizer set... and your Kona control panel you simply leave alone. dunno about the Decklink gear.
Seems to me it might work just fine, and the Decklink gear might also work.
You'll end up with a custom capture preset for 8 or 10 bit uncompressed to OfflineRT that way.

Dropped frames / preview without rendering - A few questions

Hey guys,
I'm pretty new to video. I'm a photographer, but I've been getting into video a little bit recently. I shot a music video last weekend and I'm trying to edit it now. I was originally using these settings for my timeline based on the suggestions of a tutorial I found online. I'm shooting with a 5d mk ii, 24p.
System settings
RT - Safe
Video quality - low
Frame rate - full
I was originally using h.264, but I was encountering problems with dropped frames, and I read on here that it was better to use another codec so I switched to pro res 422. Now I'm having the issue that I'm unable to preview my video files without rendering, which is kind of time consuming and annoying. How can I set up my timeline to preview without rendering, while still using a supported codec?

Can a project be saved on a dvd without rendering or encoding?

Can I save the data of my project on a dvd or cd without rendering it, encoding it or transcoding it? and then be able to load it again with losing any files?

I'm not clear on exactly what you wish to save to writable media. If it's just your Project file (.PRPROJ), then the answer is yes. This would be a data CD, or DVD. These files are not very big, so a CD would probably work fine.
Now, if you wish to "archive" your Project, complete with the media files, you probably need a bunch of DVD's as these files will be in raw form and not compressed. Project Manager can be used to "archive" your Project, but you will very likely want to do this to a large HDD, and not to writable media.
Also, I might be missing what you want completely.

Exporting unrendered AE comp from PP without rendering

Can I import a complex unrendered AE CS4 composition into Premiere Pro CS4, add a sound file, and export it in H.264 or any other format without rendering it in Premiere Pro first?
I already started the export in Media Encoder. After 45 minutes, it says there are still about 6 hours to go. My projects drive is picking up an MP4 file (0 bytes), an MP4 video file (52kb), and an ADTS audio file (8kb). Will it work?

Personally...I would have created an Intermediate in AEFX then used that in PPro.
This is a way of checking that AEFX did its job properly and eliminates a lot of rendering during encoding processes..

Starting Workflow without a Task ID

Hi All,
Is there a way to start a workflow without having a Task ID? Is there an alternate way? Is there a BAPI/FM or an SAP Transaction to accomplish this?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi developer,
I am not sure whether I have understood your requirement, but if your workflow is event driven, that is has a Start Event, then you can trigger/start the workflow by manually triggering the event by calling the function module SWE_EVENT_CREATE.
You can also start workflows from transaction SWUI,

Check if SWB_COND has been configured correctly to trigger the BID workflow without approval.
Test this workflow using SWUD and also, test the event triggering using SWU0.
If this is correct, workflow should be triggered.

Sorry, there is no way to track your phone. Call your carrier, & if they offer blacklisting, have them blacklist your phone.
Since you're running iOS 7.0. the phone is useless to anyone but you, as it cannot be re-activated without knowing your Apple ID/Password.

Capturing digital audio and editing without rendering?

We have a collection of LDs and VCRs that need to be converted to DVD. For this purpose, I purchased a Canopus ADVC 300 which appears to be working great.
The perfectionist that I am, I'm using Optical Digital Audio to import audio from the LD Player directly into my Mac Pro.
(Interesting note here. While FCE is incapable of importing video from one source and audio from another, QuickTime Player X is very capable. FCE is officially behind the times. There is almost certainly an upgrade in the works.)
I can import the video from the Canopus directly into FCE. The digital audio has to be captured by something else; I'll probably use SoundTrack (the non-Pro version comes with FCE).
The digital tracks are 44.1 kHz 24 bit (integer), but FCE does not have an option for this offering only 48 kHz 32 bit floating point instead.
Q. What do I need to do to be able to use the audio in FCE without rendering?
Additionally, even if I import the movie made with QuickTime Player X, the sound will not play in FCE; the 44.1 kHz difference?
Q2. I plan on buying an AC3-RF Demodulator to decode the 5.1 AC3 audio from LDs which make this audio available. Does anyone know which program I'll need to capture all of the tracks for consequent use in FCE?

If you have QuickTime Pro, you should be able to open the audio files in QT Player, then export them at the sample rate which matches your FCE Sequence. FWIW, many of my students use CD audio (@44.1kHz) in their FCE projects with success, despite my urging to convert the sample rates so that everything matches. They are, however, working with just a few minutes of audio which is not synched to their video.

How do you render specific parts of timeline without rendering the whole sequence? cs5

New to CS5 Premiere pro, im trying to render certain sections of my timeline without rendering the whole timeline, in Avid you would just mark in and mark out the area you wanted to render, is there something similar to that or do you always have to render the whole timeline?

Place Work Area Bar over the part of the timeline you want to render and then hit Sequence/Render Whole Work Area.
If you mean Export also place work area bar over section and make sure in the export settings, Source Range (bottom left) is set to Work Area.

PREVIEW WITHOUT RENDERING

G"Day Premier 7 Elements fans. I was wondering if it is possible to view a project without rendering.
Let me explain.
To check whether or not Main Markers such as new markers and stop markers have been done properly can one watch all our project without rendering and saving to DVD. This way I don't have to ruin another DVD.

Initiating workflows - without check in

Hi,
Is there any way to initiate or start a workflow without check in a file or document.
I know, there is a criteria based workflows and basic workflows which starts only upon checking in a new document or creating a revision of the existing document.
But, our requirement is for having a Problem Reporting... where in, if there is any problem in an existing document (already checked in) then the user should be able to start a workflow with the existing document and in further processing of the workflow, the other users may change the document.
So, how to start a workflow without creating a new version or checking in the document.

You can check at creating a WF by change of metadata which can be done by the reviewing user . This will entail you to create a custom component that would create / initiate a workflow based on the metadata (custom one) which will act as trigger . This metadata can be a boolean one as well which would trigger a wf or be added to a existing workflow (if already started) when it is set to Yes .

How do I offline edit without L

Hi - Before switching from Vegas to FCP, I didn't know that you needed to save the exact folder contents from your card. Instead, I just copied the actual .mts files into a folder. Obviously, you can't encode using L&T. I have ClipWrap to transcode the mts files to Apple ProRes422 (HQ, LT, Proxy, etc). My question is this. After transcoding the mts files to ProRes422 (proxy) using ClipWrap and after adding and editing the files (proxy) in the Sequence, how do you reingest the media at a higher quality for final rendering? I can't see this as an option without using L&T. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

You'd have to convert ALL the footage to full resolution and then relink. And hope that it reconnects. Without the full card structure, you cannot do a proper offline/online workflow:

Online/offline workflow PPRO

I have experimented with 720x480 dv ntsc widescreen versions of my AVCHD files for editing/cutting on a laptop.....so that I can then move the drive over to my 6-core tower to then reconnect the AVCHD original files for final encoding at full res. I make my cuts/edits in a 720x480 dv ntsc widescreen seq.....then copy them and paste them into an AVCHD seq and reconnect .mts files without issue.
Problem: I do ALOT of multicam work. Would like to be able to "cut" the multicam on my laptop in DV NTSC but when I try to bring the nested multicam seq over into an AVCHD @ 1920x1080 I can't get the "cut" multicam to resize. Because I am unable to change the seq settings for the existing DV NTSC seq.
Am I missing something?
The only way I could get this to work was to import the NTSC files into the AVCHD seq. (which makes them appear smaller in the frame) and cut them there, then reconnect originals with no prob.
Is there a way to do multicam editing with the use of lower res files? without this resizing issue?

Allow me to give you what I believe to be a valid reason why I am being "impatient".
That was part of a well thought-out post that deserves a thoughtful reply. You have to realize that most people only spend a limited amount of time in the forum. Of those that do visit, only a select percentage will probably have the same type of media and workflow that you do. Of those, many will not have, or have had, the same problem(s) that you do. Of those that do, only a few may have a solution that worked for them. You have to give those few folks time to get to your post, read and understand it, and craft an answer.
You see many posts getting almost immediate replys. Most of those have one of two things in common: they're easy to answer by almost anyone because the folks posting are just getting started with Pr. Or the folks answering are members of the forum "regulars" who spend much more time here than the average member, have a ton of experience, and come across those questions pretty quickly after they've been posted.
Your question isn't run-of-the-mill, and these days, there aren't a whole lot of people who edit offline with Pr any more. I don't, which is why I couldn't help you out with technical info. It's just not part of my workflow. Plus, you posted at a time of day when the usual company of regulars didn't appear to be online. And once they got online, it's likely they had to wade through a ton of topics, further delaying any attention to yours.
So if you have hard questions that you expect will need advanced users to help you answer, you should expect to have to wait longer than than the new user who wants to know, "What sequence preset do I use?" And you have to be prepared for the possibility that no one knows the answer, or even where to start. Users like that will usually just not post anything, further adding to the appearance that you're being ignored.
As a Community Professional, which badge often indicates a forum moderator also, I advocated patience and lowered expectations because demanding a response in all caps so soon after your OP is poor forum etiquette, and may alienate what few users remain that may actually be able to help you.

Workflow without 'save as' and huge storage consumption.

I use Aperture & photoshp daily. Aperture no longer has 'save as' .. Photoshop hasn't, as yet followe suit, I am told. Very concerned about workflow changes incurring more complexity, more steps and hughe storage waste.
Current work flow: I open one of the apps, then an image, initiate a bunch of edits, 'save as' my final desired result. I now have 2 files, the UNTOUCHED original and the edited second image.
Several calls to Apple. They are not sure how the missing 'save as' works into this work flow, do not know how many more steps will be needed and how mush more complex. They did say, for the first time, now you have to check out each program to see how it's 'save as' concept will work... I guess and try to remember them all. WOW!
Also, with the 'versions' concept and processing raw images, instead of 2 files residing in memory at the end of the multiple edits, there will be a version for each edit step meaning there could be like 20, 50, even more huge files ... not wanted, not needed but consuming huge amounts of storage.
It was finally decided there had to be a way to purge all those unnecessary files to win back storage space. More work and how?
Their final assessment, you may not be able to proceed with Lion... with the future Mac's ongoing OS. I guess all photographers are at a loss then. Sad.
Is this hopefully just a bad dream??

The new Autosave/Versions paradigm is ideal for the situation you describe as “Current work flow”. It’s not a bit more complicated, it’s safer, and — if you can get past the fact that it is different from what you are used to — it is more logical. What you are doing is creating a new, modified copy of the original. So, open the original and Duplicate (File > Duplicate). That creates a new copy that you can edit, but it is treated like a new file, so when you close it, you get a Save As dialog. Or you can save it manually at any time just like any new file. No extra steps — just Duplicate at the beginning instead of Save As at the end.
I said it is safer. Consider the following: In your current work flow: by accident or absent mindedness, you mistakenly Save rather than Save As. Now your original is clobbered. Of course, if you are smart, you have a backup. Otherwise it is gone. In the new workflow you might forget to duplicate at the beginning. But it’s not too late! Go ahead and duplicate later. When you duplicate an edited file you get a dialog asking what to do with the original. The choices are to leave it in its edited state or to revert to its original state. Even if you close the file without duplicating it, you can still re-open it and revert using Versions.
As Pondini pointed out, you misunderstand how versions work. Versions are not files. It is more like a super sophisticated Undo. As you edit a file, only the latest version is saved in the file. Enough information to reconstruct intermediate versions is saved in a hidden versions database. So in your scenario, you still have only 2 files plus some information in the database. In general the versions information should be efficiently stored.
This is how Aperture has always worked. As Terence Devlin pointed out, no version of Aperture has ever had a Save or Save As command. I wouldn’t be surprised if Aperture served as an inspiration or testing ground for Autosave/Versions. I am a serious amateur photographer, and I am not the least bit sad. I think this is a great advancement.

How to implement workflow without UWL in portal?

Our project has a requirement where we have to implement workflow. We need to display notifications and workitems(approve or reject) in the enterprise portal. The problem is that the client says we cannot use UWL as its their policy.
My question is whether it is possible to create a workflow and execute the tasks in the portal without UWL. Is there any alternative like connectors or third party tools etc? please help asap

I had faced the same issue in my project.
In case you aren't able to use UWL you could directly call the transaction associated with SBWP(Sap Business WorkPlace) in the portal by calling the link associated with transaction SBWP.
for example in my case instead of Portal I had to work in BSP wherein I used this method by directly calling the link associated with SBWP.
the link as was used by me is:-
http://SAP Servername.com:8001/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui/!?sap-client=100&sap-user=sapuserid&sap-password=saplogin password&~transaction=sbwp
please note that you need change in the server name after Http:// in my case the server name was blrkecisbank.ad.infosys.com in your case it will be different. so try it out from your end and let me know whether you were able to get results.
