Digitized 8mm movie shows too fast in iMovie

Have successfully made an iMovie from digitized 8mm home movies. The conversion looks good except that the screening/viewing speed is too fast, and there doesn't seem to be way in iMovie to slow it down. The fast, jerky motion is sporadic -- maybe 50% of the movie.

I'm hopeful. Tried Movie HD and got frustrated with it. iMovie '08 is much more user friendly, too bad is missing some of the old good features.
In case you need it, here is a "Quickie" video tutorial showing how to use the "Movie Speed" option. Just remember, an entry of 1.000 is the current speed. Multiples of "1" are speed multiples (e.g., 4.000 would be four times as fast) and entry of fractions will produce slow speed output (e.g., 1/4 = 0.250 or one-fourth normal speed.)
The specific tutorial is JES DEINTERLACER TUTORIAL 001 and this is the HOME INDEX PAGE.

  • Movies are too fast. Any way to slow them globally?

    Hi, Everyone,
My subject matter expert thinks the movies move too quickly.
I thought I could just change the frame rate to 15 instead of 30,
but I didn't remember that Captivate is still considering seconds
instead of frames. I realize I could go into each slide in the
movies and add time to each caption and slide, but we're talking
15-20 movies that are 50-100 slides each! Can any of you think of
an easier way to slow everything down?
    Thanks,
    :) jess

  • Flash movies too fast with flash 10?

I have a website with some flash movies. they run at 30 FPS.
i recently installed a new version of flash and now my movies run
too fast. not too much fatser but enough to make a difference to my
audience. is this a feature of flash 10? what can i do to make sure
my viewers dont also have this problem??

Do you hear anything? Check your audio output. If it is set to hdmi, there's nothing to slow down the video and it plays too fast. Set the audio output to speakers and...voila!
This happened to me today. I had plugged in an external mic that used an A/D dongle (usb output) and it switched my audio output from speakers to hdmi somehow.  I could download flash movies as .webv and play them at regular speed with VLC, with no sound. I use Linux Mint 17, but I saw other forum posts where this happened on Windows and Ubuntu.

  • IMovie import plays WAY TOO FAST!

I am importing video from a DV (Sony DCR-HC96) straight into iMovie. The transition is smooth and recorded content plays in normal time from DV camera. During transition, the video appears in normal speed on the Mac.
However, when the import is completed -- and I try and PLAY the video on my Mac (MacBook Pro), the speed of the movie is SCREAMING FAST (16x-20x too fast.)
    Anybody feeling smart about this?
    Would really(!) appreciate your help....

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
When you say "transition" I think you mean "import" ..the process of passing the video from the camcorder into iMovie. (..A "transition" is generally something which you apply in iMovie; a means of changing from one video clip to another via a 'cross-fade' or a 'dissolve', etc..)
The specifications for this camera, on Sony's page (click on that blue link) and on Amazon's page both mention..
    "..Progressive Shutter System
A mechanical shutter system that provides progressive scan performance while utilizing an interlaced scanning system. Digital still images will be sharp and clear with excellent definition."
If you've shot your movie(s) using progressive recording (..using a shutter speed marked 'p', such as '30p' or '24p'..) then iMovie may play it back faster than normal. This is because iMovie normally expects DV to consist of two 'interlaced' fields of video (two sets of lines which each make up half-a-picture) instead of single full frames of video.
(..On the other hand, the "progressive" in the specifications may refer only to still photos; it's not easy to tell from the descriptions whether or not the video may be shot as progressive, too..)
If it's NOT playing fast because you've shot progressive video ('p') instead of interlaced video ('i'), then I can't think of a reason just now why it'd be playing fast ..sorry.

  • Is there a way to fast forward the movie clip, so it shows as fast forward.

Is there a way to fast forward the movie clip, so it shows as fast forward in the final clip, please help. (iMovie 08')

In iMovie 08 - the answer is no. It does not have the video fx that were in iMovie 06. You can get iMovie 06 as a free download, if you already have iLife '08. Then you have access to a much better programme for doing the editing tasks you want.

  • How do I export my iMovie '11 video and burn it to a DVD? I've tried 'Share' - 'Media Browser', 'iDVD', and 'Export Movie' but always get an error message indicating that my movie is too long to publish. Thoughts?

How do I export my iMovie '11 video and burn it to a DVD? I've tried 'Share' - 'Media Browser', 'iDVD', and 'Export Movie' but always get an error message indicating that my movie is too long to publish. Thoughts? Additionally, what does 'File' 'Finalize Project' do?

Instead of Share to Media Browser, what happens if you try Share Menu > Export Movie... (choose Large size) and save it to the Desktop?
If that fails try Share Menu > Export using QuickTime...
Then pick Movie to QuickTime Movie, then click on Options... which is just to the right of Export
Under the Video section click on Settings...
Then in the pulldown menu at the top, titled Compression Type: Choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Then click OK. And click OK again, and save it to the desktop. Once the .mov file is created, you can import that into iDVD and most likely it will work in Wondershare Creator if you prefer to use that instead.

  • Movie too large via imovie and no sound via idvd.

Help! I have a movie on a minidv tape that is one hour and 21 minutes long.
This is a very important tape and I dont want to delete any of it.
    I don't understand why I can't create a dvd (which can hold a 2 hour movie).
If I use idvd it captures the video but there is no sound.
If I download it via imovie, then try to create a dvd, it tells me that the movie
is too large. How can it be too large if the movie is less than 2 hours and should be able to fit on the dvd.
Can anyone help this beginner. (I just bought this g5 yesterday).

    Hi
iDVD 6 should be able to make a DVD disk with 60 min or 120 min movie +
    menu.
Can it be so that Your menu are to complex (or when added together results
    in more than 120 min)
Sounds can be tricky and iDVD can count in sounds that You thought be out-
side Your movie (stretching out after the video ended). If So re do the sound
part of Your movie and be carefull that no audio cont after the movie is ended.
In iDVD: (strang but it is like this)
Best Quality is for movies + menus more than 60 min and less than 120
Best Performances for movies + menu less than 60 min.

  • .mov files - video too fast, audio ok

    HI!
I have a problem with .mov files. They play and the sound is ok, but video plays too fast and i ahead of audio. I'm sure the video is too fast, because i can see when someone is talking that it's way too fast. I've tried reinstalling quictime, installing older versions, reinstalling direct x and graphics drivers. I even tried quictime alternative. Nothing helps. This happens to files that i have on my disc. And it only happens on my computer, on my brothers it plays just fine, so the files are ok.
    Can anyone help?

  • Slides move too fast - lose my audio recording

I have narrated along, slide-by-slide, with my presentation. However, when I play it the slides move along too quickly, and by the end of it the slides have gone past where my narration is.
How can I artificially add a second or two gap between the slides? I recorded each narration at a time, instead of all in one shot, if that helps.
Thank you very much for any help,
    Robin

I've posted a more detailed answer to your other related question, but here's a simple solution to what I think you are asking here.
If each narration is a separate recording, associated with each of the images, then simply add it to the slide as an individual audio track and assign it to Build-in at the same time as the image. Then, all you have to do is wait for the narration to finish before changing to the next image. This can be done manually by Clicks, or automatically in the Builds "More Options" window.
If you want your finished presentation to play "automatically" you then can record a SILENT SOUNDTRACK (i.e. with the audio input device turned-off) while advancing the Builds and Transitions manually. Once completed, the slideshow should run "in sync" as a stand-alone presentation just as you recorded it.
Be aware, however, that if you try to run the slideshow as a Hyperlink from another presentation, or export it to another format, all bets are off! With the current version of Keynote, Recorded slideshows simply do not work except as stand-alone presentations in their native format.
    Good luck.

  • H264/ACC Stream plays back too fast on some computers

    Hi all,
we got some feedback from some of our customers (about 1%) that the QuickTime streams we provide (H.264/ACC) play back too fast, about double the original rate and sound is dropping out.
I have not seen this problem myself and there is no particular movie, which does not work. It seems to be the client setup (QT settings, video card whatever).
    Does anybody know what happens?
    Thanks
    NikWest

    Hi T-MACK,
This may not be much help but I had the same problem. Inspection showed that I'd inadvertantly set the camera on long play when shooting the footage. It seemed fine when importing into imovie but playback appeared to be double speed. I posted a question on this forum but couldn't get a satisfactory solution. Re-setting the camera and reimporting didn't help. However, I borrowed a friends camcorder and reimported the same video from that. It worked. I can't see why but it did.
Perhaps sommeone will come up with a better answer.

  • 8mm movie conversion

I have about 1200 feet of old 8mm movie film that I would like to have converted so that I can import it into Apple’s iMovie where I can edit it and make a movie of it and put it on a DVD with menus.
What format do I want to have it converted to ?
Which version of iMovie is the best for this ?

I think your question is sort of outside the realm of iMovie and more of how to get old film based movies recorded onto digital tape or another digital format easily imported to the computer.
Most people who report on what they did ended up displaying the movie onto a good background with the projector and simply video taping it off the screen, wall, sheet, etc.
These are old silent 8mm films?
