Digitizing minidv cam footage in Premiere CS6

Has anyone else had any issues digitizing minidv cam footage in CS6 & if so, how did you trouble shoot the issue?

As long as your (unknown brand/model) camera is not actually analog, the video is already digital, so all you are doing with your Firewire connection is transferring from tape to computer

I have NOT used it, but many say to try this for HDV capture http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm
I have NOT used either, but many say to try these for SD capture http://windv.mourek.cz/ or http://www.exsate.com/products/dvcapture/

  • I am having horrendous problems importing XD-CAM files into Premiere CS6

Please tell me if there is a fix for importing XD-CAM .MXF files into Premiere CS6 6.0.0. Have tried the import and the media browser functions. The paths look like this:
    PROAV
         CLPR
         CMPTR
         EDTR
         USERDATA
Let me know how to do this.....

Also, update your Premiere to 6.0.3 on PC, or 6.0.2 on Mac.
And transfer the entire folder structure from media to hard drive without modifications. That includes any Sony transfer utility, just use Windows to copy stuff straight over.
Then use Media Browser as directed previously

  • Sony F5 footage crashing Premiere CS6

Need some urgent help. Shooting on the Sony F5 tomorrow. Shot some test footage. The footage is XAVC 1080p 4.2.2 100Mbps
I import the footage (drag and drop) and it appears and shows in Pr. But when I try and do anything with it, it crashes. I have a fully up to date version of Pr.
Switched to Mpeg2 50Mbps and it works fine. But what if I want to shoot XAVC???
    Thanks for any help!

Got a friend to look into it:
Basically it's such a new format that the import plugins arn't out yet.
For FCPX Sony has an XAVC plugin that enables native editing but its only a beta which I can't find, was meant to be released in jan but still not out.
For premier there's a plugin called Rovi totalcode that works with XAVC.  Bad news is its $349!! (PC only)

  • Cannot open AVI files from my Digital compact camera in Premiere Elements!

Desperately need help! I am new to video editing and I am having a tough time editing my videos (which are in AVI format coming from my Nikon P5100 digital compact camera) in Adobe Premiere Elements 9.
The Organiser recognizes the AVI files and plays them OK.
However when I drag them to the editing window in Premiere Elements, I get a pop up window entitled "Generic Failure" and the message is "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed."
How do I go from there? Do I need to convert the AVI files? If yes, into which format and through which software?
    Thanks for help!
    regards,
    Ali

    Welcome to the forum.
What CODEC is used in the Nikon AVI files?
Many models use MJPEG, though it seems that some of the higher-end Nikons are making a change.
If your AVI's have the MJPEG CODEC, see this ARTICLE. The Morgan MJPEG CODE, linked to in that article, has really helped a lot of Nikon shooters.
Good luck, and let us know which CODEC your Nikon is using. This ARTICLE will give you more detail on AVI (and MOV, WMV, etc.).

  • FCE: Possible to Capture SD footage from digital video cam?

Ok, probably a daft question this. Don't laugh...
I'm thinking of purchasing a digital video camera that uses SD cards. I currently use a MiniDV cam and connect via Firewire.
Is it possible to capture footage shot on SD cards into FCE?
And, if so, should I use USB from the camera, or insert the SD card into my card-reader?
The camera I'm looking at is able to record HD footage to a 2gb SD card (about 40 mins worth)
    Thanks for your time!

Cheers Tom, I think you just saved me a small fortune..

  • Video footage I've imported from iMovie to Premiere cs6 is missing after the import!  please help!

I initially imported raw video footage from an event that I shot into iMovie 11, but later decided to try an edit the footage in Adobe Premiere CS6.  I successfully imported the iMovie file folder into CS6, then saved and exited the program to work on it after lunch.  When I returned and reopened the file, the footage could not be found.  I attempted to reopen it in iMovie and it came up as a missing file also.  I know it successfully opened in Premiere because I've seen the footage.  I didn't trash anything so it's not in the trash.  Where did my footage go, and how can I retrieve it?

    Hi Ann, Hi JSW,
I looked around a bit and noticed that this same problem sometimes happens in iMovie itself. People lose their media because it gets copied inside the project file itself. If you right click to see the package contents, you might be able to locate the media and copy it to a dedicated folder, then reconnect media to it in Premiere Pro. See this post on the apple website: Source clip missing | Apple Support Communities
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Premiere CS6 with Blackmagic 4K footage

    Hi,
I am trying to open footage shot with Blackmagic 4K camera in premiere but all I get is a 1347 x something ... footage. I know Premiere CC will open it... But.. what about premiere CS6.. is tehre any trick or plugin to get it to open what is (or is supposed to be) standard 422 Pro res Quicktime File (sure.. at 3840x2160) ?

    Again me...
I found a way.. I converted the footage with MPEG STREAMCLIP (freeware) re-exporting at the same resolution, Quicktime Prores 4444.. In this way it works fine.. I guess Prores out from BM4K is not exactly as ProRes out of Quicktime ! Hope it helps

  • GoPro Camera Raw Lens Profile settings not working for image sequence in Photoshop/AE/Premiere CS6

    Hey Everyone,
I'm in need of assistance in either Photoshop CS6, After Effects CS6, or Premiere Pro CS6.  I just installed the trials after seeing Russell Brown demo the GoPro Lens Profile correction feature in Camera Raw.  Basically what I'm looking to do is make adjustments (in Adobe Camera Raw) to a series of still images (shot with the time-lapse mode on the GoPro) and then either export those stills through Photoshop or Bridge to a temporary movie file that will be imported into a timeline (with other video clips), or import the JPG files (with Camera Raw settings) directly into After Effects or Premiere as an image sequence.  The latter would be preferable as it'd avoid the extra step of having to render the intermediate/temporary movie file.
Right now, my current workflow for GoPro time-lapses is:
              - use Bridge CS4 to do basic color correction on the still images
              - save those as TIF files
              - run the TIF files through a custom script to have Hugin 2012.0.0 (open source pano stitcher) remove the fisheye distortion
              - open the new TIF image sequence into QuickTime Player 7 (Pro)
              - export the image sequence as a QuickTime movie file
              - import the movie file into Premiere Elements 10 to place on a timeline with other video clips (as Premiere Elements can't handle the sequence(s) of thousands of still images without crashing)
If I can go directly from Bridge to a timeline, it'd save a lot of processing time (and it'd be much nicer to preview the images in Bridge without the fisheye distortion)!
I can prepare the GoPro JPG files through Adobe Camera Raw in Bridge CS6, though when I go to import the JPEG image sequence into Premiere Pro CS6 or After Effects CS6, none of the Camera Raw settings are applied.  If I export the Camera Raw files in Bridge CS6 as DNG files (a step I'd really prefer to avoid) and then import the DNG image sequence into After Effects CS6, the Camera Raw settings are applied except for the Lens Profile settings -- I can pick other cameras but not the GoPro lens profiles when the DNG image sequence loads in After Effects.  It also appears that once I open the DNG files in After Effects CS6, I can no longer access the GoPro Lens Profile in Adobe Bridge CS6 -- the list changes to the same list I get in After Effects.  Premiere Pro CS6 doesn't let me import the DNG files at all.  I've also tried to import the JPG files (as well as the converted DNG files) into an image sequence in Photoshop CS6, though it doesn't allow me to do so (the Image Sequence checkbox is grayed out after I apply the Camera Raw settings in Bridge).
There could be an issue going on with different Camera Raw versions.  I didn't have Premiere Pro CS6 installed during my initial testing, though now do notice that the Camera Raw dialog in Bridge CS6 only lets me choose compatibility up to "Camera Raw 7.1 and later" when I choose to export the files as DNG.  I thought Camera Raw 8.2 was an option there a couple days ago when I only had installed Photoshop CS6 and After Effects CS6 (though am not 100% certain).
Please let me know if there is some workaround to get the GoPro lens profile Camera Raw corrections applied in an image sequence in one of the Adobe CS6 products (without having to export the files as temporary TIF or JPG files out of Camera Raw).  I'd greatly prefer to shorten my current workflow for these files.  (I just updated the CS6 trials and have tested all three programs again though I still get the same results described above.)
Does Lightroom 5 have any option to export Camera Raw image sequences as movie files (or any other feature that might help in simplifying my current workflow)?  I can't install the trial right now as it's not compatible with OS X 10.6.8.  I'd consider upgrading OS X if I knew Lightroom 5 would do what I need, though am waiting for any potential color profile issues to be resolved in OS X 10.9.
I can open the image sequence in Photoshop CS6 if no Camera Raw settings are applied and then use the Lens Correction Filter to apply the GoPro Lens Profile settings, though I really prefer the Camera Raw interface in Bridge for tweaking image settings.  As soon as I apply Camera Raw settings to the first image, Photoshop CS6 grays out the image sequence checkbox.
If there isn't a way to take Camera Raw files straight from Adobe Bridge to a timeline, I may stick with my current workflow using CS4 and see what I can do to better automate some of the steps as the TIF export in Bridge, fisheye distortion removal in Hugin, and render in QuickTime Player all take quite a while.  I won't mind waiting for all the processing if I can set it and check back on it in later the next day when it's fully complete.  Is there a way to have Adobe ExtendScript execute an external shell command (i.e.: a command I could type into the bash shell in Terminal in OS X)?  If not, is there a way to call/run an ExtendScript script from the command line and pass a parameter to it that my custom script could use?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

Can you zip up a few of your GoPro images, upload them to dropbox.com and post a share link, here, so others can experiment with them, or do you mean this issue is global to all camera models?

  • Premiere CS6 - keyframed scaling is not working with RED footage when Time Remapping is used

    Hello,
My system is: Win7, Premiere CS6 (6.0.5), 12GB RAM, etc...
My project settings:  I'm using 1080p RED timeline.
    Steps:
Using 4K RED footage with "Scale to frame size" disabled after placing the clip on timeline.
Under effects time remapping is set to 50%.
Motion->Scale is keyframed from 50% to 100% to achieve zoom in effect while preserving image quality.
Clip stays at 50% Scale ignoring the keyframes.
Problem is present during preview and in the exported file. I tried with CUDA enabled and disabled and problem persists.
If I turn off Time Remapping, then the clip responds to scaling keyframes.
Is there any workouround or can this bug be fixed?
    Thanks!

    Thanks.
This seems to work but I had to apply TR to the nested sequence and scaling to the original clip.
Otherwise scaling operations are messed up.
This situation reminds me of after effects and effects processing order.

  • Poor multi-camera performance in Premiere Pro CS6

I've been trying to edit my camera footage using multi-camera window and the playback is extremely choppy and slow in the viewer, so I pretty much cannot use it. Any ideas? Are there certain settings I can tweak?
I did a search and it seems like the CPU/GPU would be the bottlenecks but I believe my machine is pretty good: i7 2700k with SATA III SSD, GTX 480 and 16GB of RAM.
Thank you in advance for your help.

What driver are you on for your GTX 480?
I'm aware of a number of things that have been reported as causing choppy playback
Playback Resolution and Paused Resolution being set to full. If that's the case, try  dialing back to 1/2 or even 1/4.
A high number of layers. How many are in your multicam sequence? Also, do you have any cases of a sequence containing a nested sequence that in turn contains a nested sequence?
The type of video--some are more resource intensive to decode than othters. What kind are you working with (codec and wrapper)?
    Using multiple graphics cards
Effects. Which ones are you using, if any?
A slow hard drive, or using an external without a fast enough interface. (from the info you provided, that doesn't sound like a likely culprit)
It might be worth downloading the trial of Premiere Pro CC to see if performance is better in the new version. I'm not trying to sell you on subscribing to Creative Cloud. It would just be good to know if you find better performance in CC.

  • Premiere CS6 Hangs when Importing Video from P2 Camera

I just bought Premiere CS6.  I am a Final Cut Pro refugee, running Mac OS Snow Leopard.
So far (day 1) I am having three serious problems, one major, one less so, and one intermediary.
First, when I try to import video off my P2 camera using the Media Browser, Premiere hangs.  When I force quit, a dialog box briefly pops up saying that a "serious error" has occured.  If I can't load my video into Premiere, this is a serious problem.
    Is this a known issue?
Second, when I view the contents of my P2 card in the media browser, the order of the clips is totally jumbled.
If I can get the media browser import function to work, is there a way to view the clips in the order in which they were shot?
Third, I tried to "ingest" my clips through Prelude, which just copied the whole arcane folder structure of the P2 card onto my local hard disk.  I could do this in the Mac OS Desktop and I really don't see the point of Prelude.  I would rather not navigate the arcane P2 folder structure, and I need something that will take my video out of Panasonic's .mxf wrapper file.
I've noticed that I can drag the .mxf files directly into Premiere, but is there a way to import my video that will also extract the files from the .mxf wrapper, so that I can also open the files in other software?
I downloaded the Premiere CS6 updater but it didn't help.
Together, these issues represent serious defects that cripple my ability to use this software.

Im have the exact same issue with the importing or P2 files and premere crashing/ hagingup, i on the other hand have been using adobe for over 4 years and never had this issue, i still have CS5 on comp and there are no problems there, kinda silly i cant use CS6 for work....
so what did you exactly do to fix issue??
also i know exactly what porblem u are running into with the aspect ratio problems, been an issue for as long as i have been working with adobe premere and HVX, and i can help u there, simply dont use DVCproHD sequence if you are going to DVD just do a DV widscreen sequence and all the ratio problems will fix when u go to encore. or use DVCproHD sequence but drop the entire sequence you worked on into a DV widscreen sequence or an HDV sequence and resize acordingly (make lager or smaler so fits properly in 16/9) the problem is some of the P2 cameras are not a true 16/9 there like 15/9 or somthing, its odd, anyway thats what i do, it doesnt really ad much time and it workes
Dear adobe plp if you read this, then you know about problem importing, whatever he did dosnt seem like you should have to do that... any questions feel free to contact me.

    Adobe Premiere CS6
Windows 7, dernières mises à jour dernier service pack
    Core2Duo E8400
    4Go DDR2
    Radeon HD6950
Disque principal : WD Velociraptor 10000tpm
Disque secondaire : Segate Barracuda 7200tpm
Avez-vous un avis ou des conseils à me donner pour arriver à faire fonctionner ce mode correctement ?
Dans tous les cas, même l'aperçu vidéo dans l'espace de travail par défaut souffre de nombreux ralentissements...!
    Merci d'avance

  • DVCPRO HD footage comes in all white - Premiere CS6

I'm on a PC running Windows 7 64 bit using Premiere CS6 as part of Creative Cloud
When I import a quicktime with DVCPRO HD 720p60 codec, the video shows up as all white, but the sound plays (this is also the case when I import the footage to After Effets CS6).
The footage itself is okay since I've openned it on a computer with Premiere CS5.5 and After Effects CS5.5 and and it shows up just fine.
I installed all the CS6 Creative Cloud updates, but the problem persisted.
I followed the directions here http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/features-presets-missing-premiere-pro.html but it didn't help (although after uninstalling Premiere and After Effects, when I ran the cscleanertool.exe it didn't see Premiere or After Effects, so I couldn't use it to clean anything).
Also in Premiere, I can create sequences with DVCPRO presets, so it's not that I'm missing those.
Anyone have an idea how to fix this?

I am having the same problem! The footage works fine in CS 5.5, but in CS 6, it's all white in Premiere, After Effects, Media Encoder, and Encore (using Dynamic Link to bring the sequence in from Premiere).
In response to Jim, I don't think asking for AVI versions is the solution - going back and asking for footage in a different format (especially if you were given a relatively standard format) would feel stunningly unprofessional to me. Clearly, this is a problem that is new to CS 6, and not being able to handle a widely used format is in my mind unacceptable...and unaccountable, since I can't figure out what would be behind it.
