Dilink roughter cuts off internet access

Hi I have a new d-link DI-604 and it cuts off my internet access randomly every 3 to 12 hours.
I have talked to the D-Links service department and they say it's a recurring issue and that I need to reset my IP address to a static number or mode (?).
They infer that since the Macintosh is an unstable system that it is not their problem and I should go to Mac to fix it (nice attitude) so here I am.
Any suggestions.

The Dlink DI-604 is listed on the D-Link site as a Mac Compatible product. If they have said it is a know recurring problem, then I would ask for a replacement/refund and move on to another router.
However, if you want to try and use the router, we will need more info on your connection. Is it a cable or DSL modem you are connected to. Are you given a Static, or Dynamic IP from your Internet provider. Are you using the default settings in the router, or have you made any changes.

  • WRT54GS UPnP Cuts off Internet Access

Hello, everyone! Having had an Apple TV for about a year and just recently getting a Roku, I've noticed a strange issue. Whenever I use UPnP to locally stream video, all access to the internet is cut off and stays off until I unplug the router and plug it back in. The local network still works fine, so streaming continues (and works very well), but there's no access to the outside. Is there something I can do to fix this; is this a case of a broken router or bad internet service?

Another common Media Streaming Server is DLNA. On a Windows Computer this is enabled through Windows Media Player and your devices capable of DLNA will be able to see your Windows user folders like Pictures, Videos and Music.

  • Internet connection cuts off after accessing GraceNote CDDB

This is for everyone how has the same problem!
After several times being in situation my internet connection (broadband cable) has been cut off after accessing GraceNote CDDB, and after several times I had to either restart or shut down my Power Book in order to access GraceNote CDDB again for each CD I wanted to put in my iTunes Music Folder, and after I checked all feedbacks and discussions regarding this matter - I did find The Solution - finaly!
You just have to uncheck Automatic access to GraceNote CDDB in iTunes Preferences (Importing) and to do it from drop-down menu manualy - and everything will work in perfect order!

I just turned the IPV6 off, I previously tried restarting safari and the computer itself (im not sure which you were referring to) but hopefully turning the IPV6 to off resolved the problem.  Thanks so muchfor your help, I think you got it =).  If you dont mind me asking what exactly did that do that fixed it though?

  • New Intel WIFI Link Driver Randomly cut off Internet Connection

Two day ago I used ThinkVantage SYstem Update and installed Intel Wifi link driver (ver 13.01.1000). But since then my computer was randomly cut off internet connection, and the wireless signal strength icon on the system tray indicated no nearby wireless network. And then it powered off the wireless connection. Whatever I do, I cannot re-power on the wireless (I used Access Connection to power on the 802.11 wireless radio, but it could not be turned on and nothing happened) unless I restart the computer.
I thought it might be the router that malfunctioned as this problem never happened before. But after I checked the router and used another notebook to test wireless connection, I was sure the router ran very well.
Then I re-installed the TVT Access Connection (ver 5.61) and the Intel WIFI Link Driver (ver 13.01.1000) but the problem remained. Could anybody give a possible solution?
I also noticed on Lenovo's website, the Intel wireless card driver for T61 is v13.00.0000 Windows Vista 23 Oct 2009. It's lower than what I have now. Could that be the cause?
My ThinkPad T61 has the following configuration:
    Model: T61 8897CTO
OS: WinVista Home Basic SP2 32bit
    Language: EN
    Wireless Card: Intel 3945 ABG
Wireless Card Driver: 13.1.1.1 (previous one was 13.0.0.0)
    TVT Access Connection: 5.61
    Solved!

    Hi carlven,
Anytime when wireless driver is updated, Access Connections also needs to be reistalled.
Do this, first uninstall your wireless driver and access connections, thereafter reboot your system. Then install wireless driver first, again reboot, subsequently install access connections, reboot again.
When installing any lenovo driver manually, keep in mind they first extract themselves to a default location in C:\Drivers..., second .exe setup must be run from that location to successfully install the drivers.
    Hope it helps.

That floating footer section isn't unimportant. It's part of a whole new <html> and <body> section (complete with <head> and <meta> tags) that somehow got dropped in right before your closing body tag:

The wrapping html and body tags in that section of code must be removed as well as the head and meta tags included there. They will cause problems no matter what is going on with the rest of the page. A web page only has one html element and one body element.
This doesn't seem to be the cause of the phantom Portfolio section, though. This section doesn't appear for me, either. (Reducing font size using Safari a few sizes makes it appear. Perhaps that's related to japamac's ability to see that section...?)
I'm looking over the rest of the HTML and CSS and haven't found the problem yet. I'll poke at it a little more this morning.
There are some validation errors: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.derekmiller.us%2Findex.shtml
You might want to go through those as well to clean things up. (Some are caused by that stray section of code.) At the very least, getting rid of validation errors can make it easier to get to the root of the problem when troubleshooting something like this.

  • Shutting off Internet Access after 10PM

My teen-age sons are at the age where they want the independence of making their own choices, and resent my telling them what to do and when to do things. I am trying to encourage them to plan their play time and work time so that they get their work done before it gets too late and "have to" stay up late to finish (because they spent their time doing non-school stuff on the Internet).
The message that the Internet will be disconnected at 10PM has been heard load and clear now that dad pulls the cable out of the DSL interface, stuffs the cable in his pocket and goes to bed. They are getting much better at front-loading Homework and leaving discretionary web surfing etc. until later. After 10PM (with the Internet disconnected, but the Server still running) they can still access their user accounts, type their papers, and print. But the Internet is not available, and game time and chat time is over.
I am fishing for a more automatic way to "turn off the Internet at 10PM", so that I don't have to stay up until exactly that time and physically pull the cable and carry it away.
I am running Server 10.3 at the moment, but have Server 10.4 DVD and am planning to install it sometime soon. Workstations are running 10.4, and are in a largely public area (not buried in out-of-the-way places with no potential for oversight).
I welcome all suggestions, including those not involving computers at all!

All this cabling and re-cabling caused me to re-configure my Routers and Switches, which threw my Internet connection offline. In attempting to get it working again, I went back to the actiontek Router that Verizon FIOS provided originally. The actiontek's power supply had failed, and I had dropped back to a previous Router. Verizon later sent a replacement Power Supply, even though the unit was out of warranty.
When I went to configure the actiontek Router, I noticed that there were a lot of options to restrict access for just certain users, and to restrict actions based on time. There were options for both content-filtering (which I am not currently using) and Firewall-based restrictions, many of which could be based on time-of-day and day-of-week.
Once I set the Router's date and time, and allowed it to be updated from a network time server on the Internet, I was able to set up a set of FireWall restrictions for every day of the week. At 10 PM, it disallows traffic through the Firewall, and keeps it off until noon the next day. Now everyone in the house knows the Internet shuts off at 10 PM, and no manual Intervention is required. If you have not completed your homework by then, your Internet time is over regardless.
Verizon FIOS customers and actiontek Router users reading this should check for these features in your Router -- you may already have the solution in hand.

  • How can i turn off internet access for itunes

Every time i turn on itunes it asks for my internet username and password. If I cancel the request it pops up again after a few seconds and will continue to pop up, even if I put my name and password in.
This becomes very frustrating when I don't want to use the internet or I don't have a connection. How can I turn this off?

  • Screen Share Cuts Off Internet

Well, I recently upgraded from a basic laptop to a beefy gaming computer, and skype is working great except for one thing. Every time I screen share, about 1-5min into it, I loose all internet connection on my computer and go offline. I don't know how or why this is happening, because my internet is fine otherwise and I can host calls and game online at the same time. It only looses connection when I screenshare, no other time. I've tried this with different people, but always the same result, so I know it is something on my end.
I'm running Skype 7.5 (just updated) on Windows 8.

  • My Macbook cuts off my mother's internet access

It looks like whenever I turn on my computer, and it connects to our internet wi-fi, it cuts off my moms internet. However, the same cannot be said if my mom turned on her computer to access the internet, it doesn't cut off my access.
I am wondering what this problem is?
We are using linksys for our wifi, no password protected, just MAC Address settings.

It sounds like a router problem. For some reason it is always giving your Macbook the same IP address, even if someone else has it. Make sure all computers are using DHCP to obtain IP addresses. Also make sure that the router doesn't have any hard-coded IP addresses assigned to computers.

  • Getting around my school's internet cut-off time

I currently attend a prep school out on the east coast, and they have rules like a prison. One thing that really irritates me is that at 11:30 PM every night they shut off the internet. I can still see full bars in my airport but I cannot access any thing online, not even through iTunes store or Mail. Is there any way I can get around this and access the internet after it has been shut off?

Probably not... It sounds like the school is cutting off access to external networks (i.e., the internet) at 11:30 (or, more likely, cutting off the access points in the dorms from external networks).
It's not a hardware issue or something you can address in your computer -- it's a change in the network itself. I suppose you could break into your school's network operating center and change the settings, but that would be difficult, illegal, and probably get you expelled.
Of course, you could get an EVDO-modem for your MBP (Verizon has one that uses the ExpressCard slot). Service is about $80/month, and the speeds are not quite broadband, but if you really need to get on the network it might be worth looking into.
Or you could just go to bed at 11:30...

  • Parental Controls - Internet Access Stopped!

My wife has a white MacBook running Leopard 10.5.8.  It has worked fine for two years.  Nothing was changed.  She could not change anythign due to being logged into a managed account.
It could always access the internet over our home (or any available) WiFi perfectly.  All of a sudden, yesterday afternoon, her managed account with "Parental Controls" enabled cannot access any internet.  Safari mentions that it cannot access the server.  When checking the network setting all seems fine, it can access the WiFi router.
The administrator account can access the internet over WiFi just fine.
I created another account called Test.  In standard mode it can access the internet over WiFi just fine, but when i turn on "Parental Controls" Safari, or any other internet related program cannot access the internet.  This includes the software update in the Finder.
What's going on?  i have found similar issues on the Apple Support Communities going back unanswered to 2007!

    Beach Dude,
I have the same problem, and have had on virtually every operating system since Parental Controls was introduced.
I have multiple kids with individual accounts. THe perplexing thing is that if I enable parental controls on my daughter's account,  it works fine. I can set time limits, etc... and it works! But if I so much as turn on parental controls in my youngest son's account, every web browser is unable to connect to the internet at all from his account.
BUGGY software. And apple knows it is buggy, but it isn't core system stuff so they ignore the problem.  I even tried setting up a new account for him and moving his old files over and resetting permissions. Still the same problem.
I've searched high and low for a solution and found none. I have found a limited number of users with the same complaint...and absolute silence from apple....
There is nothing on these boards that has worked, and I've tried several different solutions.  Most responses are the useless kind, "change the setting in parental controls" kind of sophomoric advice from people who just assume what the problem is instead of reading our description of it.
Anyway, I haven't found a good alternate software solution for limiting the time and hours for children's accounts; but I did find an excellent tool for managing internet content access. It is called opendns and it is free and it works!  Do a google search for "opennds" if your primary concern is managing access to web content.  If you come up with a good solution for fixing parental controls so that it doesn't just cut off web access, please let me know here - or if you find an alternate software solution that allows an administrator to set time limits for standard accounts, I would like to know that too.
    Regards

  • Is there a way to password protect internet access?

Is there a way to password protect internet access?
Is there a way to password protect the Airport function on my mac?
I have spent some time looking at the forums and on the internet trying to look for a app that can solve my problem. I wish to be able to turn off internet access. I have been using K9 web protection but have found some flaws and bugs. It is a great idea and works well except for the "block any access between(set time) and (set time)" function.
I want to be able to use my computer with out the worry of access to the internet. In my simplistic ideas I need an app that will simply toggle the AirPort function on and off and password protect it. That way when i dont want the distraction in my own life and when i let the rest of the family are playing games the internet is safely protected.
At this time the ethernet connection is not a problem.
I can simply un plug the router however the neighbours around me don't password protect their connections!
If any one knows of a way to solve this or any alternative solutions please let me know.
Many thanks for reading and I look forward to your expertise.

  • Help needed with internet access

I have just aquired a 5800 and I (think) I have turned of the 3G so it will only connect via my home WiFi unless it asks me.  However, when I do connect I get a tiny little symbol which looks like 3.5g and the book says it is something to do with "HSDPA".   It tells you that a line under it means "supported and active" and that a line through it means "a connection is on hold" but doesn't tell you what if there are no lines, just the symbol and what the flaming hell that means anyway.
My question is - when this is showing, am I doing something that I am being charged for ?   On this phone I do not want to do anything chargeable without first being asked, so if anyone understands this minefield of information I would be eternally grateful for your assistance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can't normally switch off internet access via the network through settings, usually you get the following network options:
GSM only (which could could connect to the internet via GPRS)
    UMTS only (this is 3G)
Dual mode (which selects 3G if the service is available in the area, otherwise defaults to GSM)
Your phone will always show the GSM or 3G signals if it is in range of such services, this does not mean that you are conencted to the internet by them. If you are connected via WLAN, you will not be charged for internet access over the internet.
One thing to be careful of is that if you leave the range of your WLAN router, the phone can automatically go for the next access available point in the "Destinations" setting, which could be your network. As long as you are in range of the router and it is working fine, you should have no worries.
