Dim Monitor Picture Compared With TV?

I first became aware of this a couple of years ago when I played a DVD (Broken Arrow) on my eMac.
The picture was disappointingly dull compared with the image on a TV.
I am certain there is nothing wrong with the eMac's CRT, and LCD monitors on other computers seem to be similar.
Videos in FCE or iMovie appear much darker than on a TV next to the Mac.
I decided to quantify the difference and used the exposure meter on one of my still cameras.
The 15" TV was producing a picture of 1.5 to 2 f-stops lighter. In other words it was 3 - 4 times brighter even though the eMac's monitor was set to maximum brightness.
Has anyone else noticed this? Why should there be such a difference as both screens are CRTs?
Under normal use the eMac's display is very bright - it's just that when you have a simultaneous TV picture to compare it with, there is a tremendous difference.
Ian.

Thanks for the explanation Tom.
I always thought we did it because of the colours and interlacing effects - I didn't realise the brightness could be so different.
It appears that people who watch DVDs or TV on a computer are foolish, as they could be viewing a much brighter and colourful picture without unecessarily wearing out their Macs.
A couple of years ago I accidentally filmed a Yoga display with the exposure locked (incorrectly low) on manual.
The resultant footage looked so underexposed as to be unwatchable on my Mac. I was going to erase it but luckily didn't, as when it was converted to DVD and played on a TV it was quite passable.

  • How do I set external monitor to work with my G4 iMac?

I just bought a 22" Proview LCD monitor to use with my iMac b/c it's monitor is pretty much gone. It did not work for six months, then came on for 1 day and went out again.
Long story short, since I've hooked up the new monitor when I print in iPhoto the pictures come out too dark and the color is not what it used to be.
How do I fix it so my monitor's calibrations match the original? Or, whatever I need to do to fix it.
I print a lot of pictures and I need this to work correctly.
    Thanks.

Snoot, welcome, your new monitor just needs to be calibrated. From the finder under the Apple scroll down to System Preferences, Click the Desktop & Screen Saver icon and set the desktop picture to a Medium Gray.. You can change this back when you are done. Now go back by clicking Show All and click the Displays icon, then choose Display in the upper tabs and set your preferred resolution. Set your monitor brightness at about medium (if there is one) and at Colors choose Millions. Now choose Color from the upper tab and select Calibrate. Choose Expert Mode at the introduction and follow the on screen instructions. After making all of the Hue,Value and Saturation adjustments your must save the setting back to the Display profile.
Also some applications have monitor selection in there preferences, so just make sure that you choose your present Display Profile for that particular application.

  • What monitor best works with the MAC Pro

I'm thinking of buying a MAC PRO. What Monitor best works with a MAC Pro?

Whatever Monitor you like, exclusively. There are adapters available for everything.
Analog VGA is not a good idea. It's a Digital world. But it can be done if you want.
A TV set is not a Monitor. TV sets are for moving pictures, and may do badly with stable pictures, fine lines, parallel lines, smooth-edged text, and adjacent patches of bright colors.
Wider than 1920 needs special attention to details.

  • SAP XI comparative with Cordys & TIBCO

    Hi gurus,
Can anybody help me to find how SAP XI is better than Cordys or TIBCO .i.e. comparision between (SAP PI,Cordys,TIBCO)
    regards,

    HI
    Sap XI:
XI is well suited for connecting SAP systems with each other and with non-SAP. SAP XI provides an integrated workflow engine that allows defining adapters to non-XML protocols and mappings to convert data content from source to target format.
XI comes handy particularly incase of SAP - Non SAP interfaces where you can import standard integration content. Also XI has got sophisticated open standard adapter framework which is very easy to implement and custom logic can be implemented using Adapter module programming.
    Advantages
u2022Monitoring is better than any other middleware product. It offers exhaustive monitoring features like message, performance, component monitoring etc, all of which can be used to track and rectify the errors. It follows a hub and spoke model.
u2022When you need to integrate with an SAP system XI has an advantage in supporting various SAP components and so on.
u2022Process functionalities inside XI to modify content in the communication channel on own defined rules for business purposes.
u2022Mappings and adapters are good as comparable with any other middleware product.
u2022Synchronous & Asynchronous communication is possible.
      Dis-Advantages
u2022Web methods are particularly good if u have B2B kind of communication with their Trading Partners product.
u2022XI is lacking full-fledged Message Queue compared to other established Middleware products.
u2022It lacks in ability to process huge messages but SAP is working on that.
u2022It does not have a messaging layer exposed by APIs like IBM MQ-Series.
u2022It is not comparable to Tibco in terms of speed.
u2022SAP relies on other vendors except for a few adapters.
    TIBCO:
TIBCO is described as having the most advanced BPM features overall, spanning both integration-centric and human-centric features due to the company's aggressive strategy to sustain competitive advantage by adding leading-edge features, whether via internal development or strategic acquisition.
For the integration of custom applications into the e-business infrastructure, TIBCO makes available a comprehensive Software Development Kit that enables enterprises to build their own adapters.
    Advantages
u2022Tibco has many adapters that are built by their own.
u2022Tibco simple and productive User Interface is much more matured than XI.
u2022Tibco does publish/subscribe very well. Available messaging types include request/reply, publish/subscribe and publish/reply interactions.
u2022Improves overall system performance by eliminating repetitive batch requests to packaged application systems.
    u2022Lowers cost-of-ownership through general n-way rather than point-to-point integration.
u2022Simplifies administration with data transparency provided by subject-based naming.
u2022Enhances networked applications based on component or object development models.
u2022Choice of message delivery service levels for optimal resource utilization.
    Dis-Advantages
u2022Tibco does not have asynchronous SOAP/HTTP.
u2022Concept of integration in terms of semantics and steps is a little more complex.
u2022When compared in terms of monitoring, message level trace, message resubmission, pipelining, components monitoring Tibco is far behind to XI.
    cheers

  • How does the print gamut compare with mobile devices?

I need to design a document for 4 color process printing, using only colors that will reproduce correctly on other platforms, such as computer monitors, smart phones, and tablets.
I know how the print gamut compares with the RGB gamut of monitors.
But are the gamuts of phones and tablets the same as monitors?

There's very little hard evidence, based on a Google search. This Anandtech page, which compares the gamut, contrast, etc. of the iPad with Android tablets is the only one I could find.

  • Benefits of SAP Business Warehouse Reporting compared with the Query-tools?

    Hello experts,
I've been creating reports with SAP Query tools, but been faced with few problems. First of all, there are restricted possibilities in terms of joining tables, and thus I cannot include all the data required for the report.
One solution for this would have been to create separate queries and join the data together in Excel. The problem with this is that there exists no common field that would make sense as for a selection criterion. If the selection criterion is different in different queries, there is the danger of combining false data together, which would eventually result with distorted data.
So I was wondering, could anyone briefly tell me if SAP Business Warehouse reporting would solve these problems? And what other benefits would it provide compared with the SAP Query? I'd urgently need to know if it would be a beneficial investment for the company, since I haven't found solutions for the problems occurred in the creation of reports.
Thank you in advance for you help!
    Maria

The answers are yes - and thousands of companies have gone down this route
Puttingin BW is a strategic aim of the comapny and not to be thought about and discussed in a BI forum such as this
The costs of implementation and hardware will no doubt make your eyes water.
To be quite honest SAP BI is a "no brainer" as most of the new e-SOA and new R3 modules reply on BW for their reporting needs

  • I have 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute?

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all?  I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one.  I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
    How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI.  Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870.  That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • What Monitors WILL work with the Mac-Mini?

If the new Mac-Mini does not put out analog video and Apple does not state this, what monitors will work with it?

I was able to get an Apple Studio Display to work via the adapter in the Mac Mini box combined with that huge DVI to ADC adapter they had sold me years ago. In the Apple Store I really had to press them to assure me my display would work as they told me they'd charge me a re-stock fee if I had to bring the Mini back. I pressed the point that Apple should know if a monitor it made works with a computer it made. The rep asked around and we both searched the web and then she was able to confirm it would work. They really need a list of acceptable monitors. If anyone locates such a list, please let us all know!

  • I do not have many messages but my iphone 5s says messages take up 4.6GB of space.  When comparing with friends who have many more message, less than 1 GB is being used on their phones.  Why are mine taking up so much space and how do I correct that?

I do not have that many messages on my new iPhone 5s (maybe about 15 conversations and only one or two going back a little ways) yet when I go to Settings, Usage it shows that my messages are taking up 4.6GB of space.  When comparing with others (some who have hundeds of messages) they are using under 1GB for their messages.  Why are mine taking up so much space??

I found a post with this solution that worked for me - .Do a backup, then download ibackupbot. It lets you look into the contents of that backup. Look in system files>mediadomain>library>sms>attachments. I found a ton of huge files related to long deleted texts. ibackupbot let me delete all that old crap. I then restored the phone with that now modifec backup and Bingo! freed up 9 GB. No problems.
But note, if you are not technically inclined you probaly don't want to be digging around and deleting back up files. You delete the wrong thing and you could jack up your phone badly. Be careful.

  • I just purchased a 28" 4K monitor to use with Premiere Pro CS6 in WIndows 8.1 and the fonts are super tiny.

No matter what settings I choose, the fonts on the display are impossibly tiny.  The menu fonts at top are readable, but everything else feels like I am taking an eye exam.
Is this fixable, or do I need to return the 4K monitor and fuhgedaboutit?
Since I am doing some shooting in 4K, I thought this monitor would make sense.
If in fact it can't work with PP CS6 on WIn 8.1, what is the best recommended monitor to use with PP CS6?

I understand your issue and I don't have a solution for you. Sorry. In Premiere Pro CC 2014, you can increase the size of the fonts in the Project panel, but not in CS6.

You may want to ask this in ourHardware Forum.
Lots of gear heads that can help you there.
