Dim Screen While Ipod Connected

Hey, are you guys getting this wierd thing happen with the new 1.2 firmware? whenever my ipod is attached to my computer, the screen goes bright (normal) then goes to like half dim (never seen b4) instead of completly black which it usually does. is it supposed to do that? cause i dont want the screen half dim all the time cause I dont want to burn out the LCD any faster then i have to.. is there a way to make it go back to just going black after i plug it in again? thanks

Do you think my fears about shortening the screen's
life are founded; I'd like very much to be wrong
about that.
My understanding is that the backlight on these iPods are LED. LED's are known to burn non-stop for years. That is what they use in those fancy digital signs you see now days. I also have LED side marker lights on my company van and I travel a lot at night and in the evenings. My van is a 1997 model and I have YET to replace any of those LED lights. So, I just don't think you have anything to worry about by it being on as you are syncing your iPod. In fact you continue to charge it without it being connected to iTunes by simply ejecting it. When you do this the backlight goes off and it still charging.
You know I've never seen a post, though I honestly haven't search where anyone has had their backlight just burn out. I've seen post where people have smashed the LCD.
I am just going to enjoy mine and not worry about it. If Apple had concerns about this issue, I am sure they wouldn't have made this change. For the most part during the day as I am traveling my backlight is off, so the amount of time it is on even with it being on during syncing is pretty minimal if you think about it.

  • [SOLVED] 'Dim screen while inactive' not working

I have a sony vaio with GNOME 3. I suppose when it's not on AC power the screen should dim (it's ON on the Power Manager), but I wait and the screen's brightness doesn't drop a bit... I have another laptop, acer with Fedora 20 MATE, after a short while inactive the brightness drops. Which one is the culprit here?
edit: possibly a hardware hickup. When I start the system with the AC adapter off, everything works fine.

    In case anyone's interested:
i am now running gnome-shell on the big monitor, and openbox on the secondary monitor by calling the appropriate sessions from .xinitrc with the right display:
    #!/bin/sh
    DISPLAY=:0.0 exec openbox-session &
    DISPLAY=:0.1 exec ck-launch-session gnome-session
It is important to call openbox first, otherwise gnome-shell tries to seize control over both screens (and fails to do so).
two little drops of bitterness remain:
    1. I had to connect both monitors to the same device, because the one connected to the onboard chip was flickering really bad. this is probably unrelated, though.
    2. I can't use gnome-shell as a login-manager (maybe in fallback-mode i could, but i don't want that), so now i am logging in from tty and then startx

  • IPhone 4 not dimming screen while on a call

I've recently restored my mom's iPhone as a new one. I then put on a Lifeproof case because my step-dad was going to use it. I've tested the Phone app to see if it works. The problem is that while you're on the call, the screen will not dim. I don't know if the Lifeproof case is causing the problem, or something else. Before I restored it, it was working fine. Please help and thanks!

Remove the case, if the proximity sensor starts working again then then issue is the case.

  • Lock icon at bottom of iTunes screen when iPod connected and selected -grey

I'm a longtime Mac and iPod man trying to get ipod working for friend who has Dell laptop and XP.
Have downloaded and installed latest Windows software for both iPod and laptop.
    Problem
iPod is recognised, but I can do very little with it in iTunes. Items get greyed out, iPod screen often returns to internal menus (that is appears as if iPod is disconnected) and strangest of all (for me ) is that a lock icon appears at bottom of iTunes screen in line where iPod capacity is shown. Have reset iPod, restarted computer, iTunes etc. no change.
Here's the thing - same problem when connected to my iMac G5!
    Any suggestions welcome.

Got my answer from nice chap with a Windows machine!
It was because iPod was in autosync mode which I have never used myself since I have way too much stuff in iTunes.

  • Grey screen when ipod connected on startup and shutdown

when i start or shutdown my ti-book 500 with my new nanopod connected, i always get a grey screen and a command prompt with a bit of help text telling me what to type to proceed. if i type mac-boot, the screen will go blue and things go as normal. if i type shut-down it will do so.
why is this so? it is not really a problem, but a curiosity and a hassle. i always have to remember to disconnect my nanopod when i want to shut my mac down. if i don;t, it restarts (with chimes) and goes to the grey screen.
can anyone explain this? can it be remedied?

Hi, drgreg. I can't explain it, though I suspect that at least at startup, it may have to do with necessary drivers not having been loaded before the OS discovers that a device is connected. Whether something different comes into play at shutdown time, I don't know.
But I heartily recommend that, having discovered what you need to do to make things work normally, you bow gracefully to necessity and get into the habit of doing it. That habit may spare you a great deal of grief in the form of corrupted iPod and/or hard drive directories, which can lead to data loss and cripple your computer at inopportune times.

I cannot play my up next while my iPod is connecting. It keeps shows 'iPod sync is complete. Eject before disconnecting'. After I switch it into MiniPlayer, I'm able to play up next. Please somebody tells me what wrong is it

If it isn't already I think setting it to manual update will make all the files darken and you will be able to play.

  • I have an ipod touch that hasn't been used for a while.  Now we want to use it, but the screen says "ipod is disabled connect to itunes"--but it won't connect.  I have tried to place in recovery mode with directions given but still get the same message.

I have an ipod touch that hasn't been used in a while.  We want to use it now, but the screen says "ipod disabled.  connect to itunes".  When I connect to itunes it tells me to enter my passcode, however the ipod will not allow me to do anything (and I don't know the code anyway).  I tried to put it in recovery mode as someone suggested by holding the home button while plugging the ipod up from the computer, but I never did get the "connect to itunes" symbol, I continually got the same screen saying "ipod disabled connect to itunes".  Help!

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Racked Screen, now iPod won't connect to anything via USB

I cracked the screen on my 5th Gen iPod Classic. The LCD is clearly cracked. I can attempt to restart the iPod and all that will happen is that the dpsplay will light up white and just hang.
I have tried connecting it to my PC and it will not detect anything is there, or in my cars USB facility.
Will replacing the screen allow the iPod to be used again, or does it suggest that more has been damaged? I don't want to buy a replacment LCD if its unlikley to sort out the problem.
    Thanks

A new update on this situation, while just playing around with the iPod, I attempted "slaving" in some componentes of my other iPod, without dissmanteling it too far. So I now know that the Hard Drive is fine in it, as it booted up fine when fitted to the other iPod. I have attempted connecting it to the computer again. After along time of it hanging, I tunes has started up and given me the folowing error message relating to the iPod.
"+iTunes had detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod+"
Also the screen for a connected iPod was present, showing serial number, software version, name and capacity. The name field displayed "iPod" however the device has a different name, and capacity was n/a.
I have reconnected the iPod as iTunes has recomemded, however as I write this post its looking like I may see the same outcome again! How does one "restore" the iPod? I am starting to think that more could be up with it, than the screen. Just as PT had suggested.
Does anyone have any further thoughts on this?

  • Error while generating form 16 in portal - Screen output without connection

    Dear Gurus,
We are facing error while generating form 16 through portal and getting the below error in portal.
Screen output without connection to user.    error key: RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE
When we checked for dumps in R/3 the following dump is coming:
    DYNPRO_SEND_IN_BACKGROUND with error message :
    Message class : FPRUNX
Message number: 102: No job started.
Then we tried to execute the form 16 through R/3 itself using tcode PC00_M40_F16 after putting in the relevant values in the selection screen and then press on PRINT FORM button, but surprisingly the system logs out without giving any error or dump.
We tried doing it repeatedly and once in these attempts we got an error saying Initialization of font server module failed.
We are not getting clue as to why this is happening. <<Text removed>>

    Dear,
This might be the problem of Adobe Acrobat Reader. what is the version of Adobe you are using ?? If it 9.0, then uninstall it and reinstall 8.0 and then check .
Could you please check your installed SAPGUI component? If component 'Engineering Client Viewer' is installed, please uninstall
it. And try to call same transaction again.

  • How do I select which bluetooth speakers to play out of? My iPod connects to both kitchen and living room speakers. My old iPod had a selection icon on the now playing screen, but my new one doesn't.

    Hi,
    Our setup
A new iPod Touch 5 with iOS 8.3.
Living room speakers that use a Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter.
Kitchen speakers that use an AmazonBasics Bluetooth 4.0 Audio Receiver.
The iPod connects to both but always wants to play to the kitchen. To play in the living room, we have to unplug the power to the kitchen speakers. Bluetooth settings screen doesn't let you select between Bluetooth connections. All I seem to be able to do is forget the connection.
We also have an old iPod Touch (not sure of the generation, but it has iOS 6.1.6). On that one, there is a little icon on the now playing screen that would open a little pull-down menu to let you select which Bluetooth connection to use for playing audio.
I don't see the "select output" icon on the new now playing screen
    Jimmy
PS the iPod seems very aggressive in connecting. I hear the living room speakers activate when my wife gets out of the car in the driveway. Then as she comes into the living room, the sound switches to the kitchen.

Thanks, this was the clue I needed to figure it out.
From Settings you can pull up Control Center.
In Control Center you can enable "Access from within Apps" (also "Access from Lockscreen")
Now when I'm playing music, I can swipe up from the bottom and a little control center window slides up. Neat - this is new since my old iPod. On this window, the name of the current Bluetooth connection appears. Tap on that, and a list of connected Bluetooth items appears. I just tap on the one I want to connect to and I am now playing through the speakers I want.
