Dim spots/patches on screen

I noticed on my powebook display a couple of months ago some what appear to be like dim patches on my screen. I have 3 spots of them in the upper right hand corner of the screen, I thought it was dirt but I cleaned the screen and no change! the pixels arnt dead but the patches just dont seem as bright as the rest of the display around them.
anyone had simular issues or anyone got any ideas what this is?
Thanks
Adam

What kind of "spots" are you guys talking about? Have your screens got bumped or dinged by something? I have little spots on the right-hand side of my screen that no longer work, but I think something is squeezing or bumping my screen while I carry it in my pack.

  • Dim Spot on iPhone's screen

    Hello everyone,
    I have an iPhone 3G 8GB which I bought 6 months ago from Cyprus. After 3 months of using it, a dark dim spot appeared in the middle of my screen. No, it's not a dead pixel, I did a deep research for it. Anyway, I sent it back to them in Cyprus so they can fix it, they kept it 2 weeks and then they gave it to me back without even opening it and see the problem. After many hours there I pushed them to send it to Apple. They sent it to Greece as they told me where there is an Apple Store. After they sent it back again, they gave me a paper which they wrote on it "The dim spot as our customer said, doesn't make any problem to the phone of using it etc." By the way, you can see the dim spot very clear on gray color and dark colors but not on black. At the end.. I'm here now without any support from Apple.
    Please help me solve my problem.
    Regards,
    Jim.

    What's really weird is that when I first got home with my new iPhone on 6/29, I too noticed a yellow spot on the bottom left of my screen...obviously more noticeable on a white background. I was ready to take it back...but then after using the phone for the first day...the yellow spot went away. All of a sudden the yesterday 7/29...4 weeks later, a yellow spot appeared in the same exact spot...and by the end of the day it was gone again! (insert Twilight Zone theme here) Hmmmm...wonder if this will occur again on 8/29...haha!
    Wait and see if yours disappears...and if it doesn't, I'd exchange it.

  • Dim Spot When Turning Computer On

    I have a 15" Macbook Pro purchased a little over a year ago. Lately I've noticed there is an thin area in the middle of the screen that is slightly dimmer than the rest of the screen when I first turn the computer on that goes away after the machine has been running for a minute or so.
    It seems as if the spot goes away once the machine has warmed up. I've read other threads here about dim spots that are there all the time, and if that were the case I wouldn't hesitate to take the machine into the Apple store to get looked at. But I am reluctant to do so unless absolutely neccessary sine the nearest Apple store is a half hour - 40 minutes away and the dim spot fades once the computer warms up.
    Suggestions?

    I had the exact same problem...
    push the power button in and hold it to turn off the iMac.
    push it again to turn it back on
    hear the chime
    push and hold the Command-Option-P-R key combination during startup untill you hear the chime again
    this fixed my problem...for the most part, only went blurry-fuzzy once more...

  • My ipod touch 4g, has a white spot on the screen when you turn it on, what is that and how do I fix it?

    When you turn the ipod on, there is a noticeable white spot on the screen/display. Once all the apps come on you can't see it, but when it starts up you can.

    From you descriptionis is hard to tell if it a atain on the outside of the screen or just what.  Have you tried cleaning the screeen as said in the users guide:
    Cleaning iPod touch
    Clean iPod touch immediately if it comes in contact with any contaminants that may cause stains,
    such as ink, dyes, makeup, dirt, food, oils, or lotions. To clean iPod touch, disconnect all cables and
    turn off iPod touch (press and hold the On/Off button, then slide the onscreen slider). Then use a
    soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in openings. Don’t use window cleaners,
    household cleaners, compressed air, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to
    clean iPod touch. Rubbing the screen with an abrasive material may scratch the glass.
    For more information about handling iPod touch, see the iPod touch Important Product Information

  • Macbook Pro Retina Display, a rough spot on the screen.!!!

    I bought my Macbook Pro (Retina Display) from a Authorised Reseller in Malidves. Its been 3 weeks since i've bought it. Few days back i noticed a white spot on the screen. I tried to wipe the spot off with the cleaning cloth. to my surprise, the spot didn't fade. The spot was rough to touch. Any ideas what it might be???

    Take it back to the reseller.  Your warranty should cover that problem.
    Ciao.

  • I have an Intel based iMac that has just developed two small spots on the screen. One 1/8" circle at bottom and a tiny circle at top.  The fading on and off light isn't working anymore either.  Does anyone know anything about this?

    I have an Intel based iMac that has just developed two small spots on the screen - they look light brighter spots on the screen. One 1/8" circle at bottom right and a tiny circle at top right.  The fading on and off light on area surrounding the screen isn't working anymore either.  Has anyone else had similar problems?  Any solutions?  Thanks!

    One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
    If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
    Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
    Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Bright white spots on the screen?

    Hey guys, my iPhone has developed these two bright white spots on the screen. I don't think it's a hardware problem because they are not there for every application. But I have tried restarting it, completely resetting it, etc with no success. The problem is I bought in July 2007 so my warranty is up. Am I screwed?

    You can also look at LCD replacement from outside repair companies like iResQ.com. If you're not sure what's going on with the spots, you can also get a diagnosis within 24 hours from them before you decide to repair or resell. Replacement can be had for $130, back to you the day after receiving your order. Also, their techs are Apple-certified. Check it out if you're still having problems:

  • How do I get rid of an  oval dark spot showing on screen?

    A dark sport showed up in the upper right hand corner, but does not move when I rotate the unit. It seems to be getting larger. How do I get rid of it.

    If I understand the concept, the screen shot will show the spot when the screen is rotated in the same location as on the screen in normal vertical position. On mine the spot does not show on the screen shot, but remains in the same location (upper right hand corner) at all times.
    Are you saying the screen is going bad and needs to be replaced?

    Ardha,
    Welcome to the forum.  White spots on the LCD, typically a bright white spot most clearly seen against a white background like the forum, or google home page, is caused by pressure damage - pressure applied to back of the LCD panel.
    Since you indicated that you have only had the system 1 day, unless you are aware of something that happened while in your care, I can only guess that the damage was done during transport or manufacturing.  I would recommend you contact your point of purchase and ask to exchange the unit.  I would also try to power up and inspect the new system immediately to make sure all is well.
    Please also see my PM - I would like you to take a pic of the spot and email to me if possible.  While random things happen, I'd like us to take a look at this.
    Best regards,
    Mark

  • I have a small white spot on my screen

    I have a macbook air which i bought in april.  It works great but i notice it there is a small white spot on the screen that is very annoying.  It's not visual when I'm playing a game or wtching a video because there is a dark screen behind it.  When there is a light screen in front of it it's there.  It's annoying.

    Your Mac has a 1-year warranty.  If this is a hardware problem in the display (and it sounds like it is) they will fix it for free.

  • Why does my iPad have yellow like spots on the screen when the screen is on dark images.?

    When I open dark images, my iPad has this yellow like spots around the screen next to the bezel.  It only happens when there is a dark screen like for instance when a YouTube video is loadeding or when I have dark pictures. Is this normal.? Or should I take it to the Apple Store.?

    first of all was your ipad dropped on a hard floor or something if not then you should just take it to apple as that is not normal you should probably get the device replaced

  • Weird darkened spot on iPhone screen

    Few days ago I've noticed a weird yellow/darkened spot on my iPhone screen on the right side, around the SIM card. I have no idea where it came from... I didn't hit it against anything or drop it. There are no signs of damage. When the phone is on you can notice the darkened yellow color on lighter backgrounds.
    This weird spot on the screen it get brighter with more use. When the iPhone was cold it was not present.
    So what are the chances of me getting this fixed under warranty or AppleCare?
    TNX a lot for the good thoughts :-)

    I would take it to Apple and see what they say.  Worst they can say is that it's not covered under warranty.  Personally, it sounds like a screen defect to me, but only Apple will know for sure.

  • Is there any package i can use to make it click a set spot on the screen?

    Is there any package that could do something like this: that would click a certain spot on the screen over and over at timed time
    import java.PACKAGENAME;
    public class Click {
    int delay;
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    while(true) {
    click(869, 102); // a certain dot on the screen, (pixel x, pixel y);
    }

    //import awt
    java.awt.Robot rob = new Robot();
    x,y to click at.
    d delay between mouse up n down - u can just do the down too
         static void mouseClick(int x, int y,Robot rob, int d){
              doFore();
              //u.sl("do mouseClick x " + x + " y " + y + " d "  +d );
              rob.mouseMove(x, y);
              thSleep(d);
              rob.mousePress(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
              thSleep(d);
              rob.mouseRelease(InputEvent.BUTTON1_MASK);
              thSleep(d);
    /**utility sleep*/
         static void thSleep(int i){
              try{
                   //u.sl("sleep " + i + "\n");
                   Thread.sleep(i);
              }catch(Throwable e){
                   //u.se(e, e);
                   //apEr(e);
    //u.sl, apEr is logging - System.out.println(); and err.printStackTrace - can comment out those lines

  • 10.4.4 fixes many-spot patch export bug

    Some of you may have found that when you applied more than fifteen or so spot/patch fixes to an image, that many of these patches would be replaced by little squares on export - this is now fixed.
    I tried both with an old image that had this problem before (around 35 spot/patch adjustments applied), and also a new one I just randomly slapped 20-30 spot repairs on.

    <...>
    I believe he also said that
    you can now export a new master to Photoshop and it
    will still maintain the EXIF data you plug in while
    in Aperture vis a vis Photo Mechanic.
    You meant open a version for external editing, right? I just like to keep terms clear...
    Anyway, it's true enough that keywords I entered in APerture show up in Phtooshop as well, very nice. One thing that would be kind of nice is for Aperture to take any EXIF updates back into itself - so if for some crazy reason I entered a new keyword in Photoshop or edited EXIF it would be nice if Aperture picked that up on return. I know it doesn't read new keywords, I had not tried altering EXIF data.
    I am also pleased to hear verification that RAW updates are still coming, I figured they just were not included for some reason.
