Dimension automation

Hi All,
Working 7.0M on automation of Dimension master data load through SSIS package. The package is running fine and we are able to get the members in the mbr as well as dim table automaticaly however, the members are not showing up on the dimension.XLS the front end dimension sheet untill and unless an "Export dimension" task is performed.
How to avoid this and make the whole process fully automated.

Find movie dimensions with Automator?

I need to go through 300+ mp4 files to determine if their dimensions are correct to be viewed on my AppleTV.
Is there a way to:
1. Point Automator to a directory of MP4 files
2. Automator to inspect each file's dimension attribute
3. Automator to compare the dimension value to a defined value (i.e. 640x480)
4. Automator to provide a list of files whose dimensions are not correct
I cannot find a way to make Automator "look" at the dimension attribute of each file...but I am new to all of this...
Any help would be appreciated...

I've answered my own question. It wasn't easy, but I finally found some content. This site was useful for naming a number of "calibration" or "demonstration" disks, and some of those contain audio tracks encoded with various methods. Some include on-screen speaker identification so you can map your system.
I was interested in 7.1 tracks encoded with LPCM, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA.
Unfortuantely I have not found a way to properly play ANY of these. They all play, but I haven't found any software that produces 7.1 output. In general the rear surrounds never get sent a signal, even though my Mac and my receiver both indicate that the "pipe" is open.
So far, Audio Midi Setup is the only app I've found that can talk to all 8 of my speakers. But that alone is not very useful!

I'm pretty new to the JS world but have been using Photoshop for the better part of 2 decades and have ALWAYS wanted something that would let me set filesize/weight limitations. The world appears to have given up before me (which should be a sign to stop?) but I can't give up now; that, and my employer has asked me to figure this out. So here I am asking for your help.
Here's a gist of the code I have. It is "sorta" working but for some reason with larger file sizes it seems to make the file larger, then smaller etc etc. and loops infinitely. I'm thinking somehow it keeps grabbing an older version of the file, and possibly my problem might be in the saving procedure. ANY input would be extermely welcome, including suggestions on how to accomplish things more elegantly etc.

Basically I need to get the file down below 95k. First by lowering quality (because it is all that is necessary for MOST of the files I am handing in) to a limit of 50% then begin lowering size by 72px until the lower limit of pixel dimension it met.
Ideas?

Michael, any chance you have some of that code floating around? I'd like to see how you wizards tackled it vs what my mundane self is up to. I wonder if there's a way I can pass the SaveForWeb adjusted files to an automator app or a standard Photoshop action for the resizing bit, since that process is much simpler. Maybe that would help route around that file caching issue; if that is in fact what the problem was. I have noticed no issues with the first While loop handling everything down to 50% quality, but it seems like the passing from one loop to the next is where things get wonky. Ugh I know just enough JS to break things. So frustrating being so close to an answer!

Automated BSO / ASO Outline Dimension Build

Hi,
I am trying to dynamically build an BSO cube outline using RULE file and DATA files.
But am experiencing challenges.
Does the cube have to intial dimensions in the outline(ie PRODUCT)? Or any dimensions?
I am speciifying the PRODUCT dimension only in the DATA file, and in the RULE file specifying it as a PARENT, and the second row as CHILD.
But it errors.
Can this same methodology be used to build ASO cube outlines as well?
Can anyone assists in overcoming this frustrating hiccup.

The easiest way to do this is to have the dimension at least specified in advance, but if you can't do that, then you can define the dimension in the load rule. Select Dimension build settings, then go to the tab Dimension Definition. In the bottom half, you can define a dimension

Automated Duplication for Role Playing Dimensions

Im wondering if there is way to automate (short cut method) to duplicate the entire Dimension.
Simply copying and pasting or Duplicating will not create the Hierarchies.
For Example:
I have Fact_Transaction (with columns Trx_Id, Trx_Date, Create_Date, Update_Date, Invoice_Date, Amount)
I have a date dimension joined to this fact in physical layer on the Trx_Date.
Problem:
Now if I get a requirement to show the other dates 2 as dimension,
I need to create alias for the same time dim and manually create the dimensions and hierarchies in the BMM layer.
Is there any much better way we can do this using some scripts (xudml, /commands, ..etc)

Automation of updates of dimension properties/NEWID using Admin_MAKEDIM

We are trying to automate the changes to the properties to the dimension members and NEWID's to existing ID's. We have a SSIS that updates the mbrdimension table correctly but when we run the Admin_MAKEDIM from datamanager it is not applying the updates to the dimension members. But if there are new members they are updating ok.
Does Admin_Makedim process/apply changes to the dimension member properties and ID's ?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Were you able to get this to work?
The properties and new members need to exist in your temporary table.
The contents of the temporary table are then copied to the mbr table and then the dimension is processed.
Please note that the Excel member sheet is not update so you either need to manually export the dimension member sheet (there is an option to do this in the BPC Admin module) or you can create a process in SSIS to extract the contents of the Mbr table to the member sheet in the ADMINAPP folder.

Account dimension hierarchy text nodes ACCTYPE property

Hello,
We have master data being populated into BPC from BW. So for the Account dimension in BPC, we use the 0GL_ACCOUNT infoobject in BW. This infoobject also has all the Financial statement version hierarchies which are being loaded to BPC. The question that I have is, how should the hierarchy text node values for ACCTYPE property be populated if I have to automate this load on a daily basis.
For the actual GL accounts, we have the account number ranges defined. Like 1* series accounts are Assets etc..So we can easily define a rule for populating the ACCTYPE property values. But not sure if there is any easy logic for populating the hierarchy text nodes as we dont have any pattern in them. Would we need to maintain it manually always?

If there is really no logic behind them there is off course no way of automating this. Then I guess you will have to maintain each node separately.
Some customers are also willing to change their text node structure. For example I had one when where the rules for the 0HIER_NODE records were as follows:
*           EXP -> Starts with 32*, 311*, 312*, 321*, 3111*, 3112*,
*                  3142*, 31111*, 31112*, 311111*
*           INC -> Starts with TOT, 3000000000, 3100000000, 313*,
*                  322*, 3113*, 3141*, 31113*, 311112*
*           AST -> Starts with 1*
*           LEQ -> Starts with 2*

How to prevent BPC from automated calculating for hierarchies / nodes?

Hi experts,
I am looking for a practicable way to prevent the system from automated calculating for hierarchies, and especially for nodes within hierarchies?
Let's say, I have ENTITIES (AS A HIERACHY) in rows and ACCOUNTS in COLUMNS. Now I want the system to block adding up the values for one specific account on node XY. Instead of the sum of all base member entities, the cell for account XY should be left empty.
Is there a practicable way to deal with this?

you can prevent the system to calculate a node by editing the Formula Property in the Dimension.
You can insert 0 or null to the Formula field for the specific element.
But in this case the values from your leaf elements lying under your node wont be calculated even in higher hierarchy nodes.
For ex.: with the following structure
-A
---A1
A11
A12
---B1
B11
B12
If you set A1 to 0, the top node A will only be calculated by values of B1

Does anyone know of an automated way to add the documents dimensions to the slug area? I've tried searching around but haven't found any results more recent than 2009. I'm using CS4.

Issue Importing measures against dimensions loaded via SSIS

Hi,
We are new to BPC and currently working in a test environment. We are having issues with importing measure data against dimensions that we are attempting to automate via SSIS. I will apologize in advance for the long post, but want to give as many details as possible.
Here is the scenario:
We installed BPC v. 5.1 SP1 on SQL Server 2005, but have since installed SP2 and SP3.
We created our own app set as a copy of AppShell. We added some user defined dimensions and created a custom application as a copy of Finance.
For initial testing, we loaded members into all dimensions via the Admin console and the Excel member sheets. We also used the Import function in data manager to upload measure data into our custom application.
We are now trying to automate the population of members for some of our dimensions (Entity and 4 user defined dimensions).
All of our data is mastered in SAP (we're on ERP 2005/ECC 6.0) with replications to our BI system (7.0). We are using custom ABAP programs to create flat files for 3 of the dimensions. For 2 dimensions, we are extracting from BI via Open hub.
We have created SSIS packages to load data from the files into the relevant mbr tables. We're taking things one step at a time and currently are processing the dimensions manually via the Admin Console - making sure that "Process members from member sheet" is unchecked.
In our first attempts at loading dimension data via the SSIS package, we tried loading only a subset of the member data (forgetting about the measure data that had previously been loaded). Because we were missing members in the load files for which measure data existed, we received data integrity errors upon processing the dimensions. Once we loaded the full member data, the dimensions processed successfully.
Our issue comes now when we're again importing measure data. Before starting to "automate" our dimensions, I had successfully loaded several months worth of measures. I had also tested clearing out one month of data. Now, I am trying to reload that month of measure data. I am using the same file as I had used previously, but the Import function is now rejecting all records. The dimension members it is rejecting are valid dimension members, but they are all from dimensions we are attempting to automate.
Has anyone encountered an issue like this before? Even if you haven't, do you have any thoughts on what our issue might be? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There actually could be a couple different things. The processing of the dimension could have encountered an error and therefore did not update the sql dim table association with the dimension. You should check to see if the dimDIMENSION sql table actual have any members in it and if the members you are trying to load to are there. If there were any errors in processing the mbr table the dim table will be empty.
Also the automated update could have added extra character to the member name such as a trailing space which would actually make the dimension member name different than what is in the membersheet.
In your automated dimension update, it would be a good idea to update the membersheet as well as the mbr sql table. Then you can process the dimension from the sheet in the admin tool to troubleshoot any errors in your memberset.

Creation of offline cubes from pivot table[Automation]

I have a pivot table on which i can slice data based on 3 different users so i create the offline cube for each of them independently
using Analyse->OLAP Tools->Offline OLAP.
So i need to repeat this process 3 times since each time i only select one user and deselect the other 2 in the offline OLAP offline
cube creation wizard.
My question is that can this process be automated because in case there are ,say 100 users the manual work will be too much.
Can i get information on the plugin in Excel which does the Offline Cube Creation.

It works perfectly when the number of dimensions on which i slice data are small(around 10).
However i need to do this operation on around 90 dimensions so as a result i just keep on seeing this:

Is there any way to batch change resolution, but not pixel dimensions?

I was changing the resolution of my digital photos from 180 to 300 ppi individually as I edited them, but sometimes I would forget. Since I need the higher resolution for printing, I decided to automate that step by using PSE's "Process Multiple Files" feature. I noted that the Resolution selection was grayed out until I checkmarked "Resize Images." Since I didn't want to change the number of pixels, I left those fields blank.
When I started the automated processing I noticed it was terribly slow, so I cancelled it and looked at the resulting files. They had more than doubled in file size because PSE was nearly doubling the Pixel Dimensions! I don't want to try a work-around by "resizing" to the current pixel dimensions, because the processing still takes about 45 seconds per file, and if I've cropped the photos, the pixel dimensions vary. Is there an automated way to change only the resolution in PSE . . . quickly?
Also, I really wanted to double the resolution from 180 ppi to 360 ppi, but PSE limits my choices to either 600 or 300 or less. I've read about Scripts, but I don't think PSE supports them. I have version 6.

Thanks for your input, and you may be right, but I'm not sure. I'm still trying to figure this out. I know it's the same photo on my monitor, but I keep reading that print resolution (ppi) is different from pixel resolution (i.e. 2000x3000.) This is my situation-- I'm sending the photos to a publisher for printing in a book. The publisher did not specify a size in inches--in fact I think the photos will be different sizes when printed on the page. They told me to send the photos in at 1600x1200 pixels. I've heard that 300 ppi is the standard resolution for publishing, so to get decent quality printing of my photos I thought I should increase the resolution from 180 to 300. But thinking about the different sizes, it seems that the resolution (ppi) will change depending on the size the photo is actually printed. At 300 ppi, a 1600x1200 photo will be printed at size 5.333" X 4". If a photo is printed full bleed on the cover of the book that is 8" x 10.667", then it will be 150 ppi. So, I guess you are right that I don't need to worry about the ppi resolution for the book photos.
Now, let me figure about what I need to print my own 4x6 photos. My digital camera was set to 16x9 jpg, so my workflow is to make PNG copies to work with and after editing, save them in the 16x9 format before cropping at 1600x1200 pixels, then sharpening before doing Save As jpg in Book folder. I was thinking I needed to change the resolution to 300 ppi when saving in the 16x9 format so if I want to later make 4x6 prints, I'll have good quality prints. But you have made me think a little harder--what I do is choose the 4x6 crop tool which takes care of whatever ppi resolution is needed for that size print. Oh good, you have saved me extra work. (BTW, I choose the 16x9 format because I was planning to use the photos in a widescreen slideshow, but my husband wanted something he could hold in his hand--hence, the book . . . and a lot of cropping!)

Which bytes should be edited in a WMF hex string stored in an RTF file in order to change image dimensions?

I would like to save the WMF file with proper dimensions as they are in the editor (my saved WMFs have the dimensions of my screen resolution). They come from a RichEdit.

For each 2 chars in this string I converted it to hex and saved it through a memory stream. Then I opened it in Paint or GIMP and there is the image. I even can convert it to a PNG file through ImageMagick tool. But the dimensions are wrong. How to fix
this?

I could guess that the header is not OK, but how they can be opened by Paint and converted? So I guess the dimensions info is wrong in the header. In GIMP even the dimensions are right, here a link to the GIMP's dialogbox confirmation with the dimensions

So the info is there, but is wrong. When I open the images in Paint, they are wrong. Microsoft Office Picture Manager can also open them correctly, but could not convert them so. I need to do it programmatically. TMetafile Delphi class could not open these
