Dimension Management

Hi,
In BPC we create a Dimension first then to this dimension we add properties(which are equivalent to charcteristics) and what is being done in the member sheet, to what are memebers eqivalent in BW. and what are property values. I read couple of documents on Dimension Management, but still have a confusion around this concept. Could anyone explain this to me.
Points will be assigned.

Oracle does not provide any tool for altering the contents on an existing dmp file.
What you probably should do is filter the data prior to extraction. There are actually third party tools to do this such as Priceton Softtech had such a tool which IBM bought the company to get. It would extract data into files and then manipulate the table column data while maintaining the PK to FK relationships. That is if it changed the value of a PK it would update all the FK that pointed to the old value to point to the new value.
Naturally, you can do this yourself.
You could define a set of manipulation tables, insert/select the data, manipulate it, then export and import the data from these tables.
Filtering can be fairly simple or pretty complex depending on the number of objects involved, the amount of data, and the number of sensitive columns.

Restart dimension services without disrupting live system

I am currently getting the messages - "Could not connect to Dimension Server. Please make sure that the required services are started." / "An error occurred processing the result from the server." / "Required application module awb.dimeditor is not configured." / "Required application module awb.appmanager is not configured." - but currently have a number of users inputting into Planning to make a tight deadline....
Is there anyway I can safetly restart the necessary services for dimension library and connected functionality (application manager, calculation manager) to work without disrupting end user input?
i.e. Which services do I need to restart to get Dimension Manager back and edit business rules - and can I do so without disruption of normal service for everyone else

The error relates to EPMA so you should be able to restart the EPMA services and not effect the planning application.

How to add Dimensions to the data in OEID

Hi ,
I am relatively new to OEID with some background on Endeca web commerce.
We are trying to import the data from OBIEE server into the OEID . We are able to achieve this by using Load Data from OBI server option in Integrator.
The issue we are facing is that all the attributes are under navigation pane in studio when we load the data source in a studio application. What we need to have is to remove some of the attributes (that are not managed) and add some managed attributes (a.k.a dimension).I understand PDR and DDR need to be worked on . But my question is that how is the association of attribute to the PDR and DDR managed?
Any help would be appreciated. Or any pointer to the document that can help in this will also be great as I could not find documentation to add dimensions(managed attributes)

Is it mandatory that I have OUTER_TRANSACTION_ID (even if I try to run this current graph only) ? The OUTER_TRANSACTION_ID parameter is necessary if you want to run the graph as part of an outer transaction. Configuration graphs such as this one are often included in outer transactions used to refresh the data domain. You can omit it from the Web Service Client during development, but if you decide you want to include the graph in an outer transaction, you will need to add it.
I am adding a Web Services Client and linked to the input port of this WSC ,the output port of the transformer. Where does the code mentioned in the link goes?Do we need to keep the code in a file and pass the URL to the WSC because looks like that is what it takes. As stated earlier in the topic, graphs used to load the standard attribute schema generally follow a standard pattern. See http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E39272_01/integrator.300/integrator_users/src/ci_csv_based_configuration_graphs.html for details about these graphs.
You do not need to store the output of the Transformer as a file. The XML document output by the Transformer component is held in memory during processing.
Note, BTW, that your graph should also include a Denormalizer component between the Transformer and the Web Services Client.
Basically, once the input is read into the graph, it is processed by a Transformer component to create an XML document that can be incorporated into a Web Services request.
The XML document output from the Transformer component includes line breaks. The line breaks cause the input Web Services request to be terminated incorrectly. Therefore, the output from the Transformer should be fed into a Denormalizer component and converted into a single XML string. This string is then added to the Web services request in the Web Services client and submitted to the Endeca Server.

Distribution static reports issue

Hi,
We are having problems trying to distribute a data entry using the EPM Distribute option. The process finishes correctly and We don't know why but it generates two folders: one named as the user and another with the name of the template, when we open the generated reports without being connected to EPM10 we can see errors in formulas, as it can't recognize the EPM formulas, indicating that the process has not set to offline mode the template, another problem is that we don't see any data in the generated reports, so it seems that the whole process doesn't work.
We are working with version BPC10 NW Patch02 SP7. NET 4

The report is not protected, in rows we have two dimensions (Clients and Products) and in columns we have the dimension time and category.
When we create the distribution template we put as Variable members two elements of the dimension Manager and the others are as Fixed members.

Psql procedure to call 2 procedures(one by one)

Hi All,
I am very new to plsql, great if any1 could help me in getting to the right track
my problem is , I need to write a stored procedure which is going to call another stored procedure(lets call this first stored proc as procedure_A) and I have to make sure that it gets completed and then only I call the next stored procedure(lets call it procedure_B) and so on .. I have to do this for 26 stored procedures.
PS: I need to make sure when 1st procedure gets going, it needs to finish and then only the next procedure should start and so on for the 26 stored procedures that I need to call, I hope I am clear with my problem, please help me.

BIC2g Image - Dec 2010 - EPMA is not working

I am working on BIC2g Image - Dec 2010 and enabled all EPMA related services but still I could not see EPMA components (Dimension Manager, Application Manager etc.) in the Workspace?
Anyone has any suggestion?

Let me give you some ideas on each of the courses.
BPC 310: Application configuration in BPC MS. It includes, Application management, dimension management, security, BPF, etc
BPC 320: Reporting and input schedules in BPC MS
BPC 330: This is kind of combination of BPC 310 and 320 but with the flavor of BPC NW
BPC 340: This course focuses on consolidation process in NW.
Each of the courses are independant and are equally important for the certification. The certification will involve questions from each of these books. The questions have a mix of functional and technical.

A data manager package applies to a particular application only. It cannot access dimensions from another application.

Unable to create dimension in Analytic Workspace manager

I am trying to create dimension using Analytic Workspace Manager(AWM) and it throws the following error.

Import Comments data and Dimension Members from csv file via Data Manager

Dear Experts,
I have two questions regarding the data manager.
Q1.Is it possible to import "Comments" from the csv file via Data Manager?
We'd like to import the amount with "Comments".
My image of csv file is like below;
ACCOUNT,CATEGORY,TIME,ENTITY,INPUTCURRENCY,AMOUNT,COMMENTS
1100000,ACTUAL,2010/06,LC,30000,This is comment
Q2.Is it possible to import the dimension "members" from the csv file via Data Manager?
We have a user-defined dimension named "Project"
and would like to import the members, instead of maintaining them in BPC administration manually.
I found an online help information which says "Import Master Data from a Data File Example",
but I could not find any relevant sample package for this.
(I tried to import the members by using "Import" package, but it failed...)

Hi Fumi,
In this case, I would suggest you to create a customized SSIS package which will fill-in the "Comment<APP>" table, according to the csv file you have. I do not know any standard package that allows you to import comment the way you would like...

Dimension only query to show manager and employees in one row

Hi Gurus,
I am creating a dimension only report. This report will show managers and their direct reportees. Since one manager can have several employees working under him, I am getting one row in the report for each employee. But our end users want employees to appear as comma seperated value for the manager. Thus each manager will have one and only one record in the report

Google ask Tom for string aggregation - there is a listagg equivalent available there, create on your DB then follow the same principal as the listagg / evaluate example.

BPC10 - Data manager package for dimension data export and import

Dear BPC Expers,
Need your help.
I am trying to set up a data manager package for first time to export dimension - master data from one application and import in another application ( both have same properties) .
I created a test data manager package from Organize > add package > with process chain /CPMB/EXPORT_MD_TO_FILE and Add
In the advance tab of each task there are some script logic already populated. please find attached the details of the script logic written under each of the tasks like MD_Source, concvert and target .
I have not done any chnages in the script inside the task .
But when i run the package , I have selected a dimension 'Entity' but in second prompt ,it ask for a transformation file , and syatem autometically add the file ... \ROOT\WEBFOLDERS\COLPAL\FINANCE\DATAMANAGER\TRANSFORMATIONFILES\Import.xls
I have not changed anything there
in the next prmpt , it ask for a output file ..and it won't allow me enter the file name .....i
Not sure how to proceed further.
I shall be greatfull if someone guide me from your experiance how to set up a simple the data manager package for master data export from dimension . Should I update the transformation file in the script for import file and output file in the advance tab. how and what transformation file to be created and link to the data manager package for export / import .
What are the steps to be executed to run the package for exporting master data from dimension and import it another application .

1. Perhaps you want to consider a system copy to a "virtual system" for UAT?
2. Changes in QAS (as with PROD as well) will give you the delta. They should ideally be clean... You need to check the source system.
Another option is to generate the profiles in the target system. But for that your config has to be sqeaky clean and in sync, including very well maintained and sync'ed Su24 data.

Creating Dimension using template in Analytical workspace manager

I am rajan, I am working with Oracle's Analytical workspace manager Release 2.
I am trying to create the dimension using the templates from the file. it throws the following error,
