Dimension selection on Chart

Hello Experts,
I am new to Design Studio and trying out few things to get acquainted with the tool. I have a query regarding the dimension selection on chart component in Design Studio.
e.g. I added a data source DS_1 with State, City and Store in Rows and Revenue in Columns in Initial Data View. Now I put the Column chart component on the canvas and when I assigned DS_1 to chart it shows State, City and Store everything on the same chart whereas I wanted to show only State wise Revenue on it. Is there anyway I can select dimensions to be shown on the chart? Only way I am aware of till now is to change the Initial Data View of data source DS_1. But that means if I have multiple charts on dashboard, I need to create separate data sources for each?
Please let me know.
Regards,
Abhijit

Abhijit,
You will have to create multiple data sources in this case and use techniques mentioned in the Section 3 of the blog below to optimize performance.

Also note that DS loads data sources sequentially and not parallel, so the more data sources you have that will impact the performance.

  • Dimension selection for chart in Design Studio

    Hello everyone,
I have created a data source as shown below. Now i need only sales group dimension to be selected in my chart, i don't want to remove plant and material from my data source as it will give incorrect summation result i.e weighted avg.(weighted avg is based on other two key figure in bex, calculation is at detailed level then sum up weighted avg.)
Is there any option to select the dimension? or Is there any option to calculate by summing up all the weight avg. by sales group wise and store that data in JSON then use it in the chart?
Sales Group    Plant    Material    weight avg.
    A                       A1    A11        100
    A                       A1    A12        75
    A                       A2    A21        75
    A                       A2    A22        100
    A                       A2    A23        50
    A                       A3    A31        150
    B                       B1    B11        200
    B                       B1    B12        10
    B                       B2    B21        20
    B                       B2    B22        20
    B                       B2    B23        50
    B                       B3    B31        70

    Hi,
you have to press the right mouse button on the chart (it is not so easy - there are 2 different context menus) -> in context menu -> properties -> web item -> chart setting -> chart type

  • How to populate data in TargetCube from SourceCube for a particular product/currency dimension selected in form1.

    Hi,
Need help regarding Business rule scenario "How to populate data in "Target Form (plantype2)" from "Source Form(plantype1)" for a particular product/currency dimension combination selected in form1"
Scenario 1) :  I have data for Product(Computer)/Currency(USD) dimension combination in Source Form
When i open Target Form and then select a Product(Computer)/Currency(USD) combination and then right click on form to invoke a Business rule to get data for this same                     product/currency combination from Source Form.
Scenario 2) : If there isnt any data in Source Form for product(Computer)/Currency(USD) combination, then the data for product(computer)/Currency(Default Currency) to be populated into Target                     Form.
The members in Currency Dimension (Shared Dimension) are USD & Default Currency.
    Can anyone please help.
    Thanks,
    Rajkumar

Adding to what Celvin Kattookaran has said
You can either write a Business Rule / Calculation script with @XREF function and also you can check condition if there is data in USD then populate USD else "Default currency"
If you want that data in source to be available in target, then you can use @XWRITE in a rule from source cube to push the data to Target.

  • Sustainable Rectangle for Region Selection In Charts

There is a built in feature in Charts which can be used to select items by mouseselected area ,even multiple selection can be made.
But my requirement is that  i want that selected region which is shown as a transparent rectangle to exist even after mouse button is released.
So that a rectangle is shown and inside that selected items are highlighted. I am not sure if there is any direct way [ to make that selected region a RECT].
currently i am trying to  draw rectangle with graphics.drawrect after getting co-ordinates on mouse Down an Up events. but am not able to add it to chart.
If Anyone has done or know ,please let me know the suitable way.

Prad, there's an example here that shows something similar to what you are trying to do:
    http://demo.quietlyscheming.com/ChartSampler/app.html
Under Customization, look at the Annotation example. You can combine the logic from this with your selection logic to make a persistent rectangle of selected chart items.

  • Dynamic selection of charts?

    XI3.1 SP3
How would it be possible to create a drop down (filter?) that would allow a user to select the type of graph they would like to view within a report?
So I would have say, 4 charts,  each layed over the other and the user would be able to select the view of their choise. (similar to xcelsius) ??
    Thanks so much!

Hi, I have a couple of blog posts that suggest ideas for doing this. You could use a drill-filter or an input control either one, although those are not the exact techniques I outlined.

I have also built reports where a chart switches from a pie to a column based on the number of values returned, but I don't think I have written that one up as a blog post yet. It uses a very similar technique.

  • DNG Profile Edito ERROR on selecting color chart

    Hi,
when I select a photo of the color checker card (DNG from Sinar e65 back) and want to create the color tables I get an error message
    Runtime Error(PE_ASSERT)
    A fatal runtime error....
    Description: invalid hue
    Source filename: pe_recipe.cpp
    Source line: 2734
The Profile Editor quits after that.
    Any idea ?
    Bug ?

    Hi Eric,
a wonder, mirical or what ?
    Now it works.
I have created a simple profile without the color checker card. Now when I load the DNG the Profile Editor uses that profile and I have no problem anymore working witht he photo of the color checker card.
I assume, as the "Sinar Hy6 65" is unknown to Adobe by now that you must have known profile as base to be able to use the automated tools for colors.
May be a matter for the doucmentation.

    Features
In the Administration context is a Custom Configuration link which opens the Pattern Configuration iView. The Pattern Configuration iView provides central access to xRPM pattern configuration for the Portfolio Administrator. The Pattern Configuration screen allows the user to configure charts and patterns which are then viewable in other contexts. Pattern Configuration exposes the configuration components of the following patterns:
    ·         Dashboard Patterns
    ·         Charting Patterns (for charts and tables)
    ·         Cockpit Configuration
The patterns can be configured with these data sources:
    ¡        /Rpm/Portfolio_Getlist
    ¡        /Rpm/Bucket_Getlist
    ¡        /Rpm/Item_Getlist
    ¡        /Rpm/Review_Getlist
    ¡        /Rpm/Qnnr_Get_List
    ¡        /Rpm/Person_Getlist
    ¡        /Rpm/Decision_Point_Getlist
This allows the administrator to configure runtime instances for these patterns and store the corresponding configuration metadata in the J2EE runtime repository.
Once the patterns have been selected, and the data sources chosen in the Pattern Configuration screen in the Administration context, then user charts, tables and dashboards will contain data formatted in the manner the user has configured, and they will be viewable via the Reporting Cockpit to one of the Analytics iViews located in the other contexts:
    Context
    To Access the Analytics iView
    Portfolio Management context
At the Portfolio level context, click the Reporting Cockpit link.
For the Item level context, open an Item, then click Reporting Cockpit link.
For the review context, click Reviews link, select a Review, then click Reporting Cockpit link.
For the bucket level context, click Portfolio Structure, select one Bucket, then click Reporting Cockpit link.
    Item Management context
Select an item, then click Reviews link, select a Review, then click Reporting Cockpit link.
In addition to allowing the user to select a pattern and a data source, the features on the Pattern Configuration screen also allow the user to:
    ·         Enter and edit configuration data for dashboard configurations
    ·         Enter and edit configuration data for charting configurations
    ·         Enter and edit configuration data for cockpit configuration
    ·         Save specific configuration instances
    ·         Preview specific configuration instances
    ·         Load existing configuration instances per data source and per pattern
    ·         Delete specific configuration instances.
    Important
Configurations are bound to a “Data Source”. A data source represents a RFC function module return table – for example data source “Rpm_Item_Getlist-Et_Items” represents the return list of RFC function “/RPM/ITEM_GETLIST”.
Different data sources contain different fields (for example, an item has different attributes than a portfolio), hence all chart configurations, and all dashboard configurations, and all cockpit configurations are bound to a “Data Source”.
    Pattern
    Configurations
    Dashboard Patterns
The dashboard configuration screen allows the user to create new and modify existing dashboard configurations.
A dashboard configuration defines how the result of a specific query is rendered in a dashboard pattern instance. For every dashboard visible to the user, a pattern instance has to be configured, e.g. the visual component Portfolio Dashboard has its own configuration PortList.
    Charting Patterns
The chart configuration screen allows the user to display and modify existing chart configurations and to create new chart configurations.
A chart configuration defines how the result of a specific query (the data returned by a specific data source) is used to render a chart.
    Cockpit Configuration
The cockpit configuration screen allows the user to display and modify existing cockpit configurations and to create new cockpit configurations.
A cockpit configuration defines how the result of a specific query (the data returned by a specific data source) is used to render one or more charts and or dashboards.
Cockpit configurations are also bound to a data source, so within a cockpit configuration only chart and dashboard configurations from the corresponding data source can be used.
    Integration
    Pattern
    Integration
    Dashboard Patterns
The dashboard configuration is integrated into the pattern configuration.
After a configuration has been saved, it can be selected in the cockpit configurator, where existing chart and dashboard configurations can be combined into one cockpit configuration.
The Analytics view for Portfolios, Buckets and Reviews renders for each of the charts or dashboards as defined in the used cockpit configuration all items within that Portfolio, Bucket or Review respectively.
Each of these dashboards is rendered as defined in the corresponding dashboard configuration.
    Charting Patterns
The chart configuration is integrated into the pattern configuration.
After a configuration has been saved it can be selected in the cockpit configurator, where several chart and dashboard configurations can be combined to one cockpit configuration.
The Analytics view for Portfolios, Buckets and Reviews renders for each of the charts or dashboards (as defined in the used cockpit configuration) all items within that Portfolio, Bucket or Review respectively.
Each of these charts is rendered as defined in the corresponding chart configuration.
    Cockpit Configuration
The cockpit configuration is integrated into the pattern configuration.
To assign any chart or dashboard configurations to a pattern, the pattern configurations must first have been created.
The Analytics view for Portfolios, Buckets and Reviews renders for each of the charts or dashboards as defined in the user cockpit configuration (see below) all items within that Portfolio, Bucket or Review respectively.
    Prerequisites
    Dashboard Patterns
    ·        The iView must be connected to the backend system.
    ·        No special plug-in is required.
    ·        No specific support package/ patch is required.
    ·        The dashboard configuration has to be set in the iView properties.
    ·        No legal requirements are known.
    Charting Patterns
To render charts, the J2EE has to be linked to a running IGS via HTTP. The IGS URL is set up in the J2EE Administration

    Cockpit Configuration
Create chart and dashboard configurations as needed for your cockpit.
    Settings
This application is an administrative tool and requires no high level customization.
Users can follow steps to create new dashboard configurations, new chart configurations and new cockpit configurations.
To create a new dashboard configuration, users take the following steps:
    Select a data source
Enter a descriptive table title in Dashboard Header
Enter a value for Width (Note: The width can be entered either in pixel or percentage (e.g. “600px”/ “75%”)
If no width entry is made, the table width is defaulted to 100%.
Check values for table sorting/ filtering
Select required buttons on the dashboard toolbar.
Add dashboard columns by selecting single/ multiple fields in the table Fields and pressing the button Add as Column(s).
Move added dashboard columns up or down by using buttons Move up/ Move down on the table Dashboard Columns.
Remove no required columns from the table Dashboard Columns by selecting column and pressing button Remove.
Configure each column to be either text, link, or linked icon by checking values for Icon and Link in every selected column.
Press button Preview to view runtime instance of current configuration data.
Enter configuration name in Save as and press button Save.
To create a new chart configuration, users take the following steps:
Pick a chart type, which matches your requirements
Fill out all header fields like “Description”, “Chart Header” and so on.
Assign one field to each chart dimension
To assign a field to a chart dimension
Select the chart dimension either via the drop-down list-box or by selecting the corresponding row in table “Chart Dimensions”
After a chart dimension has been selected a filter is set for row “Data Type” in table “Fields”. So only fields are shown with at data type which matches the selected chart dimension. It is not recommended to assign fields with a different data type then the suggested one. Most of the times this would cause a dump when the chart is rendered.
Assign a field to the chart dimension by simply selecting the corresponding row in the “Fields” table and pressing the “Map” button.
    Save the configuration.
After the configuration has been saved it can be assigned to a cockpit configuration.
The following chart types are currently supported:
    Portfolio Chart
Each rendered object is represented by one circle; the position and size of that circle are defined by assigned dimensions.
    A vs. B Portfolio Chart
Each rendered object is represented by one circle; the position and size of that circle are defined by assigned dimensions. This chart can be used as a Risk/Reward diagram.
    Column Chart
Each rendered object is represented by one column – Used to do a simple nominal comparison
    Column Sets Chart
Each rendered object is represented by 3 column – Used to compare forecast / planned / actual numbers of several objects
    Bar Chart
Each rendered object is represented by one bar  – Used to do a simple nominal comparison
    Gantt Chart
In this chart the x-axis represents time. Each rendered object is represented by one bar with its length defined by the assigned start and end time of that object.
    Gantt Sets Chart
In this chart the x-axis represents time. Each rendered object is represented by 3 bars with their length defined by the assigned start and end times of that object. Used to compare forecast / planned / actual dates of several objects
To create a new cockpit configuration, users take the following steps:
Fill out all header fields like “Description”, “Cockpit Header” and so on.
Add as many tables or charts as you need to your cockpit by pressing the button “Add Table/Chart”.
You can get a first idea how the cockpit is going to look like from the “Cockpit Layout” area.
You can arrange the position of each cell (chart or dashboard) within the cockpit by
Changing the number of columns of the cockpit (change the value in field “Columns” and press button “Apply”)
Selecting a cell and pressing one of the “Move” buttons
Changing the column span of a cell (Select a cell, change the value of field “Column Span” and press button “Apply Changes”)
Define the content of each cell
    Select a cell
Set the cell to be a chart or dashboard via the matching radio button
If the cell is a chart assign a chart configuration
If the cell is a dashboard assign a dashboard configuration
If you have set the header field “Place in individual Trays” provide a “Tray Title”
    Save the configuration.
After the configuration has been saved it can be assigned to a cockpit configuration.
For technical reasons a cockpit can be previewed only once without restarting. If a user wants to preview it again, the user must save the configuration, restart the iView (by pressing the link “Custom Configuration” on the left hand navigation panel) and then reload the newly saved configuration. Only then can the user press preview a second time.

  • QGC1 control chart selection

    Hello,
I would like to select control chart through QGC1 transaction, I only need to select one control chart by the control chart number, as there is no selection field in main selection screen, I used dynamic selections to enter control chart number as selection condition, but it seems system would not consider the restriction in dynamic selections, it selected more than one control charts finally.
Can anyone help me understanding why this happened? How can I select only one control chart by control chart number?
    Thanks a lot.
    Benny

    Dear Benny
I think this functionality is not available for selecting the chart.
But i would suggest you to create variant for each chart and number it according to the chart number.

  • DS 1.3 Charts will not release the selected Item.

    Hello all,
I have problem with Design Studio 1.3 we developed a couple of dashboards with DS 1.2. Now we upgraded dashboards to 1.3. We used Chart selection functionality to filter values on other charts etc. We also using dynamic visibility if you click on a chart it filters another chart and disappears and brings a new chart. To go back, we used a button to clear filter and make the first chart visible.
Now, before upgrading after the chart disappeared and clicked on a button to remove the filters, the chart would release the selected item on itself. However, after the upgrade, this won't work because the chart won't release the selected item. It just keeps selecting even after we clear all filters and make it visible.
I have been searching and trying to find a solution for this, but I couldn't come up with some kind of idea. And in scripts and don't see setSelectedItem or setSelectedValue or reset the selection. etc
    1. Create a button with the script below: (BUTTON_1) This will clear the filter and make the chart disappear.
    DS_2.clearFilter("0PLANT"); //Map DS_2 to another chart
    CHART_1.setVisible(false); //Chart using DS_1
    2. Create another button with the script below: (BUTTON_2) This will set the chart visible.
    CHART_1.setVisible(true);
    3. Click CHART_1 and select item.
    4. Click BUTTON_1 to clear selected filter.
    5. Click BUTTON_2 to make CHART_1 visible again.
One you click the second button it will set the filter back which was clicked in step 3.
Does anyone have idea on this? How could I reset the charts' selection?
Your help will be appreciated it greatly.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
In Design Studio 1.3  (SP0 & SP1), enhancing functionality was delivered with the new ability of the user to bookmark design studio applications and recall these bookmarks within the application. This resulted in changes to the behaviour of charts wrt selection of chart members....
As I understand this, the issue here is really around chart selection not persisting in Design studio 1.2, while chart selection is persisted in 1.3 release.
In 1.2 release, when the original chart is hidden and made visible again , the chart selection is not present when the chart reappears, and does not need to be cleared. In this case the chart is rerendered in its initial state in the browser (no selection).
In 1.3 release, selection within the chart is now persisted in general, this can be seen when a chart with a selection is hidden and made visible. In this case the chart is rerendered with selected member present in the browser. By clearing this selection within the chart, the user is now firing again the OnSelect event. (This causes the chart to be hidden and data source filtered again).
The scripting attached to the chart just needs to be modifed slightly to cover this scenario. The result of the getSelectedMember() func call needs to be checked to see if a valid selection is returned.
    For example :
    var temp = CHART_1.getSelectedMember("0BC_TYPE");
    if (temp.text != "") {
          DS_1.setFilter("0BC_TYPE", temp);
          CHART_1.setVisible(false);
          CHART_2.setVisible(true);
The addition of an "if" statement in this case (marked in bold above), checks that if a member within the chart is not selected, in this case no value ("") is returned, and the Data src is not filtered/charts are not hidden & shown as before.
So the issue in 1.3 SP1 is in relation to the persistence of the selection within the chart, which when cleared, fires the onSelect event again (resulting in undesired filtering of data src again).
Hopefully the above scripting will resolve this issue for you....
    Best regards,
    Brian

  • Studio : Chart Based on day/month/year

In Studio , There is a requirement for us to display chart based on day/month/year .
Since Date attribute is not displayed as a Dimension in the chart configuration list , I have divided  date attribute into  day/month/year attributes and based on that I generated a sample chart
But now I'm facing with a problem
Suppose there are records for only July and Sep then the chart shows up for July and Sep , It doesn't show up for august.
I agree that there are no records for august in my data domain that is the reason august is not displayed in the chart . But as per our requirement we should display august as well with zero count.
I'm curious to know if there is any way to do this .

The idea behind the calendar record type is it is a secondary, new record type you're introducing that compliments your "sales" record type.  The RECORDs you provided would be your "sales" record type, not your "calendar" record type.  To continue with your example, your "sales" records would look like what you provided:
    =============== RECORD ==================
    Id: 1
    sales_amount : 1000
    Month: Oct
    RecordType: sales
    date: 2012-10-01T00:00:00.000Z
    day: 01
    year: 2012
    =============== RECORD ==================
    Id: 5
    sales_amount: 1000
    Month: Dec
    RecordType: sales
    date: 2012-12-01T00:00:00.000Z
    day: 01
    year: 2012
    ==========================================
And your "calendar" record type would be loaded subsequently.  I usually provide one Endeca record for every day for this record type:
    =============== RECORD ==================
    Id: 1
    Month: Oct
    RecordType: calendar
    date: 2012-10-01T00:00:00.000Z
    day: 01
    year: 2012
    =============== RECORD ==================
    Id: 2
    Month: Oct
    RecordType: calendar
    date: 2012-10-02T00:00:00.000Z
    day: 02
    year: 2012
    ==========================================
(and so on, one for each day up to today...yawn)....
    =============== RECORD ==================
    Id: 790
    Month: July
    RecordType: calendar
    date: 2013-07-31T00:00:00.000Z
    day: 31
    year: 2013
    ==========================================
Thus, when you write an EQL statement like:
    RETURN foo AS SELECT
    SUM(sales_amount) AS "TotSales"
    GROUP BY Month
You will get a Month bucket for every month, where the "calendar" record type will be sure to offer a month where sales don't offer it...aka. fill in any "holes".

  • Slicer Time Dimension Issue with Cube Functions

    Hi,
Hoping someone can help me figure out right approach here.
    Summary:
Using Excel 2013 connected to a SSAS cube as data source, and cube functions with slicers to create a dashboard.
Have following time dimension slicers; Fiscal Year, Fiscal Quarter, Fiscal Month, Fiscal Week & Date, that are used to slice data based on user selection, along
    with a sales measure.
Below is example of Slicer name and CubeMember function for each:
    Slicer_Fiscal_Year:
    =CUBEMEMBER("Cube","[Date].[Fiscal Year].&[2015]")
    Slicer_Fiscal_Quarter:
    =CUBEMEMBER("Cube","[Date].[Fiscal Quarter].[All]")
    Slicer_Fiscal_Month:
    =CUBEMEMBER("Cube","[Date].[Fiscal Month].&[201408]")
    Slicer_Fiscal_Week:
    =CUBEMEMBER("Cube","[Date].[Fiscal Week].&[201509]")
    Slicer_Date:
    =CUBEMEMBER("Cube","[Date].[Date].[All]")
    Problem:
What I am trying to do is to build a table with cube functions that takes the lowest grain of the slicer time dimension selected, shows the current member, plus
the prior 7 so I can have an 8 period trending view table that I will build a chart from. In the above example that would mean that it would look at Slicer_Fiscal_Week since that is lowest grain that has an attribute other than All, and then show me the prior
7 periods. In this case 201509 means Week 9, so I would want to show in table Week 9 back to Week 2. But if Slicer_Fiscal_Week was set to All, along with Slicer_Date, then Fiscal Month would be lowest grain, so I would want to show Fiscal Months from August
(201408) back to January 2014. I know how to use CubeRankedMember to pull the value from what is selected in the slicer, the problem is figuring out how to pass the lowest grain time dimension so that I can use lag or some other MDX function to get the previous

  • How to control the height of bars in a bar chart?

I'm making a ton of horizontal bar charts and need the heights to be the same. Clicking the bar chart tool, it asks for dimensions of the chart, but that whacks out the height of bars from chart to chart.
It would also be nice to be able to delete the bottom row of numbers as well...
    Thanks!

We almost had an upgrade to the chart and graph feature, but they pulled the plug and I have not heard anything for two versions now.
I might try again I just had an idea since my original feature request was for print only I think if it were for video, av and web as well it could spark a new interest. There are I am told some software that is dedicated chart and graph making programs with the right kind of features.
There might be a work around, I will check it out.
Thebest I could come up with is to select only the bars then use the Effect>Convert to Shape>Rectangle use relative with the extra width set to "0" andthe height to what ever is required to make your desired width.
then copy the chart and use it like a template then select the bars again and adjust the to match the other chart. but it is not automatic though you can adjust all the bars at one time.

  • SAP BO ,WEBI Charts: Want to display top 10 departments

    Hi Guys.
I am new to webi charts,
In Webi charts, I want to display the top 10 departments who are spending more in printing with amount, if possible year wise.
But the chart which i created it is not looking relevant and very confusing.
And in Legend it is displaying all the departments and that to it is not fitting in one page,
So i am thinking to display only top 10 departments, Can you help me.
    we are using 3 version

You can do this with the Ranking function of Webi.
Select the chart, then select the Rank icon in the toolbar, and add the rank. For example, you'd select the top 10, based on a measure of amount, for the dimension of year.
    Hope that helps.
