Dimensional Reuse and Discoverer

Is there any sample code around anywhere for this? My requirement (a common one, I believe) is to use multiple date roles on top of a single physical calendar. Incidentally, the OWB metadata will end up in Discoverer.
Obviously, that will translate to several dummy tables (one per role). My understanding is that each FK->PK relationship (from multiple facts to a given dimension) is represented by an associated column in the dummy table. So, if I have two fact tables, and each need to relate to the calendar using the same role, that would imply two columns in that dummy table. Is my understanding correct?
On p22-54 of the User Manual, there is a discussion on "use [of] a specific level attribute in a hierarchy", in the section "Defining the Dummy Tables". I cannot fathom why this section is included here. Could you explain how this is related to Dimensional Reuse, please?
The documentation talks about physical names and logical names. Should this now read 'physical names and business names'? Also, I have been using physical naming mode. Do I need to switch to business naming mode, to get things to appear correctly in Discoverer?
Could you tell me, please, is there anything else I should know about dimensional reuse, or about setting things up for Discoverer?

    Hi there,
Have you applied any patches to 9ias since it was first installed? We had the same problem and had to apply a couple of patches to get the portlets working.
    1. Apply the 9.0.2.53.16 one-off patch for Oracle 9iAS Discoverer which takes Discoverer up to 9.0.2.53.16. This patch appears to be password protected and you need to get someone at Oracle support to give you a password.
    2. Apply the Discoverer Portlet Provider: 9.0.2.53.00c patch (patch no. 2595444) which gives you a new discportal.xsl file that actually works. It's this second step that solves your problem but you need to do step 1 before this. This is password protected as well.
    3. As you've upgraded Disco on the server to 9.0.2.53, you'll need to upgrade Disco Admin & Desktop within your 9iDS installation using patch no. 2555265. This is because Disco 9.0.2.53 uses an upgraded EUL that Disco Admin & Desktop need to be patched to use.
This was the course of action Oracle support advised us about nine months ago. Of course they may have released a further patch to Disco that does 1 & 2 in one go, but we regularly carry out steps 1 and 2 on servers we use and we can use the Disco portlets successfully.
    Hope this helps

  • Advantage and disadvantage of xml publisher, report builder and discoverer

    Hi,
anyone can explain advantage and disadvantage of xml publisher, report builder and discoverer?
    thanks in advance!

The best way i found was to put a equals and then double quotes... this only works for excel however it will allow you to cut and paste (ie to use the value to search in Oracle) and also to do vlookups.
    In a bit more detail:
    - I used word to generate my default table
    - this created a field INVOICE_NUM
    - in the cell in the table i put = " before the INVOICE_NUM field and then put the closing " afterwards.
The theory is that excel will concatenate the values together... because it has quotes around it, it will treat it as a string rather than simply a value.
For any other formats this will not work.
I'm guessing most people have moved on and resolved this some other way, but just thought I'd share the wealth!

  • SSO and Discoverer

    Hi,
Please help me in configuring SSO and Discoverer. How can i configure Discoverer so that the SSO user credentials will be propogated to Discoverer?
    Thanks

    Hi
I'm trying to configure SSO with discoverer. I followed several documents like SSO Admin Guide, etc.
When I log onto Discoverer/plus it takes me to the single sign on page, however after I enter SSO username/password - it still takes me to the database name username/password logon screen. It doesn't seam to find the user I set up in the oiddas URL .
There doesn't seam to be much documentation in particular to set up discoverer with SSO, there is a good metalink note 199072.1 which shows how to set it up for Forms.
Did anybody experience similiar problem to me, i.e. keeps on going to logon screen to enter username/password and database name, even after it accepts the SSO username/password.
    Thanks

  • How can I uninstall a damaged installation of Fusion - PFRD 11.1.1.6.0 - Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer

    Hello,
I am upgrading EBS 11i to 12i, Discoverer 4 to 11. After completing ebs installation and upgrade successfully, I am now working on the Oracle Fusion piece of the upgrade.
    I have installed
    1. JDK
    2. Repository Creation Utility - RCU (schema)
    3. Weblogic - WLS 10.3.6
    4. Oracle Fusion - Discoverer 11g Release 1 Patchset 1 11.1.1.2.0 PFRD
    5. Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g Patchset 11.1.1.6.0 - Patchset 13517084
    6. Executed config.sh and it failed with but continued.
During the Configuration of Oracle Fusion with config.sh there was failure at with "fails at creating data sources" and accidentally proceeded and all seem to go well until after shutting down the servers when Weblogic Managed Server is unable to start.
The start log indicated: "weblogic.store.PersistentStoreFatalException: [Store:280105]The persistent file store "_WLS_WLS_DISCO" cannot open file _WLS_WLS_DISCO000000.DAT." and I have been unable to find a solution for this error?
See log file error at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15497130/oracle/ebs11/startManagedWebLogic.sh_nohup.out
If re-installation is my only option, then what are the steps to uninstall, and which components do I have to uninstall given that I had upgraded all the schemas involved?
    Mathias

    Hey,
You can always change the JDBC datasources in the Weblogic admin console . but have you recorded what is the specific error you got during the datasources creation .
I prefer...create a new user , give him sysdba privillages . Start RCU and create the DEV_DISCOVERER , DEV_DISCOVERER_PS schemas (prefix is your choice)
The Admin server will start . so go to admin console .
    click services -> Data Sources
Check the data sources you have . edit each datasource and update the connection pool information .
after this you can start the Managed server WLS_DISCO
i believe this will solve this .........
if you still get issue again . you can try the link Using the WebLogic Persistent Store
    Thanks

  • Install and config issues with Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer

For a while now I've been struggling with migrating a testing database to a newer version.
And right now I'm pretty much stuck at trying to configure Oracle Portal, Forms Reports and Discoverer
    What I've got:
    Windows server 2008 R2 64bit
    Oracle 11g database
    Java 6u27 64bit
JDK 1.6 64bit (using this after 1.7 ended up throwing out bugs while trying to start a weblogic server)
    JDK 1.7 64bit
Weblogic 10.3.5 (or so i think - I've installed from the wls1035_generic.jar from the oracle website)
PFRD 11.1.1.2 with 11.1.1.3 installed over it, installed without config
    and a hanging up configuration
Basically I've been trying to install PFRD (only forms, reports and enterprise manager from it actually) but it kept failing once it got to the configuration stage, so I installed without config, applied 11.1.1.3 and now trying to run the config manually with the good old \bin\config.bat
Result - the config froze for approx.18 hours then failed
There isn't much useful info I could deduct from the logs, mostly just says one or more configuration parts failed. At one place it mentions trying to set up a domain and starting up an adminserver for it - and apparently that's where it hangs up and finally times out and fails.
I'm a little clueless what to do about it as the logs don't say anything else of use I could understand. Any ideas there?

Trying the step by step, the only difference between that and what i do seems to be the file copying (which I can't do - there is no windows\extra\ directory anywhere, the files mentionned seem to already be on their places and either only there, or exactly the same) and clistering
So far the news ain't good - the config process hangs on creating domain ->Step Creating Domain started
It isn't frozen per se - the process doesn't use up any processor time, memory consumption within bounds, it reacts to button clicks and all..it just doesn't do anything concerning the said domain
the last thing the .out file shows:
Creating a new AdminServer Object ...
    AdminServer port is 7002
    Starting the domain ...

  • Error Running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time

    Hello,
We are having trouble running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time on certain user's machines. Here are the specifics:
The user opens Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer. The user then opens Discoverer in another Internet Explorer windows and receives the following error: Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe abnormal program termination
As a work around, I installed Firefox on those user's machines. These users run Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer and run Discoverer in FireFox. This has solved the problem in 99% of the cases. However, there is one user who is having FireFox using Discoverer freeze when running Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer.
Can anyone provide any insight on how I can solve these conflict issues so users can run Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Carlos

    Hi Michael,
I agree with you completely. It is reccommended to run 10g on a separate physical server unless you have sufficient resources to run on the same server (which even most large clients do not) Even then, I would recommend a separate server.
I should have put my comment in context :-)
a.) I was only stating that it was possible
    and
b.) whether 10g is installed on the same physical server or separate should not affect the client browser crashing issue that was posted.
I do have an install with EBS11i and Discoverer 10g on the same physical server and it works fine (this is sandbox/ TEST). Most of my large customers have 10g installed on multiple physical servers due to load balancing (capacity).
I do work for Oracle. I try to help out on the forum when I can, but it is hit or miss :-(
I would be glad to discuss anything privately.
As for the issue at hand, I can reproduce the problem and here is what is occuring.
I have EBS 11i configured with Jiniator 1.3.24
I have Discoverer 10g configured with Sun Java plugin 1.4.2_06
    1. If you launch EBS 11i apps and a form with MS IE, then the browser launches the form using Jiniator JRE 1.3.xx (whatever you have configured in AutoConfig for EBS11i)
    2. Next, the user navigates to EBS 11i SSWA and launches a Discoverer workbook.
What occurs is a child IEXPLORE.exe process is spawned from the parent IEXPLORE.exe process and Discoveer Plus is launched. The parent iexplore.exe process will be attached to the Jiniator JVM. Now if Discoverer is configured with
    a.) Sun Java Plugin or
b.)a version of Jinitiator that is a different version from what EBS 11i is configured with
then you may get this conflict.
It really is an MS IE/JRE conflict with Jinitiator and Sun Java Plugi and the way the broswers attaches to the JVM (IMHO) as this behaviour could be reproduced with other non-oracle java applets.
You can workaround the situation by:
    a. configure EBS11i and Discoverer to use the same version of Jiniator 1.3.xx
    b. educate the users to open one MS IE browser to connect to EBS11i and then open a second MS IE browser to login to EBS11i SSWA or Discoverer 10g Plus directly to launch workbooks. They need to to this by clicking on the icon and not using File >> New browser. Clicking on the icon will spawn a new parent iexplore.exe process that can attach to a second/different JVM. File >> New Window will spawan a child of the parent.
    c. As you did use two browser versions. MS IE for EBS11 connection and FireFox for Disocverer 10g connection.
I would choose optoin b, so that you can use Sun Java Plugin with Discoverer.
Open to any comments. I hope that helps you workaround the problem. The ideal solution is to have EBS 11i use/cerified with the 1.4 or 1.5 JRE. In poking around, I see there is a related post to this on one of Oracle's EBS 11i Product Managers Blog.

  • Portal integration with E-Business and Discoverer 10g

    Hello Everyone,
We have a R12 integrated with SSO/OID. We also have a standalone Oracle BI Discoverer 10g. We want to implement Oracle Portal here. One of the requirements of this project is to have a common home page for both E-Business Suite login as well Discoverer access. Right now E-Business Suite login is seperate and Discoverer home page is seperate (because it comes from a Standalone installation)
    1) What are the benefits of having AS Portal 10g for end users ?
    2) To begin with, we would like to go with the minimum portlets.
    3) Is it possible to have a common home page for both E-Biz access and the Discoverer acess after Portal integration ?
    4) Do you have some screenshots of how things look after Portal integration
    -Thanks
    Srinivas

    Hi,
    take a look in metalink Note:313418.1. :
"Using Discoverer 10.1.2 with Oracle E-Business Suite 11i"
Look in section 6 - post installation.
Follow the steps and have a very good luck.

  • Errors:Installing Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer on Win7

    Someone can help me?
I installed Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer on Win7.
    I have install:
    jdk 64bit
    Oracle db 11g (64bit)
    Oracle Weblogic 1033 (wls1033_generic.jar)
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer (ofm_pfrd_win_11.1.1.2.0_64/ofm_pfrd_win_11.1.1.3.0_64)
Configure Components Screen:I just choose the Oracle Forms/reports Oracle Forms/reports builder Enterprise Manager Oracle Web Cache .
    Configure Ports Screen:Auto Port Configuration.
    Specify Proxy Details Screen:No
    Specify Application OID Screen:NO
But when I configure the "Configuring the Classic Instance" under the "Oracle Classic 11g-Home1". It's always pending in "Creating the domain". No any Error information.
    the related log information:
Creating a new AdminServer Object ...
    AdminServer port is 7001
    Starting the domain ...
    LOADING DLL : C:\Oracle\Middleware\as_2\install\config\\StartUtil64.dll

Since your weblogic is on version 10.3.3, you can only succesfully configure your fusion middleware when you are on version 11.1.1.3.
So (1) restart the install of fusion middleware 11.1.1.2, (2) choose install type INSTALL ONLY, (3) start installation of fusion middleware 11.1.1.3 and finally (4) configure fusion middleware using AS_ORACLE_HOME\bin\config.bat

  • Help in Installing Oracle Portal,Forms,Reports and Discoverer(11.1.1.2.0)

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.2.0) for Linux x86-64.
I have installed weblogic 10.3.5 generic jar file.
When i try to install forms and reports server the configuration step fails while creating weblogic domain.
Please help me installing portal and reports.
Is there any patch i am missing or the weblogic version is incorrect?
    Thanks.

You cannot configure Fmw 11.1.1.2 against WLS 10.3.5. They are not supported nor compatible.
If you want to use WLS 10.3.5, you need to "install" 11.1.1.2, but do not configure. That is an installation option. After you have successfully installed 11.1.1.2 you will need to patch it to 11.1.1.6. After patching, you then can run the configuration (config.bat).

Version 11 is far more complex than previous versions. I strongly encourage everyone to review the product documentation before trying to install. You can also refer to the following MyOracleSupport note:

You said, "...+I would like to install Release 2(11.1.1.2.0)+ ...". Be careful. 11.1.1.2.0 is not Release 2. The version for Rel 2 is 11.1.2.0, notice that there is one less "1". Also, there is no way to patch from Release 1 to Release 2.
In EDelivery, this is what you should find if you search on "Oracle Fusion Middleware" for "Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)":
First look for this link then drill into it:
Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Media Pack for Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)
In this section you will find the following:
This is the full product installation of FMw 11 Release 2 (Forms & Reports)
    Oracle Forms and Reports 11g R2 (11.1.2.0.0) for Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit) V28761-01
This is the full product installation of FMw 11 Release 1 (includes Portal, Forms, Reports, and Disco)
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.2.0) for Microsoft Windows x86 (64-bit) (Part 1 of 4) V18785-01
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.2.0) for Microsoft Windows x86 (64-bit) (Part 2 of 4)
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.2.0) for Microsoft Windows x86 (64-bit) (Part 3 of 4)
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.2.0) for Microsoft Windows x86 (64-bit) (Part 4 of 4)
This is the FMw 11 Release 1 patch set that will bring the above 11.1.1.2.0 installation to 11.1.1.6.  This is NOT a full product installation - just a patch
Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g Patch Set 5 (11.1.1.6.0) for Microsoft Windows x86 (64-bit) V29850-01
There are no patch sets for Release 2 as of yet.

  • Apple Reuse and Recycling Program

I'm not sure where this should live. Its not a question more of a warning.
I recently took advantage of the Apple Reuse and Recycle Program in the UK to recycle three iPhones and obtain some vouchers in return. The Apple Partner for this service in the UK is 'BrightStar'. I used the on-line website and within days the return packs from BrightStar arrived. Enclosed was a flatpack box and a returns label. I packaged up the iPhones as instructed by BrightStar's own documentation, affixed the postage label and took the three packets to the Post Office, to be sure I obtained a 'Certificate of Posting' from the clerk.
Within a couple of days, emails started to arrive saying that the iPhones had been received by BrightStar, however only for two and not three. A day passed and more emails arrived with the Money off Vouchers for the two iPhones but not the third. I left it a day and contacted them via email and received the reply to say that they had not received the third iPhone. Ok.. its got lost.
So I then ask BrightStar, what now happens? Did they have insurance to cover the loss in the postage that they had arranged? No.. they don't pay for any kind of insurance in the postage that they themselves arrange. BrightStar then informed me that it is up to the customer to take out extra insurance or arrange 'Special Delivery' when they take the packages to the Post Office. However, this is not stated in the packaging instructions. So foolishly I have assumed that their pre-paid postage included insurance for the items.
So no iPhone, no voucher . I know its not Apples fault but what really annoys me is the attitude of BrightStar, their Recycling Partner, basically washing their hands of the whole affair, even though they had arranged all of the postage and packaging. Apple really do need to have a word with these people, I expect Apples Partners to be of the same standard as the Apple Organisation.
So people be warned. If you use BrightStar's service make sure you insure your package when you take your pre-paid packet to the Post Office, otherwise if it gets lost, you like me will be out of pocket.
I don't know who to take this up with within Apple, I can find any kind of contact for this kind of issue.

You might try contacting the Customer Support folks and see if they can give you a number for customer relations: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201232
In the US, the user has the option of taking the devices to an Apple store where the transaction is handled by the Apple staff, sounds like a significantly better option.  But, thanks for the warning about buyer-beware - the need to protect yourself anytime a valuable device is sent through the post or any shipping organization.

  • IIS MP - Enabling Rules and Discoveries that are Disabled by Default

    Dears,
In the IIS MP Guide they are asking to Enabling Rules and Discoveries that are Disabled by Default.
    For below:
    DotNetCLRMemoryPercentageOfTimeInGC
    Failed.To.Perform.Initialization.Of.IIS.Discovery.Module
    Failed.To.Perform.Web.Application.Discovery
    Failed.To.Perform.Web.Server.Properties.Discovery
    Failed.To.Perform.Web.Site.Discovery
    FailedToFindApplicationPoolWhileRetrievingState
    FailedToFindSiteWhileAttemptingToRetrieveState
    FailedToPerformApplicationPoolDiscovery
    FailedToPerformFTPServerDiscovery
    FailedToPerformFTPSiteDiscovery
    FailedToPerformIISComponentDiscoveryDueInsufficientPrivs
    FailedToPerformInitializationOfIISStateMonitoringModule
    FailedToRetrieveSiteState
    FailledToRetrieveApplicationPoolState
I was not able to determine where I have to enable, please check snapshot:
Question 1: For this IIS MP Guide, Shall I enable all of what I get in the photo?
and the second doubt is about next snapshot:
Question 2: Where shall I override?
    Thanks

The base class the rule is targetting is "Health Service" (see the "inherited from" column, that lists the class you'll want to override for provided you want to do an override for all the objects the rule is targetting, which is what it
sounds like you want). When you choose "override the rule" for that one it should say "for all objects of class: Health Servcie". Overriding that will override for everything the rule is targetting. You should be able to follow this logic for the rest
    of them as well.

  • 9iAS 1.0.2 and Discoverer 3i with NAT IP translation

We just installed 9iAS 1.0.2 and Discoverer 3i on an NT box. We also use NAT IP Translation at our agency. Everything works fine if we're connecting to the Discoverer server using the local IP, but if we're outside the network, we have to connect using the NAT IP and it fails when trying to get to the User panel.
I was told to upgrade to 9iAS 1.0.2.1. I was wondering if this will resolve the NAT IP translation.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

You're probably not going to be able to use Discoverer 3i as an "extranet" solution. This is due, in part, to Discover 3i's use of the IIOP protocol, which isn't optimized for routing of packets outside of the subnet that your Discover box is located. Under the IIOP connections that Discover 3i employs two (I think) disticnt ports are used (can't rememeber what they are off the top of my head) and then as the session continues, random port connections are established. These random port connections are rarely ever the same and even more are opend for additional user connections. To see what I mean, open a cmd session and do a netstat to see what ports are open. As you use Discoverer 3i, keep doing a netstat...you'll see the ports open and then close as the session continues.
Oracle has since implemented "extranet" functionaltiy in Discover 4i. Other than Discover 4i, you're only other solution is to implement a Terminal (or Citrix server) on the same subnet as your Discover 3i box. you can then implement a "published application" with the client piece and setup appropiate firewall/NAT rules to allow users on other subnets to use the application. If you would like more detailed information, send me an e-mail and I will dig up the research I have already performed concerning this situation.
    Thanks,
    Mike
