Dimensioning tool question

Hello,
I'd like to know if anyone here knows how to change the text color in the dimensioning tool. The default is red on my system but it doesn't print out dark enough to be able to read.

Hi there,
Is it just me, or has the dimension tool dissapeared between versions 7 and 8?
We are in a drafting office and use acrobat for all our drawing checking with the markup & comment tools. Out of all the markup and comment tools we use the dimension tool is the one thing we used the most.
Is there any way to get it back or is it just hidden deep in some menu?
Does my new licenses allow me access to previous versions?

the problem with the measure tool is that i cannot override the text that is put in the dimension line. that's why i was asking for the dimension tool because with that you could input whatever you wanted in the dimension line. maybe there is a toggle somewhere to do this that i cannot find.

Dimension tool plugin necessary for Illustrator ?

Hello,
unfortunatley my company bought CS4, but a few employees also sometimes need to add dimensions to drawings similar like in CAD software for engineer drawings possible.
But it looks like that it is NOT working with Illustrator CS4. (although written in Wikipedia, that illustrator closes gap between CAD and pixel basing software.)
Is there any possibility to install plugin for Illustrator or is Illustrator having such tool ?

I have an AI Javascript that I built for my own convenience, which creates simple linear dimension callouts, as described here.
It is dependendent upon two Graphic Styles and one Paragraph Style which can be added to your documents (or templates) by copying / pasting from the .ai file that is included in the download .zip. However...
It is little unbelievable that Adobe, eliminated dimension tool from Illustrator. Why ?

Whomever wrote that should be horse-whipped. (Or worse, forced to do techish commercial drawing with Illustrator in a roomful of others who are using either Canvas or CorelDraw.) That is probably the worst mis-characterization of what Illustrator is that I have ever heard.

Probably. If dimension tools and a few other very common features necessary for techish illustration are a frequent need, absolutely. Illustrator not only lacks ordinary dimension tools, it also lacks:
Reliable snaps.
User-defined drawing scales.
Connector lines.
Callout objects.
Live shape primitives (rectangles, polygons, ellipses, arcs) with geometric parameters (corner radii, etc.) that can be adjusted after creation.
Proper corner rounding / chamfering commands.
Any feature assist for mechanically corrrect perspective construction.
Is there any other software from adope, which is able to work on .jpg picture and using dimensioning, too ?
JPEG is just a lossy compression format for raster images. I don't know what it, in particular, would have to do with what you have described so far (using a mainstream drawing program to make attractive commercial illustration based on line work exported from CAD software).
But unlike most of its direct competitors these days, Illustrator does not provide any features (other than the ability to apply Photoshop filters) for actually editing raster images. It can import a raster image (JPEG or other) and manipulate it as an object (rotate it, scale it, mask it, etc.). But there are no pixel-editing features.
You have not very well described what your company's needs are. But just given your mention of dimension tools as being important and your need for something to "bridge" between working product drawings and commercial product illustration, I dare say you would be far better off with Canvas, Corel Draw, or Corel Designer.
Unlike its competitors, Illustrator has always treated anything the least bit "techish" as if it's something to fear. It's competitors embrace it as what it is: a huge segment of the overall mainstream commercial illustration world. And it isn't just this seeming "technical" vs. "paper doily" aversion. Much of it is simply the fact that Illustrator has never kept up with its competitors in straighforward, no-nonsense path drawing features. Illustrator has always sat too fat-and-lazy on its Adobe label for market share.
People (including myself) do technical/commercial illustration in Illustrator all the time. Most commerical product illustration is of that nature. But in doing so, they constantly employ tedious, cumbersome, and time-wasteful workarounds for the pathetically weak feature set of Illustrator--or they buy add-ons which cost half what they paid for Illustrator all over again. (I've never understood that mindset. No matter how well-done the plug-in, it's never as cleanly-integrated with the overall program as built-in features; and you have to put up with everything that goes along with mission-critical dependency upon add-ons from small third-party providers.)

Simple Crop tool question... how do I save the crop section?

Hi,
I have a very simple crop tool question. I'm a photoshop girl usually... so Illustrator is new to me. When I select the crop section I want... how do I save it?... if I select another tool in the tool panel, the crop section disappears and I can't get it back when I re-select Crop tool. If I select Save as... it saves the whole document...and not just my crop section.
Like I said, simple question...but I just don't know the secret to the Illustrator crop tool.

Capture with new MBP, plus Pen Tool Question...

Good Day everyone, I've searched the forums but have not been able to find my answer so I thought I'd post.
Question 1...
I've just received my new 17"MBP a few weeks ago. With my old PB, I would connect my camera via FW400 and capture the footage to an external LaCie drive via FW800 out of the computer.
Now with only one FW port on the MBP, it looks as though I need to capture via FW800 (4pin to 9pin) and go out to the LaCie via USB? Is this correct? How are any of you doing this. It bums me out that I can't go out FW800 to the drive. I suppose there is always the option of getting an Express Card 34 with FW800 connections?
Question 2...
Why can I not get my pen tool to work in the timeline? I want to adjust opacity and audio levels but am unable to do this. My old version of FCP (v5) seemed to let me do this. Overlays are 'on'? Any suggestions? I find it easier and faster to be able to do these functions from the timeline, there must be a way?

To be honest, nobody but Apple knows what Apple is thinking but usb is not a good alternative. I also don't know of too many professional post houses or broadcast studios that have anything to do with firewire infrastructure at all. You can get firewire 800 to firewire 400 adapter cables for cheap, search the internet. You can then daisy chain your camera/capture device in line with your storage device.
The better alternative is to get a express firewire card for your MacBook pro as you mentioned which would create two firewire buses; one for capturing, one for storage. I guess I would have thought maybe some research into a product of the expense of the MacBook Pro would have warranted some research about these things.

Pen Tool Question...

The Pen Tool is my favorite / go to selection tool. But can it do the following...
I've made a path and converted it to a selection, then filled the area with a color or texture (on it's own layer).
Now I find that I need to adjust (fine tune) the shape I've created / filled with color or texture to better fit how / where it's being used. Is is possible to invoke the path handles and get it to adjust the filled area as you move / adjust the path. (This is not a shape, not using the shape tool.)
I can select the filled path / layer and free transform but that does not give me a fine enough adjustment.
Puppet Warp doesn't really fit the bill either.
A good example of what I want to achieve is similar to when you put type on a path. When you adjust the path the type moves to conform to the changes in the path. I want to do the same thing with the area I filled using the path.
Possible??
If not, this would be a great feature request!!!

Iweb SEO Tool Question Revised

Sorry I thought I should make this question simpler ...
Something has gone wrong with my iweb SEO tool
and it is messing up all the pages (published to a folder)
that I update with it.
Everything looks fine in the tool - but it does exactly the
same bad thing to every page when I try and use it.
Is there some kind of reset or something that won't lose
all my tags etc? My site is massive and re entering everything
would take a week.

Try creating a new domain file with a test site and see if SEO messes that site up the same way. If it doesn't then there's something awry with your original domain file and website.

SQL Developer tool question

Hi Folks
I am using SQL Developer tool. I have a procedure with compilation errors so i can see that procedure with red X mark in SQL Developer tool.
When am clicking on the procedure it is going to the editor there i can see "code"."grants","dependencies","references","details","profiles".
But i can't able to see "Errors" tab in the editor. And main thing is i didnt see any red lines in the editor for the invalid procedure
And when i recompiled that procedure it got recompiled successfully and that red x mark is vanished.
Here my question is the "Errors" tab is only appears when the procedure/function/package has errors and surprisingly i didnt see any red lines in the editor for invalid procedure (may be my proc has no errors).

maybe your procedure has been invalidated by some DDL, e.g. a new column has been added to a table that is referenced in your procedure. The status will be INVALID until you recompile it or until you call the procedure, then it will be recompiled automatically.
(may be my proc has no errors).Very likely.

Non-Conforming Dimension Model Question 14020

Guys
I have two fact tables combined into a single Logical Fact Table. There is a single conformed dimension for both fact tables, and each fact also has its own non-conformed dimension.
So effectively I have:
D1---<F1>---D2---<F2>---D3
but (F1) and (F2) are combined into single Logical table.
I have set the logical levels for the measures F1 to be Total (D3) and the measures F2 to be Total (D1).
If I select D1, D3 and F1/F2 measures then all works well. If I remove one or both of the measures I then get the dreaded 14020 error. I have tried setting the implicit fact measure for the Presentation Folder but this has no effect.
Is it possible with my current setup to select from the Dimension tables without selecting measures?

OBIEE 11g - Analysis & Administration Tool questions

Dear Experts,
I have two question in OBIEE 11g version 11.1.1.5.0:
1. How can we display timezone in the analysis result, we have formatted the mask "MM_DD_YYYY hh:mm:ss tt z" but the "z" does not apply, it display character "z" in our result.
2. Can we create Hierarchy Dimension from one more tables ? Example that we have TimeDimension and LocationDimension, we want to create only on Hierarchy Dimension included two both Time and Location dimension.

Basic Quick Selection Tool Question

Is this just a newer way to do the same thing the other selections tools have been doing for years OR is there a benefit to this tool over the other selection tools?

The Quick Selection Tool does indeed operate differently from the Magic Wand Tool.
But it’s been introduced at least with CS3, so why the question now?

Magnetic Lasso Tool Question/Suggestion

I've been suing the magnetic lasso tool to make a selection of a group of people; there is a lot of going between legs and over heads, etc. But invariably when I get about half way through the selection the magnetic lasson tool acts as if I've completed the selection, i.e. I tap the image and the point of the last tap suddenly is connected with my point of origin. I have done this several times, making sure that I didn't tap too hard or anything like that, but that seems not to be the problem (I'm using CS6/Mac 10.6.8, for what it's worth).
So, my question is: is there a way to erase part of the selection? I know about the add to/subtract from the selection; but that's not getting me back to where I need. For example, the line that cuts through my group, the line going from my end point to point of origin, well, if I can delete that line and continue on from the end point that might resolve this problem.
Any assistance/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

You could simply reach the limit of allowed points in a path. You will have to use multiple passes/ segemnts. I don't see why this should be a problem. Selections are selections. The path is merely a temporary representation of the selection border, the actual selection is pixel based, no matter what. Maybe look up a tutorial on how to work with saved selections/ channels? Just saying... Seems to me like you're trying to outsmart the program and doing everything in one go, which arely ever works...

Dimension design question

Hello,
I am new to Dimensional modeling. I have a requirement where I need to create a TIme dimensional with following attibutes
time_id,system_date, Hours,week_end_indicator,hliday_ind and some more. This dimension was created because of the fact that I am receiving a count file of roadway traffic which hold count for every hours. There is new requirement that some file will have a count after every 5 minutes . My question is how I am going to accomodate this new functionality with the current TIME dimension because there is no column with Time . Should I create a new column in the TIME dimensio or create another Dimension.

You should first declare the grain of the fact table "http://www.rkimball.com/html/designtips/2001/designtip21.html". You do this by understanding the queries that your users will run against the fact table. Although this sounds obvious it deserves considerable thought and you should determine the technical implications of these queries exactly. Once you understand the demands that the queries will place on the data you should find a way to accomodate the lower grain in either the fact or the dimension. Note that the dimension is not the only place where you keep non additive attributes. This case is an example of instances where a non additive attribute (a date-time stamp) could be carried on the fact.
The new file will contain data which is of a lower grain than the previous one (minutes versus hour). For this reason you should create a new fact which is at the lower grain - not a new dimension. You can still use the previous "hour" fact as a summary fact. If you aggregate the new fact to vehicles per hour and update the old fact each time you get new data you won't have to change applications that work off the old fact. You should decide whether you would like to lower the grain by adding an attribute to the dimension or whether you would like to keep a date-time attribute on the fact to keep the cardinality of the dimension low.
I would venture to say that you will probably have to keep at least one date-time stamp or else two such attributes to cater for a start and end time on the fact. Once again it depends on the type of queries your users will run.
For this purpose I suggest that you read "http://www.rkimball.com/html/designtips/2001/designtip29.html" as well as "http://www.intelligententerprise.com/020613/510warehouse1_1.shtml". Kimball has written some other articles specifically on using date-time stamps in the fact. You could also visit "www.intelligententerprise.com" and search under Data Warehousing for more information. Data Utilization Tool Question

Does any one know what is the 'Technology' sub-category in the Web & Apps category of the new Data Utilization Tool?
On my account, there is one line's usage that is comprised of 30% Technology and Verizon as thus far been unable to be specific about what this means. Because we have seen a tremendous spike in data usage, I'd like to know what function/program to turn off to avoid the excessive data usage, but no one can tell me what that would be. Anyone??

Measuring tool question

Hello,
A lawyer at my firm inquired about how to measure something in a document and I found the measuring tool. I just wanted to confirm a couple things with it.
1) Scale ratio. If I set it to 1mm = 1mm, that measurement I create is going to be the true measurement of the space from point a to point b?
2) Is the measurement created the actual size of the measurement in relation to its printed size? I'm assuming yes, but I've been asked to confirm this just for a sanity check as the consequences for an inaccurate measurement are fairly significant for us.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't see an option in Acrobat to change the printing scale without actually being in the print menu, so I don't think the measuring tool is looking at the size relative to anything, and is just basing it on the actual dimensions of the document in its properties. I was just hoping someone could confirm that.
