Dimensions: Key and Description by default

Hi All,
is there any chance to have Kex and Description of selected dimensions by default ... even in new reports?
After changing this in the Query Designer for selected InfoObjects this isn't recognized by SPM. Every Dimension has Only Description by default.
Thanks
Pascal

Hi Pascal,
I don't think there is any setting to display the Key and Description by default on new report creation.
But, when a report is created and saved setting to display the Key and Description, it will do so when the report is opened later.
Note: such changes to display in the back-end or query will not affect the display in SPM frontend.

  • BPC 75 NW - BPF driver dimension key and description in Data region

    Hello All,
In our BPF templates we have used Costctr as our driver dimenion. When we go to My activities to view BPF instances- we only see the Costctr Description in the data region which is the default.  In our example- we have muliple cost centers globally with the same description.. so having the key displayed in the step region is critical. Is there a way to specify the key as well?
We are on BPC 75 NW SP07 patch 3.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Shai

    Hi,
"Inherit from Data Region" means - when you open the BPF, you need to specify members for few of the dimensions. These members can be used by specifying "inherit from data region".
For example, if, while opening the BPF, you enter USA for Entity and 2009.Total for Time. If "inherit from data region" is specified for entity dimension, then it will take USA, irrespective of the current view and the fact that the user is owner of some other dimension.
In this case, either you can take it from CV or you can specify the member explicitly while designing the BPF. However, it will not serve your purpose.
When you acces read access to the user for some entity, the user can still view the data. However, he wont be able to send data. So, restricting the view access is not possible in this case.
    Hoep this helps.

  • Dimension in WebI query filter needs to show Key and Description

    Hi,
We have two requirements that we can't get them done:
    1. We are building webi report based on Bex universes and we need to show the key and description of an object in the query filter of the report. Does this have to be set in the Bex variable or in the universe?
    2. filter the LOV related to a specific dimension that is used in the query filter as prompt. The idea is to show a filtered list in the promp LOV of the dimension used in the query filter of the report. Does this have to be set in the Bex query or in the universe? If it is in the Bex Query, where exactly?
    Our system is the following:
    - BOE XI 3.1 SP2
    - SAP NW 4.0
I await your answers. Thanks in advance.

    >> you can easily achieve that by creating a variable in the BEX query - that will return as a LoV with key and description assuming you have key and description in BW for the InfoObject.

  • How to show display attributes like key and description in voyager

This question is on voyager connecting to SAP BI Query. I would like to show both key and description of the row member. It is mentioned in the guide that display attributes can be viewed and changed from the properties tab of the tab panel. But I didnt see any such option in properties tab.
    Any solution for this?
    Thanks
    Raghu

It is a XI 3.0 version. I looked at Voyager user guide for XI 3.0 in page no 202. It is about Using Voyager with SAP
    "Display attributes
Members have several string properties which are visible in Voyager:
    u2022 Key
    u2022 Short description
    u2022 Medium description
    u2022 Long description
    u2022 Key and short description
    u2022 Key and medium description
    u2022 Key and long description
These string properties can be viewed and changed from the Properties tab
    of the Tab panel.
Note: Key and text properties are concatenated into a single string, and are
therefore displayed in a single column or row caption field. They do not
appear as separate columns or rows."
    Thank you very much.

  • Need help for displaying key and description in Dropdown (ABAP WEBDYNPRO)

    Hi Experts,
I am using dropdown as a table field. For this dropdown I want to display the value as well as description.
In ALV table when we create a dropdown dynamically in table field, there is a method SET_KEY_VISIBLE in class CL_SALV_WD_UIE_DROPDOWN_BY_KEY.
But I think we cannot use similar method for normal dropdown field in table.
Is there any way we can display both value and description in dropdown value set ?
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Anand

    Hi,
I think there is no such option. You need to consider one variable type string and while populating the
valueset fill this variable by concatenating the value and description and assign it the key and value
    pair of the valueset.
    DATA:
      lt_value_set_ctry      type table of wdr_context_attr_value, " Country/Service Location
      lv_str type string.
        loop at lit_country into ls_country.
concatenate ls_country-value ls_country-text into lv_str separated by space.
          ls_value_set-value = lv_str.
          ls_value_set-text  = lv_str.
          append  ls_value_set to lt_value_set_ctry.
          clear ls_value_set.
        endloop.
          lr_node_info->set_attribute_value_set( name = 'COUNTRY'
                     value_set = lt_value_set_ctry ).
Consider this lit_country is a text table for countries.

  • Workbook: view key and description in the same cell.

    Hi Developers,
I'd to Know if it is possible to see (in the workbook) in the same excel's cell the Key and the denomination and not in two different cells.
    Thanks in Advance!
    Domenico

    Hi Domenico,
let's suppose you have an InfoObject (ZIOBJ) with short medium and long descriptions and that you do feed such values using a DataSource for texts. In the Trasfer Rule you map ZIOBJ 0TXTSH, 0 TXTMD and 0TXTLG to 4 different fields ZVALUE, TXT_SH, TXT_MD and TXT_LG of a Transfer Structure.
You could write a simple ABAP Routine for the 0TXTLG as:
CONCATENATE ZVALUE, TXT_MD SEPARATED BY SPACE INTO RESULT.
    Hope it's clear.

  • Report painter, lead column doesn't display the key, only description is di

    Hi Gurus,
I am facing a problem as the report painter report only shows the description for the objnr (charasterstic) and not the key and description thoughin the format key and description is set. Kindly suggest me the how to overcome this problem.
    Example of the problem-
The problem is that the report displays the descriptions (like u201CRéseauAiru201D on the first line) and not the code (E100/002831/EP-AIR) that we wish in the lead clolumn.

    Hi
Once you execute the report and the output is displayed....
Go to Settings > Char Display > Choose "Key and Description"
Then Choose menu Report > Save Definition

  • Dimnesion Key and SID

    Hi Friends,
I have a cube, in which there are about 7 dimensions(excluding system generated dimensions). When i check the Fact table in the selection screen of the fact table i can see only 5 dimension keys and 5 SIDs (of the 5 dimenion keys 3 of them are for T/U/P) .
When i check the contectnt of the fact table it shows 5 dimens and 5 SIDs.
My question is why is it showing only 5 Dimension keys not 7? can someone please throw some pointers on this?.

    Hi Friends,

  • Object synthax (name and description)

Regardless of the display settings of an infoobject in BW (key, description, key and description) I'd like to build my own in BO, I see that it's possible and sometime advised to change the synthax from
    [Z_CUSTOM].[LEVEL01].[[2Z_CUSTOM]].[Value]
    to
    [Z_CUSTOM].[LEVEL01].[NAME]
    or
    [Z_CUSTOM].[LEVEL01].[DESCRIPTION]
What I'd like to get is
    [NAME and DESCRIPTION]
    or
    [NAME]||[DESCRIPTION]
    (a concatenation of the two).
Is this even possible? Could you please suggest the correct synthax?
    Thanks

SAP BW MDX currently does not support concatenation operators for strings. Still you can concatenate the name and the description at report level.

  • Loading key and/or description from BW into BPC

    Dear all,
We have the requirement to load master data from BW into BPC 10 NW (SP4) and are facing some difficulties.
Depending on the property, we want to do the following:
    - Load the attribute key into BPC property
    - Load the attribute description into BPC property
    - Load both concatenated using an underscore into BPC property
The loading process as such works and the concatenation would aswell, but so far I'm only able to load the keys into BPC. In the BW table I can see that the attribute has both a key and a description but I don't know how to select the description in BPC (either through transformation file, set selection, ...). Is there a standard functionality to select between a key and a description in BPC 10 or do I have to ask the BW-team to make an additional attribute with the description as a key?
Same goes for loading the member ID's and member descriptions for a specific dimension. There we want to fill the member ID in BPC with the BW description and use another BW description to fill the member description in BPC.
Any advice/input would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Matthias

    Hi Matthias,
I have the same problem and I don't know how to solve it.
While loading master data into BPC InfoObjects (or as called in BPC jargon "Dimensions") I found out, that it is possible to load the Attribute ID's relatetd to the InfoObject, while it is not possible to load the corresponding descriptions.
Actually I cant help you with my post. But atrouble shared is a trouble halfed
I would be pleased if somebody could offer any solution to this problem
    Kind Regards,

  • About Surrogate Key and Dimension Key on OWB 10.2

    Hi, everyone.
I am using OWB 10.2 and I have a question about Surrogate key and Dimension Key.
I indicated the foreign key as VARCHAR2 type in Fact Table and Dimension Key as VARCHAR2 type is operated as Primary key in Dimension Table. I made Single Level in Dimension Table.
I know that Dimension Key stores the surrogate ID for dimension and is the primary key of the table. Also, Surrogate ID should be only NUMBER type.
So, in this case, Surrogate ID is NUMBER type
Dimension key should be NUMBER type to store the surrogate ID.
But, Dimension key also should operate the primary to relate Foreign key as VARCHAR2 type.
How I can solve this confusing condition?
    Please let me know that.
    JWS

    Hi JWS,
From a SQL point of view it should not be a problem to join a NUMBER field to a VARCHAR2 field because during execution there will be an implicite cast for the NUMBER value to a VARCHAR2 value. See the example below.
       SELECT * FROM DUAL
WHERE   1 = '1'From an OWB point of view it is not possible to have a Dimension with an NUMBER value Key that has a relation to a VARCHAR2 value Foreign key in a Fact table. This is caused due to the creation of a Fact table in OWB in which the Foreign keys in it are build from de Dimension tables that refer to them.
You will loose the reference to the Dimension when changing the type of the Foreign Key.
To resolve this issue I would advise you to use a Sequence that generates your Surrogate Key (NUMBER type) for the Dimension table and store it in the Primary Key Column (VARCHAR2 type).
When validating the mapping you will get a warning, but when executing this should give no problems.

  • Difference between Dimension Id and Dimension Key

I am reading the third chapter of Rittman's OBIEE book on design of Repository.
It says while building the BMM, don't drag the dimension Id columns from physical layer to logical layer as the BI Server takes care of the join for you but make sure you drag across the dimension key columns as you will need these later on to create your logical table keys.
Can someone enlighten me on what is the difference between a dimension id and dimension key (may be with an example).
    Thanks.

Besides the theory says that a fact table can reference any level of a dimension, I couldn't do it with OWB. I don't know if there is a specific way to do that, but I only could assign a dimension detail level to a fact table.
The ID's can have different values when I use a hierarchy in a dimension. OWB generates automatically negative ID's for the more summarized levels.
For example, a product dimension with 2 levels: category and detail. If the product has 4 categories and 20 products (detail level), the table has 4 rows for categories with negative id's. Each row has a category and the fields specific for detail level are empty. The table will have other 20 rows for the detail level, with all fields filled, and all id's positive. The table will have 24 rows in the end.
