  • Size of dimention table  fact table ratio  question..

    Hey Guys !!!
I have  very basic question regarding the ratio of size of dimention table and fact table..
its mentioned that the ratio of dim table / fact table  sizes should not be greater than 1:20 for performance reasons .. thats OK..
now lets say if i have fact table with customer dim_id ,some other dimention ids , and revenue (KF) .. with 1 million records ..
so ideally my customer dimention table should not have more than  200,000 recods (.ie 200,000 different customers ).
doesnt this put limitation on number of customers in a cube ?
if so, how do we handle this ?
please correct me if i am wrong  in interpreting the concept of dimension table.
    thanks in advance

    Hi ASRao ,
    thanks  for replying ...
you said exactlly what i know  ..
sorry i didnt put my question in correct prespective ...
    whay i meant was...
lets say  , i need to have more than specified (1:20 ) number records in dimension table ,it will definately hamper my reporting performance ...
so, is there any solution to handle this kind of problem ?
like how would i maintain my efficiency of reporting in this case ?
    thanks in advance

  • Ratio between Fact table and Dimention table for a Infocube

    Hi All,
How can we reduce the Ratio between Fact table and Dimention table for a Infocube below 20%.??
    please give suggestions

    Hi
    Reduce Ratio??
The Ratios are dependent on the Fact Table, and the Dimension table that is modeled for your Cube.
You cannot change ratio individually, but can set the Line Item Dimension , provided you have only one char object is taking much space and bulky with much percentage, based on your requirement. You can always use fine tuning objects.
Please be more specific while posting, to get right help from sdn.
    Hope it helps

  • Primary key in fact/Dimention/SID table?

    Hello sap gurus,
    2 Questions....
    Which is primary key in
-Fact table (probably answer is .... combination of DIM_ID keys)
-Dimention table ( probably answer is .... DIM_ID key)
-SID table ( probably answer is .... SID_ID key)
    Thnx in advance

    Gaurav,
You already have the answers. A very simple way to figure out the keys is to use the transaction LISTSCHEMA, it will list the tables in an Infocube. Once you have the tables , you can use se11/se12 to check the keys.

  • What is FACT table and FLAT table?

    Hello,
Kindly tell me what is mean by FACT table and FLAT table and how it is use in the BI system ?also tell me can i see these table in the system ?if yes then please tell me the procedure to see the content of the FACT and FLAT table.   And also tell me about the SID table and how to see it.

Cube consists of Fact tables and Dimension tables.
The structure of these tables are "Flat".
Cube consists of two factables... 'F' - Fact table and 'E' - Fact table.
    The naming convention will be..
    /BIC/F<..Cube name..>   for F Fact table
    /BIC/E<..Cube name..>   for E Fact table
Eg: for cube "EMPLOYEE" the names are..
    /BIC/FEMPLOYEE
    /BIC/EEMPLOYEE
The dimention tables have naming convention..
    /BIC/D....
You can check these tables in SE11 or you can use the transaction LISTSCHEMA and then provide the Cube name.
SID's tables are used to link the master data with the dimention tables.

  • Dimension table and fact table exists data physically

    Hi experts,
can anyone plz tell me weather dimension table and fact table exists data physically or not/

    Hi..Sudheer
SAPu2019s BW is based on "Enhanced Star schema" or "Info Cubes" database design. This database design has a central database table, known as u2018Fact Tableu2019 which is surrounded by associated dimension tables.
Fact table is surrounded by dimensional tables. Fact table is usually very large, that means it contains
    millions to billions of records.
These dimension tables doesn't contain data  it contain references to the pointer tables that point to the master data tables which in turn contain Master data objects such as customer, material and destination country stored in BW as Info objects. An InfoObjects can contain single field definitions such as transaction data or complex Customer Master Data that hold attributes, hierarchy and customer texts that are stored in their own tables.
SID is surrogate ID generated by the system. The SID tables are created when we create a master data IO. In SAP BW star schema, the distinction is made between two self contained areas: Infocube & master data tables/SID tables.
The master data doesn't reside in the satr schema but resides in separate tables which are shared across all the star schemas in SAP BW. A numer ID is generated which connects the dimension tables of the infocube to that of the master data tables.
The dimension tables contain the dim ID and SID of a particular IO. Using this SID the attributes and texts of an master data Io is accessed.
The SID table is connected to the associated master data tables via teh char key.
    Fact table(Transaction data,DIM ID)<>Dimention Table(SID and Dim ID)<->Masterdata table(SID,IO)
    Thanks,
    Abha

  • Query data being picked from which data targets and dimension tables.

    Hi Guys,
I need help from you people.
My query is "If we execute any query, i want to know from which data targets and from which dimension tables data being read in the run time", is there any program or any table to find this data.
    thanks in advacne.
    Regards
    Prasad

    Hi Prasad,
We will get Data target information in query level in information TAB.
If you want get dimension tables information also you need use technical business content(bwstatistics) Cubes and need to customize the required information. I think standard statisics cubes is not provide dimention tables information. Need to customize that.
Hope it will help for you.
    Thanks,

  • Dimention Error

[39008] Logical dimention table UBID_CHARGE has a source UBID_CHARGE that does not join to any fact source
UBID_CHARGE join to other Dimention source table, Its ER model subject area, not in dimention model.
Even though UBID_CHARGE is dimention table by itself, it has to directlu join fact for Dimention Hierchy?

That means that your dimension table is not joined to any fact table, or the level at which the dimension table is joined to the fact table is missing. Check the content tab on the Fact table.

  • Modeling: how to place Material Grp in Material Master TABLE instead of DIM

    Hi,
I just completed a review of the "...Modeling with BI" document and I will appreciate some clarification on the following:
Some key points leading to question:
--"..In order to cover all requirements, master tables in a BI Data model are NOT linked directly to cube .."
e.g. While Material Number is in the Material Dimension; Material Type and Material Group are outside the Star Schema (page 14) i.e. in the Material Master, Material Text, Material Hierarchy TABLES.
--".. translation tables called SID tables are used in the BI data model to link the master tables of the BI data model to cubes" (page 16)
--So, the discussion goes on to point to the different LOCATIONS that a dependent attribute (which are not in 1:N relationships) of a characteristic such as Material Group may be located:
    in the
    i) Material Dimension table or
    ii) Material Master table or
    iii) Material Hierarchy table or
    iv) combination of i/ii/iii
    My question:
When building a cube, I know how to add Material Group to the same dimension as in case of i.
How do I add Material Group in the cube, in such as way that it is ii?
If I created a separated InfoObject, Material Group, it will not meet ii, since it will not be part of the Cube in question.
Can you help me with how to make the LOCATION for Material Group as ii and iii in this example?
i.e. to make Material Group as part of the model but not added to the Material Dimention table but to "Material Master table"
i.e. I am trying to get this line well:
--".. translation tables called SID tables are used in the BI data model to link the master tables of the BI data model to cubes"
    Thanks

    Hi Amanda.........
I am not getting ur question properly...........but I will try to explain u .......
translation tables called SID tables are used in the BI data model to link the master tables of the BI data model to cubes.......
Do u know.........what is Extended star schema.............it is a purely that concept..........
Look.......Infocube will never store Master data...........Master data will be stored in Infoobject...............
Now look...........if u make a Infoobject Master data enable.........then it will be connected to  Four Master data table.......
    Attribute Table
    Text Table
    SID table
    Hierarchy table.........
    Different Master tables are........
/BIC/M -- View of Master data Tables
/BIC/P -- Master data Table, Time Independent attributes
/BIC/Q -- Master data Table, Time Dependent attributes
/BIC/X -- SID Table, Time Independent
/BIC/Y -- SID Tabel, Time Dependent
    /BIC/T -- Text Table
    /BIC/H -- Heirarchy Table
    /BIC/K -- Heirarchy SID Table
When u r creating the Infoobject........in the Masterdata/text tab...........if u check the box With Master data.........the characteristic may have attributes........... In this case the system generates a P table for this characteristic.............. This table contains the key of the characteristic and any attributes that might exist.........
Again if u check the With Text...........then it will hav text table..............
For Hierarchy in the Hierarchy tab page..u hav to select with hierarchy.................
Now while activating the Master data SID gets generated..........this is stored in SID table.........SID table contains the Key field of the Attribute table and SID............suppose material...........then SID table will contain Material number and SID value........
Now the DIM table of an infocube contains..........SID and DIM.............so DIM tables r connected to the Master data table with this SID.......Again in turn SID tables are conneected to the Master data table.........
So cube will access this Master data table with the help of SID..........ie.......ID tables are used in the BI data model to link the master tables of the BI data model to cubes
    Check this.........

  • Dim Table size

    HI ALL
How can one measure the size of the dim table in relation to the fact table
    Thanks
    Varma

    Rajesh,
note down the technical name of the Dimention table, go to SE11, provide the tables name, press F7, press CTRLSHIFTF11(contents)--> on the selection screen you could see No. of entries push button on the application tool bar.
    All the best.

  • About lineitem dimention

    hi gurus
we make any dimention as line item dimention when the size of the dimention table becomes greater than or equal to 20% of the size of the fact table o.k.,where we check the condition? is there any specific program for it , if so what is the name of it?
    thanks & regards

    Hi Sanath,
    Refer this thread too

  • Help needed in JTables

    Hello,
Can any one help me in a small question.
I use JTable to display some values it is a two dimentional table.
Now can any one tell me how to put an icon in to a particular cell of the table
    it may be and cell.
    Best Regards,
    Sreedhar

You can use a custom TableCellRenderer to do this. There are good examples of doing this in the JTable lessons in the turorial on this site. To put icons in particular cells you need to define the conditions where a icon should be displayed and then code that logic into your renderer.
After you have read the tutorial and started on your own renderer post specific questions.
    Cheers

  • Use of Dimensions in APO DP Planning Object Structures

In APO DP Planning Objct Structures, I know that it's possible to assign Dimensions to characteristics.
The standard help documentation suggests this is 'to improve performance'.
Can anyone give practical guidance about how to assign Dimensions to improve performance?
    Thanks,
    Bob Austin

the characterisitcs are grouped logically using the Dimensions
the use of dimensions allows data to be stored in a combination of dimension tables and fact tables
the dimention table consists of the dimension number, a primary key characteristics you assign to the dimension
the primary keys from various dimension tables link up at the fact table and to the values stored in it
so you can think of a star schema of tables with the dimension acting as the link
so when you look for a particular value the dimension table is first quesried based on which the fact table the primary key is linked to is looked up
in order to improve performance, make sure you dont assign too many characterisitics to one dimension
try to logically group the characterisitics - geography for eg can be made of state, region (not material type)
you can also try to match the dimension with the selections you will be using in the planning book,
dimension tables could grow as your characteristic values increase so SAP advices you keep an eye on it (i am not sure of how functionally you can help this but i believe basis will be able to help you with allocating space on an oversized table)
there is a document somewhere in sap marketplace that i am not able to find a link... hopefully someone will link it up here

  • SCD type 2 using merge

    Hi ,
I'm trying to impliment SCD type 2 using Merge but unlike typical Merge where you have target and source table,  my Inserts come from one table and updates/changes are determined from another table.. I have issue with updates.
below is structure of three tables :
    Dimension Table :
     VQ_id, VQ_name,
    contact_type, center_node_id,
    sed_id, eed_id,
    IsCurrent, insert_date
VQ_Id is dimension ID based on which Inserts and undates are determined.
    VQ_Name : type 1 change
    Contact_type , Center_node_ID : type 2 changes
    is Current : flag
sed_id , eed_id are start and end effective date ID's
    Insert table :
    VQ_id,VQ_Name ,Contact_Type , Center_node_ID , Sed_id , eed_id , Insert_date
from the above table, based on VQ_ID , new records are determined .
    Updates/history records :
Type 2 changes are tracked based on below table..
    VQ_ID, contact_type,
    center_node_id, Start_Effective_Date,
    CT_ID, Submit_Date
    Based on VQ_ID ,  contact_type, center_node_id,
Start_Effective_Date , end effective date are determined.
Any help in this regard is appreciated...
    Thanks ,
    Vishal.

  • How to delete PSE(personal secure envirounment) in BI 7.0

    Hi all,
I have a query regarding PSE in BI 7.0.
I want to export and import the portal certificate from BW syatems in to BI 7.0 portal. But when i am going in Tcode STRUSTSSO2 it is asking me " System PSE password"
But currently we don have this.
IS system PSE password is necessary for import and export of the certificate..? can we reset this password..?
Pls reply if u can help out...
Also i am getting JCO connection failed in test connection from portal while got the test connection ok for ITS.

When you right click infocube in RSA1 screen there is a option called Delete data, after u choose this option you will be asked again to delete from dimention table. As you know star schema concept of Info cube. Fact table has all the Key figures and Dim table has all the Char. If you want to delete only KF then select no to Delete data from Dim table, If you want to delete both KF and Char then select Yes for Delete Dim data. OR you can go to Manage infocube screen to delete data based on Request ID #,
