Dimming past OS X minimum - will it damage the screen?

I've noticed a lot of people asking the question "Is it possible to dim an iMac's display past the OS X minimum?" The answer to that question is Yes - you can use a freeware app called Shades for example.
My question is - could this potentially damage the display? I've read that providing the LCD backlight with too little power can damage it.

Shades does not lower the backlight, it works by obscuring your screen with an overlay.

You can't use the ones from your old Palm device, but there are a variety of capacitive styla available for use with iPads (and other things with capacitive touch displays). Personally, I like the BoxWave, though it's a little on the short side -- the nib is great, though. The Acase ones aren't bad either. There's a company called CCM that makes some very inexpensive ones that are very similar to the BoxWave ones -- but they come in a 3 pack and you don't get nearly as upset with yourself when you lose one.

Will bright light (camera flashlight) damage the screen?

I opened the flashlight application in my mobile phone which utilizes the in-built camera flash. It's pretty bright and I've used it to take a look at my MBPr's screen up close. I put the computer in sleep mode and flashed the light directly at certain areas on my screen.
I'm curious though. Will this damage my screen? I didn't notice any change afterwards (I used the flashlight for about 5 - 8 minutes).

He simply used the camera flash as as a flashlight (hence the "Flashlight" term/app).

Will it damage the battery in my iPhone if I leave the phone sat in the dock charging all day (every day) at work even if it doesn't need charging?
I am a bit paranoid about trying to get the best life out of the battery and wondered if I should be letting it run flat every time to get maximum charge....if that makes any sense?

No, the iPhone has a chipset in there to prevent those stupid moves. When your iPhone is fully charged, it automatically draws power from your dock instead, so your battery is not being used if it's 100%
You should maintain a balance between fully discharge and fully charge your battery to get the best lifetime. For example don't fully discharge it everyday, but may be once or twice per month or 2 months. If you keep your battery 100% all the time, that's not good either.

Usually restarting (by holding the power button to turn it off) works. A few times that has resulted in the three beeps (RAM issue? -- I've since replaced my RAM [it *seemed* to stop it for a while, but maybe not]), but the second time it always works. Attempting to SSH into the computer during this state does not work. Please advise as to what to do/what reports I can run and post. I will take a pic next time it happens.

Sounds like a problem with your GPU. Do you have an external display you could connect your machine to in order to test this? If the external display renders the same way, then your GPU is damaged. If the external renders fine, then the CPU display is damaged.

Apple does not repair iPads. They will issue a replacement. But a screen does not break on its own. If you caused the damage to the device, you will have to pay for a replacement

I leave it charging until it gets back to full, usually it turns on after a little bit of time after plugging it in, but all its doing is going to the apple logo screen and going blank again.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
      left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
      the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
      the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
           because it is three times faster than wireless.

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off button at the same time for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. Release both buttons and await restart.

Why would Apple replace or repair the phone for free? Will a car manufacturer replace or repair the car you drove into a wall for free? If you sit on your spectacles, will the optician give you another pair for free?
You can get an out of warranty replacement phone for $199 in the US, similar price in your local currency.

Yes, it will fill up the screen. You can still play the original angry birds on the iPad, and even zoom it to fill the screen. It'll just be a little pixelated is all. Not quite as crisp.
Also, you will start all over. If you were on level 36, you'll start from scratch.
Just about all iPhone games are playable on the iPad, they just may not look as nice when you zoom them up.
