Dir 10 projector - sudden errors on MacBook Pro

Yesterday a coupe of users had script errors after installing
an interactive on both a MacBook and MacBookPro, when starting an
application that I've been distributing for several years now. It
is a 10.1.1 projector (all the latest updates), using a quick start
stub movie. All Xtras are distributed inside my installer and
placed in an appropriate Xtras folder. I've probably had over a
1000 Mac users install various versions successfully over the last
few years, and then every student runs the application for an hour
a week over the academic year. It's been running successfully on
all flavors of Mac machines - G4, G5 and Intel boxes.
After the reports of problems came in, today I began
retesting this year's installer (which had all worked great on 7 or
8 test Macs) to try to track down the sudden problem. Had no errors
on a G4 iBook, a G5 iMac, or my Quad-core Mac Pro. But sure enough,
I also got a script error on my MacBook Pro that I had not seen
before! And to complicate matters even more, a second program (that
uses an identical configuration) that was installed successfully on
my MBP in July now also gives the same script error at startup.
Note that this laptop is not my main machine, and sees light use
these days.
After extensive testing (at first thinking this might be an
issue with my new installer), I noticed that a tiny dialogue box
appeared on the screen for a split second, then disappeared. A
portion of my projector (1024 x 768) then appeared within the same
dimensions as that dialogue, then the script error came up. I used
a screen capture program to record the sequence at 30 fps, and
after a couple of tries was able to get the following screen shot:
http://www.aufgehts.com/images/AG_SW_error.jpg
I am completely puzzled because there is no need to download
Xtras - after 8 hours of investigation I still have no idea what's
going on. Both my MBP and MP have 10.5.4 with all the latest
updates, and another team member with a MBP and 10.5.4 is able to
run the program successfully. I've tried resetting Permissions for
the application's folder, but with no success.
The Projector has no need to download any Xtras (this option
is NOT turned on in my projector / Xtra settings window). I thought
it might be a problem with a Shockwave 11 player so I uninstalled
just in case. Further, we tested the MBP that has no errors by
uninstalled Shockwave 10 and installing SW 11, and this other MBP
had no problem. The projector is a normal one that doesn't need to
download a SW player (plus it is set to run with SW 10), so it
should just start up with Rosetta, look for the Xtras folder, and
run as normal.
Anyone had similar issues or have a guess as to what might be
going on? All ideas will be appreciated!

I'm using the latest version of Firestorm (from Vise),
created on my MacPro with 10.5. At first I assumed it was my
installer, but the problem persists even if I manually install my
uncompressed gold master files via my internal network. Further,
all my old, previously installed and working versions of various
Director 10 project run-time applications are now "broken" on this
one MBP.
Like you, my best guess is that it is a permissions issue. My
theory is that all Xtra folders have now somehow become locked and
the projector can not access them (this would explain the errors on
the exisitng programs). Tried numerous solutions to this therory:
resetting permissions in the app folder so all users have
Read/Write access to all enclosed folders, repairing permissions in
Disk Utilties, etc. The fact that this only appears to occur on the
MacBook Pro and MacBook (so far) makes me wonder if there is some
conflict with the Intel laptops. Or it could just be coincidence
due to the majority of my users' (students) having laptops ...
Any ideas will be entertained ... Is it possible to get more
effective permissions repairs via terminal (which I am not too
familiar with)?

  • External VGA Projector Screen Blue when MacBook Pro Connected

I love using my laptop for Powerpoint and Keynote presentations at work. I used to have a Powerbook 1.5GHz 15" and now have a MacBook Pro 2.2GHz 15". With some external VGA projectors, after connecting the MacBook Pro, everything works great. I turn off mirroring and my presentation goes smoothly.
However, with some particular external VGA projectors, I get a connection problem. After using my DVI-to-VGA cable to connect my MBP to the projector, nothing happens. The projector continues to project a blue screen as though nothing is connected to it and as though it has no video source. I've cycled through the projectors input selections hoping the projector would find the signal but still nothing. I've even restarted my MBP with the cables attached to the projector and still the projector shows a blue screen.
My friends can connect their PC Windows XP and Windows Vista computers to this same projector with no problems. I used to have this same problem with my PowerBook G4 which is one of the reasons I upgraded to the new MBP hoping this problem would be resolved. What's wrong and what can I do to get my MBP compatible with the external projector?

Sorry, I meant the cable that links between the connector and the input to the projector (RGB - IN by the way, not OUT).
We have a number of these VGA cables at my place of work that will work with a PC but not a Mac. Some are fine. My technician holds on to a cable for me that we know works and if I get a bad one, he brings in the replacement and it takes a few seconds to go online. I also note that some of the projectors (particularly ceiling mounted ones) have an additional adapter between the cable and the projector. It may be that some of the pins are not connected.
Of course, if the projector is mounted too high, that would not allow easy replacement.
I would suggest finding a cable that works and carrying that around.

  • Projector crash on newest Macbook Pro?

Hi there - I am in the process of debugging an interactive DVD comprised of graphics (JPEG buttons, bmp images), some text, and lots of quicktime h.264 encoded video at 480x360, 15fps, 400kbps. The basic flow is splash-screen, wait 6 seconds --> main menu.
From the main menu, you select which chapter (these are lectures to accompany a textbook) to view, and based on information entered into the script, director dynamically updates the player window with the correct buttons/rollovers etc. All of that is working just fine - I just wanted to set the stage here.
I'm authoring on Director 11.5 on a Mac Pro, and the windows projectors work flawlessly now that memory management within the script is squared away.
I have been unable to update to 11.5.8 - Adobe Updater perpetually fails.
the ONLY machine that the projector crashes without any error message is on my latest-edition Macbook Pro (8,2). The projector vanishes when the video player window loads.  The buttons populate, and then POOF - gone. This screen occurs over three frames - one stages the buttons before moving to the next frame, where the media assets are determined and linked to the dynamically assigned buttons (Section 1.1, 1.2, 1.3... et al). The third is a Loop & Time frame, which handles the actual playing of the media. Clicking on another section's button goes back to the second frame to stage the proper video, before moving to the Loop & TIme frame.
The projector runs well from DVD (dual layer) on XP, Vista, Win7, Mac OSX on a G5 Quad (powerPC), an iBook, a Mac Mini, and my desktop machine (also used to author). It doesn't matter if I run it from the DVD or the Hard Drive on the MacBook Pro (8,2) - same resulting crash.
Any thoughts? I was certainly not expecting this at this late stage... I know there are probably more details required here - but I thought I'd start here...
Thanks in advance for your theories and acumen,
    -greg

OK, just a quick follow-up to the problem.
After further analysis of the apple crash log, my attention was drawn to the Perian application. After uninstalling it from the system preferences panel, all media played well.
Curiously, each of my other Mac computers also have Perian installed, but only the new Macbook Pro (8,2) has trouble with playing media via the projector.
    Cheers,
    -greg

  • How do I fix a Configuration Error on MacBook Pro?

I have a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 with 8 gigs of memory. I was running CS6 and my video board went out. I got it fixed but lost all my data on my hard drive. So I tried installing cs6 from a disk image that I had saved and after entering the serial code I received that my license was revoked. That could be true since I was at another company when I purchased it. Now I'm trying out the TRIAL Adobe cloud solution and after installing and getting updates, when i clicked on the app I get a configuration error when trying to open the . Do I need to delete some library items that are conflicting when I tried to install CS6?
    Here is the error:

  • Computer constantly restarting due to an error - 2010 Macbook Pro

Hi guys, so this is my first post here in the service community so please let me know if I need to provide any additional information. Anyway, on to the issue.  So this has been going on for a while now, but in the last month or so it has really gotten to the point where I can't reliably use it, which is a problem as a college student.  My computer reboots, goes to a white screen which says press any key to continue, and then says my computer restarted due to an error upon loading.  I purchased the computer in the summer of 2010, it is a 15" Macbook Pro with the 2.66GHz i7 processor.
I noticed the issue begin when I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion I believe, and I am currently running OSX Mavericks.  I have done some research on the subject and found that some mid 2010 15" MBP's were made with a defective GPU, but because I am unable to decipher the actual error message I figured I would post it up here and get a more bit more of a specific answer from people that knew what they were talking about. I am currently out of a service plan and anything along those lines, so know that replacing the GPU would be quite costly, and need to consider some things if that is the issue.
Thanks ahead of time for any information/help you guys provide!
This is the error message I receive upon the reboot:

It's likely that you have the issue covered by http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4088
Although the three year period has probably passed, you should take it to Apple or an authorised dealer & ask that they test for that specific problem.
Seeveral users here have reported free repairs even when well outside 3 years: here's a very recent one.

  • Projector setup with my MacBook Pro

When I properly set up my MacBook Pro 5,4 with my projector, it only displays slideshows in Powerpoint; otherwise it shows the purple Apple screen. Is this a resolution setting issue, or something else? I want to project whatever is on my desktop.

In that case follow these instructions:
    1. Boot OS X Recovery by restarting the computer while holding the ⌘ (Command) and R keys.
    2. When the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities from the Menu Bar, then click Terminal.
    3. In the Terminal window, type resetpassword and press Return.
    4. The password reset utility window will appear.
Do not select a new password.
Instead, click the icon for your Mac's hard disk at the top. From the dropdown below it, select the user account with the problem.
    5. At the bottom of the window, you will see Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the Reset button.
The reset process may take a couple of minutes. When it finishes quit the programs and restart your Mac.

  • Grub compile error on macbook pro retina

    Hi guys,
I'm trying to enable the integrated intel card on my macbook pro, and disable the nvidia card to save battery life. I'm following the instructions on the wiki and it says to apply the patch from here to grub-git. I saved the patch to a file called apple_set_os.patch, and updated the PKGBUILD file to include the patch, but when I try run "makepkg -si", it fails with the following error:
    mv syminfo.lst.new syminfo.lst
    cat syminfo.lst | sort | gawk -f ./genmoddep.awk > moddep.lst || (rm -f moddep.lst; exit 1)

TO make sure it wasn't the patch that was causing the issue, I tried to build grub-git without the patch, but it still failed with the exact same error. Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Ahmed

Have you tried posting this on the aur comments or email the maintainer?  I am receiving this error as well.

  • Hardware Test Error on Macbook Pro 09

I did a hardware test on my 2009 Macbook Pro and received an error. The error code is 4mem/4/40000000:0xaa2fe298.   has anyone encountered this before? Does this mean my hard drive is going bad?

  • HT6154 Updated os now mac mail errors on macbook pro, mac, and iphone

I recently updated my os on my macbook pro (os 10.9.2) and my iphone (7.1.1), now I am unable to consistently access my email accounts on any of my devices.  My gmail works sporadically, my exchange worked at first, and stopped working on my iphone and my mac.  I have tried deleting & adding accounts that solved the problem for a little while when it first happened, but it has conitnued.  I get pop up errors on iphone including "The connection to the server failed." When I try to add my exchange account, the error reads, "unable to verify account information."  It allows me to save my account info, but then continues to ask for my password and never connects.  On my macbook pro, the accounts will go off-line and I have to regularly use the connection doctor.  I can access all of my accounts through my email service providers.  Any suggestions?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Quit and relaunch Mail, and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • HT204655 Why is Photos Causing an Unexpected Error on MacBook Pro?

I've tried to get Photos started on my MacBook Pro twice.  I uninstalled it and then found the 10.10.3 combination software and downloaded it again.
When I get to the "Get Started" screen, I get "An unexpected error has occurred."  Then Photos shuts down and won't go any further.
This is repeatable.  Happens every time I click on the photosicon.
    I need some help here!

Same thing has happened to me. I'm using a MacBook Aluminum (Late 2008) upgraded to 8GB of RAM and 1TB HDD running Yosemite 10.10.3. I successfully set up the photo app on an admin account that has no photos, but had the same error on my main user account.
    Troubleshooting attempted so far:
    1. Closed the app then tried again - did not correct the error
    2. Rebooted then tried opening Photo App - did not correct the error
    3. Rebooted in "Safe Mode" and repaired disk permissions - did not correct the error
I'm currently copying all my photo's to an external HDD with the intention of deleting my iPhoto library (once complete) then setting up the Photo App with no photos in my library. I'm hoping it will allow me to set it up at that point like it did with my admin account, then import all my old pics. I still have about 2 hours to go until my photos have copied over to my external HDD. I'm hoping someone will come along with a better solution. I really don't want to spend several hours/day re-organizing my photos.

  • Mirroring a profiled projector changes also my Macbook Pro profiled display

Hi everybody, I have a really annoying problem: I have a Macbook Pro 2009 running 10.6.3 and an Epson Projector. MBP display and projector are calibrated and profiled with Colormunki. MBP screen has its own profile and projector also. When I use them in Extended desktop they keep their own profiles and colors, but when I mirror them only projector keeps its profile while MBP screen becomes red like it tries to simulate Epson profile. Why? I need to work in mirror mode because my projector screen is behind me, and I need to have correct profiles on both mirrored displays. If I look in Display Preferences it tells me that MBP screen has the correct profile but it isn't true!! Is there a way to mirror MBP screen and a projector and keep profiles correct an both displays?

In mirrored mode both displays will try to be the same resolution. Hence "mirrored". If your projector and MBP can not both display the same (for example if the projector is trying to display a higher resolution than your MBP can display) resolution one will not display correctly. The way to have each display keep its allowed resolution is to use extended mode.

  • I cannot get my new projector to work with Macbook Pro

Does anyone know how to hook up a projector to a laptop with dvi-i port? I have a 2008 MacBook Pro with DVI-I out and a new projector. i bought a DVI to HDMI cable and the projector couldsee some weird version of my laptop screen but could not see the movie that was playing, very weird. I don't know if I have the wrong cable, if there is an Apple compatibility issue or what. I cannot seem to find a DVI to analog cable adaptor (Fry's said I would have to pay $100 for a converter)
    Help! Thanks.

you need a dvi to hdmi, or can you use VGA, make  the connection from the Mac to the projector. Mac on projector off. Turn on the projector, it should detect the image, there will not be audio with HDMI, you will need to connect to the in house sound system. Same with VGA.
If it still does not see it go to system preferences>dislpays, detect displays, then adjust the resolution
