Dir 11 movie won't open on old PC

I just installed Dir 11 and created a cross platform CD.
I can open it on my Quad-core Intel Xeon Mac.
It has auto run and opens on a Intel Pentium 4 - PC.  And on my Intel laptop PC.
But when I try to open the EXE. file on a circa 2000 Compac PC with Intel Celeron running WIndows ME, I get a little error box that has "?I???Ib?I OK" in it.
Any movies created in Director MX and Director MX2004 work in this old PC.
My client wants these CDs to run in as many machines as possible.  That's why I test them on the old PC.
Any idea what the problem and solution might be.
Thanks,
David

According to this FAQ:
http://www.adobe.com/products/director/systemreqs/
The minimum required system for playback on a PC is:
Intel Pentium 4 processor
Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista
512MB of RAM
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or 7.0 or Firefox 2.0
So, if you need older OS support, you would need to stick with MX 2004

The latest Pages won't save new docs and won't open some old ones. What do I do?

Then you have two version of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.x is in your Applications folder.
Pages '08/'09 is in your Applications/iWork folder.

  • Apps and movies won't open under my old itunes msn id, but the newer iCloud id presents no problem. i've reset the phone a number of times. is there away to get all my previous purchases from my old account transfered to the newer iCloud account?

i now have three Apple Store accounts. The first was when I signed up for mobileMe ending in "me." The second ending in "msn" And now the third ending in,"icloud"
The first two seemed to be linked and i would get notifications to update even when i wasn't signed into that account. All the apps downloaded worked just fine on my Iphone4  whether they were downloaded using my iphone or whether they were downloaded from my macbook pro no matter which account they were downloaded from. Now since i started using icloud and after a number of restores my Apple id under "msn" downloads on the apps and my movies all purchased from itunes won't open up. All the other id's apps open up just fine. I've reinstalled itunes, deleted all the apps under the msn account and tried to redownload on both my iphone and my laptop but, no sucess.
I think the only way to get the apps that i've paid for previously is the see if itunes could move my previous purchases from one account, "msn", to my "icloud" account. has anyone else had a problem like this and how can I makethis happen?

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple - I've asked the hosts to remove your email addresses from your post (it's not a good idea to post personal info on any public forum).
Is the old account a completely different iTunes account, or is it just a previous primary email address on the same account ? If it's a different account then all content that you download from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it, so only that old account will be able to download updates to its apps.
If it's the same account, just a previous primary email address, then what id shows at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app on your phone ? You could try tapping on that and log out of it and then log back in with the updated version and see what id then shows for updates.

  • Keynote 6.1 won't open an old files.

I just bought Keynote 6.1 (and installed Maverick to run it) and have found that it won't open old files created with version 4.something.  It tells me to save them with Keynote 09 which I don't have and can't buy.  On the face of it, it looks like I can't use any of my hundred - odd Keynote presentations with the new version, which means not with the iPad either.  Any ideas?

  • .mov won't open in Quicktime

Hello all. I have a strange issue with a .mov file. It is visable to me in the Finder preview window (i.e. I can press the play arrow and watch the movie and hear sound), but when I try to open it with Quicktime X, Quicktime 7, FInal Cut, etc. I get the message "Searching for movie data in file" and then "The movie file 'filename-av.mov1' cannot be found."  I was able to open it in VLC, but can't figure out a way to export it from there in a format QT will understand.
My previous job-holder made the movie in Final Cut, so I know that I have the proper codecs installed (DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, Linear PCM). I've opened it before, with no problems.
Any ideas of how to get it open and accessable? I need to open it to eventually convert it to h.264, so a solution that would do that is totally fine.
    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. It is standalone, about 2.05 GB. I transferred only that file to another computer to test that, and had the same thing happen (plays in VLC and preview, not in QT).
Am confused. You copied which file to another computer—the one you have or the one for which the QT player is looking? Yes, 2.05 GB does sound like a "standalone" file unless the reference is made to only a small segment of content or a single track of additional data. And, as far as VLC is concerned, did you actually play the entire file or simply open it in VLC? (I.e., VLC is a transport stream media player and will open unterminated files which QT will not open unless it can "see" the EOF.) As to QuickView, it is based on a different tecnology and doesn't even require the sourcing player codecs to be available for playback. Too bad the file won't open in QT so you could check the resources in the "Properties" window.

  • Movie won't open in Quicktime and won't save in iTunes

I have just finished editing a project and I am trying to share it to iTunes or Quicktime.
When I share it to "Apple Devices 720", it was automatically saved to the Final Cut Project file folder under "Shared Items", and inside I found the Quicktime file for the project. But it won't open in Quicktime, I am getting an error message that says:
"The document XXXXX (1280 x 720).m4v-TEMP” could not be opened. The movie's file format isn't recognized."
I tried to share it to iTunes, nothing works. I just want to be able to play it.
Ideally, I would like to be able to play the movie in iTunes on my iMac, and be able to sync it to iPod Touch.

Actually, I solved the problem. follow these instrudctions:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences—the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
If you can't find com.apple.finalcutpro.plist delete any com.apple.finalcut..... files.

  • Pages 08 won't open my old pages file

I just upgraded to Pages 08 and when I try to open the file I was working on yesterday, with the previous version of pages, it says "The document...couldn't be opened". How can I open the old pages file with the new version?

It may be useful to trash the preferences file:
    <bootVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
But I'm afraid that the document is corrupted.
Control click its icon then select the "Show package's contents" in the contextual menu.
    The standard contents is:
    Contents
    QuickLook
    index.xml.gz
The described message is displayed when there is no "index.xml.gz" (or "index.xml") file.
It is also displayed when the "index.xml.gz" (or "index.xml") is badly formed.
The index may be dropped when the documents where stored on an iDisk.

  • Updated - 6.0.5 just won't open, now old versions won't either

Okay, so I already had a topic posted, but REALLY REALLY want to get my itunes working again on that PC, and would really like some other thoughts and options.
    I've tried just about everything.
Here's a brief synopsis of what happens and things I can think of off the top of my head that I've tried.
okay, so 6.0.4 was working fine, decided to upgrade to 6.0.5.2 and when I click on itunes to open, the TOS agreement comes up and asks me to agree or decline (NOTE: this is not a "brief flash", it stays on the screen until I click either accept or decline.....Other note: This doesn't happen when opening quicktime, quicktime opens just fine). After I click accept, the window closes and nothing happens (except that the itunes process then runs and pretty much locks up my system (i.e. I can't open any other program or shut down...I try to kill the process and it won't shut down, so I can to manually power off the tower)).
I've tried uninstalling every single apple related component and reinstalling, same problem...tried QT standalone....same problem....tried running a walware utility (ewido, adaware, spyware doctor, others...same problem). I've tried a registry cleaner (regvac...great program)...same problem.
    I've tried msconfig....same problem.
I've even tried going back to version 5 of itunes, and I now get the same problem.
Here's an update to the old problem...so whatever 6.0.5 changed, I now cannot open realone player, or real jukebox after trying to install that (I HATE WIN MEDIA PLAYER and was searching for another option while itunes is down on that system).
I've tried opening another windows profile...same problem.
I'm wondering if I might want to delete my old library profile and if that MIGHT be causing some sort of problem (as that's pretty much the only apple/itunes related piece left on my system after I clean up and try to reinstall).
Any thoughts?? ANYBODY?? B Noir maybe??
Sorry for the long winded post, but I just want to let everyone know EVERYTHING that I've tried

WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! JUST WANTED TO UPDATE Y'ALL THAT BY SOME STROKE OF HEAVENLY GLORY, ITUNES DECIDED TO WORK AGAIN!!!
    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
How did I do it you ask??
after all the stuff I updated you about, I tried one last time to install....still didn't work...so once again I wiped my system of everything itunes and apple related
well today I was trying to watch a video that required me to get the quicktime plug in, and it too me to a page that was a quicktime install + itunes 7.blah blah blah instead of the other way around
well, don't ask me why, but low and behold
    IT WORKS!!!!
I HAVE MY ITUNES BACK!!! (JUMPS FOR JOY)
Just wanted to share my shear elation

  • QT movies won't open, just search for clip, and then error 128

I have filmed a lot of digital movies when I was an undergraduate studying film and I exported them all as quicktime movies to save in my computer; however, for some unknown reason, whenever I try to re-watch those movies, QT searches for "Clip 01" or whatever and says that it cannot open the movie without this clip, and then gives me "error (-128)." What is up with this? I thought once I exported the film as a QT .mov that would be the only file I needed. I don't understand why it needs to search for a clip. Thanks for anyones help, I'm trying to piece together a demo reel and now I don't have access to about 75% of my work.
    G4 Desktop   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Dual Processor 1.25 & 2 GB of RAM

When you "Save as" QuickTime Movie you get two choices... Reference movie and Self contained.
Self contained creates a movie with all needed media (video and audio clips) within the .mov file.
Reference movie creates a very small file that tells QuickTime where to find the clips to play and does not copy those clips into the mov file.

  • Swf movie won't open in dreamweaver

I created a flv movie in Flash from a avi file, which I then
exported as a swf movie. The swf movie plays fine in Flash
(file>publish preview), but when I place it into an html page in
Dreamweaver the flash icon ( f ) displays on the html page but if I
try to play the movie in Dreamweaver or open it in a test browser
all I get is a white box where the movie should be playing.
ps I can open swf images (Flash>file>export>export
images) in Dreamweaver ok, but not movies.
    I need some help please!
    Thanks

FTP it and include dependent files. Make sure the Scripts
    folder and script
    are on the server.

  • Finished a project, burned a movie, won't open

Hi Forum, I know this is a FCP forum, but this is indirectly involved:
I just finished a project in FCP, and used Compressor and IDVD to make a fine movie that plays great on MY New, fancy Panasonic HDMI DVD player....
    However,
It won't play on some of the older players the client tried to look at. Is there any other "encryption" or option I should try? I mean, why does any 7.99 movie on sale from walmart play on the older players, but not my cool, hot-off-the press FCP produced movie?
    Thanks
PS...Redirect me as you see fit, I appreciate it!
    Mark

OK...well, seems that the "one" disk I made using compressor, works fine (I just got off the phone).
For the other copies, I used a "self-contained" movie, dropped it into TOAST and made the vid, which went to copy....so i'm now assuming that the signal, encoding might have got lost in TOAST or during duplication.
    Thanks
    M

  • Numbers 13 won't open my old files from Numbers 08 unless I first save them to 09 which I don't have. How can I resolve this?

I have been using Numbers 08 on my early 2008 Mac Pro 2.8Ghz, 8 core and have have 5 years of documents in that format. I skipped Numbers 09 and when Numbers 13 wasn't available free like Pages 13 and Aperture 3, presumably because they were the immediatly previous upgrades, I bought Numbers 13. However it will not open any of my older documents, saying first I have to save them in Numbers 09. How can I resolve this? Will I have to buy Numbers 09 to recover all my documents?

  • New MBP w/lion; upgraded to iLife11 but iPhoto won't open old library?

I bought a new macbook pro in september. After completing a vacation iMovie, I noticed the new MBP didn't have iDVD on it to burn to send discs to family. I purchased iLife11 for this program but it also updated iPhoto. Pretty cool until I tried to open iPhoto11 and it won't open the old version's library... why? More importantly, how do I get around it? I have a Time Capsule so a backup or two exist if necessary... just want to get this project done without killing the hole weekend! Thanks!

As usual... found the answer after I posted this. I updated the upgrade when I installed iLife11 yesterday. It worked but I still had the problem. I thought I would try it again today to see if there were any additional updates... and KAPOW... there was, and problem FIXED! Thanks!

  • Attempted to install AirPort Utility 6.0 on my new mac mini. Install failed and now the previous version 5.5.3 won't open. I downloaded and tried to instal 6.0 without software update, which failed, and my old 5.5.3 AirPort Utility still won't open? Help.

Now the previous version won't open. I downloaded and tried to instal 6.0 without software update, which failed, and my old 5.5.3 Airport Utility still won't open.
iTunes no longer recognizes my airport express.
    Error Message:

Can't delete Airport Utility and reinstal from scratch as it is, “AirPort Utility” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X.
    Any sugestions?

I reinstalled AirPort 5.5.3 which worked, but the app still won't launch but iTunes now recognizes my AirPort Express, I just hope I don't want to change its settings.

  • Imovie won't open a specific movie

I have been working for 2 days on a project. I took audio that I recorded from Skype and brought it into imovie to edit because I want to add video but it kept crashing on me and I had problems opening it so I trashed what I had done and broke up the audio into 2 parts thinking it was too large a file (originally 40 minutes of audio but I have been editing a lot of it). Now I can't get either of the files I worked on to open and I don't want to start from scratch again.
I went and bought more memory (1g), cleaned everything off of my computer I didn't need, updated all the software, repaired disk permission, cleaned out the file from the library preferences (I've been trying to find the answer in discussion) and I still can't get either file to open. I have a lot of edits, yes, but one of the projects is edited down to 8 minutes and there are no special edits, just cuts. imovie will open if I don't open either of these 2 projects. When I try to open these the wheel will spin for awhile and then imovie just won't open and it closes itself, there is no error message.
I also tried to copy one of the projects and open it in another window but it said Quicktime can't parse it.
From my reading I figured out how to export as an aiff and hope to do that and then reinport it but the problem is I can't get to the movie to export it. Any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to lose another day's worth of editing.
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Try sharing your movie as Full Quality Quicktime if you can't get the audio to export. You may need to put in at least one photo to have something in the video track.
Then, see if you can import that quicktime movie into a new iMovie project and have it open.
I also tried to copy one of the projects and open it in another window but it said Quicktime can't parse it.
You can't put one project into another project. You need to copy the clips from the timeline and paste that into a new project.
