Direct and Flexible loading for Attributes for a Info-object?

Dear all,
Is it possible to have both Direct and Flexible update for Attributes of an Info-object from two different data sources from the same source system(R/3) . The reason being that the first data source can not be extended in R/3.
When this scenario is tried For Flexible loading The data loading is not successful in BW.No errors/dumps found.

In this case I start and activate the whole data flow again to hopefully get an error message. If this still has no success I'd open an OSS message. Even if you have made a mistake you should get an error message somewhere.
Some other places you might check:
SM50 to see if the job is still running
DB02 to see DB locks and tablespace problems

I've never worked with Access as a database, before. But, if this were SQL (and it might work), then, yes, a LEFT OUTER JOIN would do the trick.
SELECT ta.Lastname, ta.Firstname, ta.EmpID, ta.MgrEmpID, ta.Email, ta.Location
FROM TableA ta LEFT OUTER JOIN TableA tb ON tb.MgrEmpID = ta.EmpID

Generating export datasource for an info object

Hello Guys
I am working on BW 3.5. I need to generate an export data source for an infoobject so that I can load its texts into another target IO. When I go into the infosources tab, and right click on the particular IO, it gives me the option of creating an export data source.
My question is: How do i transport this data source from DEV --> QA? Do we have to re-create the export data source in each system individually, ie DEV, QA and PROD.
Secondly, when I could see the export data source in the the BWQ source system, i tried moving the transfer rules for the DS to the target IO and it gave an error.
Error message:
Mapping between data source 80CRED_GROUPT and source system BWQCLNT100 is inconsistent
Field CRED_GROUP will not be delivered from DataSource 80CRED_GROUPT in source system BWQCLNT100
Field C_CTR_AREA will not be delivered from DataSource 80CRED_GROUPT in source system BWQCLNT100
Field LANGU will not be delivered from DataSource 80CRED_GROUPT in source system BWQCLNT100
Field TXTMD will not be delivered from DataSource 80CRED_GROUPT in source system BWQCLNT100
Why is this happening? And as i asked before, can i transport an export DS or do I create it in each environment individually? Please note: This is an export DS for an info object.

You can transport the export data source across the landscape(Dev to QA).
You do not eed to generate it in each system.
Also ensure that the conversion of logical system names or the source system names has been maintained.
You are right it looks like the data source creation was a problem hence it is not alllowing importing transfer rules.
You may try to recollect the export data source and transport and then once it is transported successfully replicate metadata of the self system.
Now transport the transfer rules.

In the tranformation i have deleted a rule for an info object material?

Hi all,
In the transformation i have deleted a rule for an info object material and then moved into quality. The number of columns is 10 after the material is excluded.
And the same transport moveed to production with warning messages.
the number of columns is 11 and it is not 10 when i check in the quality!!
Can anyone help me on this!!

Hi,
As you said you removed the rule in transformation for an object (attribute) in matreila master data object.
Number of column/attrbute will remain same when you will see data in master data object (material). It is just the mapping from source is removed so you will not see any data in that attribute/column for whihc you have removed the rule/transformation.
For removing column you need to remove attribute/Info Object from Master data object (Material) attribute list.

How to create master data/text for an info object

Hi All,
I am working on a report and having a problem with an info object since it has no master data. This characteristic is supposed to be in the selection parameters and also should contain key and text in it. Since there is no master data for this info object there is no text and keys don't come up. Does any one knows how to add master data to this info object without reloading the ODS?

You shold load the master data into BW first,
othere wise you can do one thing
goto infopackage and schedule where in the update tab select the radio button
Always update the data,even if no masterdata is exist for that.

Showin a variable description for an info-object depending on a user login

Hi,
Client requirement is to show a variable description for an info-object depending on a user login.
e.g. a Characteristic Name is Level1 with a description as 'Level1'. If a user in Canada logs in and see a BEx report he should be able to see the description for infoobject Level1 as 'Cost center'. A user in US may wish to see the description as 'Expense center' etc. etc.
Is it possible to do so ? If yes please let me know ASAP.

I don't think it is possible through standard functionality, but maybe you could try a workaround.
Create a Characteristic (say COMP) with text, and compound it with Infoobject Level1. The values and description for COMP could be
US Cost Center
CN Expense Center
You could make COMP an Authorisation relevant object and check the same with regard to user login, so that the people of sepecific country see only description relevant to their COMP.
In the report Display COMP as Description and Level1 as Key.
But do not that compounding may have an impact on the performance, also look into the implications of the same if you need to do it for a large number of reports/objects.

I am getting some problem, when I trying to find the some selections for info object in variable selection screen; it giving some error like u201CWILD CARDS" are not allowed for this info object.
I am trying to find the search item like this: TELENOR*
When I click on find button it is giving error.

Hi,
You need to create a selections option variable on the characteristic that needs to be filtered.
After doing this, when you run the query, select the * from the dropdown box,and give the value.

Leading single ZERO for char info object

Hi All,
I have a info object which is having characteristic value. It is getting values like this

065435
when it is coming to BW the ZEROs are skipped can some one help to get this value as it is.
IF iam having alpha converision then it add zeros as many has characteristic length define.

HI,
Check if you are using any conversion in the data source.
Also when you are trying to check the data, select the "do not use conversion" option to view the data.
because if you are using a char data type for the info object you're using, the leading zeroes would be as it is.

Memory and CPU load for one Oracle instance

I need to design a database server with 5 oracle instances.
Each instance have only 2 or 3 connected application users and the rate of transactions is about 10 transactions/hour.
How can I estimate to total memory and CPU needed for my server ?
The minimum esimation : 2x2Ghz and 2Go of RAM per instance is it pertinent ?

DominikThough the picked specs look okay but the better answer, as being mentioned already, would be "it depends" . At this moment, almost all the machines are coming with very good specs so 2gb probably would be the least . You can even have a 4gb RAM system with x86_64 architecture , leaving room for future growth if needed. About setting the memory for the SGA, if the release is 11g, setting the Memory_Target would take care of the the memory allocation for both SGA and PGA and you can start by the default that Oracle picks which I guess is about 40% of the total RAM. Afterwards, you can monitor the performance and can bring down the memory settings if you feel its overly allocated.
That said, I think that this is a question better answered by the capacity planning and management people. I shall see if I can ask my friend, who is in this domain to comment on it.
Just my 2 cents.

Direct and flexible update

Hi,
In the infopackage of a masterdata object which is having direct update i.e; no infosource in between masterdataobject and the datasource, can the option under processing " only psa and update subsequntly in Data targets" be checked.
This option is available for flexible update masterdata objects where as for directupdate objects this option is disabled in the infopackage.
Kindly clarify if this option is possible or not.

U shall get the option in both scenarios, irrespective of direct or flexible update.
But if your datasource is a 7.x datasource the infopackage will be defaulted to load till PSA only

Unable to find Transfer Rules and Data Source for 0PERSON Info Source

I'am working on SALES ANALYSIS Configuration with the help of SAP Best Practices.
I'am trying to load Master Data Attributes/Texts/Hierarchies.
I'am able to load for allmost all the InfoPackages which i created for particular DataSource.
Now i need to load master data for 0PERSON InfoObject under that Person (Attributes) and Person (texts) are there,for this 2 Transfer Rules and the DataSource has to be defined by default as it is defined for other Attributes/Texts/Hierarchies.But i'am unable to find a DataSource and Transfer Rules to create a infopackage for PERSON Attributes and Texts.
Please gudie me with a solution in order to get these Transfer Rules and DataSource for this Attributes and Texts.

Hi,
Install the corresponding master data objects from Business content. Go to data source find out the needed datasource, replicate it. If you want you can migrate it also.
If still you are not getting 0person masterdata object datasource & transformation structure, then you have to create the transformation, Infopackage.
Hope if you will install the business content again, it will solve your problem.

Multiple data sources for 1 info object

hi all,
i am working with ods 0fiap_003 info source overview u can see for 0comp_code
Company Code: Attributes and Tests (Flexible Update) this is a transaction data data source.
G/L Account: Attributes (Flexible Update) this is a transaction data data source
G/L Account: Texts (Flexible Update) 0GL_ACCOUNT_TEXT this is a transaction data data source
and there r master data data sources for these objects
G/L Account hierarchy text attributes r available.
so only for 0gl_account 5 data sources available.
3 master data ds.2 flexible data trans data data sources.same for comp code.
so how can we map for these 5 dsources in this scenario.
i am going to create process chains for master data(3) transaction data(1).
should i put trans .data info packages in the transaction data process chain
ex: G/L Account: Attributes (Flexible Update) this one.
plz suggest me

Hi Sri,
There can be multiple datasources assigned to a single master object. Only they should be unique per source system.
Regarding process chain, u should include the infopackage for transaction data in trans data process chain. This is because ur job scheduling for master and transaction load would differ. So the process chains should be separate.

Need to populate 0MAT_PLANT in a virtual provider. But during query performance it is like -
If someone were to add a filter to the BW query on 0MAT_PLANT, it would take the system awhile to search the APO database for that 18 CHAR material number because the data in APO is stored differently (40 CHARs). The point of the inverse routine is to convert the 18 CHAR to be 40 CHAR for those times when someone selects on 0MAT_PLANT. That way, the field types match and finding the data in APO is much quicker.
Hence if we need selection on the selection scree of the query for 0MAT_PLANT, we are trying for inverse routine which will convert 18 chars to 40 chars in the query level and the performance will be quicker.
See, 0MAT_PLANT is of 18 Char length. We are mapping it from ZMATNR in source which is of 40 chars. Thus initially in the field routine we will write a code to convert 0MAT_PLANT to 18 from 40.
Below is the code and the place we now we also need to write inverse routine to convert it to 40 from 18 chars.
