Direct connection network problem

hi. I've just set up a network using a direct connection cable between 2 computers. Currently the cable (15meters) is connected to the Realtek lan port with the other side connected to a SMS (100mps) network card in the other machine( pentium 2.4 GHz 640MB ram). Every few minutes or so the "network cable is disconnected" blob in the system tray appears. Also this problem persists when playing network games using a TCP connection. My IP addresses are manually set up to 197.197.197.1 & 197.197.197.2 on the other machine. All firewalls are off and both the nVidia & realtek ports give the same problem. What could be the problem?

slaska,
Just make sure you use the Port that you loaded the Drivers for. I would suggest using the nVidia one since when you load the nVidia nForce Drivers, it will active that NIC.
Are you sure you are plugging the CAT-5 Crossover into the correct NIC?
Take Care,
Richard

  • LaCie MiniHD connect network problem

I have a LaCie MiniHD connect in my local network. Did everything LaCie told me to do so I could write to the USB attached LaCie drive.
Formatted the drive in OS X EXtended but not journalized.
Tried to connect via smb://MiniHD.smb.tcp.local and the network told me to enter my ID and Password, I don't know why.
So I brought back the disk drive to my mac and changed the whole drive permission to read and write for everyone.
Brought back the drive to my TV and now I could transfer anything from my mac to the drive.
I was glad of that, but having shut down the drive and the MiniHD connect, when I opened it again to transfer something from my mac to the drive, I still got the same problem again with the same message.
"One or more elements cannot be copied to "LaCie_750" because you don't have the permission to read. Do you want to copy the elements you are authorized to read."
I suspect the software on the Lacie MiniHD connect to block OS X when it initialises the drive on startup.
In particular I see a folder named _HF2VN~W appearing in the root level of the drive.
Can any one help me with thi samba network problem on Mac OX 10.6.5?

I have since had a reply from LaCie to say that this issue has been identified and is being worked on - however I'm afraid that I don't have any timeline for when this will be fixed.

  • Directly Connected Networks... Why can't I get to IPs on different Switches but in a common subnet???

    Hi,
I've set up a pair of switches in a DMZ type environment that hangs off of our DMZ firewall.
The firewall has a static route to the supernet hosted on the switches via switch interface 10.1.191.12
The static route is:  10.1.160.0 /19  via 10.1.191.12
The firewall has the local interface address 10.1.191.11 /28
       Switches 01 and 02 have a floating HSRP address of 10.1.191.12 /28
Switch 01 has a vlan interface address of 10.1.191.13 /28
Switch 02 has a vlan interface address of 10.1.191.14 /28
The firewall is completely open at the moment.  From my desktop on the other side of the firewall from the 10.1.160.0 /19 network I can happily ping all the addresses mentioned above.  i.e. From my desktop (IP 10.0.33.50) I can ping 10.1.191.11, 12, 13, 14.
I've also configured another network across the switch pair:  10.1.160.0 /24
This network has a VLAN interface set up on each switch as follows:
Switch 01 has a vlan interface address of 10.1.160.251 /24
Switch 02 has a vlan interface address of 10.1.160.252 /24
From each switch I can ping the 10.1.160.25x address thus subnet connectivity is fine across the two switches.
From my desktop on the other side of the firewall from the 10.1.160.0 /19 network I can happily ping the 10.1.160.251 address.
    NOW the Problem....
From my desktop on the other side of the firewall from the 10.1.160.0 /19 network I CAN NOT ping the 10.1.160.252 address.
i.e. I can only ping IP addresses hosted by the switch that the next hop for the firewall points to (i.e. 10.1.191.12)
I don't understand why I can only ping IP addresses on other subnets when the IP address is local to the switch that is hosting the next hop IP that the firewall is set to use!!
Please can somebody explain what the problem is here!?
    * Please let me know if further clarification is required on this question!!?

    Hi,
Just thought I'd update this as I figured out what the problem was.
I was using a default route instead of a static route to get back to the internal company network via the firewall.  As soon as I put a static route on instead and enabled IP routing the routing started to work fine for all subnets this side of the firewall.

  • How can i delay the present of direct connected route?

Hi, I got 2 3550SMI switch interconnecting by Etherchannel. Each 3550 has an uplink to its upstream router (R1-SW1=SW2-R2). R1 and R2 connects to the remote site routers (say R3 and R4).
With EIGRP redistribute connected, R1 update the direct connected network via WAN link A to R3 where R2 does the same thing updating R4 via WAN link B.
The failover is fine after SW2 powered off. However, problem occured when I powered up SW2. During the bootup of SW2, there was carrier signal which brought up the ethernet port of R2 and the direct connected route presented in R2 then updating R4. Some of the traffic had started to come over from R4 via WAN link B to R2 while SW2 is still booting. (or Etherchannel was not yet ready). As a result, workstation connecting to SW1 cannot be reached for those traffic came from R4->R3->SW2.
I have tried to use "carrier-delay 60"on the ethernet port of R2. It seems solve the problem since the direct connected route delay 60sec. Within that 60 sec, no update via EIGRP from R2 to R4 so that all traffic still went through R3->R1. After that 60 sec, SW2 had already bootup and the etherchannel was also ready.
However, i can only do it with C3725 router. I've tried 1750, 25xx, 26xx and 3640-12.3T but the behavior was not expected (route still present immediately after carrier signal detected).
    My questions are:
Is that command valid on Eth or FE interface?
Is there any different using that command with diff. router series, eg. ISR (18xx,28xx,38xx)?
Is there any condition that I could make it work? (at least 3725 worked)
Is there any other way to delay the present of that direct connected route?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
instead of the 'carrier-delay' command, you could try to change the EIGRP hello and hold-time intervals (which default to 5 and 15 seconds respectively on broadcast media such as Ethernet), in order to delay EIGRP convergence. So, on your Ethernet interfaces when you use the interface commands:
    ip hello-time eigrp x 60
    ip hold-time eigrp x 180
the redistributed routes will show up only after 60 seconds, which effectively does the same as the 'carrier-delay'...
Can you try that and see if that works for you ?

  • Phones with PTT and Nextel Direct Connect (USA) su...

    Hi !
I am looking to for Nokia phone that supports Push to talk option and supports Nextel Direct Connect network(USA). I could not find any information on the web and it turns out that some phones can even be upgraded with PTT.
Thanks and Happy new Year !

Mapping solves the problem. Groupwise has no corresponding field for "Direct Connect". For ease of data entry, I mapped the Direct Connect field in my 8350i with the pager field in my groupwise address books. The BB desktop manager now syncs the nextel direct connect #'s.
    The steps are:
In BB desk top manager, select Sync Configuration; address book; advanced; Field Mapping (at bottom of list). Map an unused field in the GW address book with the direct connect field in the 8350i.
I assumethis would also work with outlook and others.

Problems setting up my TC. Have just bought new iMac(OS 10.6.8) and  TC. I tried to set it up. iMac cannot find it. I have tried direct connection with an ethernet cable to Mac or direct to my wireless router but nothing. Just a flashing orange light. Help for a simpleton please. Have tried reseting TC, but to no avail.

Just updated from 10.6.7 ---> 10.6.8 and had the same issue. Despite having done a clean install from 10.6 and got everything back off my TC, now Time Machine can't find it!
Green light is on, ethernet cable conected, network CP says its conected but nothing. Airport Utility can't find it. Hit reset button, Orange flashing light but still no show in Airport Utility.
But I know its there, as rebooting from 10.6 SL disk shows the backups are still ok?
    Hmm, ideas anyone?

  • Problem printing from Win 7 PC to AE Base Station connected Network Printer

Hi, i have an AE 802.11g version 5.7 software with an IP4800 canon printer attached via USB.
i can print perfecrtly to it from both my macs (G5 desktop and Intel laptop) running 10.5.8.
recently i connected my girl's Vaio laptop running Windows 7 and it works fine for connecting to the internet but i CANNOT for the life of me figure out how to get the network printing working. we installed the latest drivers for the canon on her PC and downloaded and installed Bonjour for WIndows version 2.02 (link here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL999) The printer is even "seen" on her PC, shows up with a green arrow and the base station is identified, but everytime we try and print we end up with a "error printing document" message after a minute or so.
i have gone into the prefs and we have enabled the UDP port "5353" just in case her MacAffee or the firewall was the issue. this has not worked either. i have tried the solution proposed by a user on this link (http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/177086-fixed-problems-wireless-printi ng-over-airport-extreme.html) and that has not worked either.
i have spent over 2 hours on this and am at an end to what else could work. Is there a solution? Can anyone help?
thx in advance for your feedback!

I have follwed the instructions provided in the html link but I still can not get my Lexmark 5470 to print. I even tried to add a printer using CUPS but that is not working either. Printer works great on the Mac and it will print if directly connected to the PC. I can not get it to print over my wireless network. Any suggestions are appreciated.

It turned out that WD is the big bad guy in this game.
According the data rescue company where I asked for an inspection, both of the drives had their reader head loose. And in the one, which was my already-in-use disk its even damaged the platters... xxxxx
So its time to pay bunch of money to recover, and take a walk to wd service to bang on the desk.
Also note - it may be somehow related to intellispeed technology - since macs not really friendly with wd-s built-in solutions.
On the other hand, with WD GP 1Tb there is no problems at all for ages.

  • Moving Time Machine Drive from Direct Connect to Network Share

I have a 1 TB external USB 2 drive I use for my Time Machine backup. I'd like to move that drive to a file server and continue backing up to it. The problem appears to be that when backing up to the drive as a network volume, Time Machine wants to create a new sparsebundle for the backup and not use the existing TM backup folder on the drive.
Is it possible to migrate a Time Machine drive from direct connect to network while preserving the backed up data? Thanks!

Depending on what "file server" you're using, that may or may not work reliably. Here's the criteria they must meet: Disks that can be used with Time Machine. And be careful here: just because some 3rd-party hardware claims to support Time Machine doesn't necessarily mean that Apple supports it, or that it will work in all circumstances.

    That's correct.

  • L7680 Can't connect via Network works fine direct connected via USB Please Help!

    Greetings All,
I have an HP L7680 that has been having this same problem since I purchased it and the only cure that has ever worked is to completley reload Windows XP and start over which I am very tired of reloading XP to resolve a printer problem.
This has been posted by several other people but I don't see where anyone has posted a fix.
When I first install the printer everything usualy works fine and it runs fine for a few mionths. Then the first indicatrion of a problem is the scanner quits working. Then when I try to reinstall the software the printer does not show up.  I read and tried every solution and have spent nuerous hours with HP support to no avail.
The printer works fine direct connected via a USB cable and it works fine with two other computers on the same network. One of the other computers has the exact same OS and is the same HP model laptop.
I don't think the uninstall is completley removing all the files or reinstalling everything fresh when I reload. I have tried the Level 1 through 4 uninstall utility posted on HP's site and have tried all sugestions posted in this forum.
Below is a better rundown of the problem.
When the Scan function is called, a "Scanning" window appears, and hangs
I have an HP Laptop with XP32 Bit software
Once the scanning window appears it stays there forever
Only way to clear scanning page is to terminate hpoews01.exe with Task Manager
Scanner does not show up in Paint or Photoshop ect.
Web Scan Does work and printer shows up using IP address.
Scanner shows up fine on a web page
HP support in India has been no help and now my printer is out of warranty so even less help
    Thank you,
    Dave

I had a similar problem with my OfficeJet L7680 and here's how I fixed it.
    18APR10 - from Dan
I lost my L7680 network link (using CAT5 from printer to router) and could not print to it over the network.  However, I could print from a PC with a USB cable directly to the printer, but there are currently three PCs connected wireless to the network.  I think I have a viable solution for anyone with the same problem and is not related to the operating system of the PCs.
Originally, I went to the HP site and downloaded the program for the L7680, Critical Update to Enhance Reliability of Network and USB Connectivity and Improve System Responsive....  This worked wonders until my modem and/or router went down.  I could see ink levels from my PC, scan, print, and so on.  Then I somehow lost my network connection again.  When I checked the network settings on the L7680 printer panel (Setup, 5 - Network, 1 - View Network Settings, 2 - Display Wired Settings), I noticed a different IP address than the original 192.168.1.100.  Once I figured out how to reset the printer to that one, it connected and worked as it should.
Here's how to reset it:  1.  Power down all devices (wired and wireless) to the router (I even disconnected the printer power cord and CAT5 cable at the printer); 2. Power down the modem and router - wait a minute or so before powering back up;  3.  Power up the modem and give it a minute or so to go through system checks, which will normally acquire a new IP address from your ISP;  4. Power up the router and let it go through its system checks; 5.  Connect the CAT5 cable from the printer to the router and power it up before you power up and connect any other computers.  This should assign the printer the first IP address from the router, which should be 192.168.1.100.  Once the printer goes through its start-up checks, you can check its assigned IP address from its panel.  6.  Power up any other PCs or devices to the router.  They should be assigned successive IP address numbers from the router.  You can check these using a browser in the PC after typing in 192.168.1.1, logging in to the router, and checking the appropriate place in the router driver/software displayed in the browser.  I was not able to reassign IP addresses in my router's driver/software to individual devices, but this method did the trick.  I did not try to change the IP address of the printer from its panel to match what had been inadvertently reassigned to it.  That might be another option to synchronize the printer and router with the same IP address.  If the printer loses its connection again, you'll have to synchronize what the printer has with what the router shows.  This worked for me.

  • TS1398 I have an iPad mini, because of my work network firewalls I am not able to use the airprint function to print. I was told you can direct connect to a printer. I am not sure how as I have not seen any cables for a lightning connection to a printer c

I have an iPad mini, I am connected to my work wireless connection. My printer also is on the same wireless network, however I am not able to print to my airprint enabled printer through this wireless connection. Is there a way to direct connect to the printer via a cable ?
I am missing something here on the connection. I am thinking possibly a firewall here at work will not allow me to use the airprint function. Help ?

There is no support for wired printing.
It is probably a firewall issue, possibly where all inbound communications are blocked. Since you're at work, I'd call your work IT department and find out from them what you can/can't do.

  • Hyper-V 2012 R2. RemoteFx. "The remote session was disconnected because there were network problems during the licensing protocol. Please try connecting to the remote computer again."

After a Installation from Windows 8.1/windows 7 everything works fine. For example  Install updates and Software. If I connect the first time a remotefx card i can use RDP as well. But if i restart the host I get the mentioned error. What can I do. These
Hosts are not in a domain configuration. I tried it too but there was  no difference. I didn't discovered any errors in the eventlog, too. Only an actviex error. But same errors occurs with a succsefull rdp session.
Also strange is if i start the vm without a remotefx card it works fine again. Only session with a Remotefx card aren't possible anymore.
Is there a bug or something. I tried it many times with the same error.
    Maybe someone can help me.
    kind regards

    Hi Tobi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
For a workaround, please try to perform the two steps.
    1. Do NOT enable RDP 8 on the Windows 7 SP1 VM.  You should install RDP 8 and update the ICs though.
    2. Change the connection setting on the client from "Automatically detect" to "LAN"
Please check again below thread for information.
    a. "The remote session was disconnected
because there were network problems during the licensing protocol" after enabling RemoteFX Windows 8 VM
    (Please recheck answer by “dgeddes”)
    b. "The remote session
was disconnected because there were network problems during the licensing protocol" After Installing RemoteFX
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks,

  • Direct-connect inside network with dynamically assigned IP-addresses

I have 13+GiB of files to transfer between two computers (one arch and one Win7) and would rather not spend the day moving them ~1GiB at a time via flashdrives.
I have tried setting up an ad-hoc network on the win7 machine, but wifi-menu fails to connect to it.
I have tried setting up an ssh server on the arch machine and accessing it via PuTTY on the Win7 machine.
I have tried setting up an apache server on the arch machine and accessing it via firefox on the Win7 machine.
I do not have the permissions to statically assign ip addresses on the network, and need to somehow directly connect between these two computers.  Any suggestions?

Post the exact commands that you are using and the exact error messages that you receive.
For mounting windows shares I use variations of the following command:
    mount -t cifs //<windows ip address or host name>/<windows share name> /mnt/foo -o nosetuids,uid=<your local user id>,gid=<your local group id>,user=<windows user name>,workgroup=<windows workgroup>
Have you tried something similar? It should "just work".
