Direct Digital Output through Quicktime?

I've used iTunes for years (ever since my first iPod) and I've never had a problem with it. However two years ago I got a HiFi receiver. Nothing fancy or anything, but ever since I've been wondering if I could some how bypass my soundcard's DAC and get iTunes (through Quicktime? I'm assuming iTunes uses Quicktime to decode audio. If I'm wrong could someone please move this thread to the iTunes for Windows sub-forum?) to output directly to PCM through S/PDIF? My soundcard has the ports (both coaxial and Toslink), but the only way that I've so far found to do this is either with an Airport Express (which is pretty much $100 to connect my HiFi which is 2m away from my computer, although currently this is pretty much my only option) or through the 3rd party plugin, multi-plugin (and foobar 2000). Unfortunately multi-plugin doesn't support a version of iTunes that will support my iPod.
Does anybody know of any other way to get iTunes/Quicktime to output PCM directly and bypass my soundcard's DAC? I can get it to pass it to the soundcard, have the soundcard decode it and recode it to PCM/AC3, but that's basically going from digital to analogue to digital again which is a lossy conversion. 3rd party plugins are fine as long as they work with iTunes 7.4 or newer.
Plugging my iPod into the HiFi is not desirable as I would like to control the music from the computer.
Thank you for reading.

Anybody? Are there any 3rd party plugins for iTunes/Quicktime that I haven't heard of?

  • Is it possible with cDAQ to output PWM-Signal and Digital lines through same module?

    Hello
I try to output a digital line and a PWM signal through one 9401 module. I use it for actuator control with PWm = speed and digital hig/low = direction.
In LV, I set up cDAQ/_ctr1, then use channel property outport to set it to e.g. cDAQ/module9401/PFI0.
But when I start a second task to use PFI1 as digital output on the same module, the vi fails with timeout error.
Is simultaneous useage possible or will I have to use 2 modules
    Thanks for your insights.

  • Coaxial Digital Output on TV to SB Audigy 2 Val

I have the Creative SB Audigy 2 Value card installed on my computer and the Altec Lansing GT505 surround 5. speaker system. I also have a Toshiba MD4FP DVD/TV combo. My speakers can only be connected using th standard red and white RCA plugs. My TV has a Coaxial Digital Output jack on the back and red/white/yellow plugs on the front that are used by my PS2. I understand the speakers cannot be connected directly to the TV unless I use the headphone jack but when i try that it sounds bac and I get sound out of only 2 speakers. Is there a way to connect a coaxial audio cable from my soundcard (i think it has the digital jack) to the Coaxial digital output on my tv? Will that give me the ability to play my TV through my speakers?

  • How to read back the output state for digital output or anlog output ?

I use NI-pci 6221(68PIN) Accquistion card to do measurmet, after i do digital output ,or anlog output ,I find that the output will be maitained by the card.even after i exit my accquistion program. But if i reset the card ,the ouptut also will be reset.
Now if i don't reset the card ,how can i read back the output state,?

    Hi Mike,
There is no way for you to internally route an analog output to an analog input. The only solution is to physically connect the two lines together with a wire.
I came to this conclusion through the following steps:
1- Start MAX and select the DAQmx device under "Devices and Interfaces>>NI-DAQmx Devices" that you want to internally route signals through.
2- Click on the "Device Routes" tab on the bottom of the right hand window (It defaults to the "Attributes" tab)
3- Line up the Source with the Destination to see if the connection can be internally routed (either direct or indirect)
I came to the above conclusion by following these steps for a PCI-6251 DAQ device (the analog output & input do not exist in the "Device Routes" tab therefore they do not support internal routing), but you should verify this for your specific hardware. Let me know if you have any other questions/concerns.

  • How do I control a digital output on NI9144 FPGA with fpga code running on NI9082.

Due to a recent change in our hardware configuration I need to locate my various I/O modules in various locations around the facility. I am attempting to use an etherCAT setup consisting of an NI9082 and multiple NI9144 (for now only one NI9144). I need both devices to run code in the respective FPGA and make the results available to the other devices and for user interface software. My question is is it possible for the two FPGA code segments to communicate directly with each other without going through the RT or computer interfaces. I need to fire a digital output bit on the NI9144 based on logic running on the NI9082.
Are there any good code examples around that someone can point me to?
    Thanks for the help.

Hi, you can include trigger conditions (digital, or analog) on your FPGA VI and connect directly the I/O from module to module (analog with analog & digital with digital), however, if the chassis are meant to be at different locations the cable used to connect the ports is equals the length in between each device and that could degrade the signal if we are taking about a couple meters or kilometers. The most reasonable way to send/receive data from great distances is through ethernet using a regular communication protocol (such as TCP/IP, network streams, network shared variables...etc).

  • 1820M digital inputs don't work with cable box, receiver digital outputs?

I just installed an 1820M on an XP-Pro machine (AMD 3800+ X2). Downloaded the optical and coax loopback tests and they work fine. But I can't get it to take digital input from either my Comcast HD-DVR or my Denon AVR-1907 receiver. I know the Comcast DVR digital outputs work - they worked with my receiver and with my old Logitech 5300s.
I've tried everything I can think of:
    - take external sync from S/PDIF
    - set the optical to ADAT so it doesn't mess up the coax s/pdif input
This seems like such an obvious application. Has anyone gotten it to work?
    Thanks

This is my point - the currently active channel does not produce sound through its multiple outputs unless Logic is playing.
So, for example, if I am auditioning different drum grooves from RMX through the multiple outputs (for the purpose of putting effects/processors on the outputs in Logic) this only works when Logic is playing.
Or if, in BFD, I have the direct Snare coming out of one output into an aux, and then a direct Kick coming out and output into another aux, I cannot hear them unless Logic is playing - I can only hear the ambient mic's as these are mapped to Outputs 1-2 which are the initial track you set the multiple output AU up on.
If none of this is something you tend to do, I guess it's hard to understand!
    Thanks,
    Alex.

  • How do I Ensure that your MOV/MP4 video is exported through QuickTime conversion?

I have a YouTube channel. I use Sony Vegas to render my mp4 projects, but my PC uses QuickTime & I'm VERY unfamiliar with it and/or how it works, how to access it. When I record a mp4 video, QuickTime needs to be involved, but I'm unsure how to even check or know where to go, to find out how to do that. I need ensure my mp4 video is exported through QuickTime conversion. I have no idea what it even means? Does anyone out there happen to have the knowledge I would need to check if in fact the video is being exported through QuickTime conversion? If so, I WOULD FOREVER BE IN DEBT TO YOU! I hope someone can help me figure this problem out. Thanks for taking the time to view my question, and if anyone does know, I'd greatly accept your advice! Thank you very much again!

    Hello,
You can do this:  Set up a slow pulse train for CTR0 (1Hz).  Set up a continuous digital channel read for Port 0 Line 0 on your card.  Hook up CTR0 output (pin 5) to P0.0 (pin 10).  Start your program to do the counter output pulse train and continuous read.  You should see your digital line transition from high to low over time.  The examples you can use to set this up are Gen Dig Pulse Train-Continuous.vi and Cont Read Dig Chan-Int Clk.vi.  For Cont Read Dig Chan-Int Clk.vi, remove the DAQmx Timing VI to make it software timed, and connect the task handle and error wires accordingly. They can be ran from separate VI's as they don't use the same resources.
To be exact on the verbage used, you can perform a self-test on the device by right clicking the device in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and select Self-Test.  As for testing the device manually, go with what I described above.

  • HT5783 My MacBook Pro (Mid-2009) digital output has stopped working. It turns on the red light at the other side of the plug, but fails to connect with my receiver. Output from Airport works fine.

It was working fine until now, and now suddenly, the sound is gone. I've tried PRAM and SMC reset. Nothing works.
Using the same cable with my airport express, through airplay, the sound comes out fine.
It wasn't working when on Mavericks, nor now, on Yosemite.

    Hey marcalc,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with the digital output of your MacBook Pro. The following resource may provide a solution:
OS X Mavericks: If you can’t hear sound from your speakers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13841
If you’re trying to listen through a digital receiver
If you’re using your computer’s digital output port (not available on all computers), choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Sound, then click Output. Make sure Digital Output is selected.
Make sure your computer is connected to a digital-ready receiver using an optical digital cable, and that your receiver is set up for digital input (see the information that came with your receiver).
Try adjusting the volume on your receiver. You can’t use the computer’s volume controls to adjust the volume while using digital output.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Digital Output Stopped Working

My new 1.66 Intel Core Duo Mini has been flawlessly passing digital audio to my receiver from VLC and EyeTV for close to a week. But I played a DVD for the first time today with Front Row and ran into a huge problem.
While there was no trouble playing Dolby Digital from Front Row, now I can't get any sound through the digital output outside of Front Row. VLC is silent and EyeTV needs to manually change over to "system sound output" for anything to get through. And then it's in stereo, despite Dolby Digital showing up as the soundtrack in EyeTV.
I combed this forum but couldn't find this specific problem. I saw someone recommended flashing the nvram as a possible solution to problems with the digital output but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas.
1.66 Intel Core Duo 1GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

On a somewhat related issue: My Mac Mini 2007 won't output audio, via toslink mini adapter. It shows up in the Midi output as working and I see the red light from the cable. But when I put in a regular mini audio cable, and "move it around" in the headphone slot I get sound if it's just in the right place. Is this some sort of short in the headphone jack inside the Mini? Does this need to be replaced or is there an easier solution? Comments appreciated!

  • How do I keep a digital output from SCC DO01 from fluctuating states?

Background: Hooking an ohm-meter across a digital output from a SCC DO01 isolated optical switch shows that the resistance fluctuates and at times goes open circuit. It appears directly related to the LabView code where I'm writing to this digital line within a WHILE loop. The loop has a variety of other operations going on. These other operations, I believe, are causing this problem due to timing or something.
How can I improve the reliability of this digital output? There must be some method of establishing priority within a WHILE loop.
    Really appreciate the help.
    Hunter

    Howdy, Justin
    Thanks for your reply.
I've actually been connecting the meter across Vss and Vout. Actuating the digital output, I can see the state of the switch. Attached is the VI which involves this DO01, specifically, it's associated with the VFD RUN/STOP.
Since I sent this question out, I've actually gotten some help from Andy Watchorn of NI. This switch holds state much better.
    All the best,
    Hunter

  • Improper cuts appearing in my final output with Quicktime

Hi everyone. I've been struggling to output what, in my opinion, is a fairly simple project I've edited from an old home video (originally shot on miniDV). It's mostly just cuts and some simple text titles. Forgive me for some ignorance regarding Final Cut Pro; I've used it for a while now, but not terribly in depth.
It's a little hard for me to describe this since I lack a lot of technical terms but here goes: Every time I output my final project, certain shots begin with a single frame that is dissolving over the previous frame from the raw footage. In other words, there is a frame that does not belong, overlaying the first frame of the shot. Sometimes it's difficult to notice in real time, but at other points it looks absolutely horrible. This is supposed to be a gift for a friend, and I really just want the cuts to look normal.
A couple bits of information. First of all, not every shot starts this way. Only certain ones - always the same ones as far as I can tell. I was first outputting using Compressor, since my ultimate goal is to burn the video onto a DVD. I then tried outputting using Quicktime Conversion to H.26, PNG and Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2, all of which suffered from the same problem. My first theory was that it could be an interlacing issue, since the offending frame appeared to be interlaced perfectly with the previous frame in the raw footage. However, after checking "de-interlace source video" during my output to Uncompressed 10-bit, the result was simply a blurrier dissolve between the two images.
I've tried deleting all of my render files and outputting again, but that has not worked. I viewed the raw video in my capture scratch folder to make sure that there wasn't some kind of frame overlap to begin with, but there wasn't. The video looks totally fine in my timeline, and all I want is for my output to replicate that. The only thing left I can think of doing is going shot by shot and cutting out frames in my timeline, which will take an extraordinary amount of time, not to mention the fact that I'd have to output all of my videos, slow down each and every cut, and find the bad frames that I haven't noticed yet.
I refuse to believe that there's no way for Final Cut Pro to output these videos properly, but I certainly haven't found it yet. Hopefully someone out there has some experience with this problem or can at least venture a guess as to how to fix it, since I'm all out. Thanks for any suggestions you can offer!
    - Joe

@Jim Cookman: If that's true that would really suck. You're absolutely right, those offending shots don't have handles (so far I've only noticed it with regards to in-points, not out-points) But the thing is, I'm not doing any transitions with those shots. They're just simple cuts. I don't see why Final Cut Pro can't output a cut at the frame I want it to cut at. The problem is that the video I'm editing is home video with very short shots and people's phrases being cutoff. It wasn't shot with editing in mind. Nevertheless, I've had handles where I put dissolves and whatnot, I just don't have them here. It's not like I'm unwilling to trim one or two frames here or there, but the real issue is that it would be a crazy amount of work, especially after everything I've already done to get the timeline just how I want it. There is some music and effects, and there are a lot of cuts; going through every one of them would be very difficult.
So I guess with regards to handles, the question is: is there any way to select a clip, or set of clips in a timeline, and have FCP automatically trim the first and last frames, while simultaneously adjusting music, etc.? If so, then that may very well solve the problem. But if not, well, then I have a lot of work ahead of me... Thre's always next year!
Anyway, I appreciate both of your inputs. Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

  • How to use Digital output to turn on sensor for Analog Input?

I am trying to use a digital output to turn on an array of sensors that I then wish to read on 16 analog input lines. I have a 6024E DAQ card. I am planning to take data at 10-20 hz, so not terribly fast, but I will be acquiring for long periods of time (days) so I will be streaming data to disk.
I have a fair bit of experience in Labview basics, but can quickly get out of my depth when I try something new (like this). I have V6.01.
It looks as though the best way might be to do the DO and then a single AI as individual events, then write to disk and continue through the loop. I am puzzled, however, how to keep this cycle on schedule given that I don't know how long it will take to sample 16 channels
, write the data to disk and get back to the starting point... perhaps this is so fast that I don't need to worry about it? The actual timing of the samples (be it 10 or 20 hz) isn't too critical, as long as I can record at what time they were taken... it would be frustrating to find that I was several seconds off after days of data.

    Hello,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments.
If you are worried about the time of your acquisition being off, then you should associate each voltage measurement with a timestamp. This will allow you to know the exact time at which the sample was taken and you will never be off. You can use the Get Date/Time in Seconds.vi in our while loop with your AI code so that you can read a sample and read the time. You can than log the voltage value and the timestamp to your file.

  • No digital output OSX.8.3

I cannot get digital optical output in OSX.8.3 to work. I t is listed as an option in the system forlder, sound, but does not connect when I select it. I have four otions in the output system preferences: Stereo Line-out (rear Green)- this one works with the three plugs-tellow, black, white. The other options are as follows and none of them work: Stereo Headphones (front Green); Digital SPDIF-Out (CD); Digital SPDIF-Out (rear Orange). I am running the sound through a Logitech Z5500. Works with Windows 7 when connecting with digital optical and the LG TV that I have also works with digital optical through the Logitech system. So I know it is not the Logitech system problem. It is the MAC OS. Any suggestions to get this digital Optical output to work in OSX.8.3?

i installed the latest ac97 drivers from msi but nothing helped.

    Hi,
Can you describe what did you do "before" and "after" the problem occured? Sounded like
before - no Yamaha speakers, no Win2k reinstallation
after - Win2k reinstallation, with Yamaha speakers
Or before and after (win2k installation) you have tested your Yamaha speakers and it worked?
What if you use analog output, does it sound?
If analog sound, then probably you have to check the AC'97 and Volume settings, such as to enable Digital-output etc.
