Direct ethernet to NAS and using wireless at the same time

Hello,
I just picked up a Synology DS211 NAS and have been using my roommates' wireless router to connect to my 15" MBP unibody (OSX 10.6.5) and it's been working just fine but I need a faster connection to the NAS for the work that I do. I successfully got the NAS to connect directly to the MBP through ethernet but I lost my wireless connection to the router. I can't seem to get both to work at the same time and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
Cheers,
Dylan

Don't mean to nitpick but just for those who may get confused that you do not typically want to change the subnet mask. I think what you are referring to is the IPv4 address, but what you are doing by changing the IP address you are creating a static IP address.
If you were changing the subnet you would be changing the one that appears as 255.255.252.0, you can change these settings to have certain computers to connect to different groups, a commonly used way to organize computers on larger networks.
Sorry just wanted to clarify, you want to create a "static IP address."

    Only in FCP 7.

  • Can I use BOTH Verizon DSL Wireless AND DISHnet Wireless at the same time?

Waiting for Dishnet contract to die and rot away but about 2 months to go.  Want to get with Verison Standard DSL Wireless as no data cap tho slower.
I can just wait till Dishnet dies and keep bumping into data caps with the Dish service OR can I get the DSL setup and use one connex for the iMac and one for the iPad without any conflicts?
I am so ignorant of technology that I see a Swing-a-Way hand crank can opener as a marvel of industrial magic,....so please talk simple words to me, :-)
    Thanks

Sign up for the fastest DSL package that you can. Even if the overall speed is slower, the fact that you won't be going over a satellite connection anymore should make the Internet *that* much faster. The Wireless Gateway should come included.
You can use both services at once, although note that determining how you plan to use both at the same time is going to be another story. Some people use Dual WAN routers (as in, routers that accept two Internet connections and can balance between the two). Others will use the connections separately, by moving devices between the two connections as needed.

  • My IPod Touch 4th gen won't charge unless its off when it's on it won't even recognize the charger or indicate it's charging please help me figure out so I can charge and use it at the same time

    Help would be appreciated

The charger yo are using does not supply enough power to both charge the iPod and power a working iPod at the same times.
Not the wall you plug the wall charger into if you are using a wall charger.
Have you tried another charging source?
I would also try another cable.

  • Streaming from Macbook Pro and using it at the same time?

Haven't decided yet if I'm going to buy the Apple TV or not, and I still have a few questions in the back of my mind. The biggest one being if I am streaming a movie from my MacBook Pro, does it still function regularly as a laptop or do I have to stop using it during the duration of the stream? I like to be able to work and watch movies or TV at the same time, and this is going to be a big deciding factor if I get one or not. Can anyone help? Thanks!

if I am streaming a movie from my MacBook Pro, does it still function regularly as a laptop
It does indeed. In fact when you use it, you probably wont even notice your computer is streaming content to the Apple TV.

  • Process audio and use midi at the same time?

I would like to use Mainstage to process my vibraphone and acoustic percussion while also using software instruments with a MalletKat and audio playback for backing tracks all at the same time. Is this possible? I have a 17" Mac Book Pro with 4 GB Ram and 2.66 speed.

    Absolutely....
Create audio channels for the "live stuff", Instrument channels for the MIDI stuff, and use Playback for the backing tracks.

  • Can't print to ethernet and use airport at the same time

I have a Kyocera 6950 printer connected to my Powerbook via ethernet, this works fine (using bonjour). However as soon as I switch airport on and connect to a wireless network, jobs no longer goes to the printer and the Powerbook reports it can't find the printer.
    So far I have tried:
    1. changing the service order in the network control panel
    2. deleting the printer and re-creating it, I can see the printer (via bonjour) and re-create it, but still not print to it.
This has happened at several different locations, anybody else had this or got any ideas. The problem started with Snow Leopard
    Many thanks

    Thanks Greg,
I was wondering if maybe it needed to be on another subnet but there seems little information regarding setting up PostScript printers on ethernet and it was very late so I'd given up messing around with it all last night. I've got most addresses set manually, apart from Airport which is assigned by the router with different addresses permanently allocated to different computers etc. Not to worry! I have a Time Capsule to set up with my new Mac and will try with the printer attached to that. The silly thing is that it works fine with Airport switched on when attached to my older Mac Mini running Leopard, both direct through that computer or accessed from another one.
Can't have printers attached to my router as there's no room for them in the hallway where the router is connected to the internet. Some experimentation is in order now I think!

  • Can't play DVD and use Spotlight at the same time.

I have been running in to all sorts of problems while playing a DVD. I have TV shows on DVD, so I watch them while I work. Everytime I have one playing and I open Spotlight to search for something my PB begins making this very loud noise. I don't know if it is my DVD player or something else, but as soon as I delete what is was I was searching for in Sportlight, it stops. It really bugs hearing this noise, because it sounds like something is wrong. If anybody can help, that would be great.

Oh sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear.
I have noticed that when you ask the optical drive to do one thing, it spins perfectly well and does what it is supposed to.
If however you ask it do a second thing while it is still doing the first, then the laser skips between the two jobs and sounds strange.
So... If you had a dvd or cd with 2 large files on it and
    a) Selected BOTH files together and copied them to the desktop, the drive would spin fast and transfer the files.
    b) Selected one file to copy and started the transfer to the desktop, THEN while the first was copying, selected a SECOND file from the DVD and started copying that, you would find the laser skipping between the two jobs.
I thought that if you do this, and it is the same as what happens when watching a dvd and using spotlight, then it could be that spotlight is indexing the dvd while it is playing and the drive is therefore trying to do two things at once.
    I hope that helps.

  • Any ideas how to play iPad music via tv and use ipad at the same time?

I am using ArkMC app to play music from my iPad on my sony bravia tv. But when I come out of the app to say use safari, the music stops streaming. I really want to play music and use my iPad together. Any ideas?.

the app have to support background play or when one move on it will stop playing
if you use an appletv you can use airplay but it will not just play the music it will play any sound your ipad would otherwise play so if you start the music and expect to be able to play a game on the ipad while the music play you will be disappointed

  • Cant add files and use itunes at the same time?

I am totally confused as to why Itunes is Frozen when im adding files. I usually manually add my music to itunes myself. I figured why not take advantage and just have it do it for me. Now i cant play or pause the music as its doing this. The main problem is that the folder of music that i added, has all my itunes files on that drive in that folder. Is it going to add everything i have twice now? its telling me new versions of apps are available. I have 600+ apps. Im starting to realise that there is no work around for this. perhaps this belongs in a suggestion thread. sorry for ranting. delete this post its looking like i have to force itunes closed and ruin everything that i have organised so i dont have to tell itunes 600 times that i dont want to find the new version of an app. I've already been fooled into recrediting all my downloads because Everyone wanted to play stupid on the phone. GOD HELP ME!

Say i finish clicing x 600 times. Is there a way to stop the music after it resumes searching my 111 gb of music. i dont want to play the same cd the whole time.

  • Can I use HP Pro 8600 with usb and wireless at the same time

Can I use HP Pro 8600 with usb and wireless at the same time?  Sometimes I cannot get the wireless to work, it seems to be my laptop.  It would be nice if I could use the usb, but it doesn't work.  What should / can I do, if anything?
    Sam

    Hi,
Same physical printer but when connecting to SAME computer using both USB and wireless it becomes two (logical) printers. Probably your default prnter is the wireless one, you have to select the right printer before print .

  • Airport extreme wired AND wireless at the same time?

Very sorry for this newbie question. Can i have my iMac wired to my computer with ethernet and wireless at the same time?
If so, what ports to i plug what into?
My guess is modem-wan port on extreme and a cable going wired from the ethernet port on the extreme to the iMac?
Do i need to do any configuring?
    Thanks!

The operatibe word here is EXPRESS
To the best of my knowledge the ethernet port on the express is for ethernet IN not out
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/AirPortExpressSetupGuide.pdf The pertinent diagrams are like page 20 - 25
Now you can actually do what you are talking about with an extreme.. an extreme can, in theorey operate as an remote/relay taking incoming signal giving you one - four out bound ethernet ports
that info can be found in the manual on setting up a WDS
the only thing to remember is .. the weakest leg controls.. if your wireless signal to the relay is poor. any thing using the relay for access will also be poor
I have found out the hard way about that
hey you can get good price on bulk cat 5

  • Can you use Time Capsule on a windows and 2 macs at the same time.

Can you use Time Capsule on a windows and 2 macs at the same time as either a backup for one and a seperate HD drive for two?

    Yes.
From one viewpoint the Time Capsule is just NAS (Networked Attached Storage) and it supports the file sharing protocols necessary for both Windows and Macs.
From the viewpoint of the Macs it can also be used by Time Machine for backups.
As NAS it can be used for storing files, and there are many backup software packages that support NAS on both Windows and Macs.
In addition from a networking point of view it can serve as a router, wireless access point etc.

  • How can i connect to a LAN and external display at the same time using the mini-displayport?

    Hi all,
At work i'm connected to the Lan via an adapter and the mini displayport. I want to use my external display at the same time, which use the same mini displayport. Are there any splitters available to use both at the same time? Are there any other alternatives?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

There are USB to ethernet dongles:

I am using several Macs running Yosemite. I was recently “upgraded” to Xfinity’s new cable modem which can support both 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz networks at the same time. Actually I can connect to the internet over both with a satisfactory bump in speed for the Ghz. However when I connect to the 5Ghz the Time capsule disappears from the Airport Utility and claims to be Not Found. Is there something I have done wrong or just a Yosemite Teething Problem

First restart your mac and try again.
    It could be
that the router and the TC are interfering wirelessly with each other.
You can check this by pressing the option key while clicking on the wireless icon on your screen
    Open Wireless Diagnostics
    enter your user password
    Press CMD 4 then Scan
You will see all the wireless channels being used in your location and you can check if they are on the same channel
Make the SSID for the TC simple like MyTC
    Set 5Ghz to auto
    Update the TC
    Try again
