Direct-to-disc CD recorder?

A few years ago, I took voice lessons from a woman who had one of these. Built-in mic, no computer necessary. At the beginning of each lesson, she would put in a blank CD (regular sized, not mini-disc) and push record. At the end of the lesson, she took the CD out and gave it to me to practice with. It was automatically split into 5-minute tracks and could be played in any CD player.
Now I'm a voice teacher myself, and I would like to get one of these gadgets, but I can't seem to find the right search terms. Do they even exist anymore? When I enter "CD recorder" or "CD voice recorder" into a search engine, I just get machines that record pre-existing CDs or digital voice recorders.

They probably exist still, but as a VERY niche item.  Standalone CD recorders always had the annoying disadvantage in that they were classified as recording devices under the Audio Home Recording Act (AHRA), and as a result media for them was taxed as such.  (The only difference between "Music" CD-Rs and data CD-Rs was a bit that said "I've been taxed under the AHRA!" - standalone recorders will refuse to record if they don't see that flag.)  Even if you could find such a recorder, finding media would be difficult.
PC CD-R drives weren't subject to the AHRA, even though they were fully capable of recording audio CDs.
In this era of email and solid state MP3 players - Audio CDs are themselves becoming a niche product.  You might want to update your approach to adapt to modern times - Use a standalone solid state recorder (I have heard many good things about the Zoom H1 and Zoom's higher-end products) and email the MP3s to your students as one example of a more modern approach.

  • I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic but Logic won't send midi data out to the MOTU Traveller to the Piano Disc player

    Hello All,
    I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic Pro 9.1.8  but Logic won't send the midi data back out to the MOTU Traveller and thus to the Piano Disc player. I got it to playback one time but have no idea how and when it did it was looping or something because the velocity was way high coming back in and the damper pedal was slamming down. When I play a key on the piano the midi "in" light on the Traveller lights up. When I play the track back on my computer no lights blink on the Traveller and when I did the apple midi studio test in utilities when I play a key I get the confirmation signal noise and the Traveller blinks when I click on the down arrow of the Traveller in the Apple midi studio test the midi out light on the traveller never lights and the signal light on the piano does not blink either. No outbound signal at all...
    I have messed with every possible parameter I can find and and have had help from one of Piano Disc's premier editors but no luck. The piano was prepped for me on Logic so it would work with my studio.  I'm positive it's my fault and I'm overlooking something really simple and stupid but what!??!
    Somebody please help.  Thank you all in advance for ANY ideas you might have!

    Blues Piano,
    I'm not sure if this will be a help or not.  I'm so Logic Pro wet behind the ears that I make newbies look experienced.  However, I'm not expecting many on the Apple support forums have a PianoDisc system, much less one with the new optical record strip.  While I don't have any record strip on my PianoDisc, I do have a PianoDisc iQ that's only a month old.  I've been playing converted paper scrolls from hundred year old player pianos through it via the MIDI in port of the PianoDisc CPU.  I've found I have to open the MIDI file in Logic Pro (10.0.4) then go to <Track><New External MIDI Track> then copy the existing track to that new external track.  Only then can I see in the Track inspector (defaults left side of screen with the Icon for the instrument) the "Port" parameter.  Then I can select my external MIDI device in that Port selector.
    I've also encountered problems with the PianoDisc not using enough force on the notes or using too much force.  To get around this problem, until I understand Logic better, I've been setting minimum and maximum volicities.  To do that I right click on the track and select "Select All."  Then I right click again and select "MIDI" then "MIDI Transform"  then "Velocity Limiter."  In the resulting pop up window in the center is a drop down and you can play with the velocity from "MIN" to "MAX" along with "ADD" "SUBTRACT" etc.
    I hope this helps.  I envy you your Mason & Hamlin.  If you need more help on this just email me at pfleischmann at mac dot com.

    How do i get passed choose a menue,I have finished editing rendering unable to go to Burn directly to disc, Help would be appreciated, thank you Gordon

    Thanks for the additional information.
    After you have your Timeline content ready for export with destination burn to disc, if you do not go to Tools Menu/Movie Menu to apply disc menus and you go instead directly to Publish+Share/Disc, you will get an automatic message for a Yes or No answer with regard to disc menus.
    If you do not want menus, then just click No and you should next see the following
    where you make your burn to choice.
    The Yes or No message should be for Publish+Share/Disc and not Publish+Share/Computer.
    You cannot export a file with menus to the hard drive.
    If you went Timeline content, Tools Menu/Movie Menu, and applied a menu, and then decided that you do not want a menu, the go to the top of the Movie Menu customization area and click on Reset, followed by Done. And, then go to Publish+Share/Computer and your choice for the export to file saved to the computer hard drive.
    Please review the above and let us know if you are OK with the above details.
    Thank you.

  • How can I record an audio file directly from a digital recording device directly to the iMac?

    How can I record audio directly to my iMac from a digital recoding device?

    What digital recording device?

  • How can I capture video directly into FCP without recording to tape first?

    I hooked my Sony VX2000 to the computer via firewire and opened the Log and Capture dialog box. The video from my camera shows correctly in the preview window.
    I click the Capture Now button and the capture window opens but no video displayed. The message below the window says "Waiting for Timecode".
    I guess the camera doesn't send timecode when it's not recording so I press the record button. Now video shows up in the capture window. After 16 frames it freezes and an error box pops up that says "Capture Now has reached the end of the tape. All existing footage between the point where you started the capture and the end of the tape was captured successfully."
    Foiled again! This has been a problem from time to time when I want to capture video from a source that does not supply timecode.
    Is there any settings I can change to capture video directly from a camera using FCP without having to record it to tape in one step and then capture it in a second step?
    Thanks,

    I thought I had tried that. Thanks, that was the answer.
    I am aware of the danger of not having tape backup. Having worked with the new Panasonic AG-HVX200 it is a chore to free up the P2 cards fast enough to keep from starving the camera crew. Copying the P2 contents to a single hard drive is the practice but leaves the whole shoot at the mercy of a single point of failure.
    As far as my capturing directly to HD, it isn't a problem for short podcasts that could be recreated quickly if lost. Also, I can still record to tape in the camera but avoid the second step of capture when I'm in my edit bay anyway.
    Peace,

  • Can I plug mic directly into computer to record on GB?

  • Jump directly to the previous record

    Hi Everyone,
    i am using oracle 9i and i have 20,000 records in my table and i have to do some manual changes in my address column. in the meanwhile i sort my data with respect to anyother column, after sort operation, i want to go back to that specific record where i was befroe sort operation. is there any way to get to that record if i didnt remember the idx adn anyother text. My concern is there any current record operation or anyother function which shuld directly take us to that record.
    Best Regards,

    The two biggest performance killers in Oracle in my experience are:
    1. not using bind variables
    2. treating data as records that needs to be processed on a row-by-row basis
    What you describe sounds like #2. Not dealing with data sets, but with records. And doing multiple passes through the table do read and process and then re-process the exact same rows - again.
    I/O is the single most expensive operation on a database computing platform. Why would you want to do multiple I/Os for processing and then re-processing the very same row?
    This row-by-row processing method we used back in the old days (with languages lke Cobol) to open a file (or magnetic tape), read a record, process a record and repeat. Often with control breaks (a concept lost on many programmers today), writing new records to a new tape.
    This is a very wrong approach in any RDBMS platform.
    The very idea that you want to revisit a row that you already have processed says that there is something wrong with your approach. Says that you are using PL/SQL to process data row-by-row and not using SQL to process it as a data set.
    And this method is an excellent way to kill performance.
    I suggest that you carefully think of what your process needs to do and then determine how to do it correctly in a RDBMS like Oracle - where the resulting code will be performant and will be able to scale with increased data volumes.

  • Burn out .vobs but to hard drive, not directly to disc

    Hello gentlemen,
    I want to test some footage in DVD format, from Premiere, but when you ask Premiere to make a DVD, I have it set to open Encore, but there is no option to create the .vob files and just create them on my hard drive, it wants me to insert a disc to complete the process.
    Is there any way of getting Premiere to create vob files directly to the hard drive directly, so I can burn them out later to disc ?
    Thanks,
    Dave.

    David,
    There are four options to go from PPro to Encore:
    - Export a DV AVI and import in Encore.
    - Export a DVD compliant MPEG-2 file and import in Encore.
    - Select "Export to Encore" in PPro (CS3 only).
    - Or "frameserve" from PPro to Encore: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c05fbd9
    Which option to choose is a matter of personal preference / workflow that suits you best.

  • Does Elements 9 or 10 allow direct to hard drive recording

    Could someone please tell me if Premiere Elements 9 or  10 allows one to hook up a mini dv camera, such as a Canon GL2, and record direct to the hard drive of a Mac?
    Thank you

    If I understand what you are looking to do - real time recording to the computer's HDD, with a direct feed from the camera (not going to tape, or flash memory), then I think that you will need PrPro with the included OnLocation program.
    Now, if I have misunderstood exactly what you want, please ignore the above suggestion.
    Good luck,

  • Importing video recording directly to laptop, WHILST recording

    Hi - is there any way to import what it is that you are recording with a digital video camera directly to your laptop while you are actually recording it, rather than having to do it afterwards?

    I have the same question too. I just did a test and it seems as if you can record with the video camera attached to your computer and set up with iMovie '08. You click the Open Import Window, wait to make sure your camera is recognized in the Camera/Record Mode. Click the Import button, select where you want to save the event. After you click OK, the recording will start. You click Done to stop the recording. I'm still experimenting with it, but that seems to be how it works.

  • ArchISO custom image - copy directly to disc

    Hi all,
    I am creating a custom install disc for my personal laptops so that I can quickly recover without having to remember what I installed, had configured, etc.
    Assuming I have everything configured on the ArchISO that I want in my new system, what is the best way to get that to the hard drive?
    For the install process, I would only want to setup disk encryption and allow the user to configure where the OS is installed.
    Walter

    Hi Markus,
    HOW exactly are you burning the hard drive folder to a DVD disc? If simply burning the VIDEO_TS folder to disc as DATA, that is why it does not work in the DVD player. To be a legal-spec DVD compatible with set-top players, a DVD must be burned as "DVD Video". The files are laid out a certain way on the disc, there is perhaps a flag on the disc indicating that it is "DVD Video", etc.
    Add any DVD-Rom content in Encore, then try building an IMAGE (.iso) file from Encore rather than a "Folder" on the hard drive. Use any burning software that can use an .iso as a source and that will create a proper DVD. Or use a free software such as "ImageBurn" and be sure to choose "DVD Video" when burning the folder to disc if you wish to continue using the folder method. But I don't think you can add more data inside the VIDEO_TS folder once it is on the hard drive, only add content in Encore.
    I believe that VLC Media Player will play .iso file DVDs if memory serves
    Thanks

  • How to call a form so as it starts edit  mode (new record) directly

    Hi,
    I want to call a form from a button so as it starts edit mode directly (for a new record).
    I also want to pass it parameters for the new record
    please help me
    thanks

    Suppose you want to call the form with the ename as CLARK. You can call the form like this:
    <portal_schema>.wwa_app_module.link?p_arg_names=_moduleid&p_arg_values=<module_id of the form>&p_arg_names=ename&p_arg_values=CLARK
    Note that it will not query the database for values unless you pass the argument enamecond as well.

  • Not directed to Interaction Record automatically after confirmation of BP

    Hello Experts,
    i'm currently working on a requirement to direct a user to the Interaction record creation view automatically after confirmation of an account and installed base. Consequently i have maintained  following customizing setting within our account identification profile:
    Account Navigation:
    Object type = BT126_INR, UI Action = D
    I have tested the following scenario's:
    1. In case when i confirm an account AND installed then automatically the Interaction Record create view is being displayed --> OK.
    2. In case when i confirm an account which is not linked to an Installedbase then nothing happens. --> NOT OK
    3. In case when i confirm an installed base and the related account afterwards then nothing happens --> NOT OK
    Can you explain why in situation 2 & 3 i'm not directed to the Interaction Record create view?
    Regards, Sander

    Hello, Sander.
    First of all identify which view and component you use while confirming partner (e.g. which view/component Confirm button belongs to).
    In general it should be ICCMP_BP_DETAIL component and one of its views: BuPaDetail, BuPaDetailB2B or BuPaMixDetailB2B.
    For instance, let's take a look into BuPaDetail (for other views procceed in the same way).
    In its event handler EH_ONCONFIRM there is such code at the very end:
    * process further steps
    CALL METHOD me->process_after_confirm
       EXPORTING
         ir_bupa_controller = lr_cucobupa.
    ENDMETHOD.
    Let's go futher and step into this method process_after_confirm. Here the check is started.
    * navigate only if ibase has been confirmed or if ibase is not selected in customizing
    lr_objcomp_cust = ir_bupa_controller->get_objcomp_cust_instance( ).
    CHECK lr_objcomp_cust IS BOUND.
    lt_bpcodeta = lr_objcomp_cust->get_bpcodeta( ).
    IF lr_objcomp_cust->objcomp_defined( ) EQ abap_false.
       lv_navigate = abap_true.
    ELSEIF  ir_bupa_controller->is_product_confirmed( ) EQ abap_true.
       lv_navigate = abap_true.
    ELSE.
       READ TABLE lt_bpcodeta WITH KEY auto_search = abap_true ASSIGNING <fs_bpcodeta>.
       IF sy-subrc <> 0.
    *      auto search is not set for any component
         lv_navigate = abap_true.
       ELSE.
         IF <fs_bpcodeta>-search_approach IS INITIAL.
           lv_navigate = abap_true.
         ENDIF.
       ENDIF.
    ENDIF.
    And after that the system creates objects for navigation. In the above code they check settings made in SPRO -> CRM -> Interaction Center WebClient -> Master Data -> Define Account Identification Profile.
    Hope this will help you.

  • ITunes is wasting my recording discs

    I attempted to write a few songs on to a disc (18 songs, 67.1 mb) onto a disc that has enough space (Don't worry I checked already, I have also used these discs in the past and they worked). I hit burn disc normally and it says my disc is recording, I wait until the time is up and it says 'Burning disc, finishing' then makes the completion sound... but the disc has no music on it, it has the iTunes crap on it and now it is worthless because it's not re-writible. So I forgot I had a downloaded song from the internet on there, so I deleted it off my hard-drive and off iTunes. Then it gives me a message when I hit burn disc again. "You may only copy songs onto a CD that you have purchased from the iTunes store" (Something to that effect), but I was only downloading purchased songs and I didn't have that internet song any longer. THough I still hit proceed (With a new disc). It went through all the way and made the noise. It still does not work and there goes another CD. What is going on? Why is iTunes making me waste money on these discs if it's only going to make it un-usable? Can someone help before I go through all these CD's on the incompentence of iTunes designers.

    According to WMP this disc is not blank but iTunes is apparently burning songs onto it. (It is not burning anything to it, it says that it is but it is just putting iTunes information on it.) The disc is obviously not blank but it continues to burn things on it. This is the third blank disc I used and when it was blank, it said it was burning the songs on and it wasn't so it isn't any of my discs because I have used these in the past and now all of a sudden they don't work.
