Direct X plugs come up as "unsupported"
Hey everyone-
For some reason, my Sony direct x plugins are showing up as unsupported on my work computer, but at home, they shows up fine. I'm running AA 1.5, and I've refreshed the fx list multiple times. I even tried recreating the preferences folder, but to no avail. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Don't know absolutely, but...
If you are running a W7 machine at work, you will almost certainly have run into permissions problems with DX. Apparently the thing you are supposed to do with most of them is to log in as administrator, right-click on the installer and select the 'run as administrator' option. If you don't do this the permissions don't get registered properly. If you ever see a message saying "Failed to set data for Name", this is what's caused it.

I have a fujifilm X100, at first there were no issues viewing my RAW photos but now all of a sudden the pictures come up as "unsupported image format". How do I fix this?
No, I did not do any updates between the time that the files were viewable and when they were not. I was actually without an internet connection for a few days when the problem started. I reported the bug to apple and have since been contacted by them asking for a few sample images so they can figure out the problem, so I'm hoping they come up with an answer for me.

Cannot launch Lightroom 3.3 from direct Camera plug in via USB
I would like to have Lightroom 3.3 launch automatically when I plug my camera in via usb. When I plug it in, I currently get the option to automatically launch PS elements, Canon photo programs, Picasa, Windows defaults, etc. For some reason, Lightroom does not appear as an option however. When I plug an SD card in, I do get this option for automatically launching Lightroom. Why won't it give me the option direct from my camera? How can I set this up myself? I have already tried going in using Windows setting defaults but this program does not appear as an option there either.
Thank you. I am using W7 64bit.bump

Direction Mixer plug-in strangeness
If you insert the direction mixer into a stereo channel and reduce the stereo spread to mono the pan control becomes ineffective.
This means there is no way to mono and position a stereo source without using 2 seperate adjacent mono channels (then the automation has to be done seperately).
I understand how the direction control positions a stereo source but must admit I'm lost as to why as the source is progressively narrowed using the width control the pan control becomes less and less effective until it has no effect whatsoever! Is this correct?
JulianDirection mixer pan doesn't really work like that, even when the track is in stereo. It's more of a left-right "swap" than a pan, I find it useful occassionally when a stereo sound is naturally panned to one side and I'd rather have it panned to the right.
So if you set the width to "0" (mono) the circular pan knob will be swapping identical signals so no change will happen.
Once you have the width of the sound set to how much you want it to be in the directional mixer, simply use the pan located above the volume fader for that track. I do it all the time, works like a charm! -
When did a Powerpoint Plug come with an iPod mini?
Well, I updated my iPod and now it's saying to plug it into a Powerpoint but I don't have the thing to. Is there any other way I can fix it?
Jasminrachel,
When updating the first generation mini via a usb connection, you need to plug into the a/c adapter to complete the process. There is no way around this, and you're stuck until you do.
The first generation minis were supplied with a power adapter as standard.
The newer second generation minis do not require this step when updating the software, and the power adapter is not supplied with these minis, it's an optional extra. -
Since upgrading Firefox, it doesn't respond when I click on print and/or print preview while displaying web pages.. No error message, just no response. I tried using both my printers..a HP and a Canon and get no results with either. I have no problem printing from any other place (including "Print" instructions within web pages, usually). I have recently upgraded my desktop (Dell Vostro 220) to Windows 7 and it went smoothly. The Firefox upgrade came at about the same time, so I don't know if Windows 7 is part of the problem. I need be able to print from the screen of web pages!
Hi jjoyceeric,
Have you looked at the Knowledge Base article [[Firefox prints incorrectly]]? There is some good troubleshooting information in there. I would suggest that you try resetting your print settings.
Hopefully this helps! -
I recently purchase an Ipod shuffle. following the directions \, I plugged the small cord into the ipod and into the usb plug on my MAC. The instructions said that the Itunes screen would appear...but nothing happened. Am I missing something?
When you installed iTunes on your work computer, then connected your iPad to that computer, it wiped what was on the iPad, then put the iTunes library (nothing) from the work computer onto the iPad. You can try copying the iTunes folder from your home computer over to your work computer, but since the apps were bought with a different account, they may not load or update properly.

Nokia offers FREE plug-ins for some devices not supported by iSync 2.4
Nokia is now offering free plug-ins for otherwise unsupported Nokia mobile handsets in Mac OS X 10.4.9 and iSync 2.4 configurations. All support both Bluetooth and USB synchronization, and work only with Mac OS X 10.4.9 and iSync 2.4, bundled with it. The plug-ins listed below can be downloaded from Nokia here:
http://www.nokia.com/A4299040
Supported models include the…
• E50
• E60
• E61i
• E65
• E70
• N76
• N93i
• N95That's a good point, and I should have taken the time to point that out.
It's not particularly important that Nokia has chosen to offer free plug-ins for a limited number of their mobile handsets not presently supported by iSync. The really important thing here is that a manufacturer has actually chosen to support the technology at all!
I do support a vibrant developer community, and think that Nova Media and others who have taken the time to create plug-ins and, who continue to support them, deserve to be compensated for their efforts. It worth noting that Nova Media was out front with support for Nokia mobile handsets about a year before Nokia itself chose to offer support. And, as Jan points out, they continue to support units that Nokia itself does not. -
I have a Droid Razr but I need some assistance. The phone has the Kindle App which I have no problem with so long as the book was directly from Amazon. The problem I have is that I get most of my books from other book sites and would love to be able to read read them on my phone. When I email the book to myself to download it to the phone, the attached book has the message "Unsupported file type" and I am not able to download the book at all.
Does anyone have any information about this and how I can get MOBI books loaded onto the phone? I have convertrd the format to PDF in Calibre and can download those and then I put them into the Kindle folder. I can then open them using the Kindle App. But in the Kindle app you don't have any of the options you would have if the book were bought from Amazon.
Does anyone else have this problem or know of a way around this? Thanks much for any adviceI just think it's odd that if I get an email with a book attached, the
attachment shows Unsupported file type. And then you can't do a thing with it.
You don't even get an option of any kind. I think at this point I am going
to forget even trying to use Kindle on the phone. I don't want to have to
go to all the hassle of connecting it to the PC. The only time I would want
to use it on the phone would be if I was traveling and received a book, it
would be great to just be able to download it to the phone.

Unsupported image format with 3:2 or 16:9 aspect for Leica Digilux 3
I can import RAW files just fine with my Leica Digilux 3 dslr, but when I import RAW images using 3:2 or 16:9 aspect formats, aperture comes up with unsupported image format. appreciate any feedback.
as an fyi, it does it on a macbook pro and an imacAllen,
there have been several threads with similar problems of broken references to raw images; in some cases even with managed raw images, that cannot be reconnected, for example:
Raw images all blank
One more reason to avoid managed libraries.
The "lsregister" command must exist on your machine. It may move around a bit, because there are many links in the path to current versions.
After the last update I found this direct path (MacOS X 10.8.2):
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Support/lsregister -R /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library
To search the "lsregister" command in your system, try to open the "/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework" in the Finder and to navigate from there:
Typing "open /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework" into the Terminal will open a Finder window in the directory (as you probably will know )
Added: If newly imported raws are recognized without problems it is unlikely to be a problem of missing raw conversion registration. I am just concerned about the error message you get.

Request: PDF Viewer plug-in for Firefox
So, just what is wrong with Adobe? Shouldn't this be a no-brainer?
EEE! All right! Good-bye Adobe! I found a very good working option -- no plug in required!:
http://www.docufarm.com/ (Can't find it through mozilla, but I did a virus scan before I downloaded it, and it was clean (you should always do that)). An explanation as to how it works is located at
http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2007/05/preview-documents-with-docufarm.html
Three problems with the PDF Browser Plug-In:
(1) Limited features -- cannot search within the document
You can direct the plug-in to use Adobe (or other viewer) to open, but then the document is downloaded which belays the whole point of having the plug-in...
(2) Scrolling issues (minor, I could live with it, but it is annoying): using the scrollbar tends to break the display and you have to reload the document
(3) PDF Browser Plug-In does not work directly with Mac Intel (must run Rosetta) -- this is an issue since I'm about to upgrade my powerbook...
I agree it likely comes from higher than the poor programmers. Either Mac/FF users simply aren't a large enough group to get priority (I was kinda hoping this thread would prove that wrong), or the directive came from Apple (not Adobe) -- they've been stupid about the competition thing before... ...but if feature requests aren't read by anyone at Adobe what's the point of having a feature request forum? -
Can't download via the direct link for IE (HTTP 403 Forbidden)
Win7 Pro SP1 32-bit
IE 10.0.9200.16635
When I try to download/install from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ I get the "cannot contact reliable source", so I then tried the Direct link for ActiveX/IE:
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player_ax.exe
and I get a HTTP 403 Forbidden. I have also tried that link in Firefox and Opera, but all I get is an empty page. I've also tried with antivirus off, firewall off etc... no luck.
BUT... If I try the second direct link(Plug-in/All other browsers)
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player.exe
it works in both IE, Firefox and Opera.
Then I started up an old XP PC just to compare, and the download ActiveX version were succesful.
Why doesn't the direct link for ActiveX work on my Win7 PC, regardless what browser I use?
(I have never had any problems with updating/installing Flash Player before, on any computer including my Win7)Maybe I was unclear: The "Direct Links" I referred to, ARE the offline installer links.
The link Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer) doesn't work(forbidden access),
but the link Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers) works.
BTW, is there perhaps any other URL to a offline installer, besides the one that doesn't work on my PC?

Unable to ground magsafe with the short UK plug
My magsafe can't properly ground/earth itself when using the direct UK plug (Figure 1), however able when using the extended UK plug cable (i.e. no electric shock) (Figure 2).
I already tried using another magsafe; same outcome.
Can anyone explain to me what's going on here? Thanks
Figure 1. Direct UK wall plug
Figure 2. Extended cable UK plugAh, I recall some other UK posters mentioning that the use of an extension cord on your power outlets removes the shock/grounding indicated issue you are mentioning that the short plug does not.
Oddly there was just such a mention from a UK poster on another board just a couple hours ago.
here it is:

Ive had some electrical theory, but best I can recall (if correct) the longer extension grounds or dissipates as ground in some manner. -
Hello,
Recently i have bought an MSI z97 Gaming 7, i connected the "Direct Audio Power cable" into the motherboard, went to the motherboard and checked "Board Explorer" but the Direct Audio Power doesn't light up, so i'm wondering how can i check if "Direct Audio Power" is working or not?.
Thanks in advance.Quote from: shonjord on 10-October-14, 00:41:01
Hi, thanks for the quick reply
Yes, i did switch to the left side for Direct Power, the thing is when i go to the Bios and check "Board Explorer" the Direct Power plug doesn't light up, and i was wondering if that means that i'm doing something wrong, i have sound yes, so it means that everything is ok?. it doesn't matter if on "Board Explorer" the direct audio power doesn't light?.
Yeah I think as long as you have sound in windows, then it means the board is receiving power from the PSU.
I'm using X99S Gaming 9 and I have the same thing too.
Update: You know what. I checked my BIOS just now and under "Board Explorer" I did see the audio power lights up red. So that means mine is receiving direct power from PSU.
I don't know why urs does not light up. Maybe ur connection is loose or something. Try re-plugging the power connection again (make sure you use the power adapter cable that comes with the mobo), then re-move the switch from right to left again, then turn on the mobo and check Board Explorer again. -
Write among COM ports in the same PC without cables
How can I write to the memory address(es) of a serial COM port? I would like to send data from one serial COM port to another in a manner similar to the that of the 'Simple Data Client' and 'Simple Data Server' vi examples. This must sound strange since this is exactly what a null modem cable will do, externally. I would like to eliminate the cable connection between COM ports that exsit in the same PC and communicate between them, internal to the PC, somehow.
Currently, I am using a LabVIEW vi to read a serial message on COM1, translate it, send the trsanslation out on COM2, so that a separate windows program (no .DLLs to interface with LabVIEW) can read the message on COM 3. COM 2 and COM 3 are connected by a null-modem cable. This requires three COM ports, and two serial cables. I realize that I can use a physical loop-back jumper on COM2, for instance, where I send and read the translated message on COM2, but I still wonder if there is a method for doing this in memory, or something. Is there a way to accomplish the same objective with one cable (into COM1), no loop-back jumpers, and only two serial ports? In summary, I want to read on COM 1, translate in LabVIEW, then write directly to another COM port, internally, without using a serial cable. Can the 'IN PORT' or 'OUT PORT' vi's apply here? Are these tools only for parallel ports?
Hope this is not too confusing.... It seems like I am always trying to do something with LabVIEW that was not meant to be done....
Thanks.Thank you. If I pay the price they ask, this looks like it will create and share virtual COM ports - exactly what I need. However, I would really like to find a way to do this in LabVIEW, such that I do not have to make my application dependent on another piece of third party software. The 'Simple Data Client.vi' and 'Simple Data Server.vi', included in the shipset examples, seem to do this for TCP/ IP ports. I wonder why the COM ports cannot be addressed at the memory level, in a similar manner???
